The hem of a ragged cloak sweeps across the frozen ground, fabric cracked and stiff with frost. Each step blooms a fresh layer of ice, splintering out in jagged shards beneath the heel of a leather boot. The already chilled air cools rapidly in his presence; any moisture freezes in an instant, shatters upon impact with the ground. Eyes like chips of ice lift to the frozen throne before him - a seat of power and judgement.

He settles into place as though reclining upon the softest of couches, unbothered by the contact of ice and skin. For one who lives in such a frozen wasteland, his attire seems more suited to a life beneath the sun: naked to the waist - save for the fur cloak at his shoulders - and a skirt of ragged cloth that barely meets his knees. The skin on display is rippled with scars and pale fingers of frost, pulled taut across firm muscles that promise a fearsome strength.

Such is it that the god of death poses a formidable sight to those who enter his throne room.

The figure that enters is cloaked and hooded, yet the lord of the underworld knows who comes before him. They have not yet spoken a word to one another, but he knows the song of his soul - with but one shared glance, he knows him. Even before slender hands draw back the hood, Wriothesley knows the face that is revealed.

Though his own face betrays nothing, his traitorous heart quickens in his chest. Those brilliant eyes, soft and warm and full of light and life, spark something in him that he has not felt for centuries, if ever at all.

A rustle of movement behind the throne signals the arrival of his most trusted companion: the lumbering canine form steps into the cold light, sits dutifully beside his master's throne. Three pairs of frosty eyes regard this visitor with quiet interest; three tails lay still and content. The mere presence of the underworld's famed guard dog is often enough to instil fear, but Wriothesley senses none in the delicate deity who almost shyly meets his gaze.

"There aren't many who wander so boldly into my domain." His voice is as cool as his kingdom, deep like the rumble of some great beast. "What brings you to my halls, little flower?"

The enigmatic smile that lingers upon her lips says otherwise, that perhaps her words did not answer the question that was asked, but instead gave the answer that was sought beneath it all. Had they not been working in tandem long enough to know that sometimes what is being said is not what is meant? That the riddle is not within the direct but the covert?

She leans back in her chair, quite at ease within current company, letting arms fold across her chest as she tips her head, studying the woman opposite her with a keen gaze. That which she sees settles her thoughts, though explain it she does not. Instead she hums and turns her gaze upon the documents upon her desk, nothing so interesting but the latest reports generated for all of the Qixing, nothing of any higher importance would be allowed such a public setting, instead locked within the safety of the Jade Chamber.

"Yet should you ask it again, my answer would remain the same... quite the interesting conundrum, is it not?"

I'm aware of my statement in my guidelines that in many instances the fandom doesn't represent me, hence my decision to not want to be affiliated with it. However, given the (once again) uprising of a fanon theory concerning time loops and samsaras, I want to be firm about something: I don't subscribe to this. I didn't when it was big during Sumeru, even less I do now. I'll keep the thoughts to myself as to why I don't trust it. Do you believe it and want to apply it to your portrayal? Cool, I respect you. But know that I won't take part in it.

1) i dropped my g.enshin f/os from my list, sadly. i have a lot of negative associations with the source now that leave a bad taste in my mouth, even though the characters themselves are still big comfort characters for me.

2) originally my wedding with z.app was going to be on the 8th, this coming tuesday but i’m gonna push it back a little. maybe to next year but it for sure is not going to be anytime soon. i’ll make another post with the new wedding date once i figure it out ;0; orz bad brain worms have been getting to me and there’s also a lot of drama here recently. ough.

The question is met, initially, with an easy laugh - it is a sound filled with warmth. There's a softness to an emerald gaze as he looks upon her, an undeniable fondness in his expression. He has always worn his heart upon his sleeve, but it is even more present around her.

"Well, that's sort of what I do..." He grins, a little hint of mischief in the curve of his lips. "I know things."

He reaches out, perhaps in a bold move - and sweeps back a lock of her hair. The mischief in his smile dissolves instead into something much more gentle. "But... I'd like to think I know you pretty well. Maybe I see things others don't."

[ META ] Ning + Yelan (my curiosity is killing me for your insight on this dynamic)

If Ningguang is Liyue's sun, the visible guide to light the path, then Yelan is it's moon to offer solace from the shadows. If Ningguang is the Queen, then Yelan is her right-hand, the one who can do that which Ningguang cannot. If Ningguang is the velvet glove concealing an iron fist, then Yelan is the pretty smile hiding a poison dagger. They are both necessary to keep Liyue running as it does. Together they could topple empires, should they choose it.

"She's a very interesting character. I can say with the utmost confidence that she is someone I trust unreservedly. She handles herself impeccably, which means she stays beyond reproach. Hehe, since you both have high intelligence in common, hopefully you will get along very well."

The thing that stands out to me here is the unreserved trust that Ningguang has in Yelan. That does not come easily. She's a cautious woman and calculated, such trust would not be given to someone who had not earnt it threefold, nor someone who might break it willingly. It tells me that these two have a bond forged in something far more than chance or over dinner. It's something that has grown and woven over time, that it has been proved in easy times and hard times, in light conversation and times of duress. Yelan's voicelines only confirm this further and I think this is the heart of their dynamic.

Ningguang does not need to know every action Yelan makes, because she trusts her to do it according to the plan set forth. To keep guiding Liyue forward. She trusts that the relevant information will find its way to her desk and the methods with which it was obtained will remain on a need to know basis.

"No one is trying to poison you. Don't be so dramatic." The sigh that leaves his lips can only be described as affectionately exasperated; exactly the kind of sigh you'd expect from a long-suffering older sibling.

How easily he has fallen back into that role, he muses.

"I've already explained it to you. Meals are assigned at random. You simply had poor luck this time." The worst luck, actually, given what lies within the box - the most basic of the welfare meals. Hardly anything to get enthused over, even if it is better than nothing. "I hope you don't expect special treatment, Bao-... Tristan."

Causing a stir is something she is very adept at.

She flashes a grin at the man sat across from her, raises the cup in her hand in a mock toast. She's settled quite comfortably in his office, enjoying the soft lilt of music in the background. Upon first meeting the Duke, she would never have pegged him as someone with an ear for music, nor the type to enjoy tea parties.

Appearances, she knows very well, are not everything.

"Ah, that's nothing." She takes a sip - it's good, the tea, though if it had been down to her they'd definitely be enjoying something with a little more kick. "I get the impression anything new causes a stir around here."

The crew have certainly taken to the spotlight nicely. It's nice for them to let off some steam, so she's not in any hurry to conduct their business. They've all earned an extended break, particularly in such a beautiful place. "And you of all people should know a thing or two about causing a stir." She eyes him over the rim of the cup. "That was an impressive ship."

He catches it in the corner of his eye - first, the movement, then: the shimmer.

The surprise of it catches him off guard. He forgets to be cautious, to be wary of this stranger who has approached so silently. He can focus on nothing but the soft sheen upon the man's skin, the glittering particles that dance back and forth. It's painfully familiar - were he to look down at his own hands, remove the gloves he now wears day and night, he would see it upon his own skin. There is no mistaking what it is.

The Primordial Sea.

Now the curiosity takes over - who is this man? How was it that he came to be touched by the Sea? He does not look Fontanian, but who is he to tell? He hasn't lived here for four hundred years.

"Can I help you?" He remembers then, to be cautious. His hand shifts, angles towards the sword he carries at his hip. There are traces of elemental energy about this person: a Vision user, he assumes, based on his experiences.

As he studies him, he recalls the story told to him of recent events, and he slowly pieces it together. What was the name of that prisoner, the Fatui? The one who escaped, who fought the beast-
