HTB AU Mark Heathcliff design

(Ages 19-21, from 1993-1995! These sketches are from my sketchbook/notepad of ideas for the Hail True Body AU.)

Damn, so, a rundown of my handwriting because I know it looks bad lmao

Face: - Harsher facial lines, stronger jaw and cheeks (he's older, so has lost that last bit of youthful curve on his face). - Scars from the shattered window are prominent (they're quite an angry pink colour from how deep the cuts were and how recent the injuries occurred). - Grown his hair out into a messy mullet. He usually ties it back in a tail when working or studying. - Clean shaven, doesn't like how his facial hair grows in pretty patchy (especially around the scar on his cheek) so he tries to avoid that. - Still bites/chews at his lips (and hands), though Thatcher does his best to make Mark stop whenever he's around to catch him doing it.

Clothing: - Now wears his crucifix visibly over his hoodie (it was a Confirmation gift from his mum when he was 9). - Still wears the same denim jacket (Thatcher was able to help him salvage it post chapter 6 of INWCT, but they couldn't get the bloodstain out of his old hoodie). - A new grey hoodie, same style and brand as the old one. - Wears a green plaid button up shirt and a black tee underneath. - Black denim jeans that fit more closely but are still comfortably loose. - Same old red Chuck Taylors, but now they're pretty ratty, beat up and old. - Still conceal carries his pistol in his rear waistband, but keeps the rest of his work kit in a rucksack in the trunk of his car. - Hands/fingers are still almost-always taped up with band-aids and dressings. Most of the skin is scarred or discoloured by his biting and picking.

New Jacket Patch (left bicep): - A winged lion on a red background, embroidered in black, silver and gold (the same colours as the Holy Gospel). The winged lion is also a symbol of the Evangelist.

Wallet: - Always kept in the left chest pocket of his jacket. - Contains the spare key to Cesar's house that Cesar had cut for him (Mark also has a spare key to Thatcher's place, but that one is kept on his keys because he actually uses it every other day). - Also contains a polaroid of Mark and Cesar taken by Cesar in 1991. It is badly creased from being taken in and out of the wallet frequently, and being held tightly in desperate hands.

So yeah, when Mark turns back up again in HTB, he'll look like this!

January 18, 2024. Sandhill Crane Flyby!!

I live at the VERY edge of a Sandhill Crane migration route, and I saw a flock of at least 40 flying southwest today at 3:52PM! I haven't seen any in a couple years, and this is the biggest group I've spotted. Usually I catch them with their strung-together rattle calls, but these guys were pretty quiet (just a couple brief rattles today, which was thankfully still enough to make me look up through the trees!). Allegedly it was 28ºF today but felt like 21°F--I hope they were staying warm up there. Safe travels, friends!!
