It's ok to like fictional villains. While we’d probably recoil from such individuals in the flesh, fiction allows us to enjoy and even feel the allure of villains. This comes down to works of fiction acting like a safety net that allows us to identify with the characters and analyze the similarities between us without damaging our own self-image. Such exploration allows us to engage with the dark aspects of your personality without making you question whether you are a good person in general.Fiction is about conflict, drama and mistakes and the reasons and consequences behind human behavior. People make the mistake of conflating enjoying art with agreeing with what it depicts and that’s just not how consuming media works. I like hurt/comfort fanfic, but that doesn’t mean I want to see my partner beaten up. I really enjoy Hannibal, but that doesn’t mean I approve of cannibalism. What we read, watch, write or ship doesn’t reflect our character. If that were true, Stephen King and George R. R. Martin should both be in prison, and every fan of Die Hard would be on a watchlist. We enjoy stories because they take us outside of ourselves, into adventures we could never have and into the minds of people we could never be. That’s art. And while it’s always important to be critical and thoughtful about how and why we enjoy something, that should never keep you from liking what you like. And it certainly doesn’t make you a bad person.
If this is about the tags on that one billy post, pls actually read what i was saying
I like Vecna as a villain, I like Angela as (im hesitant to call her this) a villain. I even like Billy as a villain 😲😲
You know who I don't like defending and babying? Billy !!
Billy was a racist abuser, plain and simple, and I hate that people are constantly defending him. Yeah he could've changed eventually, but that doesn't mean I want to watch thousands of people flock to defend him and his actions by calling him a repressed gay.
I am allowed to hate racist characters, I am allowed to hate racist people, because as a woman of colour they are literally out for my blood.
like, dont forget about how Caleb literally watched people fucking worship Billy for YEARS before he was finally comfortable enough to call Billy racist, the fandom can't find any empathy for Max or Lucas and that's a huge problem.
there's so much more to say abt this but u completely missed the initial point i was making about this fandoms tendency to idolize bad people just because they're white.

hi! ive been seeing ur posts around a bit and just wanted to ask you a question which honestly isnt related to the show plot because even though i do ship byler i believe mileven is gonna be cannon because a suger mega mainstream show isnt likely to throw away their main ship for an unexpected gay ship which imo would make sense with all the queercoding and would just be sumn new but yknow its unlikely. so my wish for s5 is some serious and good growth for mileven as a couple but back to my question as i mentioned earlier there is quite a bit of queercoding and ig what u could call 'proof' and while i agree some of the byler proof thrown around are stretches and reaches most of it seems pretty plausible which does mean there is a chance that the people working on that show purposely put in those aspects and parallels but for what? (possible queerbait which ick!) and another thing with will and his love arc it seems kinda unfair ik its the 80s and in reality it wouldve matched wills situation but in the end it is a super popular fiction show in 2020s and it does have the liberty to provide some sort of solace to will like everyone else in the show gets some kind of romance but the tortured gay guy should be happy with the acceptance? kinda ouch and on topic of queer characters i personally think robin has one of the most beautiful coming out scenes in tv history but with vickie they did bad to her character like they have barely 5 mins of screen time tgther and theyre basically the same person w the brain and mouth parallel so impo the writers and show producers have sort of messed up with the queer characters(s5 could redeem everything but i have a feeling it rlly wont) plus i mean making will love mike was such a choice like he couldve like anyone else the show has time and time again had clear chances to just either not make will have a thing for mike or get him to confess and or move on and introduce a new guy for him and have a chance of a happy ending but they had to employ the overused gay guy loves his straight best friend trope and drag onto the last season where theres already the battle to the death going on so even if they do get a new guy there will be no satisfying development to their bond. and then practically use his feelings to encourage mike which is just cruel and is kinda harmful for many queer people like i remember just sobbing in my grandmas living room because how horrible that scene made me feel so i just want ur opnions on this as u seem like some1 passionate about the show and an ally. (sorry if its kinda long this my first time ever interacting w anyone on tumblr im rlly unsure how to go about these things)
Yeah, definitely, I think I understand what you mean. Queerbaiting sucks, but I don't personally think that's what this show is doing. I think a lot of the hints people are claiming as Byler evidence is just based on their interpretation, and not what the creators intended it to be seen as. We honestly can't know what they intended without them confirming it, so it's hard to know one way or the other. I don't believe a lot of the evidence for Byler personally, and it just doesn't make sense narratively for the show like you mentioned. I don't know, it's complicated. If anyone else wants to share their thoughts on this, feel free to leave them in the comments. :)

Ok so I actually don't know if it was plural bc I can't find you anymore in my notifs (tiktok is weird as u know), but i do know you liked at least one video and one of my comments so I'll take it as we're bffs 😌 (also do you get hate at all? I love making silly vids but im also kinda new to tiktok and a little terrified)
HAHA omg !! And yeah TikTok can be finicky, especially as everyone has their own customizable settings on who can view what. I think that might be why the app is kinda wonky sometimes.
Anyway! About hate, I do get some innocuous ‘byler sucks’ type comments that I ignore, and I’ve gotten a couple rants, but otherwise, you guys are so lovely! I honestly get so many positive comments that they completely drown out the hate and I don’t even see it if it’s there anymore 😭.
Okay and I know this is a mouthful of a post/reply lol but I think it’s kinda important.
Some word of advice if you wish to be a regular content creator on TikTok: try and keep your content in the space of people who want it; for example, I like to add a bunch of different byler tags (like beyond #byler I also add #bylerisendgame, #bylerrights, etc.) so that I hopefully only reach fellow bylers. Pair this with a #fyp, and you will probably attract viewers who like byler (or whatever else you want to post about) through their for you page. And if you do receive hate, I believe that if someone watches your content, that was their decision. Sure, your video may have showed up on their fyp, but there’s an easy way to change the content you view and consume by using the “not interested” feature. The feature isn’t perfect, but it’s helpful, for sure. I know that some healthy education on the feature can be of good use to people who may not know about it, but for the most part, I expect people to just scroll if they don’t like what I say. I think that I’m responsible for what I write/say in my videos and what I tag, and anyone who watches my stuff is responsible for their consumption of it. So unless people are calling you out on something worth discussing, I think it’s best to just not engage with hate. Especially if it’s as unfounded and simple as “I hate x thing” or “I hate you” without any explanation. I’ve also noticed that my more viewed videos have more hate, which I think is a general truth of anything. The more popular something is, the more people know about it, the higher the chances that there are gonna be people who don’t like it. So yes! I receive some hate, but I choose to respond according to the situation.
Sorry the educator in me came out 😂
