My actual question this time is about Manner of Death and if there is anything about the show that you picked up on, such as its colours or cinematography.

I love you tagging me, asking me questions, and sharing your delight about random tidbits! It's not spam; it's my love language.

Don't ever apologize to me, especially for a MaxTul related question.

You already know I stay on my bullshit, so this is going to be a lengthy response.

Manner of Death? Colors!

I'm going to be honest, when it comes to a MaxTul show, I focus on other elements.

Their shows have so many other distractions.

My brain, watching a MaxTul show, while I'm trying to examine the colors:

But my brain is a powerful weapon, so even when I'm drowning in MaxTul's chemistry, I still notice the other aspects I love:

Colors

Bun and Tan are color-colored boys in love. The poster tells us.

Dr. Bun is a Blue Boy (stable, sincere, intelligent).

Tan is a Black Brooder (protective, mysterious, arrogant).

Then, we have the mini Bun and Tan - Sorn and That. Sorn is a Blue Boy and That is a Black Brooder. Even their bikes matched their colors.

Tan and Bun did wear other colors (dark greens, browns and some reddish browns as neutrals), but stuck well to their colors (pictures throughout). Even in the cameo on Triage, they were color-coded.

When Bun moved into Tan's house, Tan quickly picked up Bun's blue.

And they switched them often.

Tan sent his Black Brooder mini, That, to protect Bun. We see That had already fallen for Sorn from his blue clothing choice. That wore blue a lot after Sorn helped him.

When Tan proposed to Bun, he wore blue while his kidnapping squad wore black (picture is later), and in the end, they were both together in white (marriage!).

Barriers

Lighting was used often for showing secrets (darkness) and honesty (light), and barriers were also used in a similar way.

When Bun kissed Tan in the club, he was drunk; however, BOTH of them remembered the kiss and the light spotlighting them in a dark space showcases that. Between Us did something similar with Win and Team during their first kiss and continued it throughout the show.

While subtly discussing the kiss, a barrier formed between them because both were talking around the kiss rather than directly stating they remembered it. However, Tan was tip-toeing the line and continued to get closer to Bun with each statement he made.

After that, the barriers between them always popped up when Bun was suspicious of Tan (notice the blues and blacks):

BUT (and this is what I find interesting about the two directors), the camera moves often in this show. Instead of staying still during a shot, the camera slowly moved (panned), so the barriers between them dissolved. Normally, if a camera moves (pans), barriers EMERGE not disappear.

This happened with That and Sorn as well. (I wish I had time for GIFs!)

But Manner of Death showed that although Tan and That were being secretive, it was not a barrier. Even when the barriers didn't disappear (into the Blue Boy), the Blue Boy crossed it or forced the other to cross it. Bun and Sorn truly trusted their mysterious mafia boyfriends even when they didn't have a good reason to! That's the loyalty of a Blue Boy boyfriend.

Each time Bun tried to learn a little more about Tan, they had a tree (life) cut between them.

But in the end, they joined together (Tan in blue and Bun in gray) in front of a tree to commit their lives to each other.

Although the barriers between the boys disappeared or they crossed them, the places the camera stayed still and the barriers stuck were telling to the plot.

If Rung was there, so was a barrier. When she spoke to her sister, there was usually a barrier. Also, when Inspector M told Bun he was dropping the case, a static barrier appeared.

Random

Tan is shown several times in the first episodes (before the reveal of who his family is and why they treat him the way they do) looking up to a person or at the bottom of stairs while the the other person is higher.

Bun had to borrow clothes from Dr. Oat, and the shirt he had to wear says "Single, Please Flirt" which is why all the women were smiling at him and giving him their numbers.

I could write all day about this show, but I have a picture limit, so know that cinematographer Kuea Napon Tippanya earned that paycheck. Also note that Kuea will be the cinematographer for the upcoming Tonnam and Title series Wish You Luck.

Wish You Luck's teaser had several outdoor shots, so if you liked the outdoor and exterior shots in Manner of Death, which I personally thought were well done, I think Kuea will do the beauty of Thailand justice. Kuea's other shows also focused heavily on the environment being incorporated into the narrative, so I'm tuning in to Wish You Luck not just for the leads, but for the cinematography and the landscapes.

And because I can never not ask these questions - WHERE ARE MY MURDER MYSTERY HUSBANDS?! WHERE IS TRANSPLANT? WHEN WILL I SEE THEM AGAIN?!

RANDOM THOUGHTS: Manner of Death ep. 14 (rewatch)

(These are my random thoughts from my rewatch on the 31st of March - 1st of April 2024)

Since my rewatches may contain spoilers, I’m putting my random thoughts after the “Read More” link.

I can’t believe this is the last episode. It’s gone by so fast.

Anyway, I’m going into this expecting some assholes to be exposed, some more danger, Inspector M to be okay, many Tan and Bun moments, and a crazy proposal.

See, jealousy really is a cold-hearted bitch.

What is wrong with these characters exposing their secrets and goals to the people who will be the most affected by the repercussions if those secrets come out? I mean, if they didn’t want to kill you before, they definitely do now.

Bun, baby, you don’t have to ask Tan what he wants to be. The answer will always be “Your husband!”

Look at this asshole going for the kid first.

Inspector M is back! Look at him being all hot while fighting Gun (while he’s still injured). And he’s wearing black and blue (my weaknesses). And he’s being salty (my favorite Inspector M flavor). And the way he shoots Gun without even flinching! It’s much more fun to watch him when he isn’t giving me whiplash.

The way That is protecting Sorn! Why are they so fucking adorable?

Bitch, you’ve been fooled. You’ve made your bed, not lie in it. Or, more like, you dug your grave, now lie in it.

I always appreciate a clever tech whizz.

The way Tan and Bun reacted to the tech whizz wondering what Tan was hiding on his computer will never not make me cackle!

This music is giving me Game of Thrones vibes.

Thank every higher power that this tech whizz is smarter than these other two idiots. Yes, Tan and Bun are idiots at times. I still love them, though.

Mass upload that shit and let it spread like wildfire!

I’m so happy that Inspector M was the one who got to arrest the commander.

The realization on the judge’s face when he realized he was fucked was so satisfying to watch. I reveled in every millisecond.

I’m always down for a good revenge. Por getting rid of Rung was sweet.

I’m sure Inspector M and Oat hooked up after Oat helped the inspector. At least they did in my delulu-world. I mean, if we ever get Transplant, they can show us. But, until then, they live happily ever after in my head.

I love that Nam wants to become a doctor. That’s the kind of effect Bun had on her.

Look at That and Sorn being all lovey-dovey. I fucking love them! They should really be wearing helmets when riding that MC, though…

And now the craziest proposal I’ve ever seen. I want to slap Tan for doing this. But I also want to hug him.

And that was the end of Manner of Death. I love this series so much that I’ll come back to it again, and again, and again. And I will always hope for Transplant. So, when are we getting Transplant?

I read part 2 of the Manner of Death manga, which wasn't as good as part 1 – and I don't think I'm only saying so because I'm biased in favour of the TV show, though of course that's a factor as well!

Spoilers and pics below!

The pacing is pretty weird. They solve 95% of the murder and then grind to a halt while dealing with Bun's personal life.

There's a lot of stuff with Bun's brother Boonlert, which I assume sounds less like a PG Wodehouse character's name in Thai!

He also has a wife and child:

Tan is off dealing with his sick mother, who eventually dies, and then we get a lot of romantic scenes, which I suppose is what a lot of the readers are there for, but it honestly feels a bit corny. Yes, even in comparison with the melodramatic TV counterparts, shut up!

And all of that is fine, I guess, but then they throw in some romantic complications in the form of doctor Wut, who has a crush on Bun, and Bun's jealous ex-boyfriend Tah, and I just don't care.

Sidenote, That shows up, and he is BLOND!

There's no explicit ThatSorn, but Sorawit does show up again and... uh...

That's... not good. I know the relationship on the show started with That beating Sorn up, but that was a misunderstanding and he was very protective later on. This seems like a red flag!

Anyway, at the end we get literally a couple of pages rounding up the murder plot, after roughly 90 pages where it isn't mentioned at all!

There's no trafficking plot, and no Evil Men in Power, rather the murder is committed because Jane discovered that Rungtiwa and Pued were committing fraud, and they killed her together. So the social commentary of the show doesn't really exist here.

Just as Bun and Tan have once again consummated their love, we get a random murder as a lead-in to a possible sequel:

And then some more love scenes, and that's the end!

Second Season When?

A random post about the second seasons I want.

I hate second seasons, yet I still find myself praying for them and even plotting them out with my ideal scenarios:

*spoilers ahead*

Manner of Death – This was already supposed to happen (Transplant)! When we left off, not all the bad guys were caught and Bun and Tan showed up on Triage where there was an entire missing kidneys plot! Sorn should be in medical school now while That should have more control in the family business. This is coming but the actors are busy (and blessed!), so it is just a matter of rearranging their schedules to give me my murder mystery husbands back! Likelihood – 9/10

Not Me – When we left off, Black hit Todd with a reverse Uno. The second season should focus on the aftermath. We get to learn more about Black since season one was White focused. What happened between Todd and Black while White was away? What happens when Todd wakes up? Will Todd and Black finally realize they are enemies AND lovers? We can also see how Akk Yok is doing with making Dan grovel. Likelihood – 2/10

History 3: Trapped – When we left off, Tang Yi was headed “upstate” but we weren’t told for how long. HE SHOULD BE FREE NOW! The sequel needs to focus on his pseudo-sister getting married, him coming back as the boss and all the discrimination he gets, and him making things work with his no-longer-on-the-force boyfriend. Likelihood – 4/10

KinnPorsche – When we left off, everyone was happy EXCEPT KimChay! People complained that KimChay felt like a different story compared to the others, so lean into it for the second season. Give me a university drama where we see the rich idol chase the once-poor university student. Mix in a bit of danger like Love in the Air is doing (according to the tags since I’m not watching it), and voila! Kinnporsche: KimChay writes itself! Likelihood – 5/10 (for an actual second season, but not THIS second season)

Vice Versa – When we left off, everyone was back in their original universe, but we knew NOTHING about the relationship between Tun and Tess. The second season has to focus on this! I don’t care if it backtracks and shows us how they were doing while in the alternate universe or simply picks up with them back in their universe. I’m not picky! I need to know about them and Fuse/Aou in any way, shape, or form. Likelihood – I’ll tell you next month after the GMMTV event

Love Mechanics – When we left off, the show hinted at all of the upcoming spinoffs in the final episode. We will get Call My Name and Future that focus on Vee’s brother and Mark’s friends, but we don’t know when we will actually get them. I trust Rookie Thailand after it gave me the excellent 21 Days Theory, so I’m keeping the faith that these spinoffs are coming. Likelihood – 8/10

Light on Me – When we left off, the boys were on a beach and happy. It felt complete. It was a solid ending. THEN TaeKyung and ShinWoo made a cameo in Best Mistake 3 looking even more adorable than they did in their series, and we still need to find out who that mystery guest was that visited the teacher. There is a story there, and we deserve it! Likelihood – 5/10 (Maybe To My Star 2 will help Korea see the potential of a sequel)

To My Star – It doesn’t matter where we left off because the third season should focus on Ho Min and his journey becoming an idol. What, you say. Ho Min, Seo Joon’s manager, quit because he wants to become an idol and the best CEO, Pil Hyun, gave him money to train remember? Plus, we had that other kind actor who was working with Seo Joon. He was a rising star. Let’s focus on them! – Likelihood – 0/10

We Best Love – This was supposed to happened! When we left off, Zhe Yu and Bing Wei were engaged, Zhou Shu Yo and Gao Shi De were back together, and the doctor/bar owner was figuring out his relationship with that guy who has been in love with him for forever and day. There was some type of announcement about this, and then it was gone. Maybe I dreamed it. Was it never real? I don’t know. Likelihood – I am crazy?! 0/10

Cutie Pie - When we left off, they were officially engaged...again. An announcement was made about three special episodes. If it's not the wedding, I don't want it. Likelihood - 10/10, but it better be the wedding or nothing at all.
