Why we need people who are Trained In Writing to Write

There is such a difference between writing and writing

SSE's writing is primarily bad because it's written by people who do not write, the reason why Helena's version of the story is so good is because Helena writes. She's an author. She understands narrative, and character, and what goes into a story. From what I can tell most of SSE's writing team. Are legitimately just devs who are put on writing duty for the week. And it shows. None of these people Write.

(And also why you should support people in the profession because it is an incredibly undervalued skill in all forms of media and yes that is to say if you complain about the writers strikes happening in America right now you're fucking dumb)

5 tips to master confidence in an interview:

1. Conquer the art of telling YOUR story

This is first because it's the MOST IMPORTANT.

Study storytelling and practice your stories in the mirror.

Knowing yourself, your experience, and your skills is foundational to strong self-confidence.

2. Deeply study the company and the job

SCOUR the internet to learn everything you can about the company.

- Google

Walking into the interview with all of this knowledge will give your confidence a huge boost.

3. Know how to answer the final question.

Every interview ends the same way...

"Tell me why you're the best candidate for this position"

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION OF THE INTERVIEW

Ultimately, knowing this answer will set you up for success throughout the interview.

4. Ask KILLER questions

At the end of the interview, you'll have time to ask your questions.

They will give you powerful info that will help with second interview and/or follow-ups.

5. Communicate your passions

Managers love candidates who know their passions.

More importantly, knowing your passions will keep you centered on who you are, which will provide you with unshakeable confidence.

If you don't know your passions, you have work to do.

i am so tired from this project if i have to code any more tests i'm going to jump through the window (┬┬﹏┬┬)

i've coded this thing. 5 times already. and my team members keep changing the code (that we need to turn in by friday, mind you) and i keep having to recode the entire thing and change all the docs and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

team development my ass. this is me (and the other guy in charge of testing) staying up every day til 2-3 am to finish tests that will become useless my next morning <3 there's this one component in the app that is driving both of us absolutely nuts because the person who coded just. messed it up SO BAD the sweetest professor in our class called us out over "what the heck is this you need to fix that" and instead of. deleting that and recoding from scratch (like they should've done) they started,, changing little things to make it "better" and now it's even more of a mess.

"oh no, i know a lot about interfaces and android development!" proceeds to make a toolbar from scratch?? instead of working on some sort of singleton to make this actually testable it's different instances per activity that work completely different based on context and ??? do you even know android has a toolbar of its own. with all of this installed. you didn't need to make everything from scratch pls read the docs??

last sprint it was me coding the entire database on my own. and all the dao access. and half of the implementation + quality checks and code fixing. this time is testing and implementation. we have one (1) sprint left and i've put so many more hours than most people i'm just so done.

but it's almost half of the semester's score so i need to make. a good job.

i just want to sleep....

I love your take on Tucker! I think I have a similar one? He feels deeply insecure because well. He's still a teenager and figuring out himself. He will have doubts if his dreams of becoming an entrepreneur will work out. Or what he actually wants to do as an adult. He fears failure.

And compared to Sam and Danny he just feels... average? Danny still wants to become an astronaut and now has superpowers. Even Danny likes some of them because they're cool. Sam doesn't have a concrete idea for her future but she's got convictions and her rich background gives her connections. It's difficult to tell if he feels 'just' insecure or if he fears they'll leave him behind.

So Tucker will often take the path of least resistance as you've said, because of said fear of failure.

It's the contradiction that he hopes that it'll work out and the thing were somebody only does the bare amount of preparation for something, to be able to excuse to themselves that they DID prepare but it still wasn't enough. Making sure they can't be disappointed after actually trying and preparing.

Or in Tucker's case, saying that he'll just try again! Then it'll work out because he's Tucker Foley!

(When internally, he's screaming about his future and self-worth.)

Personally, I like to think of Tucker as a character similar from the ROTTMNT version of Donnie (bc I have turtle brain rot and it is terminal): he's centered his whole identity around a singular but generally useful concept (i.e. technology) and he's very good at it! But the people he likes using his skills for (his friends) in order to impress and help, are developing other skills that he doesn't fully understand and it makes him feel...obsolete.

Donnie and Tucker have very different ways of presenting themselves, but they share that same fundamental insecurity: that for all their brilliance, they're replaceable.

I think this is all I'll say about Tucker for now, because I do have things planned for him in the fic, but yeah. This boy has a paralyzing fear that everything he's poured his heart and soul into will ultimately amount to nothing because what he's found focus and fulfillment in might get outshined by things he can't do :) :) :)

Well I’m burned out as all fuck from work, but the good news is if I keep this up (I can’t but if I COULD) then I could potentially maybe afford that pipe dream of moving to New Zealand.

Of course the OTHER sticking point is that the visa situation is gonna be *rough* because the one I’d actually like is the entrepreneur one, which I absolutely don’t qualify for based on what I currently do. (Many reasons for this tbh)

Although... Hmm I wonder if I could try to put together a business plan for the game studio I’ve been considering... The problem is I don’t think that would be financially feasible *unless* I was also doing freelancing, and I think that would violate the visa. ALTHOUGH. Maybe I could incorporate technical writing *into* the business as a secondary form of income, would have to think a bit about how that would work.... Hmmmm.

Trying to figure out a way to package a (queer) story-driven indie game studio that makes additional income from technical writing... Is that anything lol. TO BE FAIR indie game studios *do* typically rely on pretty diverse revenue streams... Hmm...

#much to think about #queerness is very important for the Vision but idk if that would be a net positive or negative on my application lol #software engineer *and* game developer are surprisingly both on the long term skill shortages list #so i have that going for me - i could *maybe* convince someone to hire me #i'd rather continue working for myself but if i could find a game studio job i'd *definitely* consider it #anyway don't mind me i'm just trying desperately to get out of this country before it implodes #talking tag
