I made a New Year’s resolution to spend less time mindlessly scrolling my phone so figured the quickest way to do that was to delete the Twitter app.

Apparently my brain can’t function without the serotonin hit of mindless scrolling and now I’m back on tumblr 🤦🏻‍♀️

Welcome to the world of Fake Karens, an emerging subgenre of content that is taking the internet by storm. The Karen is a reliable stock character in viral videos, whose smugness, entitlement, and outrage-inducing behavior is likely to garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of views. Large accounts like KarenClips, which has more than 393,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter), and Super Krazy Karens on TikTok, take a curatorial approach to such content, posting videos with captions such as “Karen at Starbucks Strikes Again!” and “Karen taking Ls!” In so doing, they capitalize on the current cultural appetite both for righteous outrage and, in some cases, for retribution, with many commenters working diligently to try to identify the Karens in the videos for public shaming purposes. (The fact that they’re big meme accounts that do not credit the source material also accomplishes the goal of obfuscating their origins.) One would assume that, in the real world, there is no shortage of entitled white women with bad haircuts behaving badly in public. Yet seemingly, within the viral ecosystem, the demand for genuine Karen videos outweighs the supply, as there’s increasingly been a number of viral Karen videos that were clearly produced under professional (or, at least, semi-professional) circumstances.

but watch out! 90% of the fandom is stubbornly determined to either ignore or whitewash any complexity found within the show. anything deemed too unpleasant, unpalatable, or beyond their understanding will be glossed over. if it doesn't fit neatly into their socially conservative worldview, it will be sanitised beyond recognition. they will use fictional characters as proxies to uncritically spout dominant cultural narratives around abuse victims. they will express the very same values systems that exclude and marginalise survivors of familial violence in the real world.

jacks has two accounts on instagram: one professional ”the official prince of hearts” type of account and one private account.

he rarely posts anything on his private account. when he does, it’s usually semi-blurry pictures where you can’t really tell what’s going on. also, the captions are usually inside jokes that only like two people besides him understand.

apollo followed him originally because they were kind of friends when he was known as lord jacks in the north. apollo never unfollowed him.

tella is tiktok famous. she likes to do little vlogs that usually end up being semi-chaotic.

she also picks up internet slang real fast and leaves everyone (read: scarlett) confused.

scarlett comments something supportive under every single one of tella’s posts. tella returns the favor but with far more exclamation marks and emojis than needed.

evangeline has a pretty, aesthetic account on instagram where she likes to share small beautiful things and moments from her daily life. occasionally, she shares a little story in the captions.

jacks replies to dms VERY inconsistently but he sends evangeline posts that remind him of her.

apollo also has two accounts: a professional one (which is called like @/real_king_apollo or something along those lines lmao) and a personal one. someone else manages the professional account (remember him posing for a portrait? imagine that but it’s a photoshoot for this account), and he probably posts mirror selfies on his private account.

he also lives in evangeline’s comment section. for real.

evangeline ignores him. jacks doesn’t, but he always comes up with the most funny comments ever.
