I miss doing stuff like this so I’m here after reading the one @ccprovolomies did :D

How did you find out about anime?

I watched anime all my childhood without knowing I was (Saint Seya, Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Doremi, Digimon, Pokemon, etc)

It was only until around 5th or 6th grade when the boys in class were excitedly talking about Naruto that was broadcasted on cable TV with Portuguese subtitles

(Which thank goodness at the time because now they only dub and I don’t expect kids to grow up and study Japanese like I did because they love dubbed stuff. I talk for myself I can’t watch Doraemon or Ninja Hattori unless it’s Spanish dubbed because that’s how I watched it as a kid)

that I discovered it was something Japanese

Also, it’s weird how my cousin would know how to do the jutsus signs but we never talked about animanga stuff until I brainwashed him into One Piece (I spent our 8th grade summer talking about every arc I watched and we’re talking about 500 epis at the time -.-’ )

What’s your favorite anime?

I have to say One Piece, because Oda-sensei is a genius in how detailed the artwork and specially the plot is. Like the manga is the same age as I am and there’s little stuff that happened all those years ago that connect to the present day. My mind gets blown away with it.

Also let me say I’m not a comedy person and the funny things in OP was a major block to start it but now I love it, I was a happy laughing 114-year-oldgirl that summer...Aside from that one, I’m all over the place in taste, like, my MyAnimeList has 800 completed and watching combined entries. I’m majorly a shounen & sports girl, but I like romance and shoujo ones too. Slice of life if they aren’t too slow and I run away from most comedy (I’m sorry Gintama and @ccprovolomies )

Do you have a favorite J-music/K-pop group/singer?

Regarding K-pop, just read my blogs description J-music is difficult to summarize because I listened to all openings and endings of those 00s and early 10s animes

When is your bday? And how old are you?

Today (26/03) I turn 25 and I’m ready for the quarter of a century existential crisis combined with all the 2020s drama still going on

Currently, what is your favorite fandom anime?

Sadly I don’t do much fandom interactions on Tumblr, but I follow One Piece and Avatar the Last Airbender through Facebook (which is a lot of print screened stuff from here ahahah) I was surprised to see how many people are on the Akagami no Shirayukihime, Akatsuki no Yona and Ao no Exorcist fandom, when I made posts about it the 100 notes came quickly!!

Despite the ups and downs of Tumblr, what motivates you to stay here today and do your best?

I know people from the old age, but I only started in 2016 during college and the start of my K-Pop era (which I delayed from centuries because I knew what a rabbit hole it was - like I listened to BoA, 2ne1 and Big Bang in Japanese only)

What motivates me? Organisational obession and a liking of GIF posts mostly

Before it was to be updated with K stuff, now it’s mostly for pretty stuff/artistic things/social awareness/anime & tv series

I come here to distract myself through destroying the always growing 1000 drafts and pinpoint how my queue will be scheduled (always alternative posts) and enjoy myself checking up all the blogs that give me notes like you @ccprovolomies

I know I’ve been going on a ML rant train as of late. And I’m really, really sorry. These are feelings that have been pentiing up since at least halfway through S2.And I want to finally vent them out so that I can be done with it and move on.

The show meant so much to me when it first started. If you go back through my blog to around 2015, you’ll see how excited I was. How much I loved everything. How much fun I had watching it. It had everything that I could want. A great female lead who can kick ass. A good male lead. An interesting dynamic with the identities that made things interesting. A likeable cast, and a few unlikebale ones like Chloe who got their just desserts. Cute animation. Creative villains and fight scenes. A larger narrative with so much mythos and future character arcs to explore.

As a huge fan of shows like Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura, this was heaven for me.

Which makes seeing how it’s gone since S1... so upsetting. I had such high hopes. Maybe too high?? Yeah, maybe. I had concerns. Like Chloe getting a Miraculous? After pulling shit like locking an insecure girl in a bathroom just to stand beside a boy? Yeah no, WTF? Characters who aren't terrible deserved FAR more attention than her. But hey, maybe they’d prove me wrong. Plus there were plenty of other things to look forward to.

And sadly, it all came crashing down.

Not only is Chloe’s redemption one of the worst that I have seen in a kids show (MLP:FIM’s instant redemptions felt more earned and those made me quit that show), but everything else fell flat to. Adrien became a complacent doormat who enabled bullying behavior and never grew. it’s hard to give a damn about his daddy issues if he refuses to grow up. Marinette kept having to screw up and have the narrative put her in a bad light, even though it’s both repetitive and outright insulting to her. Mari’s crush on Adrien is creepy and weird, but Cat Noir’s entitled crush on Ladybug and getting mad at her for not feeling the same way? Shame on her. The poor kitty! The Akuma of the weeks became less creative and just got boring and repetitive. And whenever something interesting DID come up (more Miraculous heroes, Mayura, Master Fu and learning more about Miraculous and being a Guardian) it all got flushed down the toilet for stupid love triangle antics. Seriously, Luka and Kagami are so pointless and deserved a better narrative than this.

And Lila... oh God Lila. First, her involvement should have been in freakin’ Season 2. Why did you drop her after S1 and wait this long to make her important? Second, her lies are embarrassing. They are so outlandish and sound more like something that a child would come up with when caught stealing from a cookie jar. Her only importance is to have someone to hate more than Chloe and make Marinette’s life worst. But it’s done so poorly and delivers so many horrible messages (WTF Chameleon? WTF) that in turn make Adrien look worst... it turned the problems form irritating to absolutely unbearable. Oh, and it still expects you to like people like Chloe cause of her Mommy Issue, despite still being awful and not trying to change. This is a prime example of how you do a redemption wrong. So, so wrong.

Sometimes, I look back at the show. I remember how excited and enthusiastic I was. And the worst part? I still care about the show. I still adore Marinette so much. I still find the mythos and potentially interesting. I still care about Adrien despite all fo my problems with him. I still want to see Hawk Moth get defeated, I still want to see Mari and Adrien together. I still want this show to do well and magically do a 180 that gets it back on track. And it sucks because I look at recent episodes, and my anger and disappointment bubble right back up. It’s not the first time that a series I cared for let me down. Naruto did it. Bleach did it. Spongebob Squarepants did it. My Little Pony did it. And other shows and works will do it again sooner or later.

I guess it just hurts that, once again, a show that I loved let me down, yet I can't bring myself to hate it. And I know that there are fanon and stuff still out there. And there’s a lot of good ones! Going and reading a random fic on AO3 really helps fill the void when I get the urge to revisit the series. Still... it sucks when the show itself makes you feel so happy, only to disappoint you in the end. I tried so hard to excuse it or give it the benefit of the doubt... but that can only go so far. I had to admit that the show quit being good and let it go. Which sucks.

Anyways, sorry. This was building up for a long time. If you still enjoy the show, more power to you. I just wanted to get this out of my system. Thank you for your time.

Sarazanmai - Thoughts

I’ve been hearing so much hype about the ending, and I just watched the end. I’m just going to voice some candid thoughts. That’s why I call it “thoughts”; it isn’t a proper review or anything.

Long story short:

It was a pretty good series! It wasn’t amazing or anything, but it was fun to watch for the most part. I couldn’t take it seriously at times, but I still found myself invested in it at some points. The art was nice, the music was great, and the voice acting was pretty good too! I would recommend this series to people who like kappas, drama, and butts.

Kunihiko Ikuhara is credited with directing many masterpieces (that I haven’t watched) including Revolutionary Girl Utena (which he also created), Sailor Moon R, Sailor Moon S, Mawaru Penguindrum, and more. His work is praised by a lot of people in the anime community, and he does have a lot of talent. He incorporates themes that aren’t usually seen in anime which is fully present in Utena where childhood idealism, illusions, ambition, adulthood, sexuality, abuse, and identity are all prominent themes. Many regular tropes are known to be deconstructed. When people heard he was making Sarazanmai, a lot of people were excited! A stacked cast, Ikuhara himself, and the MAPPA production team? It was already set up for greatness.

But after all that hype, what’s left? I found myself a little disappointed after getting myself a little too excited. It wasn’t like other series where I went in with no expectations or other series where I actually did go in with high expectations that were delivered. I went in with these expectations, it delivered somewhat, and now I find myself with a slightly unsatisfied feeling.

Three boys accidentally break a statue then are tasked with becoming kappas and fighting zombies. They do this to return to their human form. At first, these three seem unconnected, but over time, secrets are revealed. They eventually accept the risks to collect dishes which can grant a wish. This is the sarcastic fantasy of three boys who don't feel connected to their important ones, getting to realize the real meaning of bonds.

It came off as being completely weird and bizarre, and it stays that way. In a way, it’s quirkiness was its strong-suit, but it finally got down to the drama and conflict in the story, I found myself not finding it seriously. The writing itself wasn’t bad, but with its art style and with its already outlandish plot, it ultimately made me feel a bit confused. When they had scenes that were supposed to evoke emotions, I couldn’t quite feel it right.

Especially when there’s a kappa in the frame. I kind of thought, “How am I supposed to feel when there’s this staring at me?”

I found that the only emotional scenes that even slightly hit the mark were the ones where all characters were in human form. Yeah, that’s right. I just said kappas ruin the mood.

Character: No! Don’t die! Me: *chuckles* he’s a fricking kappa.

Everything towards the end felt a little melodramatic. Don’t get me wrong, I can be down for melodrama. I’m that person who enjoyed Kiznaiver. I just felt like this series was episodic for the most part with a bit of sprinkling of the main story, and I couldn’t have done it any differently. I just felt like something was missing. Reo and Mabu’s storyline was only riveting towards the end. For the majority of the series, they are shrouded in mystery then we get a wham of backstory and stuff over the last few episodes before the climax with Hosoya and Mamo hit.

Speaking of voice acting, they kept Kouki Uchiyama to play the kid version of his character, and I didn’t mind that. The main trio was okay! Shun Horie, Ayumu Murase, and Kouki Uchiyama did great jobs! Ayumu does a great job voicing the darker and lighter moments (as expected since watching 5 episodes of Devilman). I feel like Ayumu and Kouki didn’t really do a role that was that much out of their zone. Kouki plays another edgy “cinnamon roll” while Ayumu plays another energetic boy (like Hinata from Haikyuu). I don’t know what Horie did in other anime though.

Mamo and Hosoya surprised me towards the end, but surprisingly, I would’ve directed one of Mamo’s lines differently during episode 10. I won’t say which one, but I felt like the character didn’t portray emotion properly. Besides that, those two have acted in so much together. The music they provided was great (even though there were only two songs).

The art was okay! It was very out-there, new, and fresh, but it wasn’t stand out enough that when I watched it, I went, “HOLY MOLY GUACAMOLE”. It was nice, fluid, and it was definitely... sexual. I haven’t seen so much butt and a**s (b-hole) stuff.

The music was really catchy! I know Yukari Hashimoto for composing the music for Toradora, 3-Gatsu no Lion, Gekkan Shoujo, and a few other things. While I can’t always say that her music sticks like glue, I can say that there are certain tracks that still resonate with me. I gotta admit, the quality of the overall series affects how much I like an OST. This one was repetitive enough (with its episodic nature) to be catchy.

Oh yeah, the ED by the Peggies was better (for me) than Kimi no Sei from Seishun Buta Yarou (which I didn’t really like... please don’t kill me). The opening was so much fun. I really liked it. It ranks up there with that Naruto OP. I can feel its significance growing, and I listened to it more than once (which is rare for me)

Anyways, I can’t be the only one who had a hard time really getting with the drama of this series. It was pretty good... it wasn’t great, but I still enjoyed watching this. Unlike most anime series, this ends on a good note.

I would rate this a 7.5/10 (rounding it up to an 8 on MAL)

Spoiler Part:

Toi went to a juvenile detention centre for three years but for which crime? If you murder someone and tried as an adult, that’s an automatic 20+ years. If it was truly self-defence, he would’ve been pardoned. So, what was he exactly charged for?

Reo and Mabu were great, and I didn’t realize their greatness until the end because their side plot was put off until the end. Mamo mostly did a good job. Hosoya’s role wasn’t as tasking as maybe some of his other ones. I’m just glad to see Hosoya singing and working together with Mamo. I think we all wanted to see that.

I still can’t take kappas seriously. Have we learned anything from Arakawa Under the Bridge?

The ending was great though. I found that saved its rating because some anime end so badly that it goes from a 9 to a 4 real fast (nothing beats reading what happened in Usagi Drop which continues to be a scar on my mind that bursts out bleeding whenever remembered)

- Gintama (Sadaharu’s sacrifice...I fucking cried like a baby and screamed at my laptop, Shoguns death...I was shocked...utterly shocked)

- I was 6 years old when Pokémon began airing as a children’s show, that’s my first step. Then I watched Naruto and Gintama on-off in my teens.

When I was 20 years old I dived into anime head first. I binged Naruto in like three months...I just ate it up. All the characters were familiar to me and I had always wanted to watch it from beginning to end. I also binged Inuyasha and ATLA (I know it’s not anime, I just love it so much!).

I had Naruto and my husband had One Piece. I wanted something to watch together and I Gintama popped into my mind (like hey! It was mad funny. I had only seen like three episodes but it stuck with me). Then we began to watch it binged it together from beginning to Farewell Shinsengumi Arc and now we are here...waiting for the end.

Also Attack on Titan is something we watch together. #bingewatch

- Uh...I don’t know. I’m a sucker for a pretty face and they tend to be the popular ones. So I don’t know : D

- Hate is a strong word, but I’m not that hyped about Takasugi Shinsuke from Gintama, but I DO NOT HATE HIM! Just not my favorite : )

25. Anime you would recommend to someone who hates anime.

- I’ll always answer Gintama. For someone who hates anime, must have some sort of ideas of anime and why they hate it. Maybe some hate the ridiculous boobs or they just don’t get it. Well, Gintama doesn’t have gigantic boobs on every character and it’s okay if you don’t like anime, Gintama apparently hates every anime out there too.

- I don’t read manga but have read one called Cherry Juice

27. Anime you plan to watch in the future

- Oh my god! If I had the time I would definitely watch these:

- Yuri on Ice! (I know, shame on me for not watching it...I know), Free!, Black Butler, FMA (I’ve watched couple of episodes here and there, but not from beginning to end), Boku no Hero Academia (I already know I’m gonna love that red and white haired boy...Todoroki? And I already ship him with that black haired girl, Momo was it?), Persona 5 the anime when I find the binge time : ))), there are a lot of interesting ones out there, but here’s already quite a bunch for me (to fill the hole in my heart when Gintama ends)

28. Most upsetting moment in anime and why?

- Attack on Titan: So many horrible moments, but I SCREAMED when that one titan ate Erwin’s arm. The death of Squad Levi, The fucking first episode a.k.a. the death of Carla.

- Gintama: I got chills when Utsuro first appeared, everyone were so serious (even Sougo and Kagura, I remeber their eyes forever), the moments when Utsuro nearly killed Gintoki (first fight), Yamazaki (second fight) and Shinpachi (first fight), the moment when Utsuro’s mask broke, oh my god Gintoki’s face!!!, and when Sadaharu literally began to disappear (my heart hurts just by thinking about it), Shoguns assassination (I still can’t believe it)

29. Anime that deserves another season.

- Gintama xD hehe. I think Maid Sama! I would have loved to see it till the end. Sakamoto desu ga absolutely and The Devil is a Part-Timer! These short gems deserve so much more!

30. One anime conclusion you would change.

- Okay, I haven’t watched Bleach, BUT my husband has and for him, I would end Bleach with Aizen arc and make Ichigo and Rukia the canon couple.

- Also, Sorachi-sensei...Imma gonna have to change my answer on this one if you don’t make Okikagu canon...pretty please!
