Sorry about the bad news! I decided to gather some out of context TEG notes from my document in hopes to cheer you up a little:

Chapter 1:

First impressions, they find each other strange looking. Rodimus finds SW creepy and SW finds Rod gaudy in amount of pieces and color scheme. This is fun to watch change later on.

Chapter 13:

Rodimus is the first person Soundwave opens up to willingly without being forced to answer. He doesn’t even like Rodimus but the fact Rodimus is only one giving him a chance already makes him more willing to share internal stuff.

Chapter 16:

First instance of SW feeling good things in general (in a non-malevolent way, since the incident) but also feeling good things towards Rodimus. Also first time Laserbeak flutters against his chest in response to Rodimus.

Chapter 19:

Soundwave experiences whimsy. While still anxious and easily irritated with the LL crew, he felt comfortable enough at his party to laugh. In this same chapter he is bothered by being the most hated mech on the ship too. He has nothing left to loose at this time and is settling into life there whether he consciously admits it or not.

Chapter 21:

He’s making fucking friends, let’s go!!!

Chapter 22:

(1) Nautica is naturally friendly, quite like Tailgate, they don’t really have a reason to like SW at all but they want to try regardless. She is very excited to meet SW and I get the sense that while wary of him of course, she believes Soundwave to be gentler than he is— that he just hasn’t had the chance to show it yet.

(2) SW is being a supreme dumbass this chapter.

Chapter 23:

You could cut that tension with a knife, ease up girls.

Chapter 24:

He’s feeling guilty for what he did! Huzzah! Yes you are an asshole!

Chapter 25:

(1) TENTACLE WIGGLIES.

(2) Call back to when they first met, Rodimus did indeed punch him then and it was hilarious.

(3) Rodimus definitely likes cuddling. He made the moves to lean against slenderman.

(4) SW that’s called being happy.

Chapter 26:

He’s learned earning things is more satisfying than taking them, especially when it comes to making Rodimus happy. Regardless for a while he still struggles between what’s good for the ship, what makes Rodimus happy and his own hunger to know everything and do things that only benefit him.

Chapter 27:

(1) My king that’s called enjoying a conversation.

(2) Whirl is crazy!! Slay!!

(3) Whirl is spitting bars actually.

(4) SW literally risks being lost to space to retrieve the vial, the life threatening fight looses priority against the promise Rodimus made him.

(5) TG being a fucking boss. SWs realization that such a small mech can restrain him and that he’s greatly underestimated TG is hilarious.

Chapter 28:

Dude you are so in love.

Chapter 29:

Yes, SW, that’s how making friends works.

Chapter 30:

(1) This is funny to me, some security mechs have noticed the frequency in which Soundwave and Rodimus are seen together but they have it wrong here. It is Rodimus who brings SW along whenever he can, SW doesn’t believe he has the agency to follow Rodimus around without Rodimus asking first.

(2) Less swagger, more purpose is a hilarious line.

Chapter 31:

Do not take Rodimus away from his creepy shadow. He cannot stand being separated from his creepy shadow— he is lonely.

Chapter 34:

(1) I am going to die of heartbreak.

(2) Rodimus you’re behaving like a toddler.

(3) Mirage doesn’t speak of Skywarp here because for some reason he still believes he will face repercussions for loving a decepticon. Meanwhile, Rodimus (the autobot co-captain of the LL) is glaring at his decepticon boyfriend for ignoring him.

Chapter 35:

Yes, Rodimus your boyfriend is creepy. What else is new.

Also, ya know if his village gets cable they can probably communicate to other people

Also, so, this inuit kid named his bear friend a bastardized version of the word for bear in his presumably native tongue

According to Marco polar bears hunt for fun b/c they are capable of going without eating for awhile. Almost like its difficult to find food in the fucking arctic and requires time and luck. These fuckmothering writers

The venber are strong enough to bend steel in their hands

Poor venbers

So there might be two surviving venber at the lest. If the yeerks can’t track and recapture them. If their programming stopped and they still arent attacking all quadrupeds putting them at odds with the locals who probably own dogs.

The book is finished at least. Did not enjoy that.

Anyone else think Neptune’s sigh might mean something more than just annoyance? I know Sun said his team was okay with the small hiatus, but what if they weren’t? Also maybe he was insulted by Sun implying that his team was just standing around without him, that while Sun was going on his adventure time standed still with them. Sun’s a good kid, and was mature enough to let Blake go once she got her real team back, but even to his own admittance he’s not the best leader. Just saying, food for thought.

9:05 A nice snowy train where nothing bad is gonna happen. And INSIDE THE TRAIN-

-a totally not-suspicious looking Maz Napata from Star Wars meets old lady Katara from Legend of Korra who will TOTALLY not interact with the main cast...totally. BUT-enough about that-BEHOLD-

9:22 ALL of team Rwby sleeping in a bunkbed room like the good old days-HUZZAH! But all is not well AS THERE IS ALSO-

SUPER AWKWARD TENSION BETWEEN YANG AND BLAKE! But nah, Yang tells Blake that while things are weird and it’ll take a while before things get back to normal, she glad she and her posse are back together which PROMPTS-

THIS cuteness, which Whiterose shippers will interpret how they will.

Either way its TIME TO PLAY VIDEO GAM-

DAMN that was a tough crash, it made Qrow lose his usually iron grip on booze! A THEN CUT TO-

...the...beginning of the episode...yeah I don’t know why they wrote the story like this either, I guess to start the season with a bang in showing how team RWBY is back in sync but I dunno.

But hey don’t worry, DEE AND DUDLEY are on the case, and I’m sure it TOTALLY doesn’t matter that Dee is two weeks from retirement!

*GASP* I am truly shocked. You shall always be remembered Dee, as a creepy weirdo who tried shake down a bunch of highschoolers for money.

THEN fighting fighting fighting, AND THEN-Dundey remembers he’s a security officer in charge of a high tech train!

I show four pictures here to point out that that WHOLE sequence took less than a MINUTE! Its like WE GET IT Rooster Teeth, you have an animation budget now!

It also activated the turrets which take out ALL four of these Grimm, which I’m SURE the boss Grimm won’t notic-

12:46 Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhit it noticed. It tells the lesser Grimm to attack the turrets and...oh god I found this by accident but it must be shared-

It landed-ASS FIRST! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

And as to be expected knocking out the turrets didn’t JUST take out their defenses-

But ALSO-put the passengers in danger. Its like, use the turrets some Grimm die but they’ll attack the train more, DON’T use the turrets and they’ll attack anyway with less dead grimm, its a total catch 22!

Obviously bad-ass Qrow Branwen realizes and gets his TOP GUY TO STOP DUNDY-

...Oscar...desperate times I suppose.

Dundey like an idiot DOESN’T listen to the logical decision to turn off the glowing red fuck me spots for the Grimm to hit, and even MORE idiotically-

*CRACK* NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

...decides to hang from the SIDE of a train going into a tunnel....instead of finding a way to duck...how many good Huntsmen/Huntresses did Salem’s unnamed faction kill, because I can’t help thinking he and his late partner were scraped from the bottom of the barrel.

BACK in the train, everyone’s as completely calm as they possibly could be.

14:19 Qrow: I SAID, turn those damn things OFF! *SLAM*

Seriously, in this situation Qrow is SUPER calm, I’d wanna kick his ass too.

Ruby then ACTUALLY calmly asks the guy to turn off the turrets(she’s got resolve of STEEL that one) AND THEY COME UP WITH A PLAN-to use a combo of Jaune’s Aura-booster powers and Ren’s emotion mask powers to mask the train. A plan that I’m sure will go off without ONE hit-

15:32 Oscar: I’m afraid there’s one complication.

Son of a god damned bitch Oz, I SWEAR TO GOD!

“The Grimm are also attracted...to this.”

Logically team Rugby O’Shaunnesy is as pissed at Oz as the fans for putting everyone in danger without telling them because he’s a mysterious wizard.

BUT-they gotta stay on task and kick Oscar in the nuts later, THEY MUST SAVE THE PYORPLES!

Sadly, they realize that they have to seperate the car with the passengers masked by Ren and Jaune, from the one with Team RWBY Qrow and a dumb old man in a child’s body. The two teams have to say good bye.

Jaune: Only if you’ll promise you’ll meet us there.

Ruby: Promise.

Weiss: Just know it’ll probably take a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time for us to get there.

Qrow: I estimate about 12 to 14 epis-I MEAN days.

Team Bad-name-pun then SPRINGS INTO ACTION-getting all the passengers in the front car-

-including this one bespectacled passenger who will in no way affect the plot in any way no and forever QUIT ASKING ABOUT IT!

Blake then cuts the cable cars-BUT SEES-

GAH-stalker much? I can’t believe Adam followed them-OR DID HE-

Is it actually Adam, or PTSD induced hallucination, FIND OUT NEXT EPISODE!

And what’s cool about the next sequence is that it needed NO explanation, you get it obviously from what you see.

Rubes gets JUST enough of a signal from Nora-

-so the MOMENT the Grimm land-

-they start the maneuver.

No real comment on here other than how I LOVE how the black and white color palette over-takes the colored train car.

And then BACK TO FIGHTING!

And dear GOD there are so many great Grimm-kills here, so many I’d be here ALL day cutting and pasting every single one so I’ll just put the boss take down-STEP ONE-

Yang slides herself to the back-

-Blake THROWS it to Yang-

-AND YANG JUST PUNCHES THAT SHIT BACK-

-tying that greasy Grimm in PLACE-WHICH WEISS CONTINUES-

-with a classic “Freeze that fucker’s wings off attack”(with assistance from Ruby and Qrow of course for shattering said wings)-and then Uncle and Niece-

-get they scythes in gear-

-AND THEY SLASH THAT BITCH IN TWO! AND.THIS.IS.JUST.THE.FIRST.EPISODE!

BUT-the beast lets out ONE last fireball knocking them off track and....EVERYONE IS OKAY-incluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuding-

-THIS LADY-whose name I’ve read is Maria Callavera! Turns out she WASN’T just a random side character, I couldn’t tell with how HEAVILY lampshaded it was!

AND THAT’S VOLUME 6 EP 1-a fantastic start to the season with AMAZING action and animation, and great story-progression. Minor criticism, I still feel they didn’t need to do a “Something hours earlier” thing with the train battle, they could’ve easily done the story in sequential order and it would have worked just as well if not better. Last week of current challenges... except for the DGC, because I fell a bit behind schedule there. Oops.

Dec. 21

I woke up pretty much at noon.

Played some cards and wasted a lot of time on the usual. Only did a couple of my planned exercise for the day.

First, today’s DD. 30 infinity circles with EC. Not much to say, other than it was pretty enjoyable!

Yeah... Didn’t do DGC stuff again, either. But I did get to bed in the yellow zone. So there’s that.

Dec. 22

Another day I got up at about noon, having set my alarm for that. Maybe it will press me towards fixing my sleep schedule... but today won’t be that day.

Did much of the usual, with exercise interspersed.

First, today’s DD. 40 single leg bridges with EC. This was pretty doable and a nice way to get my day moving! :D

Second, Day 22 of the ‘19AC. 4′ side leg raise hold (2′/2′, lateral decubitus.) This was pretty doable but intense. I especially wanted to make sure to hips were stacked and not leaning, for a bit more effort. At least, I think so.

Third, Day 25 of the KMC. 160 side kicks, switch halfway. Did 80/80 in one go, pretty handily.

Fourth, Day 25 of the DHC. 2x10″ dead hangs. Not much to really comment on these days. I do like them though, during low energy days.

Dec. 23

I woke up after 2PM, today. Oof.

Picked up some meds and did a bit more of the usual, before today’s exercises.

First, today’s DD. 3′ half jacks with EC, barely. Took about 3 tries, the problem was too much sugar/caffeine, not enough water, and going too fast to sustain the pace. First go was ~2'+1' = 114+100. Second go, was still too fast/inconsistent, but the third was at a more slow & deliberate pace - with a total of 109 reps. Whew! That was a fun challenge.

Second, Day 23 of the ‘19AC. 30″ push-up plank hold. Did it in one go, but it was kinda sloppy. Regardless, It was just good enough for me. :/

Third, Day 26 of the KMC. 160 turning kicks + 160 side kicks. Did it in 1 set of (80/80) + (80/80). This was made more tough after doing so many half jacks earlier. But I’m glad I was able to manage.

Fourth, Day 26 of the DHC 1′40″ dead hang. Done in 50"+25"+10"+15", with ~20" rest in between sets. That was pretty fucking brutal & required a bit of psyching myself up for it - but I still find it fun.

Dec. 24

I got up a bit before 3PM today. Bleh.

Did much of the usual before exercising.

First, today’s DD. 40 split lunges with EC. This took a bit of willpower to get through - but I'm happy I could manage. :P

Second, Day 24 of the 2019 Advent Calendar. Last day to this challenge. 4 minute relax (child’s pose). I thought this was a wonderful way to end the Advent Calendar. And it was pretty soothing to kind sit there and just meditate a bit. And overall, I rather liked the theme that everything here were holds of some kind - felt very unified! :D

Third, Day 27 of the KMC. 100 double turning kicks. Pretty handily did it in one set of 50/50.

Fourth, Day 27 of the DHC. 2x10″ dead hangs. This was pretty simple and fun. Swung a little more in the second set than ideal. But 10″ is pretty easy, now.

Last, Day 24 of the DGC. I’m grateful:

That my brother has been doing the dishes more, despite me not telling him to do so (I had intention to do the dishes today, but he just took it upon himself.)

Dec. 25

I woke up just shy of 1PM today.

Did a bit of the usual before heading out to the grandparents’ place for the holiday.

Had a pretty good dinner, played some cards, had some tense moments. But at least Grandpa didn’t call the cops on the uncle. It’s sad to say that’s an improvement.

First, today’s DD. 2′ meditation with EC. It's always lovely to take a moment to meditate, especially after some tense moments.

Third, Day 28 of the KMC. 3x 40 turning kicks + 40 side kicks. I did it in one superset of 3x (20/20 + 20/20). Pretty simple and to the point work.

Fourth, Day 28 of the DHC. 1′50″ dead hang. I managed it in 1'+25"+20"+8". Wound up with a blood blister though. I was thinking I would stick some bandages on it for the remaining 2 days of this challenge. but various forums be like "open, clean, and dress it." :I

Last, Day 25 of the DGC. I’m grateful:

That there were some things that were good/okay about how the day went.

That I’ve opted not to go to the facility tomorrow - so I can sleep in.

That I’ve some good ways to plan ahead when it comes to exercise.

I went to bed only a few minutes earlier than yesterday.

Dec. 26

I got up a bit before 2PM, I think.

After a bit of the usual, I went straight into my exercise.

First, today’s DD. 2′ leg extensions with EC (donkey kicks). I counted exactly 100 reps by the end. This was a bunch of fun! :D

Second, Day 29 of the KMC. “16 balance kicks side & turning both each leg, no putting your foot down.“ Had a few moments of wobbling and nearly losing my center - but I’m glad I could do things pretty well.

Third, Day 29 of the DHC. 2x10″ dead hangs. I decided to approach it with some bandaging on hand with the blister. It was a bit tough, but the blister didn't rupture. That leaves tomorrow with a bit of a question mark. If it's going to pop, that's when I think it'll happen. orz

Dec. 27

I woke up just a bit after noon, today. Yay.

I did a bit of the usual, before reserving some more trips and archiving the last couple months’ DDs. Then, I started on my exercise.

First, today’s DD. 2′ arm extensions with EC. I counted 147 reps by the end of it, and I'm happy about keeping it above 1/sec. I had a lot of fun with this one! :D

Third, Day 30 of the Kick Master Challenge. 200 turning kicks + 200 side kicks, done in 2 sets of 100/100. Did get mildly winding, but still manageable.

Fourth, Day 30 of the Dead Hang Challenge. 2′ dead hang. I walked into this with some trepidation, but I got through it better than I expected! It took 6 sets to do it, but I got it done (45"+25"+10"+10"+17"+13"). I bandaged my blistered hand... and it didn't tear open! Huzzah! \o/

Dead/clotted blood mass may've torn a little bit away from nearby capillaries, what with some brighter red being visible. Did rub off a bit of superficial layer for offhand and the calloused ridging is a bit tender underneath - but no surface injuries at least. I count that as a personal victory! And now - my hands will get their much needed break from the pull-up bar. \o/

Last, Day 27 of the DGC. I’m grateful:

That my hands didn’t tear open, during the DHC. Despite it feeling a bit touch and go for a minute there!

That I only tentatively slotted in the Flex Hang Challenge after that. Because, oh man. That’d be a bad idea.

That I have plans to be excited for, in terms odf exercise... which I’ll get into, right after this sentiment.

Summary & Plans:

A day late, but I finished all my challenges but the Daily Gratitude Challenge (ETA in 3 days, barring further interruptions), in Dec. 27.

Altogether - I greatly enjoyed the Kick Master Challenge for expected reasons. I also liked how the structure had a few variations to go through. I was mostly able to keep the “in one workouts” to at most 2 sets, shortened the rests between all sets to a bare minimum, and didn’t fall out of the balance days even once! (I did contemplate on bounce-switching more often than I actually did, partly to mind the knees.)

I surprisingly really enjoyed going through the Dead Hang Challenge! I found it more fun than holding planks, DESPITE flirting with tearing my hands open near the end of it. Thankfully, using bandages in the last 2 days were enough to stave that disaster off.

As far as metrics for that went:

I hit a PB of 1′. Which I’m proud of

I had to break incremented days into multiple sets for 9 days (12 & 16-30), ranging from 2-6 sets, with ~15-30″ rests in between.

My plans starting tomorrow (technically today, but shhh...) are as follows.

I’m going to spend the next 6 weeks doing the Knee Conditioning Program I found a bit ago. The first week, I’ll be doing free-form warm-ups for each day. I think I’ll cycle through upperbody, ab, and (low/mid-impact) cardio workouts, as a complement.

Then, by the second week I’ll either jump in with the new DAREBEE Program(s!) Zero Hero, Baseline, or re-run Cardio Go! and use them for some supplementary cardio/rounding and warm-up. This will depend on which I feel will be more compatible with where I’m at.

Lots of things going on!

Music Stuff

Music music music. Finished up a commission, and will need to try to quickly knock out two more (short) ones in the early part of December. Also, ~Monthlies 2018.11~ is released! Was really fun drawing the cute quail for that album cover.

Pottermore Stuff

I forgot to mention a long time ago that I got around to taking the Pottermore sorting quiz -- previously I had only taken the Patronus and Wand quizzes.

My Patronus ended up being a Brown Hare, not too much I can really say about that.

My wand was a bit more interesting, "Ebony wood with a Phoenix feather core 14 ½" and Unbending flexibility". It's pretty spot on, as Ebony is for people who hold real strong to their beliefs (yep) and aren't afraid to be non-conforming because of it (yep). Phoenix cores are rare and difficult to tame, which I don't think is particularly surprising either, makes sense that I would get something tricky and complex. The wand is pretty long and skinny, but so am I, haha. And do I even need to comment on "unbending flexibility"? Of course...

I ended up sorting into Hufflepuff, yay! I always knew it'd be Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, but didn't know which one. I don't think I could stand either of Gryffindor OR Slytherin, so as long as I'm out of those two I think I'd do just fine. Ravenclaw was my initial thought since I'd be with a bunch of nerdy bookworms, but in hindsight, Hufflepuff is probably the house for me. I'm no Hermione, that's for sure, and I think I'm set apart from Ravenclaw a bit by my focus on the practical and pragmatic...I think I would get into trouble if I'm around too many intellectuals who strive for knowledge and debate just for the sake of itself (speaking from experience...). And I would prioritize my consistency over my intelligence in a heartbeat -- I've always been more Green than Blue, after all (in regards to Magic: the Gathering). I think Ravenclaw would be more willing and ready to change themselves in order to do things more efficiently or just adapt to changing circumstances whereas Hufflepuff is more content with things just comfortably staying the same. I think that also speaks to my Introverted Thinking being tertiary rather than primary or secondary; I definitely have an interest in understanding the logic and systems of how things work but I'm more than willing to sacrifice that when it comes into conflict with the tried and true.

Game Stuff

Hollow Knight - My completion percentage is climbing quite more quickly than I anticipated -- I'm already at 97%! I feel like that's a bit of a misleading number though, as there's definitely a lot more than 3 more things I have left to do. I've just gotten the other half of the Kingsoul from the White Palace and am now ready to go through that door and get the Void Heart. I've still got some charms to go find in random places as well, and I still have a ton of geo to collect in order to get more of the unbreakable charms, etc etc etc. But it's still been fun so far!

Dark Souls - Not too much to report, but we've cleared out most of the rest of Sen's Fortress (minus the annoying Titanite Demons in the tar pit, but I'm thinking maybe to do those after another trip to the Undead Asylum to grab the Rusted Iron Ring). We've started going through the very first part of Anor Londo with the huge knights, which were quite intimidating at first but are a lot easier once you figure out how to best tackle them (just tightly circle around them and stay near their butts). At some point it might be a good idea to try and farm some more sunlight medals to get access to Great Lightning Spear, though that does require 30 Faith so I've got some time before that'll even be possible to cast (we're at 25 faith right now, guess I should start investing more into faith -- the last point was into dex). We're still swinging around the Iaito +10, which has been serving well, though we'll see if we open up any other useful weapon choices once we meet the giant blacksmith.

Xmas Stuff

Surprise! I thought I was done with xmas letters but I actually got another mailing address, so I just finished my =32nd= (and final?) xmas letter. I still need to figure out a few more gifts but I've actually already handled a lot of them which is nice. Shopping online via Amazon is definitely making things easier this year...

Coding Stuff

In addition to having LoopMuse updated and running again, I've also gone and rescued/updated RelentlessWaves! Huzzah!

Cooking Stuff

I did it! I made prime rib! (not actually "prime grade", but let's just say a rib roast is considered "prime rib")

I got way too much meat from the butcher (I seem to have a issue panicking in these sorts of situations!), so I split it into two and cooked it twice. This is definitely the most money I've ever spent on meat before...made sure to enlist help making it go to good use...

Made sure to apply liberal salt and pepper and stick them uncovered in the refrigerator beforehand. I kept on thinking I had been too heavy-handed with the salt, but that didn't end up being an issue at all. I guess you really do want to season it super well when it's a piece of meat this big.

Here's how the first slab turned out. I used a reverse sear, meaning low and steady oven heat to cook the roast all the way through to medium-rare, followed by a short blast in a blazing hot roasting oven to brown the exterior.

The slices looked (and tasted) great, and they're mostly medium-rare throughout. I had it with a bit of simple store-bought horseradish cream which I enjoyed.

The second slab (which I don't have photos of) was sort of more interesting as it had been in the fridge for around 4 days before I roasted it. I decided to trim off a bit of the exterior since I reasoned it had probably gotten TOO dried out (or possibly even gone bad) during its fridge time. I'd like to think that was the right call given that 4 days is beginning to creep up into "I'm dry-aging this meat" territory, but I can't really say for sure. It turned out just fine either way, though I got a bit impatient and used 180-degrees instead of 170-degrees for the low roast, so it was probably a bit less evenly cooked. It ended up being a mistake as the roast was ready way before the correct eating time so I had to reheat it. Not the end of the world certainly, but the first one probably ended up being better.

I'd say it was a success all around. Having a better cut of meat would probably increase the flavor, but there's only so much I'm willing to splurge on something like this (I guess it is once a year...). Maybe getting a higher grade / more marbled piece, but way smaller? I also know to not worry about oversalting next time, too. Once other thing is that I think I can shorten the high heat browning step a little bit. I think the exterior crust ended up being browned well enough and there's a tiny bit of grey banding near the edges of the roast. I'd rather sacrifice some of the browning to get rid of some of that grey, I think.

Anyways, hooray! Now to stay light on red meat for a while...speaking of which, it's been forever and a day since I've just cooked a plain ribeye steak, so that may probably be the next real red meat item to try? I haven't actually done the whole sous-vide followed by blowtorching in a hot cast iron pan thing yet, so I could definitely try that. ....maybe after the holiday season is over, lol.

Oh, cornbread happened too:

It was pretty....fine. Not super delicious by itself, but I mean, cornbread isn't naturally super delicious? It was a bit overcooked because I had totally forgotten I was using the convection setting on my oven, so whoops! Could have probably been more moist if I had not made that mistake. The bottom side definitely got burnt:

But the middle was pretty alright, so phew.

Oh, also, pumpkin pie happened:

Lol turns out I don't have a photo of the ACTUAL pie so you just get a photo of the "leftover filling" pie, which was much scrappier. It still tasted fine though! There wasn't really too much to mess up here, just blend all the filling ingredients together and bake it...simple and effective, and it definitely tasted like....good pumpkin pie. Would I make it on a regular basis? Probably not. The apple crumble thinger that I make is probably a bit more exciting. But if I am making a pie, this might be the one!

Ludum Dare 43

Starts tomorrow! Wish us the best of luck! =D I've updated to Unity 2018, which hopefully should not cause any issues. (also updated to the latest of LeanTween and SInput) Unity 2018 has its own pixel perfect camera implementation (currently a preview package), which I might play around with once I get back to Rhythm Quest development as a replacement for the other pixel perfect camera scripts I use. I don't see anything in the changelogs about fixing seamless audio in WebGL though =( Bleh.

Life

In general is going pretty well, with the notable hiccup/bump here and there that I'd rather not get into. But yes, in general I'm doing well! Keeping busy with a bunch of good things, while not getting =too= stressed out. Every so often I will have days of existential crises about the past, but that's something I feel is part of my very being, so I don't really think that's something I would even try to reconcile...

Anyways, I would say 4 out of 5 mostly* (?) right now, which honestly is what I'm happy with. I'm not one to need a 5 out of 5 all the time...

Monday, March 12th- I sat in on two meetings today, in an effort to learn about enumeration and how to run my own business. Sean’s presentation sort of stole the show, but I had researched the topic as well.

I have Articles of Organization for my company, with a name checked out from the start. My company would be hiring two experienced people and five fresh-out-of-college employees. The only way I’ll be able to afford it is on a hourly rate. Thus, the fresh employees (and myself) will be about $17 an hour, while the experienced employees will be around $23 an hour. In total, I will have to pay $148 per hour to pay myself and all of my employees. We work 8 hours a day, five days a week. So, 40 hours a week. Over 52 weeks, it would be 2,080 hours. Over fifteen years, 31,200 hours. Thus, over 15 years, assuming I give twice as much in the latter half (to account for raises throughout (which amounts to $296 per hour)), I would pay $2,308,000 the first seven and a half years, and $4,616,00 the second. In total, over fifteen years, I estimate that I would be paying roughly $7,000,000 on my employees. To make this more realistic, I will be making this 55 hours a week. Divide by eight, multiply by three, and add to the original and- huzzah! The cost skyrockets to $9,625,000.

Four of them will be artists, and in order to have them all using both Blender and Z-Brush, I will have to pay $5050 per person per three years. Multiply by four people and by five (to get 15 years), and the overall cost for those programs is $101,000 for 15 years.

Thus far, I will need to recoup $9,726,000 by the fifteen-year mark.

I will add in $200,000 in total taxes, which may seem a bit extreme. Still, I need to get a high estimate so that the actual result is the worst-case scenario. In addition, I will state that I will need $1,000,000 for supplies and rent for my workplace.

New Estimate: $10,726,000.

And, to make things as difficult as possible, our team will be using Unreal and a publisher that takes 20%. Thus, our game will need to pay 25% in royalties to our development. Divide total cost thus far by 4, multiply by five, and then we have my nightmarish total cost (right now): $13,410,000.

This isn’t even the worst part. Not even close.

I will estimate that, to start this all up, I will need to take a loan of $13,500,000 from the bank. The total interest rate is a rather horrible .2 per month. This becomes absolutely disgusting really fast.

180 total months. (1.2^180) times $13,500,000. This is seriously bad.

2.42*10E21. This amount of debt is beyond comprehension. It’s more than our national dept by over a billion times.

So... I would instead opt for an angel investor. Which would “only” leave me with $135,000,000 in debts.

I know that this is highly unrealistic, so I will decide to use more realistic numbers for the bank loan.

5% interest quarterly. It’s sensible, but it will still be pretty bad.

(1.05^60)*13500000 = around $25,250,000. Thus, this ideal bank loan would be preferable to all other options.

For fifteen years, it’s not bad. It could be much, much worse. $25,250,000 for eight employees, business security, taxes, royalties, workspace. I feel this is decently accurate.

Tuesday, March 14th- Today, I finished writing the full version of the analysis shown above (it was previously insubstantial when it came to employee costs), and from there continued to do some writing. Our theme is- no joke- “Snoods and Fezes”. Because this theme is so absurdly wacky, I decided to try and produce a story that is similarly wacky. Lastly, due to some mild stress on my part, I added more detail to an elevator speech that I need to turn into a real game design.

Wednesday, March 15th- We had a course-wide meeting today concerning violence in video games and how it connects to violence in real life. It was a meeting in the purest sense- it was a discussion where many people offered their thoughts and opinions. Towards the end of the meeting, Mr. Compton raised the question of what each of us would never work on due to a moral basis. I had only barely thought about it in the past, and so I spent the rest of my time pondering my limits. Here’s what I found:

I want to understand where my limits stand with what I am and am not willing to work on in a video game.

This idea is, for most of the roles in game development, clear-cut and simple. There isn’t much the person can do if they encounter these other than to fight any offending decisions or to just leave. My role, as a designer, is a little different.

A game designer should never find themselves in a situation they didn’t set up. If they have, they are being micromanaged by their boss. That being the case, the options available are roughly the same as those other roles face. If that is not the case, if none of a designer’s superiors are attempting to force this idea, then the idea can be altered and changed more deliberately without worry of being fired.

Thus, if a conflict arises due to a fellow designer using a concept I refuse to associate myself with, I am more able to replace the idea altogether or discuss alternatives with the other designer in order to avoid my ethical boundaries.

Here are those limits that I find myself particularly averse to stepping over-

1. No pornographic games, in general.

2. No games that promote needless violence.

3. No games that, intentionally or otherwise, demean individuals due to race, gender, or other factors that people use to define themselves.

4. No microtransactions. I want to have a good relationship with my audience, and games with microtransactions tend to fare better in user reviews.

5. No graphic actions of a gruesome nature (such as rape, neck-slitting, child abduction)

I deem the above to be abhorrent and repulsive, and thus I shall not associate myself with any of them.

Thursday, March 16th- Today, I spent the vast majority of my time ensuring my game (thus far) could be beaten, even if the game glitches slightly. First, to make sure a doorway cannot be blocked by an enemy forever, I made a sort of “spell” that sends the enemy back to their spawn point (which is set the moment play begins). I also spent a good amount of time researching what Unreal Engine 4.19 adds (as I myself was downloading it simultaneously). After finishing the download, I made a copy of my current game for 4.19 and quickly ran through it several times to ensure the update did not destroy anything. Luckily, it didn’t seem to break anything, but there is a mildly annoying issue with my editor where it doesn’t automatically lock the mouse into the window when I start playing. I don’t really know how to fix it, but I will do some research.

Friday, March 17th- I got to work on adjusting some of my game mechanics to make the game more exciting. Primarily, I realized that the teleport feature makes a lot of tasks considerably more creative in how you can perform them. Teleporting to a location you set to dodge the first set of enemies is more than a possibility- it can work incredibly well! I had to adjust the moon puzzle to account for and include the teleportation feature, but I can firmly call it a puzzle now. Beyond this, I got some work done with preparing for next week. We have another Game Jam, and the theme is “Get Me Out Of Here!”
