I was commissioned by!! @dimension20stuff !!
SUUUUUUVIIIII!
Truth be told I thought drawing Ame was just a one time thing because.. I haven't drawn something that busy or detailed, something really to that extent, maybe the planets aligned.. or the herald Shalash possessed me and made me into a real lightweaver or maybe it's just hyperfixation.. who knows xD
so I'm soooo glad when @dimension20stuff commissioned me to draw Suvi this time!!!!
And, wellll I can't really leave Eursulon out... so I will also draw Eursulon soon!!
And add to that I can't finish any cast of characters I try to draw ... Like.... The whole of Skyward flight is still waiting for me I haven't even done a proper Jorgen and Kimmalyn illustration T------T YET

I wish we got to see more of Kimmalyn being a lesbian :( She's so cute and I bet she's hilarious with her girlfriend, but all we got was the tiniest crumb. Never met the girl or even gave her a name, just a little "she wanted to see her girlfriend again"-ish line, and that was it.
When she was asked in ReDawn if she had a boyfriend and she panicked and just said "Bless your stars" I immediately pegged her as gay, and a few books later we just get that tiny line that says she has a girlfriend, and move on. We get to see most of the other attached characters being attached, give me Kimmalyn's girlfriend and let's see how she gets on with Skyward flight! I want to see it!!! 😭😭😭

According to Psychology Today, friendships between men and between women have a noticeable difference. Female friendships tend to be more emotionally open and require more maintenance while male friendships tend to be based on activities and competition and be less intimate. The titular Skyward flight from Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward series is a mixed-gender ensemble and I will analyze their friendship dynamics.
For the most part, Skyward Flight’s subgroups follow the findings. Jorgen, Ned, and Arturo’s friendship is built on their piloting with Jorgen taking the position of the leade. Kimmalyn, FM, Hurl, and Spensa have a more sisterly kind of friendship. In chapter 26, the other three smuggled Spensa into their dorm room and provided her with food and companionship that she lacked.
What about cross-sex friendship? While the series does dabble in friends-to-lovers, it also prominently features cross-sex friendships. In Skyward, Rig is Spensa’s closest friend who helped her renovate her spaceship, M-Bot, and their relationship is more traditionally masculine. They never showed any jealousy when the other started pursuing a romantic relationship. Later, when FM said she thought Rig likes Spensa romantically, he responded with how terrifying she is in his eyes. The other prominent cross-sex friendship is between FM and Jorgen. While they have moments of tension due to their differing views, FM was there for Jorgen when he was dealing with the trauma of his parents’ deaths in the novella Evershore. This shows a more traditionally feminine kind of friendship. Like with the previous example, there was no implication of romantic feelings as both of them were in romantic relationships.
This shows the diversity of friendship in the series and how gender relation affects the dynamics. I wish for more YA works like this instead of ones overly focused on romantic relationships.

I’m reading skyward for my book club and I just got to the halfway point and kimmalyn and FM, even nedd and jorgen are so kind to spensa (note the use of kind and not nice) but spensa is literally such a dick to all of them like every chapter she’s being so mean and just thinks the worst of all of them

more defiant spoilers
i lied, i was not enough of an adult to make myself get six hours of sleep and i had to read the whole book in less than twelve hours, apparently
i am proud of myself for not crying, though - came real close when they were doing the final skyward role call, and i thought i might when gran-gran had her noble last stand, but i saw that one coming so i was able to prepare myself
love that we got more looks into brade's head, and how she really was just.... spensa without a support system (which did not make any of their interactions any less homoerotic) - i'm a little sad at how anticlimactic her end was, but, well, sometimes a fight really is just hitting the other guy with their shields down and that's it
it's nice to see the emotional throughline of the series, now that it can be taken as a whole - grief sucks, but it's easier with people who understand and support you, and also oppressed peoples should unionize and rebel and seize the means of production (especially when they are the means of production)
i actually really love how the taynix and the delvers come to their own agreement completely separate from the races of people we know and understand, because yeah, they are both intelligent species, they don't need a referee or benefactor standing over them to be part of their decision
there's some details about what chet and m-bot were up to that i think i misread, so i'll have to contemplate those and pay attention on a reread at some point, but for now i have finished it, and i am pleased with the ending
(also thank you sanderson for confirming kimmalyn has a girlfriend, always good to have it in the source material rather than just confirming it off the page)
now i guess i get to look out for skyward legacy at some point? i also want to get a physical copy of the three skyward flight novellas - i have electronic copies but i wanna have physical ones too
overall, a good book - it seemed to be in a holding pattern sometimes, with people going 'oh what could the solution to this be???' when, like, it felt like they'd said the solution three times already, but maybe i was filling in the gaps with my own inferences, and there were many moments that felt surprising and well-earned, so all good in the end

[Image description: digital illustration of a scene from Skyward of FM, a south asian girl with short bleached hair wearing a white blouse, Spensa, a black girl with hair pulled back in braids wearing a blue jumpsuit, and Kimmalyn, a black girl with loose curls and purple glasses wearing a yellow sweater sitting around a cafe table. Spensa is eating algae fries and talking to Kimmalyn; FM is talking to someone offscreen. FM and Kimmalyn have drinks and there’s an empty fries container on the table. End image description]
I really like Spensa and her friends

Skyward 3 cover
What are y’alls thoughts on the Skyward 3 cover? I love the name!
I wonder about that suit though. We haven't seen one like that. But when I was thinking about how to phrase this, the words “unfamiliar flight jacket/suit” came to my mind and I realised that that was how Brandy Sandy described Alanik’s clothing in Starsight. There is no evidence to support this, but this might point to my theory that Spensa ended up on planet ReDawn, home to Alanik’s species, the UrDail. If it’s the same jacket. I hope it is. Okay but wait. Skyward. Out. November 23. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. **screaming intensifies**
