I’ve been really bored recently so I decided to answer the age old question:

Who gave the BOM elders their ‘canon’ names?

Connor McKinley:

In the earlier years of the fandom, people tended to name him pretty randomly. The name Connor McKinley first appeared in the 2013 fic Sanctuary by deliarum, was picked up and repeated in the 2013 fic Settling for More by Krissielee and became standard around 2014.

Some other names for him: (apologies if this stresses you out because it stresses me out)

Ryan McKinley - Turn It Off by eirenical (chibi1723)

Sean McKinley- Elder McKinley Has Cats by goshilovearrows

Michael McKinley - A Wind of Change by Bearit

James McKinley - It Came To Pass by theblindtorpedo

Chris Thomas:

By the time the of the first Churchtarts fic in 2015, it was pretty standard to name them Chris and James, but there were a few variations before that. He was first called Christopher Thomas in the 2014 fic It Came to Pass by theblindtorpedo.

James Church:

Elder Church is a difficult one to research because so few fics tag him as a character, but for all I can tell his first appearance as ‘James’ Church is in Some Assembly Required by orphan_account

Sheldon Church - Accountabilibuddyable

Noah Church - Come Follow The Band by Sing_Out_Louise

This was really fun to research, and consider this post one big BOM fic rec, my favourites were probably Come Follow The Band because it’s a really colourful and unique concept, and Accountabilibuddyable because it’s a really interesting take on an episode of South Park.

Something I noticed was that years ago there were loads of fun, weird and wacky AUs, and I think we need to bring em back, don’t be afraid of writing a fic that’s really out there guys because I can guarantee that I’ll appreciate it :)
