The Best Years {Jenny & Simba}
Jenny had so much nervous energy. School started tomorrow.
This past month she had thought she was so ready, ready to jump in and experience college life. But now faced with it, she was homesick. Jenny wasn’t sleeping well in the dorms and she considered time and time again if she had made the right decision.
Which is why she found herself outside Berlioz and Simba’s house.
They were kind of her family, well Berlioz obviously was. But she didn’t know how welcomed she would be if she just kept popping up on their doorstep without warning.
Especially if they continue to open the door and didn’t expect to see her there.
“Hey! I was uh- I was missing my dogs so I thought I’d come and see if I could steal time with yours?”

Never Look Back {Simberlee}
Ashlee had something very important to ask Simba and Berlioz. For the past week she had been trying to build up enough confidence to do it. Tonight was the night.
At dinner.
She would.
She really really REALLY would.
Took until they were all snacking on dessert when Ashlee had built up the confidence.
“I’ve been thinking about something for awhile. A lot before the whole break up with the girls but even more so now.” Ashlee started taking a deep breath. “You guys have been my family more than anyone that I’ve grown up with and I was kind of wondering if it would be okay if I changed my last name to yours?”
Ashlee’s eyes dropped down at first before she looked back up and held her head high, she could do this, no matter what the answer was.
“It’s okay if it’s a no. I just wanted to ask.”

At a Moment’s Notice {The Knights}
Memories or no memories, when one Knight is in trouble, they all jump in to help and sometimes they include an honorary Knight.
@truitt-story @simba-bonfamille-lyons @eilonwy-notjustgirl  @cinderellaashbourne
Where it all Started: A Second Too Late {Princess House}
When: May 7th
Tiana Truitt
Hi, I know it’s really late but is anyone around? It’s kind of an emergency and I didn’t know who else to go to
Belle Acheron
Three young children means I am always up. What's wrong?
Eilonwy Llyr
I'm awake!
Tiana Truitt
I’m somewhere in Enchantra, Rora and I were out of town late and we got zapped back and then as soon as we got here all these vines started growing around her
Tiana Truitt started sharing location
I don’t know what’s going on but I’m worried about her I think she passed out and I can’t get through the vines they’re really thick
Belle Acheron
That's so odd. Did you disturb something?
Tiana Truitt
I don’t know I didn’t do anything we were just on the train
I feel like it’s gotta have something to do with her magic since she’s like a garden witch??
Belle Acheron
It could be -- but she's not controlling it is she?
Tiana Truitt
No I don’t think so??
I’m pretty sure she’s unconscious but I can’t check
Belle Acheron
I'll see what I can do from here. Maybe I'll be able to call the Great Prince? He usually responds...
Eilonwy Llyr
I'm on my way
Tiana Truitt
Thank you both so much
Eilonwy Llyr
I have all my swords with me here so I'll bring those along, and I'll see if I can recognize the feel of the magic
Belle Acheron
Be careful, both of you. We don't know what kind of magic this is.
Tiana Truitt
Yeah for sure I just don’t want to leave her alone out here
Simba Bonfamille-Lyons
What is going on my phone kept going off?
Eilonwy Llyr
Rora's in trouble in Enchantra
Tiana Truitt
Her magic is going crazy ever since we got zapped back at midnight
Simba Bonfamille-Lyons
Where are you Enchantra? What do you need?
Tiana Truitt
Sharing my location with you now
I don’t know honestly sorry ahhh I’m just freaking out
I thought maybe someone had seen something like this happen before
Simba Bonfamille-Lyons
Okay, well--take a few deep breaths. If this is her magic, I doubt it's going to hurt her, right?
Tiana Truitt
I hope not ugh I just don't know a lot about this stuff
Belle Acheron
That logic seems sound, but we don't know what kind of magic this is. Try not to panic. Simba, can you go assist her? Eilonwy is already on her way there. I am too far away, but if it doesn't get handled quickly, I can make my way there.
Simba Bonfamille-Lyons
Yeah, sure. Changing now. Er...should I bring my sword?
Tiana Truitt
Uhh sure why not!
Thanks y’all
~~~~
TIANA
When she heard footsteps approaching, Tiana whirled around, momentarily terrified at what magical mayhem might ensue next— and then relieved when she realized it was her fellow Knights, coming to the rescue after she had enlisted their help.
“Eilonwy! Simba! Oh, thank god— you see what I was talking about now?” Tiana gestured to the vines. “I can’t even see through them— those swords might actually come in handy, good thinking, Eilonwy.” She paused for a beat. “You think she’s okay in there?”
EILONWY
As soon as Eilonwy told Tiana she was on her way, she slipped all her enchanted jewelry on, slammed her feet into her shoes and was out the door. She could feel the way fear beat a steady beat in her chest, especially at the idea of going back into the forest, but determination was stronger. As she began to run down the street towards the forest, for the first time in months, Eilonwy released the lock she had placed on her own magic.
It felt like the world suddenly brightened around her, senses opening as she felt the caress of light particles she had been missing. Without thought, she gathered together moonlight and the light from street lamps and the light from car headlights until there was a glowing nimbus surrounding her as she raced into the clearing, following the directions Tiana had given.
When she arrived and saw the tangled ball of vines at the center, she skidded to a stop. Immediately, she shoved her hands upward, sending light to twine around tree branches and across the roof until it glittered overhead and lit up the entire clearing.
“Do you want a short sword or a longsword Tiana? I have both. I don’t know a lot about this type of magic, but she’s going to be ok. We’re going to make sure of it.”
SIMBA:
It took Simba a bit longer to get to Tiana’s location than he wanted. After all, he’d been in his jammies, settling in for a movie night with Berlioz when the group chat had blown up. “Duty calls,” he joked to Ber, even though both of them had felt the strain of that comment. Though, Simba would be lying if he said he didn’t feel cool, changing into his running clothes and grabbing his sword like some sort of superhero suiting up. Even if he was just in trainers and a pair of sweats instead of his underwear. (Should he put his underwear over his sweats? Ha.)
Anyway, once he was in the woods and on the path, he made quick work of things, even if running with a sword was cumbersome and annoying. How did knights used to do this?
Anyway, he made it to the clearing, nearly getting blinded as he tripped through the undergrowth. Not exactly the heroic entrance he had been envisioning. He rubbed his eyes, blinking at the gyrating, pulsing vines. He let out a low whistle and then put a hand on Tiana’s shoulder, giving it a squeeze.
“I’m sure if the magic is happening–she’s fine.” He didn’t actually know that but if she was, er, not fine, would her magic still be…working? Malfunctioning?
“Have you tried cutting into it yet? We should be careful. Magic plants don’t usually like getting cut up.”
TIANA
Tiana reached for the short sword (considering her own short stature, it was easier to wield), but hesitated when Simba commented on the behaviors of magical plants. If these vines were connected to Aurora’s magic, what if cutting into them would hurt her?
“Good– good point,” Tiana stammered, a little bit frantic. She looked from Simba to Eilonwy. “Eilonwy, from, uh, a sorcerer perspective– what do you think? I mean… I feel like we don’t have a lot of choice here, do we? We need to get to her and make sure she’s okay. But I don’t want to make things worse.”
EILONWY
As soon as Tiana mentioned that she would prefer the short sword, she pulled it out of the enchanted belt clip with a muttered word and handed it over. A swirl of her wrist and her elven sword appeared in her right hand from the bracelet it was attached to, leaving her armed and ready as Simba came into the clearing.
But at Tiana’s question, Eilonwy felt the familiar bubble of frustration that came with being too much of something and not enough at the same time. Maybe if she had trained over the last few months or had a more steady education, she would be able to speak on this more confidently.
When she opened her senses though, she could only really confirm what they all already knew. “The vines are all definitely magical. But it’s hard to know if it’s a cage or something protective or if it’s even really her magic that is causing this. But I think you’re right. I don’t think we have a lot of choice, especially not if she’s possibly unconscious inside.”
Thinking for a moment, she turned to the both of them. “Perhaps if I take the right side, Simba takes the left, it gives you a clear shot to the center so we can defend you from any of the vines Tiana?”
TIANA
Tiana hesitated. She was taking the lead here? Fighting had never been Tiana’s strong suit, especially not with swords. Hell, the last time she had trained with a sword, she had twisted an ankle!
But it was the only choice she had. Aurora was in there. This was their best chance of getting her out. Tiana couldn’t lose Aurora. She just couldn’t. “Alright, I’m going in,” Tiana said, looking to her left, to her right, and then gritting her teeth and attacking.
As Simba and Eilonwy predicted, the vines attacked back. Tiana yelped in surprise, but quickly fell into the familiar rhythm of fighting. The skills came back in muscle memory, and while Tiana wasn’t as quick or sharp as she wanted to be, she was holding her own. “Watch out!” she called, continuing to hack. “Are y’all okay over there?”
SIMBA:
Right. Looked like they were diving in!
Usually Simba was a fan of this, but at the moment–he was a little more hesitant. After all, none of them had a tonne of experience with this sort of thing. Tiana certainly didn’t. And Eilonwy was just a kid. But–Swynlake had chosen them for a reason and there was someone who needed rescuing. A friend who needed rescuing.
Ugh, when did he become a responsible adult who thought about things?
With that thought, Simba sprung forward, bringing his sword down on a thick vine. He felt it reverberate up his arms. It had been a long time since he’d actually swung his sword about. His shoulder twinged, but he just grit his teeth and jumped back as a vine snapped in his direction. He dove back into the fray, hacking and slashing indiscriminately, careful not to get too close to Tiana. He figured he wasn’t that good with a sword.
“Oh, yeah!” he called to Tiana. “Doing brilliant. Exactly how I wanted to spend my Saturday night.”
EILONWY:
Their initial mission as knights might have ended, but that had changed very little for Eilonwy. As soon as the casts had come off and her bones had healed, she had gone right back into her training sessions with Laurel and Edward until her old strength and skill returned. She had plenty of both. Even better, she now had a reason to use them.
With her magic lighting up the clearing, she couldn’t make a shield out of it the way she might otherwise have had, but that didn’t matter. Instead, she pulled a knife out of the ankle bracelet she was wearing, and with a weapon in each hand, she went to work.
She sliced through the first vine easily, swinging her off hand to block an attack before coming in low to slice through it again. One made it past her defenses, flicking her against the cheek and snapping her head back, but with a mildly feral snarl, she swung her sword and cut through two of the next vines, refusing to let herself be pushed back.
Spinning around, she sliced through a vine that had tried to creep around Tiana’s back to pull at her and grinned over, the light of battle in her eyes. “Never better.”
SIMBA:
Simba wasn’t sure how long he toiled. His vision became green and brown as the vines twisted and pulsed, very much alive. Sweat beaded at his brow and soaked the back of his shirt in the hot spring night air. He felt like he only took a few steps forward, not making much headway. For every vine he cut through, another replaced it. Like a many headed hydra.
Still, he pressed forward—thinking about Aurora. Thinking about Tiana. Wanting to make sure they were okay. He thought about the town too. He thought about several years ago when the whole town had come alive and tried to take over. He thought about dragons and knights and he saw Arthur’s face.
There was just the sound of hissing leaves across the forest floor, the periodic grunts of those around him, and the slash of swords. (They didn’t clang the way they did in movies, which he’d been disappointed to find out, but it didn’t make him feel any less cool. Okay, maybe a little less cool.)
They pressed forward inch by inch, cut by cut…
ELLA:
Ella had returned to Swynlake alone, the train having begun to move just moments after Tiana and Aurora had disappeared. It was like it had been waiting, unable to move until the magic had claimed them and then off it went again, carrying her back home, this time alone.
She had known something was wrong as soon as she had stepped off the train and onto the platform. She had said that she would manage, even if they weren’t able to meet her at the train station, but she had sort of expected them to be there. They must be at home, she told herself, checking her phone, looking for signs of anything amiss, but… nothing.
There were no lights on when she got back to the house. No signs of life at all, in fact, the doors all still locked up tight, every undisturbed, as it had been when they had left. Ella might’ve assumed that this was some sort of knights business, something she couldn’t help with, had it not been for the mice. Jacques and Gus had scurried up as high as they could, squeaking frantically, their little noses twitching. It was then that Ella noticed the rest of them – the birds at the window, puffing themselves up, tapping gently but urgently at the glass to get her attention.
The forest. Something was happening in the forest.
She wasn’t exactly prepared. The creatures of the forest did their best to lead her through it, but Ella didn’t have the same nimble feet as the hares, or the sharp eyes of the owls. It took her a while to catch up to the others, the knights that she didn’t even know she was heading towards until she saw the light emanating through the trees…
“Oh my god,” Ella gasped, looking at the tangle of vines, and at her friends, battling through them. She stepped forward slowly, calling out when she caught sight of Tiana. “Tiana? What’s going on?”
TIANA
Tiana recognized her housemate’s voice– she’d know it anywhere. She whipped around in surprise. “Ella?” Tiana gasped, but then another vine flew out at her and she quickly had to react, pivoting around to slice it off. Her first thought was– how did Ella know? And then her second thought was, right. Ella had a relationship with the forest. With the Prince.
“Stay back!” she warned, grateful for Ella’s presence, but also worried by it. The forest must be in trouble if they had sent Ella, she thought– and she didn’t want Ella getting hurt, but Tiana wondered if they might need her help soon.
She continued hacking at a weaker spot that Simba and Eilonwy had started to create. They needed an opening. They needed to get to Aurora. And whatever happened after that… well, they would worry about it when it happened. For now, Tiana had to focus on not twisting her ankle. Or worse.
EILONWY
The vines wouldn’t stop coming. Everytime she sliced one away, another thrust forward to take its place, and while she wasn’t tired yet, exhaustion was a risk they had to consider. Whatever was happening at the center of this was powerful and didn’t want to be interrupted.
Which was too damn bad in her opinion.
At the familiar voice of the woman she babysat for occasionally, Eilonwy glanced over for only the briefest of moments to confirm it was really her. Before the events of March, she might have wondered what the other woman could do there. After all, she didn’t have magic or skills with a sword, or any of the other things she had learned to rely on. But after her own experiences, she knew differently. If Ella was here, it was because she needed to be here.
Pinning a vine with her knife to the floor, she slashed through another before she reclaimed her weapon.
“Ella, Aurora’s inside there! We don’t know what’s going on and we don’t know if she’s ok. We’re making a path, but as soon as there’s an opening you gotta get in there and get her out. We’ll do what we can from here.”
As if in response to her words, she saw some of the vines start to creep out towards where Ella was standing, and Eilonwy quickly beat them back, working her way closer to Tiana and closer to whatever the center of this maelstrom was.
ELLA:
Aurora was in there – Ella felt her heart squeeze, and she took a step forward even as the vines crept towards her. She realised now that the forest creatures had left her, retreating back into the hides and their burrows now that she had joined the gathered knights. Ella knew what she had to do, even as Eilonwy said it. She had to go in there – she had to get Aurora out.
Herself and Tiana. They would get their friend out together.
Ella didn’t have any weapons to beat the vines back with, so all she could do was try to move strategically, to push forwards as the knights cleared a path for her. She ducked and dodged, weaving her way through the space they had carved until she could reach Tiana, setting a hand on her shoulder so that they couldn’t get separated.
“I’m with you,” Ella said, trying not to be afraid of whatever was in there. It didn’t matter, she told herself. They would get Aurora back. And the forest would do its best to keep her safe, as it always had; whatever magic this was, she could only hope that the forest had a way to reach through it if they needed it to. “Let’s go get her.”
TIANA
Tiana felt Ella’s hand on her shoulder, and a protective feeling surged through her. Ella and Aurora were more than her housemates, they were people she had shared some of her most chaotic and difficult moments with over the past few years. They were like family, at this point. And Tiana was not going to let anything happen to them. “Stay close to me,” Tiana told her, brandishing her sword defensively. She swiped at a few more vines as they stumbled into the thicket, and suddenly, they were inside encircled in winding, thorny vines and branches.
And then there was Aurora. Unconscious, but definitely still breathing. Still alive. “Oh, thank god, Rora,” Tiana breathed, kneeling down beside her friend. She shivered, terrified that something could go wrong at any minute, but still determined to get to her friend. And then, suddenly…
Coach To Coach || Crumba
@simba-bonfamille-lyons
Cruz was feeling pleasantly tired after the training session that had just finished up. She was cleaning up the cones and other equipment on the pitch they'd been using that day, going over everything she had seen while simultaneously thinking about what she was planning for the next time. Now that everyone had warmed up to one another and were more willing to admit that they wanted to be there it was getting easier!
And also that much harder! She cared about the students, wanted what was best for them and this program. It just seemed like she was the only one most of the time.
She was taking her time out there as opposed to what she normally did, which was use her magic to get everything together, to think. That's when she noticed the practice wrapping up on the next field over. Cruz walked over, nodding and waving to some of the girls as she passed them by.
"Mr. Simba!" she called, a large grin on her face, "I didn't know you were coaching here! Aren't you with the weans at the primary school these days?"
Slumber Party || Tiny Dancers
Slumber was over, but holiday break was not.
And Nemo still had celebrating to do! Kind of. He wasn’t doing presents with most of his friends this year due to The Circumstances (see: Nemo’s embarrassing meltdown), but he’d felt so awful about how things had gone with Ashlee-- injuring himself and not being able to help her with her routines the rest of the semester-- that he’d gotten her just a small thing. It had been a while since they’d seen each other too. To be honest, Nemo had been avoiding her... it just hurt too much to see Ashlee while he was in pain, unable to do the thing they both loved.
But technically, Nemo could dance now. His back had healed, mostly. And things were hopefully going to be a little better from here on.
So he was making up for being the worst pas de deux partner ever.
“Hey! Simba let me in,” said Nemo as he knocked on Ashlee’s door, peeking in.
A Very Merry Parent Trap /./ [Simber + Opalou]
@ber-bonfamille-lyons, @lou-bonfightme
"I’ll get the door!” Simba announced to no one in particular, considering Berlioz was the only other one home. Ashlee was out with friends, which was why they’d chosen this night in particular to have everyone over. Didn’t want to stress her out when this (inevitably - Berlioz’s negativity) potentially blew up.
Simba didn’t think it was going to. It was going to go well! He was determined for it to. Because the holidays were about family (according to Ber) and this was the perfect opportunity to get everyone together and fix everything (according to the Hallmark movies Simba had been binging.)
“Hey!” Simba beamed as he opened the door. “Woah,” he blurted a second later, unable to help himself. He had figured that it’d be weird to see her, but that didn’t even come close. She looked so much like Belle had at her age it was a little uncanny. Kind of cool. Simba was jealous. He wished he had a daughter that had come back in time to say hi to him.
“Hi Oncle Simba!” Opal chirped.
Well, he supposed he would take a niece.
 Immediately, Opal sank down to pet the dogs, rubbing all of them on the head. “Aw, hey old man!” she said to Bowie, kissing him on the nose.
“Hey,” Simba said, shaking Lou’s hand as he came through the door. “You can put the presents under the tree.”
“Is there one for me?” Opal asked, popping up and gliding towards Simba. She popped up on her toes for a hug, which Simba obliged, still kind of feeling some weird sense of deja vu.
“Course there is one for you, sorry if it’s not great--short notice and all that.”
“I’m sure it’s great, where is Oncle Berlioz?”
“In the kitchen.”
“Great.” Opal headed in that direction without having to be told where it was.
Fun House || Simber
Ah, that time of year again, eh? Carnival week.
But it was different. For the past five years, he’d been used to sneaking away from uni, ignoring homework, and falling into fall. He was just one of many uni students then, blending in with the crowd-- well, as much as he could on Simba’s arm, which wasn’t all that much, sure. But now--
Now, he looked out at the grounds and recognized not his fellow peers but...
Students. His students.
Jesus christ, maybe this is why Simba felt so old all the time.
Yeah, this was gonna be a different carnival experience. Because they needed to be smart about this. Ber was gonna have to dodge as many of his students as he could. Fuck, should’ve worn a hat.
“Oi, what do you think-- the maze or the mirror house?” he said, yanking Simba away from the funnel cake (there were too many kids there. Swarming.)
Surprise! {Ber & Jenny}
Jenny was in Swynlake!
A whole two weeks earlier than the school year started BUT there was a reason. One she wanted to get settled and explore. Two she wanted to get a job. Three. She wanted to spend time with Berlioz while she wasn’t busy with School. Four. She wanted to be the first one to move in before her roommate so she could get the best side.
All of this meant that Jenny was in Swynlake before she told Berlioz she would be.
She checked into a hotel since she wasn’t going to ask him to put her up and then ventured to the house and confidently knocking on the door bouncing on her feet as she waited for him or someone to answer.
It’d be better if it was him. Simba or the girl would just mean Jenny had to play nice.
Oh-there was the door.
“Berlioz! Hi! I’m early!”
One Look Back {Simberlee}
Ashlee says goodbye to Simba & Berlioz.
Date: A couple days after the showcase.
@simba-bonfamille-lyons @ber-bonfamille-lyons
Ashlee
This was it, it.
As hard as saying good to Nemo was, saying goodbye to Berlioz and Simba felt even harder, even bigger. It didn’t matter that she knew she could come back anytime. She wanted to be successful, she wanted to be someone they could brag about.
And that meant entering this new chapter with her head held as high as possible and with a fighting attitude.
Still with the tracks behind them and the clock counting down until she would step on that train, she was tempted to run away. To run back to her emptyish room and hide there.
But she wouldn’t because she had the proper skills in place to handle anything thrown at her.
“If you cry I’m going to cry. So no one is allowed to cry.” Ashlee warned.
BERLIOZ:
“Well good thing for you is I’m not much of a cryer,” joked Berlioz.
A bit of a lie, really. Berlioz definitely cried plenty, especially when it came to stress and anxiety. But he wasn’t stressed and he wasn’t anxious. He was happy for Ashlee, eh? He was even envious of her, because here she was, getting out of Swynlake, going to her dream job in a big city – the exact thing that Berlioz wanted for himself.
How could he cry with all that? He wanted to cheer for her. So Ashlee got a smile, soft and warm and proud all at once.
“Maybe can’t say the same for this one though…” Berlioz said, glancing at Simba.
SIMBA:
Simba was already crying, thank you.
He was being quiet about it, but he’d been crying behind his sunglasses on the way to the train station. There was something wrong about that. It shouldn’t be a nice, sunny day on the day that Ashlee was leaving. It should be a horrible, miserable day. Grey and gloomy.
Listen--Simba was happy for Ashlee too, but he wasn’t good at saying goodbye. He could be proud of her. And he was. (She’d come so far from the sad, scared kid that Simba and Berlioz had inherited.) He could be excited for her. And he was. But, he would also miss her. And he was already worried about her.
And he wasn’t good at saying goodbye.
So, Simba glanced away--blinked and sniffled. He wasn’t really crying. Not proper tears. But they shined in his eyes (and one or two had definitely slipped out on the drive here). He looked back at them both.
“What? I’m not crying. It’s fine. It’s fine. You’re gonna be fine.” Simba couldn’t really tell if he was saying that for her or for him.
Ashlee
Yeah, Ashlee wasn’t surprised about Simba crying. That was a given but she didn’t want to tear up again. This was hard enough already saying goodbye to Nemo. She wasn’t sure how she was supposed to say bye to Simba or Berlioz too.
Especially with that smile on Berlioz’s face.
It made her want to get all emotional. To have made someone that proud. It was a feeling she would never forget.
“Are you going to be fine though?” Ashlee questioned a raised eyebrow at Simba and then to Berlioz although her eyes were already starting to tear up too.
BERLIOZ:
Berlioz smiled softly at Simba, stepping closer to his husband and putting his hand on the back of his neck. He gave it a familiar squeeze. He’d done this a hundred times before. Well, maybe closer to a thousand at this point. It was the only thing he could really do. Nothing was gonna make this easier after all. “He will. We will,” Berlioz added. He glanced back at Ashlee, and that soft smile, somehow, got even softer. He still wasn’t going to cry– he couldn’t do that. But for a moment the sun caught his warm brown eyes and they shined a bit.
“We will miss you though,” he said honestly. “We’ll miss you a lot.”
SIMBA:
Between Ber’s comforting squeeze and his words, Simba’s eyes started tearing up again. He couldn’t help himself. He’d always been a crier. Ever since he was a little kid. He cried when he had to leave the turtles alone at the lake even though he desperately wanted to play with them, and he cried after eating a bowl full of fresh strawberries because they were just so good, and he cried when his dad tickled him, screeching with laughter. His mum used to say his emotions were bigger than any she’d ever known.
It was embarrassing, sometimes, but for the most part--Simba had always appreciated it. He couldn’t imagine being any other way.
He wasn’t embarrassed now. And, though he’d feel a little bit bad making Ashlee cry or think he was sad (well, he was sad, but he wasn’t all sad), he knew this was just…how he expressed himself when his heart felt too big for his chest.
“Yeah,” Simba said, voice cracking a bit. He cleared his throat. “But don’t worry about us. Just--go and be amazing. ‘Cause you will be. Just don’t forget us little guys when you’re a famous ballerina.”
Ashlee
“As if.” Ashlee stated very sternly, very seriously, she would never forget them, and just like that a couple tears were already starting to fall down but she was okay with it. Where once ago she would turn away or wipe them away so no one saw her cry she owned those tears.
This was going to be a hard goodbye- a hard see you later - despite it being for bigger and better things.
“You guys know you’re one of the best things that happened to me right? I’m super thankful for everything you did, for all the chances you took on me. Being the best guardian figures while being the best older brother vibes.” Ashlee mused looking at Berlioz for a moment. “And the best Dad I’ve have had.” Ashlee stated simply moving to look at Simba. Sure she didn’t say it often, in fact she may have said it less then a handful of times but if she had to call anyone her Dad it would be Simba. “I love you guys a lot. Okay? And you know me- I hate being sappy like this so take it or leave it. This is what you’re getting.” She sniffled slightly at it.
BERLIOZ:
Older brother. Honestly – the compliment meant more than he could say. He had always thought he was a shit older brother, really. He and Marie squabbled or struggled through awkward silences. He never really knew how to talk to her, and though things were getting better between them now, there were still so many times he felt like a stranger to her, like the both of them were roleplaying what it was like to be related. So he felt bad about that. Marie deserved better.
And when Jenny came into his life… well, same thing, really. He had been so bloody worried that he wouldn’t know how to talk to her and that he’d let her down. She hadn’t asked for him. He hadn’t asked for her. Maybe he was just kind of shitty at it?
But things had been better with Jenny. And there were probably loads of reasons for that, but one of them was definitely Ashlee, who had taught him more about being quiet, but present– supportive and understanding, even of each other’s differences.
So he was grateful to her too. So grateful he couldn’t put it to words, he really couldn’t.
“I’ll take it. Thanks,” he told her quietly. “Just know– you always got family with us.”
It wasn’t much, but he meant it with his whole heart.
SIMBA:When Simba and Berlioz had decided to adopt Ashlee, it hadn’t even been a choice, really. It had been the right thing to do. It had been the only thing to do. But that didn’t mean it hadn’t changed Simba too. With Kiara, she’d always been his in a way. They’d known each other nearly their whole lives. Kiara coming back into his life was like remembering a piece of his heart that had been lost between couch cushions, just waiting to be rediscovered.
Ashlee was different.
Ashlee was brand new. She taught Simba patience and how to be there for someone without knowing them first. And she’d taught him resilience. And even if she hadn’t taught him anything at all: he’d gotten to watch her bloom. That was the most amazing part.
The Ashlee that stood before him right now, on her way to London and her dreams, was an entirely different girl than the one who they’d taken home from the courthouse that day. She’d gained a voice and confidence. She stood taller. She laughed more.
That was the greatest gift. Her laugh and her smile--and her love.
Simba didn’t care if she ever called him dad. He was just happy that they’d found each other. That they’d all found each other.
Words, to him, weren’t enough to express this. Instead, he stepped forward and leaned down to wrap Ashlee up in a tight hug, tears spilling over as he squeezed his eyes shut.
“I’m so proud of you,” he told her, holding her close. “We love you too.”
Ashlee
A bell rang behind them, a single she needed to get on the train sooner than later even though for a moment she was tempted to just not. This is where she felt the happiest, the safest, despite all the challenges.
But she hadn’t been raised to hide from a challenge, and she knew Simba and Berlioz wanted this for her, Nemo wanted this for her.
She would excel, she would grow and she would have a great future, with a family cheering her on. Blood or not. This was her family.
Pulling them in for one more hug, Ashlee squeezed them as tightly as she could (Without hurting anyone).
With one final nod, one to say she got this, to say she knew they had her back, to say everything would be okay. Ashlee grabbed her last back and headed onto the train.
To bigger and better things and when she looked back, it was only with fond memories and smiles and a lot of love.
Best Foot For Wards || Limba
Lilith Clawthorne had only just set the Nightshade Cottage into the precise way she wanted it to be. The exterior still read as somewhat derelict with the dried up vines creeping up the stone. Just as Lilith liked it. Inside it was warmer, dark walls kept it feeling calm yet cozy. Shelves were full of her belongings, from books to silver and bronze knick knacks. Eclectic frames adorned the walls and everything felt old, antique. Not a place for children. Just as Lilith liked it.
The witch snapped and a fire sprang forth in the hearth, licking the air and radiating an orange glow. She had just started her morning routine; dressing, fire, coffee.
Then just above the crackle of the fire, a knocking. Lilith’s eyes trailed from the colored glass mug in her hands to the front door. Peculiar. In her short time here, no one bothered her on the weekends, let alone at her home. Her dress billowed behind her as she swept across the den to answer the knocking.
When she revealed just who it was, Lilith felt a bit of deja vu. It was as if she’d seen that face before. Kind dark eyes, an inviting smile. Lilith’s face remained stern and skeptical when she asked, “Hello?”
Forgive or Forget || Sian
Dian had thought most of his indiscretions had flown under the radar since he had turned last year. A small number of people outside of his brothers were aware of his affliction, but even a small number gave Dian a sense of unease. Especially with such a high profile snack. Delores and Isa knew. He had already had a rather confusing conversation with Isabela about it.
She seemed mad at him, which he understood, but he couldn’t grasp which part she seemed to admonish more. Princess or friend? Sex or blood? His transgressions with Elena ended before he felt comfortable around humans without wanting to eat them, so he thought the training wheels might have been appreciated. Clearly not. He worked with many women, but he never claimed to understand them.
His current priority is checking in with Simba. Once upon a time, the two of them got on splendidly. Then a bunch of psychotic vampires threw a wrench in that. Well, they threw Dian down a flight of stairs. He would admit, waking up and trying to eat your friend might put a damper on the relationship.
But ever since then, Dian had been nervous to face Simba. What would he even say? He wasn’t sure, but he was at the Bonfamille-Lyons residence now in the middle of the day. He took an unnecessary breath in and knocked.
