He stands there, quietly. Holding the knife. And he laughs. And he laughs. And he laughs. And laughs. And laughs.

He'd seem almost happy, his eyes closed as he laughs, if his laughter didn't devolve into sobbing. It hurts to hear. It hurts to see. After a minute, he stops, simply smiling. The spark in his eyes is gone, nothing at this point, as he has a small smile and a tilted head.

It's funny how all I do, ends up hurting everyone and myself. Ehehh..

His smile softens, seeming sad now. The smile of someone who knows his time is up.

I'm sor-

He's cut off by the a grating, screeching sound. It sounds like chalk against a chalkboard, a fork against a plate, some sort of unhuman scream as half of him disappears in a blink, a mess of eyes and glitches followed by some sort indescribable of flesh-tearing sound. The other half of him disappears less than a second after his first has is gone, eyes taking up the room, glitched screams that might not even be his.

On the Subject of TAOCC Angst

Hiya hiya hello, it’s me, Elsie lol. Time to throw in my two cents, maybe make a THIRD FREAKING POLL (so sorry q.q), and present us with some options.

WE NEED TO TAKE THIS SLOW AND THINK LOGICALLY BEFORE MAKING ANY MAJOR DECISIONS. THIS IS NOT OUR FINAL DECISION, THIS IS A MASTERPOST AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT PEOPLE WANT.

Let’s start with being very blunt. TAOCC is a bit of a directionless mess right now. We’ve got tons of characters, which isn’t a bad thing on its own! But unfortunately a lot of these characters have the same mod (hi hello i’m kind of part of the problem :’D). This means that we have a Simarillion’s worth of lore and not much of an idea of how to move anywhere with it. If anyone joins or returns after hiatus, they’ve missed a ton and have to figure it all out again from scratch, especially because we do not have ANY form of filing system for any of this. Too many characters, too many events, no organization, and a borderline insane amount of angst.

So, we have a few options of how to move forward here.

Autumn’s Solution/reset

Reset. All of it. Start with the characters and nothing else.

Pros: No more angst! And we get to have all that bonding all over again.

Cons: This doesn’t factor in backstories, and how backstories are often angsty and will instigate angst pretty much no matter what. Angst kind of has to exist in-universe forum the very nature of TADC itself, and just starting from scratch won’t change that.

2. “Move forward”

Don’t change the past, but do change the future. Make things slow down, but not because of any major event. Just have things Calm. Down.

Pros: less angst!

Cons: still too many characters. And still a lot of pre-established lore and no way to file it.

3. Extinction.

Kill off/incapacitate/retire half the characters. Then have the remainder unite over that and fix stuff.

Pros: less characters, possible less angst

Cons: extreme angst in the process.

4. Abandonment/new game/Lann’s solution

Restart with new characters. Or just make a new rp thing entirely. Maybe make a filing system this time around lol.

pros: less characters, less angst maybe.

cons: pretty much anything getting rid of all of our work over the last few months is kinda…wasteful and extreme, in my opinion.

5. “Software update”

A less extreme version of the reset, where we have a software update installed. Keep the old lore/characters, but dampen the angst for later. Give the characters some new coats of paint maybe, and figure out which characters to focus on for the near future.

pros: less angst, doesn’t break the lore or delete our hard work

cons: we still have to figure out what the heck to do with these characters and make a deliberate effort not to have as much angst

6. Other/anyone else’s solutions

WOAH HEY HI. UPDATE: NO DECISIONS ARE BEING MADE AT THIS TIME!

TAOCC is not going to be evaporated anytime soon. It's okay. We're collecting our thoughts, and we are going to address people's concerns.

People! Stuff is going on!

I'll just throw in my two cents since that's what a lot of ppl are doing: I only have the one (main) oc: Nuffle. He's my little guy, and I have a few plans for him that mostly depend on other's interactions with him. The comics are only his backstory, which won't change with a system reboot/soft reset/whichever gets decided. Before and After are mostly context for how he ended up in the circus. Again is the circus.

I wouldn't be opposed to a reboot, but I would suggest we exercise caution, as this is a pretty huge decision to make. Since there are a lot of ocs, it might be good to cut down on just... the number of characters you use? Have a main circus member and a possible side character, but not more than those?

And in terms of a reboot itself, that's erasing character growth which would be... something... Prime example: Bob. I can't speak for Bob's mod, but to revert back to a ghost seems like a lot...

SO! I propose a soft reset: keep core character arcs (physical changes, personality changes, etc.) and keep 1-2 main ocs. It would cut down on character volume and your favorite arcs would be preserved. Though that's just my opinion. THE ELSIE MOTH’S GUIDE TO TAOCC

Aka: “oh gosh here we go”

copy-pasted because I’m lazy ;-;

TAOCC is, in a nutshell, like 10?ish mods (last I counted) making up a random TADC fic that started as a few askblogs and turned into a multiverse with lore, fourth wall breaks, and a heavily expanded universe. Here’s the lore basics:

TAOCC seemingly takes place over the span of October until now, in between episodes one and two. It will most likely have an lore update after 2 comes out. TADC exists within a server run and managed (and seemingly abandoned) by the company of C&A, which, depending on the character, is either:

A well-respected game development studio (People with Direction)

A shady company that will take anyone as test subjects (Hammer Anon)

A faceless set of developers with unknown motives (Sun and Gangle)

A respectable but unknown corporation that uses odd means to get people to test their hardware (Dunite I think?)

It’s most likely some combination of…all of the above. Generally, C&A is elusive and will not help the characters or get involved past backstory, with the exception of Lonn and Lattia, who are human developers who just…found this computer after a long story that I won’t get into lol.

Currently, the digital worlds are as follows:

TADC (run by Sun and Caine (on paper))

Dusk’s domain (run by Dusk)

The Bewitched Digital Kingdom (run by Hexe)

The Void (run by nobody, glues the various worlds together)

The Loch and It’s Surrounding Areas (unknown administrator, little is known about it in general except that there are dragons)

The Skies/The Heavens (similar to the void)

Now for the OOC stuff!

The Mods:

The mods are myriad and have multiple, wildly different approaches to making this setup work. Each will have different rules and guidelines on how they interact and what kind of content there is, which includes guidelines on suggestive, violent, or ridiculous content. Some mods write this thing like a book, trying to adhere to the standards of actual literature, while some are just here to have a good time and do whatever. Sometimes this even varies from character to character! Similar mods tend to form groups, and you shouldn’t feel pressured to interact with every single mod all the time. Mods ages range from 13-17, usually. Nobody younger than 13, obviously.

The canon characters:

The canons are dead.

…Okay that’s a joke and an exaggeration. Due to circumstances of various kinds, most of the canon character askblogs are deleted, inactive, etc. Below are their URLs and short explanations.

@/zooooble - Mod Rat, after a lot of problems caused by random anons (the canon askblogs were typical askblogs at first, before the extended universe) and others, left the fandom entirely. Mod rat was also Kinger’s mod.

@blue-tooth Moon mod was locked out of their acct and has not returned.

@/shiningwiththesunshelp - Mod Galaxy’s attempt to bring back moon as a character

@/team-buttonblossom - Viewer’s attempt to bring back Pomni and Ragatha, canonicity is currently being debated/is undecided as far as I know

@/cainetheringmaster - barely active, uninvolved in “anon lore”/Taocc proper

The canons weren’t and won’t be really involved in Taocc, besides sun. Taocc doesn’t really have “main characters” as much as it has “overarching plots that make characters relevant”/“known characters”/“main mods kinda ish”

Mods you should probably know:

@/silhouette-anon - called Soup Mod, semi-active, gnagle mod, runs the Silhouette plotline with Xeya

@/feiar - Nymn mod, active, runs the pirate plotline

@/iciatheguardess - called Star mod, Icia Mod, active, runs the Bewitched Digital Kingdom plotline with Feiar.

@the-moth-from-elsewhere - MEEEEEEEE! Called Elsie, Dusk mod, active, runs Dusk’s domain and has the most fleshed out characters

@/theautumnalcat - called Autumn but also has a sona character named Autumn, Pyxel mod, active, no specific plotline, started Taocc as a whole!

@/kumo-taoc - called mod Kumo, active, local music person, Kumo mod, will cause problems on purpose

Kumo (@kumo-taoc): a dude with a very fluffy cloud sweater and a cyan/blue jester hat and likes to prank people.

Stitch (@stitch-taocc): a sandbag man who somehow got a girlfriend despite being a pathetic boyfail (and has a biting problem).

Belle (@belle-taocc): a lady made out of all sorts of various poisons and toxic goo. She seems really creepy at first, trying to lure people into her house and all, but she really just wants friends.

Static: a girl who spawned in the circus weird and it turned all of the textures on her sprite into tv static (imagine a silhouette of a girl but instead of the silhouette being black, it's tv static). She lives by the edge of the grounds (where the grounds end and the void begins).

Alex (@alex-taocc): an performer/jester who does all kinds of tricks to entertain an audience, such as knife juggling and balancing on a beach ball. She hopes to one day be as popular as starro.
