Stupid O'Clock ft Els and Karlach

A teeny little sidescene from

"It's hopeless." Els sighed, her face turned to the glittering stars above. The sand beneath her crunched as she turned her head, looking at Karlach with a childish frown. "Absolutely hopeless."

"Nah, mate, you're just too subtle." Karlach's hands were cushioning her head. The fire in her chest flared and dimmed in time with her breathing. "You need to just grab that wizard by the collar and say, 'Gale, I beseech thee to ravish me in a gentlemanly fashion, posthaste, lest I perish of unrequited lust'. I don't speak Wizard, but I reckon that'd do it."

Els snorted, turning back to the stars. The two of them had been- rightfully- kicked out of camp because it was one of those nights. The kind of night when neither of them could sleep, and ended up following increasingly ridiculous tangents until their giggling woke everyone else up. Apparently nobody wanted to join in on their conversation about what animal it'd be worst to be polymorphed into, or if they'd rather have five arms or five legs. "He doesn't talk like that."

Silence hung between them.

"Alright, yes, he does talk a bit like that sometimes, but way less than he used to. Besides, I like it. I wouldn't be a bard if I didn't like words, and he knows a lot of 'em."

Karlach groaned. "Don't start getting all mushy again, Els, else I'll tell him."

"Noooooooo-" Els kicked her feet in parody of a tantrum, shaking her head from side to side. She'd have plenty of sand in her hair tomorrow. "You'd make it seem like I just want to have a go on his magic staff and scare him off- and then where would I be? Tadpole in my head and only mage hand for comfort."

Karlach rolled her eyes. "You're a sucker for punishment, Woodsley. Look around, mate, I reckon you could have Astarion or Wyll in your bedroll within five minutes if you wanted. Both, even. And yet you're making puppy-eyes at the most oblivious man in Faerûn."

Els snickered. "You're just as bad. Ooh, Shadowheart, you're so mysterious and cool, please let me carry your tent for you-"

Karlach's engine flared bright, setting Els into a fit of contageous laughter. It had them both howling in moments. From camp, Lae'Zel shouted something, but she was too far away to hear properly.

Eventually their mirth faded, leaving the two of them breathless on the beach.

Quiet reigned again- the soft lapping of the water, the shushing of the wind in the reeds. It was peaceful.

"Karlach?"

"Yes, Els?"

The half-elf reached out, setting her hand beside Karlach. The tiefling did the same- their hands side-by-side, close enough to sense each other but not enough to burn. "I promise that if we survive the goblins, I'll tell him properly."

"Good. Els, you're my friend and I love you, but if I have to hear much more sighing over Gale of Waterdeep I will strangle you in your sleep and put you out of your misery."

A pretty mess. There are days when my office looks like this. Today is not one of those days ➡️ Today my office looks like a pressing and cutting table full of paperwork and planning and creating in a different way. The first pic was taken by @alexaligns at a Final Fitting Photoshoot for a Custom Dress I was so honored to create this summer. There’s so much planning and preparation that happens before I even get to the designing part of a gown, let alone that glorious final shoot! The sunny glow of a sunflower field bathing a side scene of supplies feels very much like an image worthy of sharing on a rainy fall day. But it is these rainy days that allow me to dream of future photo shoots, future custom creations, future clients, and future experiences steeped in connection and beauty and expression and understanding. A pretty mess is more enjoyable to the eye, but that pile of plans holds more beauty than any one project. I am so grateful for all of the beautiful clients, fabulous projects, inspired collections and enriching events Themis and Thread has been a part of over the past EIGHT years! i use camp nano as a way to keep in the practice of writing, so i’ve hit my monthly goal of 10K even though that’s not a full novel!

have some actually original story for once instead of fanfiction:

But instantly she turns on him--and like a bad sci-fi movie, her face transforms into something animal and monstrous, eyes bugging out of her head. “Get out! What the fuck are you doing here?!”

gotta love the ‘?!’ punctuation mark; it makes me feel like a facebook meme but i don’t know what else gets across the same amount of ‘this is a question but it’s a very loud question’
