This past week has been incredibly difficult and entirely unexpected. Chad and I took our snake Apollo, and our cat CJ to the vet because we were worried about their condition and appetite, completely unrelated to each other. We were faced with Apollo's diagnosis rather quickly and knew that we wouldn't have much longer with him. With CJ, we thought he could get better with meds and fluids and food, but he declined quickly. We had to make the tragic but ultimately merciful decision to help them cross the rainbow bridge today. Our lives are going to be so different without these two. Our days revolved around our pets and their routines. But our lives are also better for having them at all. They will be desperately missed! When it's already so sad to experience this with 1 pet...having to go through this with 2 (out of 3) pets at the same time has been so tragic. Kirby, my Kirby-irby-irbs, my bunny thumpers, my Fumps, is under the weather. She twice tested negative for Panleukopenia, she isn't running a fever, and there is no vomiting or diarrhea - though there is definitely nausea and fatigue. We're providing supportive care (antibiotics, anti-nausea meds, b-12 vitamins, and subcutaneous fluids and tube-feeding liquid purees), but it's a horrible game of Wait and See while we track symptoms and look for the slightest change in either direction. She began showing symptoms yesterday morning. We're 36 hours into care with no change, though, perhaps heartbreakingly, this week is the first time we've been able to feel her purr; and when we stroke her, she happy-flexes her toe beans. Did I mention Tails just crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Thursday? Oh, and he was her brother. But while he had a full tail, Kirby has just a nub - she is a Rumpy Riser Manx. Sorry for the recent absence - it’s harder keeping two instagrams than I thought! We also had a big scare in the family - my dear older brother Eddie was rushed to the emergency vet late Thursday evening, and we need a little help. He presented with possible symptoms of toxicity, but came out as having a “cardiac event” - all they could say was that his heart was enlarged in xrays, and he had to be on oxygen for a day. This came to a total of $1,056, and for a follow up at a cardiologist a presumptive quote was given of $900. I know it’s asking a lot, but I have only I would say about $500 of this covered covered cash- wise. If you are willing/ able to help, anything will be greatly appreciated.
