The old days
Back in the old days of Hashiriya everyone had something to prove. When you joined the server no one knew who you were, and so if you wanted people to recognize who you were, you had to push yourself and show them. When I joined the world of Hashiriya it was a simple one. People raced, people did time attacks, and they had a community. All I had was my little EK9 and I wanted to prove to these people I could be the best. I began doing time attacks early on, and very quickly did I find people began to doubt my skills. I was called a cheater early on, but I posted my runs and this quickly dissolved the accusations. These accusations were from a particular person, in a certain team that would eventually become my home. But for the time being I was a solo player, with a handful of friends.

Kazunari Takao X Shintaro Midorima as genderbent Snow White & the prince: Winner of Kinktober Round 5 (final round)
Finally, the shipping round is here! Sorry that it took so long, you can blame the landlord for that one.
Tumblr media
Shintaro has fallen onto the ground in disbelief, standing upright in a beautiful coffin, is his beloved Snow Kazunari. The 4 dwarves that took care of her, are mourning his loss at his side. Young dwarf Tiberius lost a sister already, so he nervously gets closer to the grieving prince as he's filled to the brim with empathy. Christopher, his concerned boyfriend watches Tiberius carefully. The dwarf Haruka is simply too overcome with emotion to do or say anything, as his boyfriend Makoto bawls at his side. note: I flipped Snow White's dress color palette, so everyone could be wearing a warm color to fit Shutoko's uniform aesthetic. Hence why the dwarves themselves are all wearing orange and Midorima a lighter brown then I originally had envisioned. With the Snow White theme, I obviously had to make the ships coming in 2nd and 3rd place as the dwarves. I am most definitely satisfied with this one, and my mom who happened to stumble upon it this morning after I finished, actually gave me praise. Considering she's very critical of my work and seldomly does so, makes me happy. She does not know this is MidoTaka fanart though LOL PS: To those who remember me posting about an hentai doujinshi of MidoTaka being forced to play Snow White and the prince in a Shutoku theater production, YES I WILL ADMIT I AM GUILTY AS CHARGED! After having seen Takao in the Snow White dress, I just had to make a version where he was wearing a male version of the outfit because I adore historical men's fashion, it's superior to how men dress now.

Media Reflection
For my reflection on how the media portrayed Japan vs how it really was, I'd like to talk about Kabukicho in Shinjuku Tokyo, and Dotonbori, Osaka first. Both of these locations are vibrant and active areas famous for nightlife and great food. However, what some may not know is that these are the areas in which the hit video game Yakuza 0 takes place. Following two separate men and their journey to legendary status in the underground criminal world, Yakuza 0 was an interesting game with plenty to offer in terms of insight into the fun of Japan. Half of the game follows Kazuma Kiryu, a young yakuza in a place called Kamurocho in Tokyo. Can you guess where it's based off of? Kabukicho! The game bases itself closely on the real thing, minus the gangs and crime, but in the 80s. The red neon torii gate makes its appearance, batting cages, plenty of lights, bars, taxis, train stations, and even slot car racing places. It really felt surreal coming here and experiencing all these things in real life. Of course, as most video games are, there are dramatizations of things that aren't real occurrences, but the setting of the game really helps get the feeling of its real-life counterpart across. Dotonbori was the same way. In the game, Sotenbori is the place where Goro Majima, works as a cabaret club manager to pay his debts to the yakuza. The river, Don Quitote, takoyaki stands, the whole deal was in the game and in Dotonbori. Osaka was more believable in terms of the videogame, as it's not crazy to see uncommon occurrences or people. Yakuza 0 sold to me a very illustrious and embellished image of Japan, yet, the real thing didn't feel like such a far shot from it either. It brings me around to a bigger thought about media and its portrayal of real life, especially considering a place like Japan, whose main power is derived from its influence in media. Many times people will see Japan in a movie, game, social media, or picture, a build an idea of what Japan is in their mind. The Japanese are guilty of this too. Ever heard of Paris Syndrome? It's a very serious form of culture shock when Japanese people visit Paris and it is much dirtier and mundane than they had expected. Being in Japan so much, I've seen their French cafes and boutiques and it's no surprise that they still think France is in its romance era still. In a world more interconnected than ever with technology, it seems our connection to reality may even be weaker as our media evolves.
One thing I really wanted to note was the Shutoko Expressway in Tokyo. Shutoko, more commonly called Shuto Expressway, is a series of interconnected highway roads that reach many parts of Tokyo. I play a video game called Asseto Corsa, a hyper-realistic racing simulator that supports modding, or user-created content. A group of Corsa players got together to make the Shutoko Revival Project (SRP), to bring Japan and it's car culture to real life. Complete with traffic, realistic real-time weather, and full car functionality down to the windshield wipers, I've driven all around Tokyo long before I stepped on the plane. It's uncanny how 1 to 1 this game is, and it gives me great hope for the potential for making the many great roads of the world driveable for all. I've driven Japanese mountain passes, Tokyo streets, Fuji Speedway, and Ebisu circuit, all from the comforts of my home with real driving physics and experience. I can't wait to see the full potential of racing simulation. This example is the only example I can give of a game or media being exactly as it's portrayed, and it gives a positive image for Japan and all who dream to go there, to be able to explore Japan in a fun way without getting out of your house.

Based on that carrot post a few days ago
Takao had skipped lunch earlier that day, he’d forgotten to do this homework and needed to finish it before class. Because obviously Midorima wouldn’t help him with it, and he was left to frantically research in the library during lunch period.  So now he was at basketball practice, hungry and thinking about dinner. He wiped the sweat off his forehand and looked, or rather, glared over at Midorima, who was wearing an orange shirt. He was still mad about that homework thing, yeah.  But Takao didn’t really hold grudges, and it was Midorima’s nature anyway. So his mind wandered and went back to the carrot stew he’d have for dinner before he zoned back in and glanced at his friend again. And then he saw it. He suddenly doubled over wheezing, drawing the attention of his teammates.
“Takao, what’re you laughing about?” Otsubo lowered the basketball to his side and raised his eyebrows.
It took him a moment before he could wheeze the words out. “Shin-chan! He looks like a carrot!” Everyone stared at him in confusion, so Takao elaborated. “The Shutoku uniform. It’s orange like the shirt Shin-chan is wearing right now. His hair is green like a carrot stem.”
It took a moment for everyone to realize it. They looked Midorima up and down, looking at his green hair and orange t-shirt.  Then it clicked and they all started snickering, wondering how they had never realized it before.  Midorima looked a lot like a carrot. And they all found this ridiculously funny. Everyone was struggling to keep their composure and not howl with laughter, because they knew what would happen to Takao in a few seconds.
Despite having stood several feet away, Midorima still hear everything. Using the ball he had been planning to shoot, he turned away front he hoop and toward Takao.  With his usual accuracy and aloofness, he shot the ball, which directly hit his friend’s head.
“Shin-chan!” He wailed, rubbing the sore spot on his head.
“Don’t you mean....Carrot?” Otsubo snickered, knowing Midorima wouldn’t go so far as to shoot a ball at his captain.  He wasn’t, however, below shooting a murderous glare at his captain and threateningly picking up another basketball.
All of them hastily quieted and returned to practicing, but thanks to Takao, the nickname ‘Carrot’ was born and used as much as possible.
A week later, Midorima dyed his hair black and casually started carrying around a jar of green hair dye, especially around the basketball team. The ‘Carrot’ nickname was immediately abandoned after that, and the jar dye disappeared and natural green hair colour came back.
