The Waters Turn From Blue to Red | Harriet | Trial 3.5 | Re: What Happened

Avery asked it first. The question she knew was coming, the one she knew she’d have to answer. “What happened?” Manami echoed it. Harriet opened her mouth to respond, but then… everything fell apart. Bian, babbling and sobbing incoherently. Frank, begging her to take it back. Luz, glaring at her. Nao and Germain, silent and suffering in their own ways. Yuliya, telling her to expect a letter, despite everything. And Shinjuku…

She’d told him about her past. How at 12 years old she lost control of her emotions and attacked a student at school. How she was swiftly labeled a freak and a monster and lost all of her friends. How, for years afterwards, she would be struck with these impulses to hurt the people around her, physically or emotionally. How, in this world of endless cruelty and violence, those urges were stronger than ever. How fighting monsters and Bound to the death excited her– and how horrified she was of what would happen if she gave in to those urges.

He made a promise to her. That he would protect her from herself. That he’d make sure she would never have to kill again. He’d kept that promise, when they went to the mountains and confronted Tiger. And she cried and hugged him and thanked him for keeping her safe. She felt so much relief in that moment, and she truly believed that her fears would remain unfounded.

But in the end, it was just another lie she’d told herself to hide from the truth. Harriet knows what she is. Now everyone knows, too.

There’s movement in her periphery, and Harriet glances to her left. Vee. They offer their hand to her, like they’ve done many times before. Without hesitation she grabs their hand in her own and squeezes tightly. She doesn’t want to let go. She can’t let go.

But she lets go. She lifts her head to look at her friends. And, with tears streaming down her face, she begins to answer the question.

“This morning, we all saw a memory. My memory. And after it was over, I felt like my heart had been ripped out of my chest. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, about… about Joules. And I couldn’t stop thinking about how much I wanted the memories to stop. I don’t want to see anyone’s siblings die, I don’t want to live through a friend’s dying moments, I don’t want to… I don’t want to be reminded of someone I’ll never get back.”

“...When Frank’s memory hit, I couldn’t believe what I’d just seen. The way he’d acted. It- it wasn’t entirely his fault, I know that, but at the moment I was just… disgusted with him. I tried to put it out of my mind, but when I went to the third floor and heard him playing his guitar, so… I asked him what happened to his other kid. He told me he didn’t know, that he never saw them again. He yelled at me to leave him alone. So I left and went to the storage room. I was mad at him. I was mad at everything, and I was hurting so much, and I wanted the visions to stop, and I knew how to make them stop, so I…”

Her voice hitches. She doesn't want to say anymore. Just thinking about it makes her want to scream. [Self Harm CW] It makes her want to bang her head against the desk. It makes her want to bite her tongue until it bleeds. It makes her want to tug on her ears hard enough to rip them off. She deserves all of that and worse, for what she did. [CW End] But she owes everyone the truth. She has to keep going. Taking several shaky breaths, she continues.

“...I grabbed a lance. It was broken but I didn’t notice, or… maybe I didn’t care. Then I went back to where Frank was sitting, and… I took out all my anger on him. I don’t remember everything that happened. The bench… I must’ve broken it. And I don’t think he tried to hit me back… or if he did, he missed every time. But I do remember he tried to get me to stop. He told me that Joules wouldn’t want to see me like this. And I remember being so, so mad at him for saying that, for bringing them up. And I remember thinking that… if I threw him down the stairs into the secret room, nobody would find his body. So when I had the chance, I opened the staircase.”

Harriet squeezes her upper arms tight, her fingers pressing hard into the fabric of her sleeves. Briefly she glances at Frank, but she can barely make him out through the tears. “I’m sorry,” she whispers. Not that it would do any good. There wasn’t anything she could say or do that could make up for what she’d done to him. And there wasn’t anything she could say or do that could make up for what she did next.

“But… I didn’t… I didn’t know Meili was going to be there. I didn’t see him come in, I don’t remember if he said anything… he must have, right? He had to have tried to make me stop. But I couldn’t hear him, I was too angry, and I’m strong, too strong, so when I grabbed Frank to throw him down the stairs… I struck Meili with him, in the chest. And they both fell.”

“…That’s when I realized what I had been doing. What I had done. It was like I’d woken up from a nightmare, only to find out that everything that happened in the nightmare was real. I went down the stairs to see if they’d survived the fall, somehow, but… when I saw them lying there, I thought they were both dead. Then I heard footsteps coming. I hid. And then I saw Shin. I remembered the bond with Frank he’d told me about. And I knew, if he found out that I had done this, then…”

She had lied to protect herself, there was no denying that, but she had also lied to protect others from the truth. She'd lied to protect Shinjuku from seeing how badly she'd failed him. But in the end, she couldn't keep lying. Not when it meant that she'd have to watch another friend die because of her. Whimpering, she slowly lifts her head and looks towards Shin, her tearful eyes filled with regret and pain.

“I’m- I’m sorry I couldn’t keep our promise. I’m sorry that I couldn’t stop myself. I don’t want you to think you did anything wrong, you tried really hard for me, but I just… I’m not… I’m not a good person…”

Gasping for breath, Harriet’s gaze shifts to the right. Past Frank, Avery, and Theophania, to the empty seat where Meili once sat. Where he’d never sit again, because of her. She bites her lip, wishing that she could take it back, like Frank had begged her. She wants to see them smile again, wants to hear them sing and feel the gentle warmth of the sun radiating off of them. She wants more than anything for him to come back and still mostly be himself, the way Perry had.

But what are the chances she would want anything to do with her murderer?

“Meili— Meili’s my friend. When we all got here he was the first person to call me “friend.” I never forgot that. They always had such nice things to say about my art, always supported me, and I tried my best to be a good friend to them too. We got along so well, and she trusted me, a-and… I betrayed her, I k-killed her, I…”

Harriet knows what she is. Now everyone knows, too.

“I’m a monster…!”

hey hey heyyy! not your typical yorushika post here but does involve them. as in elmy and ojisuma. anyways

sometimes i feel like my interests just bleed and blend into each other, unless they can't. (like i literally don't know how the same person that draws a butt ton of cats and likes to radiate positivity and enjoys kawaii culture and decora and happiness listens to songs about literally just living for music, and having no purpose once you literally can't create anymore, or about losing someone close to you and just having this hole. this hole in my heart they left behind. they used to be the one that could fill the void but now that they're gone i can't fill it, it's this hole that keeps spreading and spreading in the middle of my chest)

i mean let's be real i physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually can't connect Perfume and this like danish pastel aesthetic. or Kyary Pamyu Pamyu with 8/31, the day Amy ran out of ink and oofed himself with the one gay ship i show my support on in the back of my notebooks. (those men. they can break up in front of my gravestone. and my spirit will float around. forever haunting this land. edit: i read The Moon That Breaks by TheHufflebean on AO3 and when i got to the breakup scene i lied on the floor and held my breath for like 5 minutes because well. i don't have a gravestone just lying around. but then i reread the tags and there was a make up scene (which WAS there thank whoever you'd like) and continued reading)

(also please don't yell at me for making them not sound like themselves, i wrote this at like 1am, i probably suck at writing and i modeled them after the original elma and amy okay thankth)

elmy au, sirius is amy and remus is elma. both are also music creators, sirius suffers from depression, gets told by a seer (idk why. oh maybe remus has a seer friend he'd like sirius to see?? *shrugs*) he'd have less than a year left to live because of a "chronic issue", loses it and [insert Letters to Elma here]

so i'm thinking it's kind of a poa grim situation here, where a bunch of symbols saying he'd die within the year just appear out of nowhere, more frequent than before and then he gets a diagnosis for some heart disease and then above scene plays out

edit: don't know how i forgot this buttttt um in Diary 5/15 Elma says "Life surely has an expiration date. Those were the words I let leak out to him, a long time ago." (him being amy ofc) and im just imagining remus saying a bunch of poetic stuff cuz even though he doesn't do it often, he's a freaking good songwriter then this comes up and sirius just internalizes those words like no other

also i think i've moved on from my Kamisama no Dansu (dance of the gods) phase, on to Ame Haruru (after the rain) and i want to mention a few lines. "another summer without you is on it's way" - i'm assuming this is remus going welp. i guess no boyfriend. it's been a while. (back when they were in school they had summers apart but then they moved in together so they also spent the summers together but ofc now that sirius is somewhere in gotland/farosund/idk remus is just. i guess you won't be there this summer) "finally, the rain fell" - a reference as to how amy/sirius left town before writing what it's like after the rain. and it's counterpart, "finally, the rain stopped" - remus/elma experiencing what it's like, knowing he didn't

more edit: uhm completely forgot about the lycanthropy so assume remus found a forest or something (you know what. it's the forest referenced in the instrumental mori no kyoukai/church in the forest) all the while sirius is in the back (or well lord knows where in gotland) cursing himself for forgetting the thing he does w/ bf every. single month

back to 12am me :P

oh but instead of writing down all the letters and whatever and then getting a box and mailing it off, sirius sends remus letters like individually and consistently so remus also goes to sweden and hunts him down but remus doesn't have any spare paper on him so he can't respond in any way

don't ask me how he sends the letters and how he receives the letters

oh wait i got it nvm! um sirius sends the letters by owl (how could i forget) and remus has a diary (because Elma's Diary) but you know. he's not one of those people that rips pages out of their books (at least in this au that exists in the void that is my mind)

and then he chases after him. literally looking freaking everywhere. sometimes they're 3 days apart. sometimes they're so close you'd be sure they have dora the explorer eyesight but no they JUST miss each other like BARELY by a MILLISECOND like seriously remus can freaking SMELL him but thinks it's like a hallucination (cuz he has been getting those recently, see Diary 8/27) or yk becuz he stole some of sirius' clothes (though on 5/15 Elma also says she can't taste anything so rem can't either. also smell & taste are connected so he essentially just loses the function to smell anything. sign of severe depression =w=)

and then comes 8/31. (machIGAUTTERUNDAYO WAKATTERUNDA ANTARA NINGEN MO--)

sirius is on the pier, opening the bottle of Flower Verdigris/Paris Green/Emerald Green/take your pick.

remus stands at the base (?) (what do you call that part on a dock/pier where you just get on) of the pier. he could recognize that black hair anywhere.

okay googled it

oh wait no that's for a floating dock

i googled it again

...found nothing. anyways

he stands at the base of the pier, at the silhouette sitting on the edge. he could recognize that curly, dark hair from 50 miles away.

"SIRIUS ORION BLACK!!!"

sirius' head turns. he seems to be crying.

"re...?"

anyways remus runs up to him and [insert nautilus mv epic outro here but instead of the guitar it's sirius and instead of elma crying the liquid water out of her... being it's remus who is also crying the liquid water out of his being][...also nautilus is a wip until they get home][to clarify things remus does not pick sirius up like the guitar. they're hugging so hard you'd think a spine would break and they're maybe kissing and definitely crying]

edit: i sat down and thought about it so um sirius is sitting on the docks like one would sit on a bench (legs dangling off of the surface) and remus just runs to him and drops on the floor, kneeling position similar to the epic guitar/piano outro in the nautilus mv with the thrown papers and they're still crying and the sun is rising because even though amy oofed himself on the dock around the evening on 8/31 here sirius tries to oof himself at dawn, cuz the line "someday, the dawn will break, so try and open your sleepy eyes, because i've pictured them so many times" and then they stand up face each other and then collapse onto each other (like lean onto each other) and then cue passionate kissing (finally) (ooh as the sun rises and parts through the clouds. someday i will try my best to draw it. and um put it here. be prepared for the ultimate pathetic. something idk.)

and right now they're just gay sobbing messes :P

yet another edit: i'm thinking i can find a way to incorporate the lily/remus friendship. so you know the old lady that first appears in Diary 7/5, right? i'm thinking she's at least a representation of lily, though of course in this au she's swedish (along with the other peeps. yk james and peter and severus mhm) so remus understands. nothing. in this au they first meet because lily needed help w/ baggage ig? it's on the ferry to gotland and well her first husband/bf passed on (shown in Diary 7/22, elderly woman says "Man" and smiles, implying she looks back on the memories fondly, and we're expected to believe this was her husband. i'm thinking in this au maybe??? snape/lily was a thing. not sure. write some ship in the comments/rbs i guess) also i'm pretty sure she thought remus was straight and that he lost his gf/wife and is trying to move on too (in case you forgot, he's looking for a certain sirius, which is in fact alive, who is his bf) and on the ship home on 9/25 (i like to think they as in r/s stayed in sweden for a bit longer, taking more pics together and enjoying whatever they missed while looking for each other) they see lily/elderly woman again with her child harry supported by the man she loves, james (aww that would be sweet tho. fluffy jily and wolfstar stuff at the end) (in canon Diary, the elderly woman with her children and the new husband is kind of a symbol for Elma, saying she'll move on and heal and potentially find someone else)

okay i thought about it and sat a bit more. and. remember 8/27? (the blend of fantasy/reality whatever where Elma finds Amy's stuff?) uhm i'm thinking something like that would happen here on 8/31, but ofc with more intervention from miss nice old lady (represented by lily). so she's moved on from her grief and found another love (james) right? well turns out james is still an animagus in this au (how helpful =w=) and lily is just. unsure of what the heck happened. (tho she does get some "help i'm looking for my boyfriend" vibes) until she connects the dots. they're fronking looking for each other before sirius' life reaches it's "expiration date" (though let's be real. throwing away that life would be like yeeting a loaf of freshly baked bread into the bin) so she tells james the master plan. she thinks on the last day of his life, remus would go out and look for him again, unaware of the fact that his boyfriend is literally at the lowest point of his life. so she'd sent out james for remus to follow (under the pretense that that was sirius' shadow, before leading him to the docks where sirius would go like once every like two weeks since coming to gotland to regret whatever he did) and then cue the scene from "and then comes 8/31. (maCHIGAUTTERUNDAYO WAKATTERUNDA ANTARA NINGEN MO--)" it's basically just saaaaaaaaaaaayonaaaaaaaaaaaaaaraa no haYASA DE KAOO WO AGETE. ITSUKA YATTO YORU GA AKETARA, MOU, ME WO SAMASHITEEEEE, MITEEEEEEEE, NEBOKE MANAKO NO KIMI WO, NANDEDATTE EGAITEIRU KARA (yeah i put some lines from nautilus, your point is?) all the while jily are just watching the gay sobbing messes™ from afar, in the forest or hiding in a bush near the base, high-fiving and cheering or something idk

ohkayee back again to me from 1am

oh also remus does write the responses to the songs sirius sent him, and they show each other freakin all the songs they wrote (so sirius shows him the summer grass gets in my way and a loser doesn't need an encore in the "original" notebook Elma finds on 8/27 but again this is wolfstar. so rem runs to siri and then they go back and take all the other stuff. and then remus shows him the pre-8/27 but in this case pre-8/31 songs and then writes ame to kapuchiino/rain and cappucino, kokoro ni ana ga aita/a hole opened up in my heart, yuu ichijou/only sorrow and the wolfstar version of amy because well. he wrote responses to almost the entire album. so close yet so far. and sirius is in the back reading the lyrics remus wrote and is just crying the liquid water out of his body because did he really cause his boyfriend that much pain? IM SORRYBDJSJSBDB DJSJSHEHDHDHDHEVRHFIKSJSJSJEGEUDHSHRJRIDJX DNDJE DDKAJWBBDJDISJABSDN9W72URIROAQHENNSOAOWIWKSKSKWKWKKAAAALSOWKMRRFIUY)

also sirius moves to the inn/room where remus stays in while doing the looketh for boyfriend and songwriting thing. remus doesn't realize how salty his pillow smells until now. (one of the downsides of crying yourself to sleep =w=)

i do realize there are some continuity errors in the way the songs are written, like in this au everything's supposed to happen within the same year, whereas in canon elmy everything happens assumably in two consecutive years (it doesn't explicitly state) and because it's written under two consecutive years assumably the songs would have to be written and sent at different times (especially august, a certain place, moonlight and evening calm, a certain place, fireworks.)

edit: so i'm thinking before the events of any of these. sorry if this ruins continuity in this au or something but like before the events of this remus co-wrote the summer grass gets in my way and a loser doesn't need a encore's songs (the first two eps by yorushika), specifically the ones with music videos except for The Clouds and The Ghost (for the summer grass - Say It. & Fireworks Beneath My Shoes and for a loser doesn't need - Hitchcock, Just a Sunny Day For You & Semi-Transparent Boy) and then when he finds the notebook they sit down and review the non-mv vocal songs thus far (Cattleya, Blooming In That Summer, A Loser Doesn't Need An Encore, Compulsive Bomber & Hibernation and they're all bops)

moreeee editttttt: so about the song Dance of the Gods. (because i've been freaking obsessed with it since like August) um there are a bunch of lines i want to include so. in the song at the end of the choruses, there are variations of the line "I don't care, I'll go even further, to a place no one's ever heard of, searching for the moonlight" (being "I don't care, I'll go even further, to a place no one can see, and put up an imitation of living" and "That's right, I'll go even further, to a place no one knows of, searching for the moonlight") and i think that's Elma giving up on creating music to give it "value" and "a life of it's own", and creating music because well it's fun but in this au i think that's remus going I WILL FOLLOW BEEF TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH IF THAT'S WHERE HE IS (not sure why remus would call sirius moonlight tho cuz well he's moony) (okay you know what. sirius looks down upon his ability to compose while calling remus' songs his moonlight and that he was jealous of his skills. remus, being the self loathing person he is thinks it's like a light hearted joke or something. now that his boyfriend is gone he's trying to find this "moonlight" boyfriend saw that he couldn't see, wanting to live out his ideals)

and another edit: so the August, A Certain Place, Moonlight and Evening Calm, A Certain Place, Fireworks problem. the thing about the Elmy story is Elma's story takes place a year, i think, after Amy's, so all the songs would be written at completely different times, not necessarily within a few days of each other. i'm thinking sirius wrote August and sent it out to remus and then remus wrote Evening Calm because they sound similar and at first canon Elma imitated Amy before slowly moving on to her own style so these gay messes do too

same issue between Let's Dance and Dance of the Gods - but this time i think Dance of the Gods was written shortly after Let's Dance

and then they go back home which is in Sekimachi i guess (that's the town Elma met Amy so ??? i guess r/s lives there now??? they (elma and amy) met in the cafe (that has since closed down) shown in the rain and cappuccino mv which is allegedly in sekimachi) and live long enough for me not to be able to think about how their lives end because now that i ship them so bad, reading ootp and tdh again would practically (and effectively) traumatize me. i'd be scarred for life. it's like that one scene in nakineko where Kento says he hates Miyo and rejects her in front of the whole class and then she starts tearing up and runs out of the class and Yori follows her and then Miyo is just numb to the pain. she got hurt so bad she can't feel anything. flash forward to when she gets home. *face buried in pillow* [LOUD SOBBING NOISES]

more edit: i just realized. okay so on the last Letter (from 8/31, when Amy runs out of ink) Amy states he quit music once, but Elma brought him back into it, after she showed him some songs she wrote and sung and he described it as (wait lemme pull up the doc) "unerring, faultless light that can only illuminate the night. unimaginably soft, dazzling beyond my wildest dreams, pale moonlight" (ink fades away at the word moonlight) and um now i feel like that's what sirius would sometimes call remus (besides moons or moony)

like no. honey we're gon kill no one today. thank yu. (maybe this is why i read fanfics)

another edit: so you know how i listed here they go home and share the songs they wrote and whatevers?? um now im thinking. remus finishes writing the last 4 songs that in Elma's Diary were written after 8/27 (rain and cappuccino, a hole opened up in my heart, only sorrow and the wolfstar version of amy in case you forgot) and sirius shares his thoughts

so um here

(also i feel like the "still grieving" thing would be remus. just being scared about the fact that bf might just run out the door and disappear again? and feels a lot safer when he wakes up with bf in his arms)

rain and cappuccino:

remus: to be fair, what i responded to had a similar message. ...as if i could let memories of you fade away (no literally like i can't even if i wanted to)

(for context, the song sirius would've written is false night, whose main line is "I want to open a hole in you", and this song is the response to that, with the main (and first) line "That's why a hole has opened up in my heart")

[end of the song] *lying on the floor, indistinct but very loud sobbing noises*

remus: well i did have to capture what i felt then. more grieving and crying up ahead

(this is by far the most painful song ever it's like a knife stuck in your chest and you take the handle and keep twisting it deeper into yourself just AAAAAAAAA LET ME CRYYYYYYY)

[first verse] okay wow this sounds nothing like the song i wrote pretty ironic since you tried to literally "live" my life but okay

(before reading/listening) if this is another song about grief i swear im going to go cry alone for the next 5 hours

(after reading and/or listening) *5 second delay* *goes and hugs remus*

(amy as in the song is one of the sweetest songs yorushika has made like ever in their 8-ish years of existence. it responds to the song elma and was written when elma (the person) finally moves on from her grief and now looks fondly back to those days. when her lover oofed himself and she went through sweden crying and looking for him. ...yeah not that sweet but idk)

all the while remus is just writing this and showing it to him like how i do with my art when talking about it with my friends. just "alrightyyyyyyy i did a thing. here. *smacks paper down on table* any thoughts???"

and then [insert healing and fluffy romantic stuff here]

(okay you can steal this one)

(read the novel Plagiarism for context here! the album isn't as important here, it kind of serves as a background noise and also expresses oji-san's experience. oh also yes, the album takes melodies, beats and rhythms from actual songs (as well as their own, in the song plagiarism) so yeah go listen to the album too i guess :D)

sirius is oji-san and remus is tsuma but tsuma doesn't die and they also work together to produce music but what rem doesn't know is siri has been stealing???? all of these sounds??? for the songs he thought was original??? and eventually siri comes to the conclusion that the only original thing he can create is his downfall as a musical artist (essentially just goes through what oji-san does but no dead wife but this is a wolfstar au so no dead husband.) so he does. this is my pathetic replacement for the prank and them not trusting each other. and rem is not happy. (he no trust him no more) but siri then goes and creates the two songs night journey and ghost in a flower because i think oji-san wrote those songs after he destroyed his reputation cuz they sound so different from all the other songs in tousaku (or maybe it was because of nakineko. not complaining it is still my fav movie. there's CATS. there's drama. there's CATS. there's romance. there's CATS. there's magical island with cats. there's CATS. did i say CATS. anyways)

um society as a whole just hates on siri. honestly can't blame society as a whole.

and then he releases sousaku/creation without stealing a thing (applaud for him please. i cant hear you clapping CLAP HARDER) and then *cue redemption arc*

This isn't how he should be spending his Saturday night. He's a second year in highschool, he should be hanging out with friends, playing videogames, going on dates, or even just studying. Sure, he got super powers in some freak accident, but in world full of people with quirks, it's not like he HAD to use them for anything in particular.

But no, instead he's decided to become a criminal vigilante and… hunt ghosts apparently.

A few months ago, he'd have thought it nothing more than superstition. But after his battle with the Shadows atop Shido Tower, he can never be too careful. After all, the reason the shadows were able to get away with so much was because he didn't believe they existed until it was too late. If he had, maybe Makoto's Dad would still be-

He shook his head. No, this isn't the time for that.

He focused his attention back to the matter at hand, perching himself on the corner of a nearby rooftop, scanning the area with his enhanced senses.

"You sure this is the right place, Oracle?" He said, putting his finger to his ear. He was usually on call with one of his teammates during these little outings. Though given everyone else's somewhat busy schedule, it was almost always Futaba. "I'm not seeing anything."

"You're in Shinjuku, so yeah, it should be." His teammate responded. "Just… look around a little more, I dunno."

He sighs.

"This is probably just a waste of time." He stands up, and turns around preparing to walk away. "I mean, it's not like ghosts are re-AAH!"

And of course, just as he turned to leave, said ghost was… literally right behind him. One of those other heroes who was supposed to have died in that big… whatever it was a while back. Yet here he was, standing a few feet from him.

"What is it!? What's going on!?!?"

"I'm… going to have to call you back-"

"WHAT THE F-" Beep

"Uhhhhh-"

He rubs the back of his neck. He hadn't really thought this far ahead. What the shock do you say to a ghost??

"... Hi? Welcome to… um-"

Welcome to what?? Earth? Tokyo? The land of the living??

"... How's it going?"

“You and your friend have been looking for me for hours. Why?” He demanded to know, taking a few steps forwards, “I have done nothing worth bothering me over. Unless you’ve got a problem with me fighting villains on my own time. But you have no right to judge me, vigilante.”

He continued to approach,

“You think me a ghost? A spirit, haunting old grounds, like some kind of vengeful apparition?”

He stopped, his eyes briefly glowing blue, “Aaron Amamiya, I have only two questions for you. And I will have my answers. What business do you have with me, and why are you operating as a vigilante?”

The Stars May Rise and Fall: The Annotated Re-read (Chapter 9)

Welcome back to Chapter 9 of my probably-way-over-annotated annotation of The Stars May Rise and Fall--a queer retelling of Phantom of the Opera set in the visual kei subculture in turn-of-the-millennium Tokyo! (Buy it here, or order the paperback from your local indie bookstore.)

As always (and I think there are going to be a lot in this chapter), spoilers are fair game, including spoilers for chapters beyond this one. If you are cool with that, please read on.

I love the way this chapter opens. It takes about 12 minutes to get from Shinjuku (where the last chapter took place) to Meguro (where Rei lives) on the train, and Rei’s apartment is about a 10 minute walk from the station (for Teru), so Teru has given Rei less than half an hour to get ready, and he comes to the door in faded sweats.

I LOVE the idea of these boys being all comfortable and casual together. I would love to have fanart of them just chilling in pajamas or whatever, if anyone is interested in making my wishes come true.

ANYWAY. Aside from this just being a really nice mental image, it’s sort of telling, I guess, that Rei DOES come to the door--he never has before--and that even though he hasn’t had time to change clothes or anything, the mask isn’t a millimeter out of place. “Teru wondered if he’d been wearing it, even alone,” and... I don’t really know. Maybe. Either he was, or that was just his first priority when Teru called him. He REALLY doesn’t want to show his face, either way.

Otherwise, though, he’s relaxed quite a bit, and while he always wears long pants and long sleeves, he does at least take off the cloak in the really really freaking hot and humid Tokyo summer.

Teru’s just drunk enough to ask some of the things he wanted to ask but couldn’t work up the courage to while sober. He asks “Does it hurt?” (referring most obviously to Rei’s flail arm), and Rei says “Immensely” and then changes the subject to business. I’m pretty sure that “Immensely” was there from the first draft, and I love it. Like, Teru, what the hell kind of answer did you THINK you were going to get? (I mean, he was drunk, so he probably wasn’t really thinking that deeply at all, but still. Give a brutally honest answer and then change the subject... it’s a perfect response.)

Rei lists off a bunch of stores where he wants to sell the CD. These are all plays on the names of real music stores, but I sadly don’t remember what all of them were. “Tesla Coil” is Like an Edison... cause Edison and Tesla, right? Tesla the car company did not exist when I wrote this, and Like an Edison (surprisingly?) still exists today. Rock Amour is (quite uncreatively) Rock Love, which used to have two Harajuku locations that got cut down to one, and then disappeared entirely. Rock Love was my favorite. :(

Rei mentions a shop in Niigata, which is where Teru is from. I made Teru from Sanjo, Niigata because I used to date a guy who was from there, and I’ve been to Niigata City and Nagaoka, the second-biggest city in Niigata Prefecture a few times. I didn’t want to pick a place I didn’t know ANYTHING about, but also didn’t want to pick something like the place where I actually live or my husband’s hometown or anything. Also, different areas had different styles of visual kei, and Niigata bands tended to keep the 80s/90s style after it had gone out of fashion in Tokyo. So that kind of opens up the conversation to things that are not about music. Rei has already said that he’s not having a great day... probably mostly in terms of pain, but also in terms of “the guy I like was on a date with a girl,” and Teru admits that his date didn’t go so well, either. Again, I know I shouldn’t regret things about a book I’m mostly proud of, but I cut SO much “filler” in the name of trying to get this thing under the word count that mainstream publishers wanted that there aren’t many “fluff” scenes of the two of them just kind of being happy together... they’re not really HAPPY here, but just kind of hanging out. I wish I’d left in more scenes like this after they were actually in a relationship.

Rei lets Teru hear another song he wrote... more on this in Chapter 11, I think? At the moment it really just leads into Teru realizing that it’s too late for him to get home on the train, and Rei offering to let him spend the night, and steering the conversation away from music.

At the beginning of this encounter, Teru, who knows he’s already drunk, just kind of sips at the whisky Rei gives him, but at this point he downs an entire glass--liquid courage? (Again, NOT MEANT TO BE A ROLE MODEL JUST A FLAWED HUMAN, THANKS.) And then he asks Rei what happened to him.

Rei still doesn’t really give the whole story here. (Can you tell I really like characters having secret pasts and Big Reveals?) But he does tell Teru that it was a car accident, that it happened during the tour that was supposed to lead to his band getting a record deal, and that the rest of his band died. It happened on the Tohoku Expressway near Sendai, because there is this awful, twisty stretch of road up there where everyone goes 120km/hr and it’s TERRIFYING.

He doesn’t go into a great deal of detail, but he tells Teru a little bit about his injuries, about how he was told he would never use his arm again, and then how he asked for a mirror, and Teru asks him to show him his face. In the very, very, VERY first draft, I was trying to write this to be the unmasking scene. But I never actually wrote it that way because it felt so... non-consensual? And it IS non-consensual in so many versions of the Phantom story. The most famous image is probably of Mary Philbin’s Christine sneaking up behind Lon Cheney’s Phantom and tearing off his mask. Christine does the same thing in the Lloyd Webber musical. And originally I was going for something like that, too, but when it came time to write it, I couldn’t have Teru just... VIOLATE Rei like that.

And I think Teru kind of realises the same thing, that what he thinks he’s about to do is really not OK... and so they end up kissing instead.

Now, I don’t think this is a unilateral kiss. I don’t think either of them kisses the other without permission. It just... happens. But as soon as he’s done it, Rei regrets it and pulls away.

I think this is mostly guilt. He’s promised to be loyal to Saki. Teru doesn’t know that, yet, but Rei feels like he’s betrayed Saki here, because they never broke up. It’s not breaking up if one of you DIES. So he feels like he’s betrayed Saki, and like he doesn’t deserve to be happy or to fall in love with anyone else, because he feels like he KILLED Saki, and so he just immediately pulls away, tells Teru he has to work... and poor Teru I think just doesn’t know what he’s done wrong, because it seemed mutual in the moment.

Final random detail for this chapter, Rei tells Teru that the first train is at 4:33. I’m not sure why he has that memorized, but at least when I first drafted this chapter way back in 2005, it was for some reason still possible to look up the train schedule for a Sunday in July 2000 online. I’m not sure if it still is, but I was really particular about looking up things like that when and where I could. So the first train actually was at 4:33.

June 29, 2022

A group of friends and I went to Tokyo Disneyland. Honestly, it was amazing. But I have also been assured that my experience is not typical of visits to Disney parks. Since June is typically rainy season, crowds are lighter throughout the month. Plus, it was a Wednesday and most people had school or work and couldn’t go to Disney.

A probably incomplete list of the rides that we went on/experiences we had:

I think the longest wait we had was for the Pooh ride, but that was probably only about 15-20 minutes. The others were generally less than five, and once or twice we walked straight onto the ride.

I’m so glad I went into this entirely blind as to what some of these rides entailed. I don’t think I would have been as enchanted with my first Disney park experience if I knew everything that was coming. Like, holy crap Space Mountain is so good, especially when you don’t know what to expect (also, I am told the American Space Mountain is no longer like this—I had the old-school Space Mountain experience, not whatever the new one is). And again, because the lines were so quick, we went on Space Mountain twice just because. That was amazing.

July 1, 2022

On this day, I went to SkyTree with some friends and we decided to actually go up to the observation deck—both the lower and upper ones (though, tbh, unless you are really invested in whatever special partnership they have at any given time, the lower deck is the better option). I expected to be scared, because it’s so high, but it ended up being so high up that it didn’t even feel real. Unfortunately, we picked a hazy day to visit, so we couldn’t see Fuji from the observation deck, but it was still fun. I even went and stood on the glass floor section they have!

Afterwards, I met up with a friend and wandered around Sunshine City (basically a mall, which happens to be where one of the Pokemon Centers is—yes, I visited two Pokemon Center locations in one day, since SkyTree also has one). While we were wandering around the mall, we realized that there were signs indicating a free live concert was happening that evening. We decided to stick around and see what that would be like. Turns out a small boy group was releasing their first album and was holding a free concert there to promote it! The acoustics of a mall are not ideal for a concert, but it was still great fun!

July 8, 2022

Start of the Summer term! This class level has 4-5 items of homework almost daily, so I’ve ended up not doing as much—plus, friends have been focusing more on studying, not just doing homework, so there’s a definite decrease in amount of things done since this day…

July 23, 2022

A group of us went to get lunch at the TEXMEX FACTORY in Shibuya before heading over to Ikebukuro to visit an owl cafe (it’s honestly too rare to get anybody to do stuff outside of Shinjuku, so this was a huge day). While I do wonder about the welfare of the owls in this situation, it was just too cool to actually get to see and interact with owls!

July 30, 2022

Got confirmation that a friend from high school is here in Tokyo at the same time I am. Trying to arrange something there, but we will see if that actually happens. This year would be our 10 year high school reunion, so it would be beautiful if we could actually meet up halfway across the world like that!

August 6, 2022

I went out to Nakano in the morning to check out their Bon Odori festival, but got freaked out and left before going in—I should have brought some friends with me for moral support.

By the evening, I built up my courage enough that I made my way over to the Bon Odori festival happening at Sunshine City. I still didn’t join in the dancing, but I did join in the spectators. It’s a really neat tradition.

I really haven’t done anywhere near as much stuff as I planned to—partly due to the homework, partly due to the heat, partly because friends keep coming down sick. Hopefully I can do more soon. This Thursday is a holiday, Friday is midterms, then the week after that is our “summer break.” Currently there’s talk of actually doing things on Friday and during the break. Hopefully I have more to report then!

Summary: Hanma Shuji's life was boring, dull. What's the point of fighting if you already know how it's gonna end?

Warnings: spoilers from the manga, a bit graphic.

Notes: angst, introspective, strangers to bet friends, chaotic duo.

Words count: 701

Imagine your life being always the same. You already know what’s going to happen tomorrow, the number of cigarettes you’re gonna lit, how it’s gonna end, the way you’ll crawl to sleep in your bed with bruises on your face and aching hands.

Hanma Shuji’s life was exactly that boring. So dull. It had no taste at the not-so-mature age of 16, no color, no excitement whatsoever. Others would tell otherwise, of course. Being a loner fighting in the streets, making yourself known to the best gangs of Tokyo, that’s impressive.

“Hanma, you’re literally Kabukicho’s Reaper, that’s the coolest thing ever!”

“Hanma-san, how can you fight so many people at once?”

“Shuuuji… would you like your cock sucked? After all, you won again today.”

All those titles and honorifics, Shinigami, The Reaper, Shinjuku’s Zombie, just made him smile a bit as how silly they sounded to him.

If only all those morons knew…

What’s the point of fighting if you already know how it’s gonna end?

That was until Hanma met Kisaki Tetta. With him it was different.

That boy was built differently. Hanma was a “kind soul” at heart, he knew that if he wanted to he could have crushed him in a blink of an eye, but he didn’t want to until he had listened to that boy’s requests. Average height for 13 years old, scrawny, not even great at fighting, bad eyesight. Where was he hoping to go like that?

“Hanma, be my pawn. You’ll help me become the greatest delinquent of Tokyo.”

It was not a matter of fighting power or looks. Kisaki was giving off a weird vibe. And Hanma was all about weird vibes.

The weirder the merrier. Everything thrilling and unexpected was a joy for him, and Kisaki gave himself to him as the best present ever. He didn’t see that coming!

All those hours of scheming, plotting to destroy people's lives, to cause chaos between gangs, to break teeth! Hanma felt reborn after years of boredom, of letting himself go.

“With you, my dull life became a circus! I see colors, Kisaki!”

The future kept changing, and for once he liked being in the shadows, away from the center of attention. That’s what Kisaki taught him. He loved being his tool, being used.

“Hanma you freak, do you know I’m only using you because of your… gifts?”

Hanma always smiled at that statement. Whether that was true or not he didn’t care much. He liked Kisaki, as long as he wanted him by his side he was happy.

“I know, the moon can’t shine on its own.” His abilities were useful for the greater purpose of another being. Just like the Sun’s light hitting the Moon to let her shine.

After a while, he saw that sentiment change. Kisaki laughed with him, was interested in his opinion, stuck more around.

And Hanma grew fond of his friend. Yes, friend. Hanma was sure to call him like that and was even surer to be loved back. In all those years he never saw anyone looking and treating him like Kisaki did.

As embarrassing as it sounds hearing it from Hanma, he was happy to have found someone. For once.

But everything must come to an end. It’s just how life goes, Hanma knew that. He was not new to death, damn.

But for once he thought it wouldn’t happen to him, again.

“What a grand way to die…”

How long since, in all those years of traveling back and forward in time, he shed a tear for someone else? He couldn’t tell.

He didn’t imagine it was going to end like that. He didn’t see that in the many futures he went. Kisaki was always there, conquering his bright future.

What went wrong this time? A plot against him? Something that they didn’t calculate, perhaps?

No.

Bad luck. Wrong place, wrong time. Fate.

Just fate, fooling even the biggest fool of them all.

“Hey, Kisaki… are you gonna leave me alone?”

Kisaki’s corpse was laying on the ground, so badly ripped apart and broken that Hanma was feeling nauseous looking at it.

“Uh… I promised to tell you…”

The Red Devil’s Chronicles’ Devil May Cry January 2022 News Updates: Crypto Trouble, Anniversaries, Merch, etc.

Hey, how's it going? Hope everyone's 2022 year has started off all right. Here are all of January 2022's Devil May Cry related news updates I've found:

1. There's going to be another Devil May Cry V pachislot game.

2. CAPCOM is looking for content creators from USA.

3. January marks Johnny Bosch (Nero)'s and Morikawa Toshiyuki (Dante)'s birth dates.

4. The Deluxe version of Asmus Toys' DMCV Vergil figure comes with spiral swords. b) Speaking of figures, I came across this really nice-looking Trish one on Ebay from H3ll.

5. January marks the anniversaries of Devil May Cry 2, Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition, and Devil May Cry 4.

6. Prime1Studio celebrates Devil May Cry's 20th anniversary by selling certain merch that can only be found in the Shinjuku Marui Annex, in the Prime 1 Studio Gallery of Japan. b) Another thing you can find there.

7. Speaking of merch, the CAPCOM Cafe's holding another Devil May Cry V event this month with these cute little things available. b) And Dante's feature on the CAPCOM store's new art promo. c) And the CAPCOM store has these Devil May Cry V themed manicure sets. d) And more.

8. Crypto/NFT groups are stealing Casey Edwards' Devil May Cry V sound tracks. 9. The Visions of V manga got more updates.

My Thoughts On These Updates:

1. It's too bad that these pachislot/pachinko titles are exclusive to Japan, but we can thank Youtube for some of the wacky footage produced (these are from the previous pachislot title).

2. If I lived in USA and knew what to share from my own content I've created over the years, I would've loved to participate in the Capcom Creators program.

3. A happy (belated) birthday to Johnny and Toshiyuki. Great voice actors for sure.

4. I need more money....to have whatever figures Asmus toys creates. They definitely have improved on their figure building. I'm not much into female character usually, but that Trish figure looks really nice.

5. Happy anniversary to the 3 Devil May Cry games that came out January many years ago. I remember after playing the 1st Devil May Cry how excited I was to play DMC2. Even though I've played games since my preschool/kindergarten years, I still didn't understand gaming at first, I thought DMC2 was better than DMC1 due to the visuals, and stuff. But as the years went by, I understood more and can definitely see the reasons for the backlash with this game. But without it, there wouldn't have been a DMC3 to make up for the mistakes. And it had some pretty great concepts with it, too. Speaking of DMC3...Ahh, Special Edition. After playing the original 3rd, I got hyped when I found out that you can play as Vergil (my 2nd favourite character), fight Jester as a mini boss, and unlock more bonus content. Despite the lack of extra levels, I still enjoyed it. DMC4 on the other hand, I was so hyped about this game until I saw how repetitive and unfinished it was. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the cinematics, characters, and gameplay mechanics, but this game definitely needed more stuff happening.

6 and 7. That's awesome what CAPCOM features on their promo art for their store, and those acrylic stands in the next cafe event look so adorable. Japan really has better things when it comes to video game stuff. I got curious and looked up Devil May Cry stuff on Ebay, and I found out that you can get quite a bit of the CAPCOM store items on there, especially the Prime1Studio statues. Thing is, I'm not sure if Japan ships to Canada. Even if they did, it's very costly (according to the prices displayed). It's interesting that they have a manicure set 'cause I happen to be an aesthetician (someone who does nails and skincare stuff), so these would be interesting to have for my own enjoyment when taking care of my nails, especially the fact that they come with oils that are supposed to smell like the character fragrances.

8. If there's one thing I can't freaking stand, it's art thieves. Always get permission from artists if you want to share or sell something from them, even if they're credited properly. I've had to deal with a few Devil May Cry Facebook groups (and I got kicked out of 3 of them for this reason) for sharing fan art without the artists' permissions. Yes, giving proper credit like profile links and such is great, but please...please...PLEASE ask permission from them before sharing their stuff? If anything, you're just a clout chaser that’s stealing their clout and motivation of wanting to continue making any more content more than helping them out. I admit that I made these mistakes on my Facebook pages in the past, but I've removed all of them since 2020 and don't plan on reposting fan content anymore (except mod links) , unless I get permission which I will show proof of. I really hope that Casey gets his songs back. 9. I've been seeing some image previews and fan reactions on Twitter often of the Visions of V manga's continuation, but I still need to catch up. Glad it's still ongoing compared to the DMC1 comics and DMC3 mangas.

Wait wait wait, back up. They didn't want to make it obvious that Adventure was about kids from Japan???????????? The entire freaking series has SO many cues in the animation alone!!!

Well, to be fair, you don't make it to Japan with landmarks that are that recognizable until Adventure episode 30. (You could make an argument for Adventure episodes 21 and 29, but the average kid who has never been to Japan will probably not know anything about what Odaiba or Hikarigaoka looks like, and Hikarigaoka gets passed off as the fictional “Highton View Terrace”.) Adventure episode 30 actually has following the Tokyo subway lines be a plot point, so that's allegedly where they decided to give it up and just admit it, but I can easily see them going for the first twenty or so episodes thinking that it'll mostly just be an otherworldly adventure and the home lives of all the kids wouldn't matter. (Especially since you have lines like Mimi mentioning a younger brother she turns out to very much not have; I really suspect they didn't anticipate the kids would actually be going home at some point.)

Had the series really been like that, all the Japanese cultural references probably wouldn't have mattered as much since it wouldn't have been as relevant to the story at hand, and so things could be handled on a case-by-case basis, but the Tokyo arc of Adventure and the entirety of 02 had the real-life location and the surrounding cultural context really matter, and at that point you can't hide it anymore. And then Tamers takes place in real-life Shinjuku, so you can't hide that either, and by the time they got to Frontier, real-life Shibuya didn't matter as much, but I figure they probably just gave it up anyway (especially since the dubbing production company responsible had changed too).

For Savers and Xros Wars, the settings of Yokohama and the Koto ward aren't that relevant to their respective series (if I remember correctly, Savers doesn't mention Yokohama in the series verbally at all), so I think their dubs had no reason to bring it up.

Can I ask what about neo changed your mind on joshneku? I've been feeling sort of similar about neshiki, in twewy I was "meh" on it (although I got why people shipped it, they never seemed connected enough to me), but now my opinion of it has become "this is pretty cute"

I think I might put this under a "read more", because I don't want to risk starting a ship war--even though the TWEWY fandom is really cool, and has never done that, I think--but better safe than sorry:)

I think it was Joshua being like, "So, you don't want to stay here and become Composer, then?", which is of course code for Joshua asking Neku to stay in the UG with him. Or for Neku to stay in the UG in general, with Josh maybe thinkin he belongs there? I don't freaking know. And it's put out as a joke with his tone--and it very well could be a joke, knowing Josh; in fact, I'm thinking it is--but damn, Josh. You're joking about him killing you to get him to stay in the UG... I feel there might be some serious feelings here?

I feel their whole interaction in that scene was pretty cute, too. And it was nice knowing that Joshua "saved" Neku, though I'm putting quotes there, because he also locked him in Shinjuku for three years with some ulterior motives, after that whole "...I don't need him anymore" spiel in A New Day, that we all knew was a lie because of the ellipses there.

And Joshua showing up to help Neku when his syncing up with all of Shibuya had been taking a toll on him, is a pretty spectacular moment, too. Neku is surprised and genuinely glad to see him, you can tell, and calls him "partner."

And then there's that text at the beginning of the game, where someone is saying they hope someone wakes up soon. And someone just told me today that data-miners found out that that Joshua's speaking... and take this with a grain of salt, because I don't know for sure, but I assume he's talking to Neku, then? Because I can't imagine who else it would be. Even though "wake up" doesn't really make sense to me with the context of what we know about Neku's situation. You'd think it would say "I hope you get out soon", then. But maybe it's "wake up and find the exit out of Shinjuku soon?" Ehh. That's why I say take this one with a grain of salt. Joshua could easily be talking about someone else here. But if it is JoshNeku, it did just add points for them to me, LOL, to see that Josh thinks about Neku this much, I guess. Though if he was talking about Neku, I know it was probably mostly because, “I need you to wake up to help me win this game against Kubo,” more than, “I need you to wake up because I love you,” but still. Edit: Actually, you know what? I’m a moron. He was probably talking to the new proxy, Rindo, after he passed out that day. So, yeah. Ignore this one.

Also... this is more of a fanon thing, but I always imagined that Joshua would become friends with all of the Hachiko Group. And I think he did. I think they maybe hung-out a little (at least one time?) before Neku was shot. At least that's the impression I got. But it definitely seems he mostly stayed friends with Neku above anyone else--and cares about him above anyone else in Shibuya--so is there love there?

And also... as I said in my one post, Neku is just so chill and forgiving now. He'd probably be willing to try a relationship with Josh now, where he definitely wouldn't have been at the end of TWEWY. I think he's probably forgiven him at this point. Heck, he's forgiven Coco.

Though I still think I'll always prefer NeShiki... because they were just such a wholesome and healthy, well-written ship in the first game (one of Square Enix's best written canon couples to me), who saw the worst of each other and then ended up helping each other change for the better. And Neku doesn't even care about what Shiki looks like. He loves her soul. And I do think they had some great chemistry during their week and some fun shipping moments. And they remind me of SoKai some. And that's my ultimate OTP. And anything that reminds me of SoKai, I also end up shipping like crazy.

But, while I'll always prefer NeShiki... I'm not gonna lie, part of me was kind of disappointed that there was so little of them and so little Shiki in Neo? I feel like if the first game hadn't done so much for them for me, they could have been moved out of their spot of OTP for me? IDK. Part of me wishes that Shiki had been involved trying to find Neku somehow? But then again... I also don't want her to have killed herself, or anything like that! And I'm glad that she lived her life to the fullest, and accomplished her dream--that's what Neku would have wanted for her, too--and I'm even worried that if she had tried to find Neku, she would have gotten the Kairi from Kingdom Hearts treatment... which definitely wouldn't have been good and we also don't need a copy of that plot, so...

But then I look at what Neo did give them, and think that it--tied with their stuff from the first game--is more than enough. Much more than enough. And that I'm crazy for wanting anymore.

Anyway, this has gotten super long now, and maybe even confusing (though hopefully not!). I pray this answers your question at all. Shutting up now!

i finally had some time after work hell deadlines to look this up and it’s the opening movie right?? for a two minute clip it packed in so much i’m kind of still breathless after watching it. two of my favourite things about the original game was the super distinct artstyle and the unique soundtrack and literally this trailer/movie had ALL OF THAT DIALED UP TO THE MAX and it just makes me smile so so much omg. and that ten second sneak of twister. and the lyrics

neku neku neku they’re just going to keep slipping us glimpses of him huh? so i’ve absolutely missed this memo somewhere but is it true that neo is set three years after twewy??? (i know a lot of japanese gaming mags + the ntwewy japanese twitter release snippets/trivia but i can’t keep up). so it’s true then that neku does seem older than fifteen here. the glitch effects and the fact that he’s been in (and surviving) the freaking game/UG for three years is convincing me more than ever that he’s playing a secret report/acting behind the scenes type of role for this game. like at this point, has he even managed to reach some unique form of noise, kind of like minamimoto in his taboo form? the original game has always emphasized how unique neku’s abilities were (the fact that he can use all the psychs, and can even call on rhyme’s noise form from a pin despite not being a reaper) so it won’t surprise me at all if he’s managed to transcend the frequencies and become a new unique kind of entity in the UG............. especially if the composer and the producer are actively backing him behind the scenes. or even if they aren’t, I mean, aren’t noise/players/UG/alive people in the RG/all the way to the angels all just a matter of tuning to different frequencies? gosh who knows maybe even shinjuku’s destruction has messed up the frequencies so much that neku is able to take advantage of it on his own (but i like the idea that he’s supported by at least someone, whether that’s the composer/producer or whoever, since twewy was all about -trust your partner- and opening up to others, so i like to think neo!neku is living that principle loud and clear, and not lone-wolfing it).

(i am dying to know what is going on with the composer and the producer. i know we’re not going to see any hint of them at all in the neo trailers, because spoilers! but ahhhhhhhhhhh)

i haven’t had time to catch up with the latest anime episodes (i watched all of shiki’s episodes up to the end of week one!) so once work hell improves (i’ve been dying since labour’s day which IRONICALLY I HAD TO WORK ON) and hopefully deadlines will end by next week I can binge watch all of joshua’s episodes! i’m really excited for those and your previous message about them having ice cream makes me all \(*u*)/ because i love them and having more little moments between the characters will be excellent (i love the little hangout sessions we saw of shiki/rhyme/beat/neku in the anime that we didn’t really get in the game ahaha)

The Final Day’‘

This is absolutely going to be long and rambley af so I’mma just put a cut here. This is just one massive post for the entire rest of the game.

Rindo is back in the RG somehow. Which makes less than no sense. What was that crazy beam. Shibuya is GONE there isn’t an RG to send him back to, even if someone did want to send him back?

That beam reminded me of the Jesus beams not gonna lie.

But… Fret. Presumably Nagi and Beat too. They’re. Gone. Poor Rindo… That’s the worst kind of gaslighting. Reality itself is gaslighting this poor kid. ‘Your best friend in the world is gone, so gone that no one remembers him. You don’t even get to mourn properly because there is no one TO mourn.’ I am also not okay.

I assume this random talking to us at Hachiko is the dude I saw a brief glimpse of in a screenshot from the final trailer. Hazuki Mikagi, okay. Everything about this is supremely weird.

Leading this weirdo around and he asked how we feel about emotions? Um, what?

Was he responsible for that beam of light?

This whole thing is extremely unsettling, I don’t think I like it. The music is all… serene, this guy keeps asking existential questions, who even comes up to some kid clearly having a bad day and demands a tour of the city.

He knows Rindo’s name even though we never told him. Not sure if that was a slip or an intentional nudge that Something is going on but there we go.

‘I should take this chance to apologize for Kubo. He’s a real piece of work.’ WHAT. YOU SEND HIM TO SHINJUKU?!?! IS THIS KID GOD!? WHAT!??!

‘Exorcised’. Like a demon. Which is a psychic rank you can get in the first game, and probably this game, ergo, a thing that exists in this universe.

Okay. So this Hazuki guy is Something Else. I dunno if he’s an Angel or higher or WHAT. He’s something. And he “exorcised” what Fuckwad had Fallen to when he decided not to stop at Shinjuku and continue on to Shibuya. But he only did this after Rindo faught so hard to stop it. And then he gave Rindo what he thought Rindo wanted. And now he’s here trying to understand why Rindo is miserable. Which to us, as humans, is obvious: the people he loved, the connections and family he had made through the game are all gone and worse, no one remembers they ever existed.

And now he’s being offered the chance to try again. This feels like a double edged sword. And I don’t care.

Okay I actually kind of appreciate the thing Hazuki is pulling here. He knows what it is that Rindo wants, I’m pretty sure he’s listening to his thoughts, actually, and in order to make Rindo own up to it he’s arguing the ‘no’ position. Giving Rindo someone to argue against so he can convince himself.

WHY DOES EVERYTHING HAPPEN AT UDAGAWA.

Bruh some of these clips were in the announcement trailer.

(I can’t wait to read the secret reports. That’s gonna be a wild ride.)

I think… he’s proposing we awaken the city and use the energy generated by the thoughts and emotions of the living people to neutralize some of the Dissonance Noise that are waiting in the pin. Erode some of its power.

Some random FGO servant headcanons because that’s what this blog is now:

The Avenger servants act like a family with Dantés as the father. They fight among themselves like a family but are usually really supportive of each other. Salieri wrote a new piece everyone is getting together to hear it if he found a way to play it on a computer in Chaldea. Gorgon does little home improvement things and everyone loves them. When they fight they insult each other and almost always have to apologize before a NP is being thrown at them.

Merlin is not allowed anywhere near the kitchen or allowed to deliver food. Nobody trusts him to not slip anything into it.

Edmond Dantés knows how to help with panic attacks, wether it’s servants or living humans, he knows how it feels from all that time ago when he was first put into the Chautte D’If.

Every servant is just always hoping and praying that they don’t have any alternate versions of themselves get summoned. Carmilla is just sitting in the summoning room and whenever she thinks a Liz is going to get summoned she just starts kicking it away and aggressively hissing, and Liz will do the same if Carmilla isn’t summoned in Chaldea at that point.

Enkidu goes out and meets new Servants everyday and is considered one of the best to welcome new servants, because if Enkidu can calm down Gil, Enkidu can do anything.

Atalante made Chaldea buy board games to be more inclusive in game nights for the children servants. Before all that was available was available were dirtier games like Cards Against Humanity. Unsurprisingly it ends worse when playing board games. Merlin wins a lot of Monopoly because of all his money “management” as Magi Mari. Queen of Sheba exclusively plays Monopoly because it’s money. The children servants are under the watchful eyes of Atalante and far away from the adult servants who are screaming over Uno as they come close to having a full out war after having +4s stacked until Cú had all the plus fours in the deck stacked against him.

Moriarity tried to have a “fuck Holmes this is an chaotic” club to watch movies. It ends poorly because most of them are taking but he gets to spend time with his adopted daughter Fran so it wasn’t a total waste.

If Fate ever had a crossover with another franchise outside of the Type-Moon universe, and specifically with Epic Seven the singularity would be absolutely chaotic. The singularity is essentially the acolytes accidentally created it and then the Chaos Gates picked it up and spread it and suddenly the Master is dragged in. The Acolytes are like “who is this?” and the Master (I’m going to say Ritsuka) is just freaked out and the Servants won’t let that happen. So like a bat out of hell an Avenger rushes in because of the vibes the Acolytes give off and just threaten the hell out of them. Ritsuka just continues summoning servants and eventually Ras, Arky, and Mercedes show up and just see this Mage summoning all of these heroes to fight the Acolytes and they’re a little amazed. And suddenly Vildred just shows up out of nowhere with Romani (because I miss him) and they explain everything. And like the singularity has all the major bosses of FGO and it just starts dragging in characters with grudges and forces them to work together against the bosses. So like Cecilia, Luna, Yufine, and Alencia for example are all fighting Tiamat alongside the Babylonia servants. It’s just pure chaos. It doesn’t to have all of the characters in the other game just a certain set of them: so for example in Epic Seven you could get Mash (Knight), Artoria (Warrior), and Archer Emiya (Archer). And for FGO you could get Ras (Ruler), Mercedes (Caster), Kayron (Avenger or Foreigner), Tenebria (Avenger or Foreigner), Vildred (Saber). I just thought that would be interesting.

Dantés is always mad at Sherlock because of Sherlock posing as himself in Shinjuku. Dantés will randomly appear in front of him and just break his focus and then be rude as he leaves.

Every morning there’s always a rush to the cafeteria for the staff to get coffee/tea/hot chocolate to get ready for the day. Dantés makes the best coffee just no matter what, no other servant can make coffee except him. Different servants make the tea every morning depending who gets assaigned what day. The Santa servants make the hot chocolate. None of them really want to be there but they do it because Master will go on each line and get something and the servants get happy seeing their master.

Merlin eats anything put in front of him as long as whoever made it made it with love for someone. He eats the emotions within the food rather than the food. He tastes the joy and love and he feels it’s even better when his Master made it, though he has no fact behind it.
