I drew this wayyy earlier in this NaNoWriMo Season. Like November 3rd maybe?
So one of my main complaints with Anne Bronte’s Agnes Grey is actually the portrayal of Rosalie and Matilda Murray (none of my followers/mutuals are probably surprised, I’m sure).
So Vicar Hatfield is hitting on 17 year old Rosalie...Yeah, gross. In 1847 when the novel came out, it was acceptable for full grown ass adult men to do that. So instead of maybe demonizing the child (or children in this case because 15 year old Matilda functions as Rosalie’s side kick in Agnes Grey) maybe we should reframe that story in its proper light? Cue Kesha’s “Dinosaur” on full blast.
Yeah, Rosalie is a bit of a Victorian Regina George and Matilda is her rude horse-loving sister (read Victorian gender/sexuality code: a butch lesbian). Basically, they are both supposed to be examples Anne Bronte uses to tell little Victorian girls how not to be. Ouch.
The top panel is Anne Bronte’s versions of Matilda and Rosalie because they’re technically the second arc villains of her text as they are unpleasant to Agnes, the heroine, specifically and everyone else in general.
And the bottom panel is closer to how they are in my NaNo project. I felt bad for both of them in the original book. At the end of the book, Rosalie is in a loveless marriage (not to Hatfield thank God) and the new governess (not Agnes) is trying to break Matilda’s spirit and force her to conform to the ideals of a straight Victorian Lady. :/
So I decided to answer the question of what happens next for Matilda (and other characters though she was my focal character for this project) with my NaNo project. I also explain why Rosalie and Matilda were horrible when Agnes knew them as well as many other things. The Markhams from The Tenant of Wildfell Hall will appear briefly in the story too as well of a boat load of fictional Victorian lesbians and gay men who befriend Matilda as she lives multiple lives across the second half of the 19th century.
I basically reclaimed the Murray girls and rewrote their stories. Is that unhinged of me? Very possibly- especially since they aren’t supposed to be the heroines- but that’s what I’ve been working on this past month along side my grad studies.
#sorry but in my mind Hatfeild was like 30 so this was mega yikes territory#so light him on fire Matilda (not literally but maybe literally)#my horse also thinks you're dumb!#also you have to love the 1800's swears of ass and damn XD#butch feral horsegirl is very much a lost lesbian archetype or historic I guess#Stephen Gordon and Matilda Murray are basically echoes of each other#But Hall is sympathetic because she is basically Stephen#while Bronte gives more of an average Victorian view point of lesbians and gnc women#also it's early victorians (Bronte) vs. late victorians (Hall) too#Thank you Radclyffe Hall for confirming my theory about this being an archetype#nanowrimo 2022#WIP#comics#victorian lit#classic sequels#no I didn't orginally plan to write this but I was like- no actually they're just kids and this was fucked up actually#oh and my story covers Matilda's whole life to show what life was life for queer people and women in the Victorian era#in Agnes Grey Matilda’s pretty dumb it’s Rosalie who does most of the plotting#I wouldn’t say my Tilly is dumb but she’s pretty clueless and naively trusts often when she definitely shouldn’t#she’s booksmart but street dumb if that makes sense#also barn smart because mostly all she knows is horses and dogs#and Rosie’s the opposite she only reads gothic romances to the point where she likes to pretend to live in them#basically they’re both normal teen girls but something happens to trigger the anger and spite#anne bronte#agnes grey

Please tell us about them (I am listening intently)
Tumblr media
BRO OK Im guessing you mean my OC. His name is Tobin Lawsen he's 19 years old currently. He's my first ever OC and I made him with my friends for a Creepypasta AU we made called Creepedverse. BIG PARAGRAPHS WARNING UNDER THE CUT I LOVE YAPPING 🔥 (Also adding on that all the content about Tobin is under my #tomboc tag)
He's canonically shipped with my girlfriends OC Tali Marks and he loves her very much, she's the only person he really cares about and is very protective over her, but he keeps that to himself cuz he knows she can defend herself. He's an arms and narcotics dealer so he makes money through selling illegal drug and weapons. And hes good at it. He's really dumb when it comes to booksmarts, barely knows how to read or do maths, but is very street smart.
Tobins an insensitive asshole and generally uncaring of himself and others. Nothing matters to him. He's also really unserious and bored all the time so he does annoying or stupid shit to entertain himself. He's petty, defensive, mean, likes to joke around and make people laugh or make himself laugh, and also a huge prick. Has a habit of insulting people just to get a rise out of them, he thinks its funny
Besides being a lil jokester and having fun, he's very out of tune with his own emotions. Really emotionally inept. He doesn't feel much of anything besides apathy, anger and joy. Maybe awkwardness or discomfort. Tobin is very very indifferent about a lot of things, he's the definition of this: 😬👍. The things he cares about are the things that actively negatively impact his life. And even then, he's unable to really care about himself or his own wellbeing, just as hes unable to care about everyone else. He has self-respect, and always puts himself first though
He's pretty morbid and vulgar. Very socially inept so he doesn't have any sense of right/wrong, respect for boundaries and doesn't consider whats appropriate to say/do. Always runs his mouth and gets into fights. Off-putting, but not necessarily a horrible guy. Tobin barely has any moral code, but the one he does, he stands up for with his life. He was raised in a way where people who hurt children and women get the shit kicked out of them, and thats the mindset he keeps. Besides this though, he genuinely does not care about whats deemed morally acceptable or not, which makes his job a lot easier. Would befriend a cannibal for fun
Some themes I associate with him are the sun, dogs, peaches, war and fire. Sometimes Ill throw in some rot, religious, or death themes
The general story with him is that he killed his dad with a shotgun and then went on the run with Tali, and they ended up in a fictional town in Alabama called Farnbury. From there, he got Slender Sick and became an unwilling, mostly unaware proxy. He'd wake up in places with no memory of how he got there, blood on his hands, dirt on his jeans. Random nosebleeds, coughing up blood, paranoia, seeing things. It got to the point he starts obsessively looking into the cause of it all, and discovers more and more about Slenderman. He tries his best to get rid of it, and the sickness cuz he hates being controlled and used as a puppet

For the ask game that you just posted!
I would like to see Magritte in 10, 11, 25, 26, 32 and 48 (sorry if it's a bunch of questions I'm just very excited I simp for her)
Tumblr media
More Margie!!
10. Is your character street-smart, book-smart, intelligent, intellectual, slow-witted?
She wouldn't describe herself as smart in any sense. Indeed, she does come off as very ditzy. However, she's resourceful as fuck and, when left to figure things out by her own devices, she is quite a brilliant problem solver. Not only that, but she's a sponge when it comes to learning about things that have engaged her interest. She can pick up on concepts very, very remarkably fast. The problem is, she has a lot of trouble recalling knowledge on the spot, and her inability to narrow her focus or filter out information, etc, leaves her looking like a deer in the headlights more often than not. So at a glance, she does not appear booksmart nor streetsmart, and when she's being watched, it's an endless comedy of errors as she tries to fulfil even the most simple tasks. Which is a tragedy, really...because she's actually quiet brilliant.
11. How do they see themselves: as smart, as intelligent, uneducated?Oh, I kinda just answered this HAHA yeah, no, she thinks she's a total dumbass.
25. What are their hobbies and interests?
Music. Making sounds, mixing sounds, composing tracks, sound engineering, just--audio stuff, any and all audio stuff. She also likes theatre, etc on a hobby level. And hiking, and looking at wild life...and photographing wildlife... for funsies.
26. What does your character’s home look like? Personal taste? Clothing? Hair? Appearance?
Hahaha well, until she met Raf, she was kind of a hobo lmao she couch surfed and stayed at shelters and stuff. And when she did get to stay at a friend's place or w/e, it was never for very long because...uuuh...her domestic habits are not great. Dirty dishes, food wrappers, laundry......she is not a very tidy person...very...messy, in fact. And often completely oblivious to her own mess. Though she has become a little more self conscious about it after having it pointed out to her enough times by enough people. She can never seem to stay on top of her mess, though.
Living with Raf, who IS a very habitually tidy person, they have an...arrangement. Her room is 100% allowed to be as much of a stye as she wants, but the rest of the house needs to be...respected. She's still pretty bad about leaving dishes in the sink unwashed, but she's much better about making sure the living room, etc, are free of her clutter pile-ups and half-empty coffee mugs.
Clothing and hair-wise, Magritte prioritizes comfort over beauty lmao Her hair is always thrown up in a messy bun because it takes her like five minutes, tops, to do. She loves things like sweater dresses and loose fitting clothes...and leggings. Leggings are great because she can get away with not shaving her legs if she just makes sure she throws on a pair of leggings.
32. How does your character react to stress situations? Defensively? Aggressively? Evasively?
Magritte does not get angry. It's very hard to make magritte mad.
Magritte is a frusterated crier. She'll get really sad and withdrawn, and just kinda shut down and avoid the thing until she's ready to deal with it.
48. How are your character’s gestures? Vigorous? Weak? Controlled? Compulsive? Energetic? Sluggish?
She's very energetic, active, big dumb gestures, laughs -too loudly, too often-. Throws her limbs around when excited and often hits people by accident.

Fancast Friday #6: Minor & secondary characters & ocs in It Takes A Village
(names not yet set in stone)
Tumblr media
Nicholas Galtzine as ?? [possibly Max Pollard from the ep 10 memorial plaque]
a loner, pretty much always listening to music, uninvolved in most school extracurriculars (i.e. clubs, teams, parties, etc.) and that’s the way that he likes it; very good at cooking and improvising tasty meals out of odd or limited ingredients and gets dragged into helping Bean out and supervising the jocks for Thanksgiving
Tumblr media
Conor Husting (but preferably how he looked in Boo, Bitch rather than in Ashley Garcia) as ?? [possibly Jose Rodriquez from the ep 10 memorial plaque]
another jock, a football player who ends up a member of the Guard, not noted to be especially smart, certainly not on Grizz’s level, but not as dumb as some of his teammates either, he is friendly and easygoing and particularly popular with those outside of the football/popular crowd because of the way he treats everyone kindly no matter what, not booksmart, somewhat street smart/having common sense, very emotionally intelligent although not usually in a position to display that, he may have more in common with Grizz than either of them would think
Tumblr media
Barrett Carnahan as ?? [possibly Rob Lewis from the ep 10 memorial plaque]
he’s an athlete but not a football player, the kind of guy that despite being skilled at his sport people don’t peg as a jock, he was on the debate team and is really good at making people laugh, friendly with a lot of people but not really close with anyone
Tumblr media
Zoe Colleti as ?? [possibly Brie Lennox from the ep 10 memorial plaque]
in the periphery of Helena’s friend group/the football girlfriends’ group, she always worries about whether people like her or not and thinks over everything she says before she says it, an only child who is very close with her parents, she misses them a lot
Tumblr media
Isabel May as ?? [possibly Cara Abernathy from the ep 10 memorial plaque]
the kind of overachiever who does tennis, debate team and soccer, she struggles with the absence of a highly structured, regimented schedule, has a habit of blurting out her thoughts or feelings in a way that gets read by others as labeling/naming the reaction for everyone even though she doesn’t mean it that way
Tumblr media
Paulina Chávez as ?? [possibly Pamela Rozental from the ep 10 memorial plaque]
I don't have as much for her yet but she's relatively new to West Ham and figuring out where she fits in when the smell appears

Haunts & Hellhounds: A Player’s Handbook
Tumblr media
Hi, Writeblr. :) If you’re joining me on this spooky, whacky adventure that is Haunts & Hellhounds over on Wattpad, here’s a more detailed (albeit very rough) glimpse into the ancient and irreverent “Player’s Handbook” that the characters flip through in Chapter 1! The “game” is basically just a very watered-down version of D&D with horror elements. I may add to this as time goes on if I’ve overlooked anything that pops up as I write the story. If you have any questions or think I’m missing anything important, let me know! I’m very new to tabletop gaming and am still learning the ropes. This whole project is basically just a way for me to combine my love of writing horror stories with D&D practice (as both the GM and the player).
Just a content warning--the fictional creator of H&H was a huge, racist, sexist douchebag who leaned heavily into some very problematic horror tropes when writing the rules of this game, so there are some descriptions of the characters that may be offensive. H&H is intended for mature audiences, 18+! It’s a horror story. There is violence, gore, and murder.
Anyway, I’m using this unpolished “handbook” to guide every single action and reaction in every single scene of the story.
Who will die? Who will survive? Even I don’t know! It’s all in the hands of the dice gods...
Welcome to Haunts & Hellhounds, Survivors...
Instead of classes, H&H players choose their role from a list of 7 classic horror movie tropes, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
The Nerd: Proficiences: With an inclination towards knowledge, the LVL 1 Nerd will be proficient in ALL knowledge-related skills (EXCEPT FOR INSIGHT, because Nerds may like to read books, but they aren’t usually good at reading the room), and their attribute specializations are knowledge and dexterity. These scrawny losers tend to be weak and clumsy, however, and will always roll attack, athletic, and acrobatic checks at a disadvantage. Unlike the other tropes, Nerds can never take the average Hit Points of their hit die upon leveling up; they must roll a d6 (plus their constitution modifier), and whatever the result, they must always subtract 2 from the total (yes--that means, depending on their constitution modifier, it is possible to roll at a loss, because Nerds are just unable to endure these horrific scenarios for very long). If you’re a Nerd, you’re likely to die in a moment of lapsed judgment, foolish enough to believe that if you’re just brave enough you might defeat the evil once and for all and get the girl. Silly Nerd; good guys never win.
The Jock: Proficiencies: Meat-head jerks like the Jock specialize in strength, dexterity, charisma, and constitution, with skills in athletics, acrobatics, and an additional dexterity- or charisma-related skill for a total of 3; additionally, they can choose proficiency in the weapon of their choice, either ranged or melee. They are often too dumb to string a coherent sentence together, and thus roll knowledge checks at a disadvantage. A Jock’s starting defense points are the base 15 plus their constitution modifier, and if they are wearing sports gear, they add 2 more points per piece of gear to their total defense. Their beginning HP is 18 plus their constitution modifier. If you’re a Jock, you’re stupidly confident, you’ll probably get all the girls, but you’re going to charge into battle knowing that you’ll die a heroic, sacrificial death. Thing is, you care more for glory than logic or organized progress. Ah, well. You served your purpose.
The Party Animal: Everybody likes the party animal. Proficiencies: Charisma is this character’s number one attribute, and thanks to the dulling effects of whatever illegal substances they’ve pumped into their body, they have a surprisingly high endurance and are thus proficient in constitution as well; as far as skills go, they are proficient in deception and persuasion, and may choose one other skill for a total of 3, as long as it is not a dexterity-related skill. Why, you ask? Well, that’s because when the Party Animal rolls dexterity-saving throws, they always roll at a disadvantage, as they are likely too drunk or high to walk in a straight line. And so they cannot be proficient in any dexterity-related skills. As the Party Animal, you might make it close to the end through sheer, dumb luck. But that luck will run out and you will die eventually. It’s inevitable. Lucky for you, you’re probably too wasted to care.
The Harlot: The Harlot has a reputation too, but not for anything good. Proficiencies: Like the Party Animal, the Harlot’s number one attribute is charisma, and since she’s usually tiny, she is proficient in dexterity as well; also like the Party Animal, her skills include deception and persuasion, and she may choose one other skill for a total of 3, so long as it is not related to knowledge. You guessed it--that’s because there isn’t much going on in that pretty little head of hers. She’s dumb. Even dumber than the Jock. Vapid. Shallow. All of her knowledge checks are rolled at a disadvantage. So you picked the Harlot. The only thing standing between you and the killer is a Token Minority. Hope the premarital sex was worth it.
The Token Minority: Why did you even bother creating this character? The Token Minority is basically cannon fodder and will likely be the first to die. There may be only one Token Minority per group of survivors. Proficiencies: Pick whatever two attributes, and one skill you want for this character. Who cares? The only rule is that whatever d6 results you get rolling for your attributes, the lowest goes to constitution, and all constitution saving throws are made at a disadvantage. You won’t be playing very long as the Token Minority, so why waste time creating a whole backstory? Have fun being the first to die.
The Recluse: The Recluse is basically a stronger Nerd. All that time spent on the outside of the social jungle has allowed this character to become well-versed in all things weird and macabre. Proficiencies: He or she will have a knack for dexterity, knowledge, and serenity; able to keep calm in the most horrific situations and plan ahead because they know the horror genre inside and out, the Recluse is always proficient in arcana/witchcraft and sanity; at LVL 1 they may also choose an additional 2 skills that fall under the dexterity or knowledge branches. Like the Token Minority, there may be only one Recluse per group of survivors. As the Recluse, you’re likely to become BFFs with the Final Girl and tragically die just before the story’s end. Pity. If you were just more milquetoast like the Final Girl, you might have made it to the end, but alas, the audience couldn’t stomach your obnoxious need to "stand out from the herd.”
The Final Girl: The star of our show. The well-rounded goody-two-shoes. Like the Token Minority and the Recluse, there may only be one Final Girl per group of survivors. In fact, there MUST be a Final Girl in every game. At LVL1, her HP begins at 18 plus her dexterity modifier. When she rolls her 4d6 to determine her base stats at LVL1, she should discard any result lower than a 10 and roll again. Proficiencies: She is proficient in all attributes and all weapon types and can choose any 10 skills from the list of 19. All of her attack rolls, checks, and death saving throws are rolled at an advantage. If you’re playing the Final Girl, you’re nearly as immortal as the unkillable slasher. You’re guaranteed to survive... almost... every time. So long as you follow the rules of the genre.
Attributes: Much like D&D5e, there are 6 attributes in H&H. If a character is proficient in specific attributes, they roll saving throws of those attributes at advantage. The attributes are:
Strength, measuring physical fitness
Dexterity, measuring agility
Constitution, measuring health and endurance
Knowledge, measuring booksmarts, street smarts, and common sense
Serenity, measuring calmness and sanity
Charisma, measuring popularity, confidence, and charm
To determine the character’s numeric value of these attributes, roll 4d6, drop the lowest result, and add the remaining 3 together. Do this 6 times (1 for each attribute), and assign numbers where you feel they would be best. It is recommended you assign the highest numbers to the attributes your character is proficient in.
Skills: There are 19 Skills in H&H, each related to a specific attribute. Similar to attributes, if a character is proficient in a skill, they roll checks of those skills at advantage. Please see your trope’s description to see how many skills you may choose:
Acrobatics (Dex)
Alchemy & Chemistry (Kno)
Animal Handling (Cha)
Arcana & Witchcraft (Ser)
Athletics (Str)
Crafting (Dex)
Deception (Cha)
History & Lore (Kno)
Insight (Kno)
Intimidation & Distraction (Cha)
Investigation (Kno)
Perception (Ser)
Persuasion (Cha)
Religion & Occultism (Kno)
Sanity (Ser)
Sleight of Hand (Dex)
Stealth (Dex)
Survival (Kno)
Technology (Kno)
Proficiency Bonuses: All LVL1 characters start with a +2 proficiency bonus, meaning if they roll a check of an attribute or skill they are proficient in, they add 2 to their total roll. Proficiency bonus for all characters increases by 1 point every odd level--so at LVL3 it will be +3, at LVL5 it will be +4, etc. NOTE: Unlike other tabletop games, H&H only uses proficiency bonuses in skill rolls, NOT in attacks/hits; for example, if a character is making a dexterity saving throw and they are proficient in dexterity, they will add their proficiency bonus to that roll, but even if they are proficient in firearms, they will NOT add their proficiency bonus to attack or hit rolls in combat with a firearm. Combat proficiencies simply allow the character to roll attacks with those weapons at an advantage.
Attribute Modifiers: Your character’s attribute modifiers are used to give them a boost during attack rolls, saving throws, and checks. To determine your character’s H&H attribute modifier, subtract 10 from that attribute’s total, divide by 2, and round down. For example, if a character has 15 constitution, subtract 10 (5), divide by 2 (2.5), and round down (2)--which means, when rolling a constitution saving throw, the character would add +2 to whatever they roll.
Skill Modifiers: Skills also have modifiers. If a character is NOT proficient in a certain skill, their modifier is equal to the attribute modifier that skill falls under. For example, a Jock is not proficient in insight, a skill that falls under knowledge. So if the Jock’s knowledge modifier is +1, so is his insight modifier. If a character IS proficient in a skill, add their proficiency bonus plus the modifier of the attribute the skill falls under. So, for example, Jocks are proficient in the athletics skill. At LVL1 with a +2 proficiency bonus and a +3 strength modifier, the Jock would have a total of +5 for his athletics modifier.
Hit Points & Hit Die: Your LVL1 character’s maximum HP is always 18, except for Jocks and the Final Girl, who add their constitution and dexterity modifiers respectively. For every level after that, additional HP will be determined by a roll of the character’s highest unarmed hit die. Jocks and the Final Girl will roll a d10 as their hit (unarmed) die. Recluses, Token Minorities, Harlots, and Party Animals use d8, and Nerds use d6. The Nerd must ALWAYS roll their hit die to determine their new HP upon leveling up, and then must subtract 2 from the total. Every other character can opt not to roll the die, but to take the average roll of their die instead (d10=5, d8=4). Every EVEN level, the character adds a hit die (so LVL2=2d10 for a Jock, LVL4=2d10, and so on). In battle, ranged weapons such as firearms are rolled with a d10 plus the character’s dexterity modifier; melee weapons such as bats are rolled with a d10 plus the character’s strength modifier. *Note: Jocks, the Final Girl, and any character with a proficiency in weapons roll a d12 as their hit die if they are armed.* Upon a short rest, half HP is restored. Upon a long rest, full HP is restored. Characters may also eat food, drink water, bandage and tend wounds, or use a health potion to speed up the healing process if they have the necessary supplies in their pockets or backpack. If used during battle, consumption of these healing items count as a bonus action.
Defense Stat: If we were playing another tabletop RPG, this would be your character’s “Armor Class.” All characters except for the Jock, the Final Girl, and the Recluse start with a base defense of 15. The Jock and the Final Girl begin with the base 15 and add their constitution modifier, while the Recluse adds their dexterity modifier. Upon leveling up, the defense stat DOES NOT increase. (The exception is for the Recluse, Final Girl, and Jock, who CAN increase their defense stat if they increase their respective modifiers upon leveling up.) Defense stats can be increased at any time in one of 3 ways: (1) if a character dons armor (i.e. helmets, sports gear, even duct tape to defend against zombie bites, etc.--+1 defense per piece of armor [helmet, torso guard, arm guards, leg guards, gloves, boots] for every character except the Jock, who gets +2 per piece of armor), (2) if a character crouches behind cover (+2 defense), or (3) if a character takes up a shield (+2 defense). There are also some magical artifacts that can increase a character’s defense stat, both temporarily and permanently.
Sanity Points: In addition to traditional HP, H&H characters have sanity points. Everyone begins with a base of 20 Sanity Points, except for the Recluse and the Final Girl, who begin with 23. At the end of every hellish battle, all playable characters involved must make a sanity saving throw with a d20 plus their serenity modifier. If they roll 10-19, they are safe and do not lose or gain any SP. If they roll a natural 20, they permanently gain 4SP, even if they go above their original maximum. If they roll 2-9 or lower, they must roll a d4 to determine how many SP they lose. If they roll a natural 1, they automatically lose 4SP. If a character’s sanity falls to 0, they must roll a sanity d20+serenity modifier check along with every attack roll against an enemy. If they roll a sanity check below a 5, there is a chance of friendly fire and/or self harm that turn. The player rolls a d20 against all characters within 5 feet of them, including themselves; if they roll greater than the target’s defense stat, the insane character lashes out in blind fear and must roll a hit die against their nearby allies and/or themselves as if attacking an enemy. Sanity points cannot be regained during rests. Anxiety medications and certain potions may provide relief, if you can find them.
Death Saving Throws: Like other tabletop RPGs, H&H uses the 3-strike strategy. Upon reaching 0HP, you become unconscious and must make 3 attempts to cling to life. Roll a d20 with NO modifiers. Rolling a 10 or more is a success; anything below 10 is a failure. If you roll 3 successes, your character remains unconscious but alive, and it is up to your companions to get you back up on your feet by offering you a nourishing sip of water (+1HP), or tending your wounds (+3HP), or giving you a health potion (+5HP), or using a healing spell (regained HP varies depending on spell); if you roll 3 failures, you die a permanent death. If you roll a natural 20, your character reawakens with 1HP. If you roll a natural 1, you take 2 failure strikes. BEWARE: Some enemies have the ability to “double tap” and make sure you are really, truly dead on their next turn. It is in everyone’s best interest to work as a team and distract the enemy once a friend is down...
Rolling at Advantage and Disadvantage: When a character is asked to roll checks or attacks at “advantage” or “disadvantage,” they roll 2d20 and take either the higher of the 2 rolls (advantage) or the lower (disadvantage).
Extra Proficiencies: Aside from the skills and attributes above, your characters may have other specialties depending on their role and backstory. For example, Jocks are proficient in firearms, and the Final Girl, known for being quick on her feet and good at improvising, is proficient in all weapons. Your characters’ backstory may lead them to have certain training in useful foreign languages or subjects. For example: -Latin -Folklore and Mythology -Engineering -Driving -Herbology -And more The possibilities are endless. Choose whatever you think might help your characters get out of sticky situations. However, to prevent your character from becoming too much of an overpowered know-it-all, limit these additional proficiencies to a total of 5. As there are no hard and fast rules to these extra proficiencies, the GM and the player must often collaborate to determine how this additional feature will benefit the player. For example, perhaps the GM and the player decide that being an Art Student grants the character a +1 bonus to crafting tools and weapons.
Magic: Depending on the dungeon you play, magic may factor into your story. Characters with a proficiency in arcana & witchcraft are able to learn spells, curses, and hexes in books they may find from vendors or when they loot enemies’ bodies. When a character unlocks magical abilities, they receive a spell attack stat to be used in magical attack rolls; the spell attack is their proficiency bonus plus their serenity modifier (so a LVL1 character with a +2 proficiency bonus and a +3 serenity modifier would have a total of +5 spell attack power). When using magic in battle, roll a d20 plus the character’s strength modifier to determine if the spell strikes its target. If the strike is successful, the spell’s damage is determined by rolling a d10 plus the character’s spell attack bonus. Healing spells do NOT require the player to roll a d20 to check if their spell reaches its target. Each healing spell has unique requirements, such as being a certain distance from your companion, or rolling a specific die to determine how much HP is restored, but it will always be successful. There are many different kinds of spells, from mind control to healing magic, but the character using the spell does not need to choose a specialization. As long as they have a proficiency in arcana & witchcraft, they may use any spell they stumble upon if they think it will help. However, magically-inclined characters do have a limited supply of magical points, or MP. Each spell costs a certain number of MP, and when that MP runs out, the character must resort to physical attacks against an enemy. Half MP is restored upon a short rest, and full MP after a long rest. MP potions may also be purchased from vendors or looted from enemies. MP increases like HP; upon unlocking magic, the character begins with 15MP, and upon leveling up, they must roll their hit die to determine how much their MP will increase. Oh, and the magically-inclined may want to seek out an animal familiar. Having a little friend along for the ride will double your MP total.
Experience Points: After every battle, survivors will gain experience points along with anything else they loot off the enemy’s body. Players reach LVL2 at 200EXP, and levels rise exponentially after that every time the character’s total EXP is doubled. For example: LVL2 - 200 points LVL3 - 400 points LVL4 - 800 points LVL5 - 1600 points ...and so on. Upon leveling up, a character may opt to either choose 1 new ability (see below) or add 2 points to their attributes. The latter is especially useful if a character’s beginning attributes are below 10.
Abilities: Each character starts at LVL1 with 2 abilities unique to them. These are special attacks, bonus attacks, spells, and battle maneuvers that have notable conditions that set them apart from regular attacks, such as the ability to knock an enemy prone. Every time the character levels up, they gain 1 more ability. See the appendix for a full list. The GM may also add abilities specific to individual players as he sees fit. (For example, a character who plays a sport that is not listed under the Jock abilities may be given an ability unique to that sport.)
Inventory: Characters can carry either: (1) one or two small weapons, (2) one medium weapon and a shield (one per hand), or (3) one large two-handed weapon. Additionally, they may carry as much loot as they have pockets. If they have 0 pockets, they may carry 0 additional small objects, if they have 2 pockets, they may carry 2 small objects, etc. (Cargo shorts, though hideous, do come in pretty handy here!) Characters may also find backpacks to increase their inventory size. Backpacks have a carry capacity of 5 small objects and 3 medium to large objects. Holsters, sheaths, and belt loops can also be used to store additional weapons if the character finds any.
The Safe Room: Every dungeon must have at least one safe room where the characters can rest, heal, interact with vendors (if there are any), and plan their next moves. Enemies are not allowed to enter these rooms. (The GM can decide why this is the case in a way that best fits the dungeon's lore. For example, perhaps the room is protected by a powerful spell, blessed by a priest, or simply locked and barricaded.)
Act Wisely...: Certain actions will act like echo-location for enemies. If your character opts to do any of the following during roleplay, the nearest enemy--whether they are a mere minion or a boss--will suddenly appear. (If the act occurs in a safe room, don't be surprised to find an enemy waiting just outside the door for you.) Do NOT: (1) drink alcohol or do drugs (2) have sex or undress (3) steal, vandalize, or otherwise break the law (4) let your cell phone ring or vibrate You’ve been warned...
Have fun--while you still can.

happy storyteller saturday! out of all of your characters, who’s the stereotypical ‘smartest’? what are some of the others intelligence types? thank you! - llesbianwrites
YO THIS IS A COOL QUESTION
I love thinking about the different intelligence types! It’s partly why I hesitate so much on describing someone as “smart”, because even my “dumb” characters are still remarkably intelligent through unconventional ways~
Most stereotypically smart would probably be The Scientist (who’s a literal scientist, yes), Dione, Celestine, and Captain Io!
Though I can’t speak much as to why The Scientist is, Dione is constantly researching magic and writing in general, really a good personification of “booksmart” and also quite clever with figuring out puzzles. Celestine builds machines based on an understanding of magic and physics, as well as generally being incredibly street smart and capable of understanding more complex concepts. Io’s not much of a writer, but she certainly reads a lot and has an encyclopedia-like breadth of knowledge, as well as performing marvelously in her studies when she was younger. She’s also very quick-witted, and uses this to her advantage in both swordplay and wordplay.
So... logical-mathematical for all four and linguistic for Io and Dione, but severely lacking in inter- and intrapersonal for all of them.
If we’re following the 9 intelligences from Howard Gardener, here’s who I attribute most to each (this is long, so under the cut!):
Naturalist (nature smart): Dione and George both have remarkable connection to their natural environments and a significant understanding of how it works~
Musical (sound smart): Colin!! Colin has both perfect pitch and an extreme skill with playing the fiddle! (Plus some other instruments, too~)
Logical-mathematical (number/reasoning smart): Dione, Captain Io, Celestine, The Scientist. Explained above. ^^ Also Sindre but I can’t explain that because spoilers.
Existential (life smart): Uhhhhh... George...? Maybe? He’s very chill about stuff, and is capable of being philosophical about stuff without it overwhelming him.
Interpersonal (people smart): COLIN. Phoenix and George are also really socially adept! Technically Rose too because she’s really good at manipulating people. ^^’
Bodily-kinesthetic (body smart): Captain Io with her quick reflexes and strategic sword fighting. Isabel with swordfighting and general physical activity. Rose is exceedingly flexible, incredibly skilled with climbing and fighting. Celestine is also remarkably skilled kinesthetically: parkour and sword fighting as well~
Linguistic (word smart): Dione, Captain Io, The Scientist. Colin is also fitting here because, despite his dyslexia, he’s very creative with his words and can understand a lot of complex terms, while also being skilled with storytelling in a comprehensive and engaging manner.
Intra-personal (self smart): Phoenix and George are probably the best here, but to be honest, pretty much all of my characters are terrible at understanding themselves. ^^’
Spatial (picture smart): Colin, Phoenix, Captain Io, Isabel, Rose, Sindre. All sailors so it makes sense in that respect. Best would likely be Captain Io and Sindre, though: both are absolutely remarkable in how well they can keep track of where they are, like they have a built-in compass. And though Io would never ever reveal this, both of them are insanely skilled with image manipulation (art ‘n stuff) and mental imagery!
Interesting how my most commonly thought of “dumb” character Colin fits the most intelligences~
WHOO THAT GOT LONG SORRY. I JUST REALLY LOVE THIS ASK. Thank you for sending it in!!

April Activities
April is one of the best months. It’s still cool enough to have my winter blanket on the bed, but warm enough to maybe go out without a coat. Nothing is better. Sorry about the weather-talk, but it’d be insane of me not to mention it’s so beautiful out. Onto this month’s happenings! So many things took place!
Firstly, the big news. We’ve moved! Only a few streets away, but into a waaaaay better apartment. It’s almost a joke how much better it is. We were coming from a basement apartment, so pretty much anything above ground floor would impress us, but there are a hundred little details about our new place that I’m in love with. So crazy thankful and happy with it all. We’re still getting settled into the place, but I’m planning on doing a post about all the little things I’m doing to it with the decor and storage and boring things (but oh so fun to me) like that, so keep an eye out for that post coming out most likely before the end of the month. So excited to get this place homey and lovely.
I went to a Rapters game at the Barclays Center and whoa, it was a dumb amount of fun. Nathan met someone in the audience at one of his shows who works at Barclays and got him a few VIP tickets (fifth row from court side!) and it was pretty incredible. There was tons of free food (shriiiiimp!) and soft serve ice cream and beef tenderloin and fancy water and free snacks, it was the best. I could list all the food specifics here, but I don’t want to seem like a dick who thinks she’s better than you (but might be?).
I went to the Glossier flagship store again to try this highlighter aaaaand it was pretty basic, so that was disappointing. I also tried their Boy Brow again and I think that yes, it is a good product. Although is it worth $16? Not sure. I’m still considering Benefit’s mini version for $12, so that’s likely the next eyebrow product I’ll buy/try.
I treated myself and bought the full size version of Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask (which is HUGE and should last me eight hundred years) as well as a new Fenty sponge because my old sponge was beginning to look nasty.
I tried the new basil foaming hand soap from Trader Joe’s because that’s an amazing idea for a scent. But the quality of the bottle itself is so cheap, it makes an awful squeaking sound when you use it. Don’t buy.
Loving these two songs lately.
Yes, I hate receiving foundation samples. You know this. That being said, I tried the one from Yves Saint Laurent and even though it was the wrong colour for me, it felt crazy nice and moisturizing on my skin. I can see why people go so crazy for this product. I still won’t buy it because I don’t really love wearing foundation, but maybe one day when I believe that foundation makes a difference?
I tried the Smile Foot Mask from The Face Shop and HOLY SHIT. It’s good enough that you can ignore the creepy baby feet on the packaging. And I mean, my feet are pretty well taken care of already, but this was some next-level shit. Definitely keeping this one in the rotation.
I know that I told you I was going to start taking collagen, but with the move I slacked a little so I don’t want to comment on it yet. I’m gonna start it again and take it on a daily basis starting tomorrow so I will definitely have thoughts on it this time next month.
Love this meme.

I went to Niagara Falls with my family and it was the best. Just a ton of fun.

I started watching Schitt’s Creek and it’s pretty good so far. I only saw about five episodes, but that’s enough to have an opinion, yeah? I want to watch more, but those Frasier reruns aren’t gonna watch themselves.
Watched The Bye Bye Man and wooooooof, it was rough.
I also watched Crazy Rich Asians and it was great! I’d wanted to see it for awhile and it was just a fun movie. A friend of mine accidentally called it Crazy Sexy Asians and it made me laugh, but that’s a way better title. I love, love, love Elvis’ version of this song, so whenever it gets covered, I’ll love it to pieces. Also, the wedding scene? With the water? Jesus! So nice. Even watching it now makes me teary, it’s so beautiful.
Ate at The Cactus Club with the lovely Marla for her birthday (!) and it was goooood. The short rib pappardelle? Heavenly.
One of my favourite recipes that I haven’t been able to make for awhile since I used to live in a place WITH NO OVEN is this baked pickles one. Just made it last night and still holds up. So tasty.
There’s an upcoming lantern festival in Mississauga that I just heard about on August 10th that seems pretty lovely.
Have you ever tried chocolate mint coffee before? We just got some beans from a place near us and made some this morning and I was jacked for about three hours. Really tasty, I just don’t understand how a person could drink coffee every day.
I was in need of a fancy dress so I went to Burlington in Union Square and was shocked at how nice/inexpensive everything was. I got a Calvin Klein dress (that I later returned because I’m CLASSY) for $40! Such a great place. Easier to browse than Century 21, for SURE.
The reason I needed that fancy dress? I WENT TO THE OPENING NIGHT OF THE BEETLEJUICE MUSICAL! And it was incredible. I have a friend who’s in the ensemble and graciously invited me and it was everything. I’ve never been to an opening night before and the air was electric. Such a fun time. I met Richard Kind at the after party and gushed about Clifford for approx. two minutes before he ran away.
Really enjoyed the new Lizzo album, the best songs are definitely Like A Girl and Soulmate.
I tried the relatively new chicken pieces from Shake Shack and there’s literally NOTHING DANNY MEYER CAN DO WRONG. They’re delicious, obviously.
I had no idea that The Strand will buy your old books. Amazing.
There are no Home Sense stores in the States (as far as I know), which sucks. But I came across Home Goods on the Upper West Side (thank you for the suggestion Harmeet!) and even though it’s really not as good, it’s actually okay. I appreciate the attempt of them trying to be a Home Sense.
I went to the new Rec Room in Square One and it was pretty good, I thought. Obviously you need to walk in with a full wallet, but I mean… it’s something to do? It’s pretty much Playdium with better food.
And that was April! Some things to look out for in next month’s roundup: highlights from Tianna’s visit to NYC, I’m going to a screening of Booksmart, and I swear I’ll do that apartment post. Honestly that’s the only thing I’m really, really looking forward to - I love this new place so much. Thanks for reading!

Wedding Sabotage au Feat. Laurent and Nik teaming up
This is an outline of like????,,, one scene and yep lemme kno if u actaully would want this bc lmaoo......*wears sunglasses to hide the tears*
Auguste and Damen grew up together as friends and had brought the families together after a long time of low-key petty rivalry. Laurent grew up with Damen but was much younger than both Damen and Auguste. Damen had all the qualities of a hero from his books (that and he was *que 11 year old blushing smaurent* “super pretty”). Well this crush never went away, to Laurent’s dismay, because he knew Damen would always see him as a little kid.
Laurent was 19, turning 20, and finally going to try and tell Damen his feelings. To which gets stopped dead in his tracks when he comes home and Damen is there, sweetly tipsy with a beautiful blonde on his arm.
Laurent is very bitter, and after two years he is, how do you say, extremely bitter.
Laurent is at the engagement party for Damen and Jokaste.
He is standing next to Auguste, in a circle of party goers who are all celebrating and congratulating Damen
Laurent is in a particularly foul mood
Nikandros who is also in this small circle of “assholes” (as he would put it) he is also a very bitter best friend
Anyways Damen leaves to go find Jokaste (she walked away to talk to other guests or something) and he kisses Laurent on the cheek before leaving and drags Auguste with him
Laurent’s mood worsens,,,, he gotta fight w someone and Nik is the closest victim
Ahh Nik and Laurent what a relationship they have had
Nik has always been Damen’s like,, bff, and Laurent was more of a nuisance than anything
He was rude, uncaring of Nik, and would steal Damen away if given the opportunity. Nik knew he was a smart kid, but he was a snake
Laurent starts picking fights with Nik “Has Damen decided best man? I bet he has. It’s not you, his wedding needs to maintain sophistication and not have some poor, bankrupt businessman’s son represent the esteemed Theomedes name” or some rude bullshit like that
“Well I’ll just have to make sure you sit in the back Laurent, wouldn’t want a jealous, insecure child interrupting such an esteemed wedding”
A verbal (and very cruel) fight ensues
Laurent’s uncle comes up placing his hand on Laurent’s shoulder as is like “Laurent don’t make such a scene. These actions are why forming relationships with you is so difficult.” ((fuck the regent 5ever))
Laurent needs to breathe and heads to the restroom that’s in a separate hallway of Damen’s luxurious mansion
At the bathrooms he hears Jokaste and Kastor speaking in hushed tones so he creeps up to listen in and theyre standing very close
Staying stuff like “I know you’re upset, calm down, baby I’m handling this okay? This will work out if we stick with the plan and I marry Damen-” u kno crap like that and Laurent is like ‘this bitch wtf tryna fuck w my man aw hell nah’ but in a more laurent way
He’s actually really upset for Damen
He heads back to the party and is walking through the crowd, trying to find Damen
He gets turned around and is back where he came out that hallway and makes eye contact with Jokaste who was walking out with Kastor
His eyes narrow and Jokaste tries to keep her best poker face and goes over to talk to Laurent who is stiff
It’s one thing to fight with Nik, Damen knew they didn’t get along and he more saw it as harmless bickering, it was another to fight with Jokaste, and while Laurent had the tongue of a viper, Jokaste had the tongue of Laurent, but a mind similar to his Uncle’s (in the sense of control and manipulation) and she has six years of street smarts.
(I see Damen/Jokaste/Nik as all very street smart while Laurent is booksmart, which to me makes sense bc Laurent didn’t have a lot of social interaction when he was a teenager, besides manipulation and abuse)
But Damen appears out of nowhere, and Laurent can feel his heart hurt bc he spent 10 minutes looking for him, but when Jokaste appeared he was there, instantly, and Laurent couldn’t help but wonder what it was like to have someone like Damen love him. Being greeted with smiles and eyes full of love.
Now he was just pissed (both at Jokaste for ruining a good thing and at himself for having a dumb thought that anyone would love him even a fraction of what Damen felt for Jokaste)
Nik was at the lavish bar and his drink (a straight shot of Vodka) was set down, only to be lifted up and thrown back by Laurent who sat down
Que Nik’s super offended and annoyed with Laurent face (yes Laurent has earned his very own countenance on Nikandros’ face) (he’s almost proud)
“ You can’t hold your liquor, Laurent” “you can’t hold a relationship but I don’t say anything”
Anyways they start talking and slowly they both realize they don’t want Damen to marry Jokaste
“We break them up”
“You can’t be serious, Laurent”
“She isn’t good for him and we both know she’s fucking Kastor.”
“and Damen would never listen to us.”
Laurent nods and this “And he would never listen to us. Too blinded by loyalty and love. A dog won’t listen when you tell him to bite their owner even if their owner beats them.”
“Too loyal.” Laurent nods again at this and they’ve both relaxed together, probably for the first time forever. “I don’t want to hurt Damen. I just...want to protect him”
“Jokaste will hurt him.”
“So we’re forced to choose what kind of hurt he feels?”
“Not forced. We’re in the trolley dilemma. Let one person get hit or five?”
“Who does Damen represent? The one or the five?”
Laurent doesn’t have an answer for this. What he does know is that he needs to stop the wedding and end the engagement. But, he can’t do it alone, without Nikandros. (He could but the risk of failure or getting caught diminishes with Nikandros)
Laurent orders two shots, him and Nik hold them up to each other. A serious countenance on both their faces “To Damen,” Laurent says.
“To Damen,” and they hit their glasses together and throw back the vodka
Wedding Sabotage au---engagement party part 2ish??
Damen comes over, drunk and happy at the engagement party and drapes himself over Nik, making kissy faces, trying to kiss him because “c’mere Nikky I love you so much”
“Damen hi” Nikandros is tense and Laurent gives him the look, u kno the one that’s like ‘if you dont relax i’ll make u and it won’t be pleasant’
“I saw you guys throw some cheers and drink,” Damen is only slightly slurring, swaying, and doesn’t seem to want to go away anytime soon. “How could you without me?”
“We through cheers to you kiddo”
“To me?” Damen lets out a giggle along with a dopey grin. “You guys are,” Damen presses his face into Nik’s ((I have Nik and Damen headcanoned as affectionate in the same way that girls traditionally are)) “the greatest.”
Damen takes a breath and stares at Laurent while resting his face against Nikandros, who is holding him up and patting his shoulder
Laurent: “What, Damen?” his words are tense
“Nothing. I enjoy the feeling I get when I look at you”
Laurent’s brain is like: skjkdsfgjdfshbgdjvhdj,hbd
Sorry no, its more like: SJKSGDJHGHGJHGHFDHDJGDGHKDSJH
So he just doesn’t reply and turns away and Damen is just like “remember when you were a kid? Like seven, and you would beg for me to pick you up but once you were up you refused to be put back down?”
And laurent is like ‘oh my god are you really going to do this now??’ but he just looks back over at damen with furrowed eyebrows damen is just like
“You’re gonna find someone whose gonna want to pick you up and never put you down. Just like Auguste and I.”
And Laurent is now very done with life and getting hit w a bus doesnt seem all too bad so he goes to leave
But laurent is petty and lives for drama
So of course b4 he goes
He gracefully strides up to Nik and Damen, Damen smiles
Laurent grabs Nikandros’ face with one hand (Nik is wide eyed but cant do nothing cause his hands are full) and says seductively “My place at eight, tomorrow” and strides out of the mansion
As soon as he exits though he feels sick and hurt and wants to puke so he texts Auguste who comes out immediately “do you want me to stay home with you?” “No just drive me home and go back to the party. I need to be alone”
MEANWHILE lmao Damen is like “hahahaha thats *eye twitch* interesting ummm Nik???? That Laurent would say thay hahaa r u going on a date or soemthing?????”
And Nik is like “uuuuhhh maybe?” bc he is like ‘is this part of the plan or????’
Damen is NOT jealous
Except that he is and is no longer in the mood for cuddles
Damen “im not jealous but ummm, excuse me sweetie :) u cant date laurent”
Nik is just ????????
wants to go home he can’t handle these children and is very tired
