Headcanon #280

Rouge’s relationship with Amy was vitriolic from the start, at best. She saw Amy as an immature child who threw bad temper tantrums--not for no reason--and her views didn’t change for years. Once Shadow started taking an interest in Amy, though, Rouge didn’t have much of a choice: personal vendetta aside, her best friend was showing an interest in dating for once, and supporting him came first.

Rouge started letting Amy join Team Dark on missions. She originally did so because of how happy Shadow got whenever she joined them, but Rouge found herself asking for Amy’s help more often than she could’ve anticipated once it was clear how well she fit in with the team. Amy had great chemistry with Shadow, on and off the battlefield. She was one of the few who automatically treated Omega as a person and not just a machine, and he adored her for it--and for her ability to annihilate badniks, of course. Before Amy joined the team, Rouge never would have pegged her for a G.U.N. agent, but she already had all the skills she needed. Strength. Speed. Mobility. Tracking. Invisibility. Cleverness. She had it all.

This didn’t magically fix their rocky relationship, of course. Amy never forgot all the times Rouge had taunted and talked down to her when she was younger. Amy was nothing if not forgiving, though, and age had cooled her temper. Once Rouge started treating her as the adult she was, things settled down.

The biggest turning point came when Rouge’s wing got seriously injured and she had to sit out on a mission. She figured they wouldn’t make much headway; she loved her boys, of course, but they were frankly kind of hopeless and easily distracted without her guidance. They usually got bogged down fighting anything they came across when Rouge wasn’t there to steer them back in the right direction.

She was proven wrong by the end of the day. Not only had they completed their mission, but they had done so in record time, all because Amy had stepped up to lead. She was modest about it, too. Shadow did all the bragging for her, ranting and raving about how great of a leader she’d been. Rouge set aside her jealousy over that and peeked at Amy as she just sat politely, quietly watching Shadow with pride and fondness as he sang her praises. Rouge scratched her chin and considered it. She’d only ever seen Amy defer to others’ leadership, whether it be Sonic’s, Sally’s, or her own, but she had successfully led Team Rose in the past, and she had confidence, resourcefulness, and optimism where it counted.

Rouge reminded herself that she wasn’t getting any younger and took a look at her wing--the one that hadn’t healed quite right and likely never would--and she made a decision.

For the next year or so, Rouge subtly guided Amy into a more leadership-oriented position on the team. She showed Amy the ropes and let her give the orders for portions of missions. Amy already naturally stepped up as the leader whenever Rouge was out, and the team was stronger than ever for it.

Once she knew Amy was ready, Rouge stepped down from field work and took a more administrative role at G.U.N. With her charisma, she was easily able to climb her way up the ranks and start making some positive change in the organization. Once Commander Towers retired, she was able to turn G.U.N. in an entirely new direction, rooting out corruption wherever she found it and working alongside Sonic and friends so they’d be on the right side of history.

Of course, leaving Amy to lead Team Dark wasn’t entirely selfless of her. Rouge’s new salary was much higher, and it left her more time and energy to hunt down the jewels she loved so much. She also eliminated a rule forbidding team members to become romantically involved with each other, casually calling it “outdated” when she was asked about it. With all the rules she’d changed, most people shrugged it off.

Two hedgehogs and a combat robot knew the real reason.

Ok i HAVE thought about Omega, but not metal

Good news!! Omegas been with Shadow! He and Shadow stuck together after rouge, and the rest of the group all had passed away and/or gone their seperate ways. They traveled together, keeping track of villains and the chaos emeralds and occasionally saving the world as the situation demanded it. I havent thought about individual events in detail though. Mostly theyve been seeing the sights though, theyre both always on the hunt for a challenge following Eggmans death and Sonics' disappearance. Shadows done a really good job of keeping Omega in peak condition, doing maintenance and all that, butttt the bad news is that a lot of the parts that Omega needs no longer exist. As of right now he's deactivated and Shadows been on the hunt for an essential part that he needs to replace. He'll come in officially sooner or later when i figure out whens a good time to bring him in

Metal is a different story i HAVENT thought about him. Probably went haywire afyer Eggman died and Sonic disappeared though

A random collection of Sonic headcanons since I’ve been stimulating that part of my brain lately:

Sonic is the absolute last person anyone who’s spent time around him expects to be a foodie considering he eats like absolute garbage and gets away with it because his metabolism will kill him if he doesn’t eat like five meals a day so odds are decent any time he’s not up and about he is probably either napping or snacking. In defiance of this, he actually has a surprisingly worldly palate, since he’s been just about everywhere and has a high natural curiosity about food; he’s tried and enjoyed a lot of stuff, including weird stuff. This is a guy who just knows offhand what haggis tastes like. This also gets to him sometimes because he’ll occasionally get a hankering for like, the authentic street food of a specific city in a country two continents over and he can’t just drop everything and go GET some because there’s an OCEAN in the way

Shadow’s body naturally produces and maintains a pretty potent charge of energy which he uses for his chaos attacks. His inhibitor rings basically work as heat vents to bleed off the majority of that power so he can’t build enough of a charge to fry himself just by not letting off a chaos blast every five minutes. This process is normally silent and extremely subtle- under high duress however they may hiss and release steam because his energy levels fluctuate with his mood and because of his PTSD and other problems his adrenaline levels can spike (and thus, spike his energy) when he’s actually not in a combat situation and has nothing to use all that for. This is not a problem at all as long as he checks his inhibitors in for regular maintenance / keeps the emergency coolant reserves in them topped off, but it tends to scare the crap out of people the first time it happens.

Silver has asthma. Silver does not know what asthma is. Really his health overall is not great but on account of growing up in an apocalypse he has an actually really concerning pain tolerance and has internalized some really bad attitudes about trucking through it so after several people take him aside for an intervention and explain certain important concepts like the use of a rescue inhaler he’s genuinely astonished to realize how many incidental parts of his life are actually serious medical conditions.

Amy is a hobbyist magician and really good at sleight of hand. This messes with at least half of the superpowered people in her life because they KNOW she’s not doing that with literal magic but how did she do that. She’s also great at figuring out those puzzles where you remove two tangled threads without untying them at either end.

Big’s largely hermetic existence does actually get boring sometimes although he’s loath to go into Station Square further than the regular shop he buys fishing tackle from or the open-air farmer’s market where he sells fish, and he’s actually quite well-read as a result, though the majority of his reading is nonfiction. As a result there are a large number of topics where, if incidentally prompted, he’ll be able to explain the minutiae of it in intense detail. These interest areas include:

fishing as a sport

laws about hunting and fishing

the ancient echidna civilization

the entire plot of an obscure period soap opera in a language Big doesn’t speak and the original novel it was based on

engines

woodcarving

almost any animal that can be found in the mystic ruin rainforest basin and surrounding area (he started with frogs and didn’t really stop)

amphibians in general

the history of umbrellas

badniks (sometime after Final Egg was abandoned, Big started wandering around its perimeter and scavenging both for interesting bits to expand/repair his house and out of genuine curiosity)

Jet’s actually a pretty darn competent thief when he keeps his ego out of the way, something that continuously surprises the main targets of his competitive streak.

Charmy’s actually a really deep sleeper which works since he often gets tired on long stakeouts. This will semi-regularly result in either Vector or Espio carrying a sleeping Charmy around. Espio will go for a fairly dignified piggyback carry while Vector will go with whatever position is the most efficient without compromising Charmy’s health. At least once he’s walked around the majority of Westopolis with Charmy dangling halfway out of a normal shopping bag completely dead to the world.

Omega adamantly maintains that his exclusive purpose is to be an efficient engine of destruction but he actually really enjoys looking his best. After a while Rouge picks up on this and they have several discussions about custom paint jobs. Omega thinks it would be interesting to try blue but vetoes the idea because he’s fairly sure it would go straight to Sonic’s head.

Rouge is a regular gym rat, not just because she uses muscles for her work but she just doesn’t feel right without a proper workout. Afterwards she tends to soak it off, so it takes a while for people to realize that her idea of a spa day involves 30lb weights, which she’s just fine with.

Tails is actually scared of a lot of things besides lightning; he sleeps with a nightlight and has bouts of social anxiety. He tries not to let this on because he thinks it’s childish and stupid and he’s clearly so smart he should be acting like an adult already right- needless to say, his friends are a lot more supportive when he talks to them about this. Knuckles uses the master emerald to charge a shard of ordinary crystal to give Tails a battery-less unfailing flashlight for his birthday one year.

The absence of light pollution on most of Angel Island and its usual cruising altitude affords it a great view of the night sky, especially from the slopes of red mountain. Stargazing is one of Knuckles’ main pastimes, and he also uses this to track the Island’s position as it moves.

Broke: talking about shadow's tragic past and nothing else about him and acknowledging shth happened

Woke: talking about what he's deciding to do in the here and now and how life on earth is treating him after hero's

Shadow and Omega becoming Rouge's roommates

Rouge deciding to use her access to gun to fill him in on stuff

Bam! That's done now what

Him and Amy meet again and become friends for real both her and Rouge teach him about how life on earth works show him all the movies and music he needs to catch up on

Shadow meets cream and becomes attached to her she likes making flowers crowns for him and stuff it's cute also Vanilla becomes a good adult figure in his life (not that Rouge isn't cool but can't hurt to have more than one good adult in your life)

Him and sonic keep bumping into each other and besides fighting side by side they like to challenge each other alot now and again and keep each other on their toes they grow a huge amount of respect for each other and while shadow probably won't verbally admit it he's starting to see him as a friend

Rouge takes shadow and omega on alot of her treasure hunting adventures cue running away from giant boulders dodging poison darts more team building rouge having to leave behind a pretty ruby to rescue her two boys and on the way out shadow snagged a small diamond and gives it to her so she didn't leave empty handed power of found family baby

Also because shadow has been tagging along with her alot on these expeditions they bump into another treasure hunter that's right shadow and knuckles becoming rivals shadow is impressed knuckles makes taking of his inhibitor rings nessecary and knuckles is pretty impressed at shadow's strength too they clash alot cause opposing goals and probably don't get off on a fantastic start but they probably have fun going toe to toe

Shadow gets a new chao friend and decides to go to cream and Vanilla to learn the best way to raise them he wants to do right by his chao

Shadow gets a motorbike and anytime anyone asks "why he's super fast he doesn't need it" he gets a bit snappy and annoyed

A whole lot of sight seeing and studying the stars from down here

Shadow learning about and enjoying junkfood and deciding he's never going back to whatever was served on the ark (probably space rations or something idk let's just say hot pockets beat whatever it is by a huge mile) also cue weird food combos and crunching on coffee beans and making rouge cringe

Rouge sending shadow and omega on mundane tasks and it always ends up being a total disaster

Him and omega busting up badniks together in general

Maybe playing get away driver for one of Rouge's heist they probably aren't stealing anything too valuable and again get away driver he isn't getting too into it (you wanna make shadow morally ambiguous so bad Sega have him help Rouge sneak off with priceless stuff every now and again)

Flower arrangements and rescuing stray cats here and there because Lego shadow and the Twitter event shadow had some good moments

Shadow learning there's more ways to help improve the world besides constantly saving it like donating to charities making things that other's well find inspiring/hopeful cleaning up the environment

Shadow also trys to get a super spicy chili dog like in tweeter to prove he can handle it and basically it's goofy as hell and he swears his mouth is still burning from those peppers

Shadow struggling with how some people view him as a super weapon and not a person and maybe some of the guilt from sa2 on certain things he did comes back bit by bit bit his memory

His friends and allies all being ready to support him

Shadow discovers new fashion trends

First holidays on earth

Shadow being helpful to the inhabitants of earth too he always brushes it off as him doing it for another reason

Shadow goes to hot topic becomes a regular and the person at the cast register and him becomes friendly acquaintances
