Capricious Skeletons Dynamics: Rus (pt 1)

Rus & Sans - brothers! Friends, know each other well despite the weird distance that's...also there, but eh, you'll have that.

Rus cares a lot about his incredibly annoying and lazy brother. He’s well aware Sans isn't that lazy, that's just part of their bit, besides, he really doesn't actually mind looking out for him. It's the least he could do after Sans practically raised him after all.

Sans cares a lot about his overbearing, goofyass brother. Kind of annoys him when people take him more seriously than Rus, hey, c'mon, he’s supposed to be the clown around here, but he does his best to show his support for his brother in every annoying (and sincere) way he knows how.

Rus & Stretch - friends, definitely, though sometimes Stretch purposefully antagonizes Rus. They enjoy talking about comics and cars together, and I’d imagine they’d both share a love of playing DnD.

Rus feels like he doesn't wholly understand Stretch, or rather, like Stretch won't let him, and it reminds him of his own brother and Undyne, which makes him feel disappointed. But! That doesn't stop him from trying to get to know him better all the same.

Stretch is jealous of Rus and it makes him feel...bad. He doesn't want Rus to think it's anything he’s done wrong so he puts distance between them because he can't really explain he feels like just an overall worse version of him, can he? Really admires him too, though.

Rus & Blue - friends with a slight weirdness between them. They work together very well, and enjoy planning parties and events together.

Rus just can't shake the feeling Blue underestimates him, despite him only ever really being encouraging. It also feels weird to be friends with a Sans who's so...motivated. Yet he generally has an easier time talking to him than his own brother, so at least there's that!

Blue has to constantly self check he isn't acting like Rus' older brother. He doesn't need the kind of support Stretch does, and he knows it makes Rus feel condescended to. Really enjoys spending time with him, even if some of Rus' more over the top ideas stress him out.

UF, SFM, FSG, VF below the cut

Rus & Edge - best friends, either completely in sync or polar opposites with little room in between. They share a love of engineering and creation, but approach those interests from completely different angles. They enjoy sparring, messing with each other, and working together often, and they understand each other in an unspoken way.

Rus admires Edge greatly and views him as super cool. Has a lot of respect for how hard he works, but wishes he’d find a better work-life balance (tries to help with this!). It antagonizes him when people "worry" about their friendship under the impression Edge is a bad influence because it's infantilizing of him and judgmental of Edge.

Edge admires Rus possibly more than Rus admires him. Rus is one of the few people that can actually get him to laugh, and while he was intimidated of him at first, has grown to feel Rus is one of the few people he can genuinely relax around. Bothers him deeply when people write Rus off as stupid or naive or to be taken less seriously than him.

Rus & Red - sort of weird, semi avoidant familial acquaintances. Like brothers who grew up in separate homes and didn't remeet until much later in life.

Rus is honestly more comfortable around Red than Blue since he’s so much like his own brother, but is relentlessly antagonized by Red's even worse apathy and jokes. He knows how guilty Red feels for how bad his relationship with Edge is, and that it's why Red is so weird around him, but he really wishes Red would come to see them as different enough he'd stop avoiding him.

Red is, as aforementioned, uncomfortable around Rus since it's difficult to separate him and his own brother in his head. Rus is Edge if their lives hadn't been horrible, he’s so much happier and...peppier. And guilt aside, he can't shake how weird it feels to be around a version of his brother who's like that. Or really anyone who's like that. Upbeat people stress him out. But he cares for Rus all the same.

Rus & Copper - sort of friends? Friends by default, on account of both being Papyruses. They don't spend a great deal of time together usually.

Rus finds Copper somewhat annoying. He’s sort of like if you removed all of Stretch's good qualities, with his bad jokes and penchant for mean spirited pranks. He doesn't go out of his way to hurt anyone, at least, but it's almost like Copper deliberately tries to be unlikeable. Rus is hopeful he can be a good influence for him.

Copper feels many feelings about Rus, and most of them make him too uncomfortable to think about for long enough to identify. He’s not quite jealous, he certainly doesn't envy how people treat Rus like a child, but he also doesn't envy the way Rus acts like a child. It's...weird. Though he doesn't mind Rus actually spending time around him. Just as two guys, they get along fine, whenever Copper isn't deliberately trying to do things to annoy Rus.

Rus & Gold - intrigued, curious, could be friends some day.

Rus sees both a lot of Blue and Red in Gold, but there's a genuinely open curiosity about him that makes Rus feel like he can be more honest with him. Would like to be better friends, but Gold is weirdly evasive, despite seeming to enjoy the time they do spend together. Would like to get to know him better.

Gold is...amused by Rus. He sees his brother, and the connection to both Stretch and Edge is somewhat easy to make, but Rus? Rus is...inexplicable. Like some sort of cartoon mascot. Though he’s fully aware he’s intelligent as well, he’s still a Papyrus after all, but he can tell he’s hiding something, and wants to know what. Also generally likes spending time around him, but is chronically allergic to being normal about friendship ever.

Rus & Ghost - uncertainty lingers between them, though an unspoken understanding seems to ease that at times.

Rus would honestly love to befriend Ghost! He’s a Papyrus and should be included in Papyrus-group-friendship things! But for the life of him he can't ever figure out how Ghost feels...about anything. Still, he likes talking to him, and it seems Ghost doesn't mind listening.

Ghost is sort of...indifferent to Rus? On the slightly more positive side of neutral. High energy people tend to annoy him, but for whatever reason, Rus seems to understand that, and doesn't pressure him to keep up. He...appreciates it, even if he’s not too wild about having any sort of social life at all. Rus is. Alright.

Rus & Haze - suspicious and uncomfortable, Haze is not a team player by any definition, and seems to be one of the rare Sanses immune to viewing any Papyrus as their younger brother.

Rus would love for Haze to loosen up and get to know him (and the others) better, because really, there's no reason to exclude himself so much! He reminds Rus a lot of what might happen if you gave Red a ton of caffeine and gave him a reason to be paranoid. Similar weird vibes.

Haze is incredibly suspicious of Rus. Much like Gold is surprised by how removed he is from his own brother, Haze sees that as a reason not to trust him. Why does Rus stand out so much amongst all of them (he doesn't, Haze just doesn't know the others well enough)? His whole cutesy-goofy-schtick is bizarre and annoying, but he won't go starting fires too quickly. Why burn a bridge when you don't have to?

Rus & Void - mutual respect, though they don't get the chance to spend much time together.

Rus finds Void deeply interesting and would love to get to know him better, but he’s always disappearing off to do something else. Thinks he’s super cool, and knows he’s hiding something.

Appreciates Rus's enthusiasm, but feels more than a little out of place around him, which lends to avoiding him a little. He respects him, just wishes Rus would give him a little more space.

Rus (undertale) - devoted knight. Not to one person, rather a cause. His friends and loved ones, protecting them, taking care of them, by whatever means he has.

Edge (underfell) - collapse. He works himself so hard, it was bound to happen eventually. He’s not going to learn his lesson.

Stretch (underswap) - overheard at the worst possible time. Whether it was his secret spilled or he found something out he wasn’t meant to, I feel like Stretch is very good at finding himself in the wrong place at the wrong time without fail.

Copper (swapfell metal) - (platonic) slow burn. He’s a stubborn asshole but with enough goofing off and late night talks, he might open up a little, and be better off for it.

Ghost (fellswap glass) - framed. Uh oh! Looks like you’ve been framed for a crime you didn’t commit, and now it’s up to you and you alone to find a way out of this. Good luck!

Uno (glitchedswap) - disappearance. It’s been many years since the sudden unexpected disappearance of Papyrus Gaster, but the hole his absence left still seems to be growing.

Heartfell Papyrus - soulmate birthmarks with a twist. That twist being that…he doesn’t seem to have a mark. Oh dear.

Lace (lovefell) - heartbreak in the rain. Self explanatory.

Rosewood (mafialovefell) - curse. He’s had a curse put on him, and only true loves kiss can break it...

Boss (mafiafell) - isekai. I would love to put his ass in a situation. /j but seriously. “Medical malpractice”. He is subject to experiments beyond his control. It does not end well.

Luck (mafiaswap) - lost the bet. Like rags to riches but in reverse. Will he be able to climb back to the position he once had?

Hawk (mafiatale) - poison. Uh oh! You’ve been poisoned. Is this gunna end at the hospital or the morgue?

Dove (horrortale) - second chances. He deserves a new lease on life, after everything…right?

Rust (horrorswap) - memory loss. He loses his memory in a terrible accident…but maybe that’s for the best.

Dusk (horrorfell) - life candles. And his has almost run out…

Ice (invertedfell) - (platonic) forced confessions. Trapped with a friend in dire circumstances and after a point, all they have left to pass the time is talking.

Clover (sweetswap) - flower shop. He’s always loved how colorful flowers are, even if he’s been partially colorblind since his accident.

Pictoris (outertale) - arranged marriage. But maybe it won’t be so bad after all..?

Aurigae - (platonic) slow dance. He gets pulled into dancing by a friend. He was having a terrible day, but…that helped. Maybe more than he’s even willing to admit.

Antares (outerfell) - space pirate. Is this a trope? I honestly don’t know but I love the concept and am standing by this.

Elester (demonfell) - absurd meet cute. He’s a demon, he needs to be placed in the story by extreme means, right?

Dos (glitchfell) - ghosts of the past. Something from his past is haunting him, and he can’t outrun it forever.

Some random singing headcanons for you

I want to make a voice claims post about all the boys but tbh I haven’t even come close to picking all of them, however. I do at least have a good idea of how I imagine the main Papyri boys to sing.

Stretch - I always imagined he sounds a bit like the lead singer for Hippo Campus and/or Cage The Elephant. The slightly raspy, tired quality of their voices really suits Stretch in my mind, and even their music in general just gives me major Stretch vibes. I could easily imagine him singing Poems (HC) or Come a Little Closer (CtE), and having kind of…laid back indie taste in music.

Rus - I’ll be frank, I’ve always liked the headcanon that Papyrus cannot sing to save his life, but this could also be split with another headcanon of mine, that he can sing well, just doesn’t usually because he prefers to sing enthusiastically rather than purposefully. That being said, if Rus could sing and put effort into it, I think he’d sound a bit like the singer for Jukebox The Ghost. I think he’d love to sing bouncier, almost dramatic kinds of music, and he’d really be able to belt out a wild rendition of Jumpstarted (JtG) or Don’t Stop Me Now (Queen). He’d be into musicals probably, and breakcore.

Copper - tbh I don’t imagine Copper to really sing, so much as just kind hum a little, or mutter along a line or two to something he’s listening to. But, if he did, I think he’d sound sort of like a pitched down Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low), or a little like the singer from Gang of Youths. I think he wouldn’t really be too picky about music at all, so he’d likely sing whatever was popular on the radio at the time, though he may have a tiny preference for classic rock and folk. The song that jumps to mind for him is actually Painting Flowers (ATL) for some reason

Ghost - he really honestly and truly probably has zero desire to sing, ever. That aside if Chara asked him to sing them a lullaby or something, he probably would, low and gravel for how underused his voice goes. I’d imagine him sounding similarly to the Gang of Youths singer as well, or Hozier but raspier. Wasteland Baby (Hozier) or his cover of The Parting Glass would be good examples of Ghost’s vibes, though as far as listening goes, he’d probably prefer music that doesn’t have vocals at all

Edge - similarly to Rus, I always lean a little closer to him not really being able to sing, but this might not even wholly be from lack of ability but just disuse, like Ghost. That, and the fact he wouldn’t let himself be caught dead singing under most circumstances, aside, I think he’d actually sound a bit like Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), or a little like a pitched down, less twangy version of the Black Keys singer. And if he did commit to the bit, so to speak, I could easily hear him singing something like Pretenders or Dirty Water (FF). Though I think his own tastes might honestly lean a little more mild, like classical or acoustic, maybe some rock and metal, maybe.

I also wanna note I tried to aim for voices that sounded similar and had similar qualities to them, because I am of the opinion their voices would all sound similar being, ya know, alternate versions of each other lol, so just know that, in my head anyway, their voices wouldn’t sound too dramatically different from each other’s

For the request you put up, can I request Copper’s favorite sleeping position(s) if that isn’t too strange an ask? Lol I tend to switch between fetal with a singular pillow under my head and between my knees to sleeping with one arm and the same leg straight and the other arm and knee bent with my elbow touching my knee. And if I sleep in my late grandmother’s recliner, I curl up in the seat with my head on one arm rest and my foot hanging off the other. Basically for me, being fully stretched out is a sin and it shan’t be done lol

Not too strange at all! Though in this case, Copper is essentially your polar opposite. He will simply flop down and sleep, sometimes posed in ways that don’t even conceivably seem comfortable at all. He’s tall and lanky, and his joints are chronically sore, so he prefers to be as lax as possible, stretched out and limp. Probably a blanket stealer, even though they inevitably end up on the floor anyway.

The position itself doesn’t matter so much, on his side, back, front, and he doesn’t usually move a lot in his sleep. He is just a floppy tangle of long limbs…

Blue (US Sans) - Waffles, hands down! Loves mixed berry syrup and maybe, maybe mini marshmallows if he’s feeling indulgent

Stretch (US Papyrus) - French toast, because he loves to drown it in maple syrup and honey and powdered sugar with cinnamon mixed in (it’s a good thing monsters teeth can’t rot lol). Will also put ice cream on it if it’s dessert and not breakfast.

Red (UF Sans) - Waffles, no toppings, but he’ll tolerate a little melted butter and powdered sugar (read: prefers it this way but struggles to allow himself to Enjoy Things)

Edge (UF Papyrus) - specifically blueberry pancakes, with a little cinnamon and cloves mixed into the batter, but no toppings except maybe a little maple syrup

Gold (SFM Sans) - French toast, but he prefers it The Fancy Way where you cook sugar on it to give it a crispy crème brûlée style top (bc he’s pretentious /lh), and maybe a little vanilla ice cream…

Copper (SFM Papyrus) - Pancakes that’s are completely unrecognizable with how much stuff is mixed into the batter and then topped with it. Think the spaghetti scene in Elf, but pancakes, and that’s how Copper likes it.

Haze (FSG Sans) - Waffles, blackberry or mulberry syrup, nothing else.

Ghost (FSG Papyrus) - also waffles, any syrup, doesn’t matter, but it has to be swimming in it. Will also put sriracha on it sometimes.

Patch (HT Sans) - Waffles, with a lot of butter and maple syrup or honey.

Dove (HT Papyrus) - French toast! But prepared very simply and with only a very light dusting of powdered sugar

Coal (HS Sans) - Waffles with whipped cream and fresh fruit and sprinkles! He especially loves the little star shaped sprinkles =<]

Rust (HS Papyrus) - Pancakes, with a ton of honey, but nothing else…

Eclipse (HF Sans) - Pancakes, but he prefers to have them with savory food, too, so no sweet toppings, except maybe a little maple syrup.

Dusk (HF Papyrus) - also pancakes, just with some fresh fruit (he would never admit it but he loves chocolate chip pancakes best)

AR (MT Sans) - Waffles, with butter and maple syrup. Classic.

Hawk (MT Papyrus) - French toast, easily! But specifically only when he makes it, and he serves it with fresh peach slices and homemade whipped cream.

Cue (MS Sans) - Waffles, prefers fruit in the batter to any fruit syrups, but a little maple syrup is always nice. Would probably have it with a cocktail

Luck (MS Papyrus) - French toast prepared crème brûlée style also, but he’d still probably add more syrup afterwards…

Snare (MF Sans) - Waffles with maple syrup, with savory food similar to Clips

Boss (MF Papyrus) - Crêpes, because he doesn’t like heavy bready foods, especially not first thing in the morning -eyeroll- (prefers fruit crêpes, powdered sugar topping is…tolerable (he doesn’t really like sweets…))

Ara (OT Sans) - Pancakes, with fruit and honey and ketchup. He’s pretty much as bad as regular Sans.

Pictoris (OT Papyrus) - Waffles, but with blueberry syrup and whipped cream! =<]

Antares (OF Papyrus) - Pancakes, with any berry syrup or fruit in the batter! (And whipped cream, which he would never ever admit out loud)

Lace (LF Papyrus) - Pancakes with a little maple syrup if he has (good!) coffee to dip them in, but otherwise French toast with honey =<]

Hemlock (MLF Sans) - Waffles, any fruit syrup as long as it’s bathed in it.

Rosewood (MLF Papyrus) - maybe French toast, similarly to Boss, he leans into preferring lighter stuff like crêpes usually, but anything fruit involved is always a nice addition.

Berry (SS Sans) - Waffles with fruit in the batter, and lots of whipped cream! A little sprinkle of powdered sugar wouldn’t hurt, either.

Clover (SS Papyrus) - French toast, but drowned in anything sweet. Honey, maple syrup, fruit syrups, sprinkles, powdered sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon sugar, whipped cream, dessert syrups, chocolate chips, caramel. Anything you can think of he’d throw it in there, the worst of the swap Papyri as far as sweets go, but he might also throw in some cayenne powder for a little kick.

Raviel (DF Sans) - Waffles, topping, more waffles. And lots of syrup, any kind, so long as it doesn’t have bits of stuff in it (like fruit. He prefers that cheap weird stuff they put on ice cream that’s mostly just corn syrup and food dye).

Elester (DF Papyrus) - pancakes, with literally anything, but a drizzle of melted dark chocolate is very nice…

Pin (IF Sans) - No outward seeming preference, but he does like spicy things and candy, so probably pancakes with spices and granulated sugar.

Ice (IF Papyrus) - no preference. Food is food. (Has a soft spot for fresh fruit though)

Perp (VF Sans) - Similar to Red, but he’s more well adjusted and loves to partake in buttery, sugary waffles. Especially loves the “snickerdoodle” waffles Void makes for him and Frisk

Void (VF Papyrus) - French toast with fresh fruit and a light drizzle of honey. He’s a classy guy.

Bonus: Abstract! - Anything is good and nice, but he does have a soft spot for sweets, so any three presented options with a little maple syrup or honey or fruit would make him very happy =<]
