Last month, my son proposed to her childhood girlfriend, and she said yes! Since then, they have planned to make everything perfect for their special day. Being a mother and a businesswoman, he entrusted me with the duty of creating a custom-made Cricut wine glass, especially for them. It's crystal clear that it is very difficult to create any design on glass as it is a sensitive material.

With a Cricut cutting machine, I won't have to worry because supplies help me balance everything. The possibilities for making projects with the Cricut machine are endless. If you intend to make wine glasses with Cricut, there are a few supplies needed to help users complete their art quickly. This blog talks about how to connect your Cricut machine to an app (Cricut Design Space), but I don’t think it is the same as connecting Cricut to your computer or mobile phone.

Connecting a Cricut to an app and connecting Cricut to a compatible device are two different things. Don’t get confused! The question is, if both are different, then what are we going to learn from this blog? In this blog, I will teach you how to connect a Cricut machine to an app. However, it is also called a Cricut setup. We will be learning about machine setup on Windows computers. Let’s dive into it without any further ado!

Step 1: Unboxing a Cricut Product

Okay, so to get to the exciting part of the Cricut machine setup, we will first need to unbox the machine. However, if you have already unboxed it, enjoy🥳and move to the second step in order to learn how to connect Cricut to app.

Here, let me share my experience of unboxing my Cricut.

I opened the box’s lid and saw a matted folder over the top surface of the Cricut machine. Here I am, actually, opening my Cricut Explore Air 2 machine. It came with a blue LightGrip mat. Those who got the Cricut Maker machine then will receive a green StandardGrip mat.

To open the Cricut machine, I pressed the Open button (on the left side). As I pressed the button, the rest of the doors opened on their own. Here, Cricut Maker users need to lift the top lid. After that, the front door will open on its own (automatically).

Note: Do not open the doors that open automatically. Just wait and let them open slowly on their own.

When your Cricut is opened, you need to remove the foam and other tape on the side.

Step 3: Plug Into a Cricut Machine

Isn’t it amazing to always be eager to learn how to make a monogram on Cricut? Then, you will be a part of the journey where you will get all the information, from basics to the end. I have done thousands of DIY projects over the past few months, but designing custom-made monograms is close to my heart. From wine glasses to hats, you can combine them, making them look more casual and trendier.

There are many models of Cricut machines that you can customize to your liking. Besides the cutting machine, essential supplies will make this project more manageable. Apart from that, you can also create and sell your respective monograms in the market and start your own business.

To get the best results out of the Cricut machine, keep reading this blog until the end and avoid jumping into any section while going through it.

Step 1: Start By Designing a Monogram Design

Begin by choosing the Text toolbar and entering your initial inside. Afterward, go to the Fonts section, press System, and type monogram inside the Search box. Now, click the monogram system you want to choose, and it will directly appear on your canvas.

I also only had 2.0 mm bookboard instead of 1.0 mm, so instead of layering two of the same boards like DAS did, I instead used one 2.0 mm board and one very thin piece of cardboard to create the groove for the hinge. The original article that DAS bases his video on actually uses boards of two different sizes too--a "thick" board and a "thin" board--but I still want to experiment with DAS's way of doing it, especially since I think it'll be easier to do cutouts on thinner board.

As far as matching the groove with the hinge, I think I did pretty okay for my first try! One board is definitely better fitting than the other though baha. There's always room for improvement, but hey that's where half the fun is anyway (and also you can't tell after the case-in whew), so I'm not stressed about it :D

COLOR SCHEME:

Nearly all of my design decisions for the color scheme were based off of @byierficrecs's gorgeous cover design! They were so generous in letting me use their cover and answering my questions about fonts, for which I can't thank them enough. And with so many wonderful elements to work with, it was so much fun to tease out the elements I loved from their work!

I decided to keep with the theme of red/black, which I also thought was fitting for a ST fic set largely in the Upside Down. Thus, black painted edges with red vines, as a kind of inverted, "upside down" continuation of the cover:

Even the thread I used to sew the signatures is red/black! :3 (please also ignore how the picture of the textblock is not focused on the actual textblock ajsldkfjs it was very late when I took that photo)

COVER PRINTING:

This was my first time printing a cover on my new printer (!!!), and BOY oh boy was it an adventure. Figuring out the dimensions took a second, but not as long as it took me to figure out what settings produced something I was happy with. Behold, all my test prints:

Very long story short, let's just say now I understand why being a prepress color specialist is literally a career you can have in publishing LOL.

Also, for some reason I could only sometimes get the bleed to work? Basically what I ended up doing was painting over the parts where the design didn't quite extend over the turn-ins, using with the same black acrylic paint I used for the edges. You can see this more clearly in the photos I took of the groove, and the endpapers covered the messy bits when I cased in:

THE MAIN INGREDIENT: LOVE

Finally!! The most important part of the process!!! HI LEAH ILY!!!! This fic is special for a lot of personal reasons, but chief among them is LOVE!!!! Your A/N's made me tear up when I first read it, because AH! You read my words of love!!! And went and wrote hundreds of thousands of your own words of love!!! And now I hope I've given that love back once again :3 And on and on we go, ad infinitum, until we are relieved of the curse of literacy and greet whatever comes after all this, thanks be to Todd.
