If you are travelling towards Tawang through the Sela Pass, do make a stop at the Jaswantgarh War Memorial. The war memorial is built in the memory of Rfn Jaswant Singh Rawat, LN Trilok Singh Negi, and Rfn Gopal Singh Gosain of the 4th Garhwal Rifles. On 17th November 1962, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army launched two waves of unsuccessful attacks at the Indian defences and was putting pressure with relentless MMG fire in the third wave. The three men volunteered to subdue the MMG in a counter attack. While they managed to neutralise the Chinese attack, LN Negi and Rfn Gosain were KIA and Rfn Rawat was seriously wounded. The losses inflicted on the Chinese was heavy, estimated at 300. The 4th Garhwal had to eventually withdraw. However, Rfn Jaswant Singh Rawat volunteered to stay back and hold the Chinese while his unit evacuated to a safer defensive position. He and two local girls - Sela and Noorie - made their last stand at this position, holding it for 72 hours. Rfn Rawat and Sela were KIA while Noorie was captured. The Chinese were astonished to find that they were held back by a lone soldier and two girls. The PLA commander returned the bodies of the dead with a brass bust of Rfn Jaswant Singh Rawat, MVC. The post where they made their last stand was renamed Jaswant Garh. The mountain pass came to be known as Sela Pass. O My God! Did she really did this... Surprising some Avenger Ghost 🦹🏻 must have got in...isn’t it? And it does when you see that snow right at your foot...and basically everywhere around. I am at #selalake side in #arunachalpradesh towards #tawang, I tried few more times to be my best to do my bit to get that shot right and wanted to have my posture to be perfect enough with my both legs separate and hands and head in right direction like a super hero🦹‍♀️ and here it is my stunt captured. That how you live in moments...time gone may never come back so always living in that particular time and energy is called happiness which we always look for so@where far from us but it is right there with you to cherish feel and act upon. I never miss out that moment ever. I also have ups and down and low modes like mobile battery but that is where we can make it up with such moments as without such low modes we may never realise the joy of happy mode with full on battery charged and flow of energy is in high current though. Sela Pass- The Sela Pass (more appropriately called Se La, as La means Pass) is a high-altitude mountain pass located on the border between the Tawang and West Kameng Districts of Arunachal Pradesh state in India. It has an elevation of 4170 m (13,700 ft) and connects the Indian Buddhist town of Tawang to Dirang and Guwahati. The pass carries the National Highway 13(previously NH 229), connecting Tawang with the rest of India. The pass supports scarce amounts of vegetation and is usually snow-covered to some extent throughout the year. Sela Lake, near the summit of the pass, is one of approximately 101 lakes in the area that are sacred in Tibetan Buddhism. While Sela Pass does get heavy snowfall in winters, it is usually open throughout the year unless landslides or snow require the pass to be shut down temporarily.
