THE ANECDOTE OF GHUMMI KABABI..🤍✨ The culinary art has been most important art in the Mughal times. Shah Jahan liked to enjoy long courses of food and spent hours on darstarkhwan. The emperor would set out the portion of food for poor before eating. However after 1857 when Delhi fell to its most miserable condition every section of society from Royal to ordinary’s were tremendously hurt. The lost grandeur also meant complete collapse of economy & loss of patronage. After the exile of Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar , many of the chefs in the royal kitchen found themselves without patrons and set up roadside stalls in the walled city in order to survive. They sold delicious good on the roadside and on the steps of Jama Masjid. Of these cooks was Ghummi Kababi, described by Ashraf Subuhi Dehlvi in his book, Dikli ki chand Ajeeb Hastiyan. As long as Ghummi was alive no better Kabab were ever sold. Ghummi himself was a an entertaining man who single handedly tried to preserve Mughal legat. He had great skills to converse and narrate the memories of the beautiful past of Mughal grandeus of which he was a significant part. Ghummi would often mutter ‘ Aji woh din lad gaye jab khalil khan fakhta udaya kartey they’ The glory days have gone when all the lovers of spicy conversation and kababs would stand there the whole night. #mughalarchitecture #food #olddelhi #history #architecture #medieval #kabab #ghummikababs #history #culinary #culinaryarts #art #shahjahanabad #shahjahan #foodie #jamamasjid #mosque #stairs #instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CqJ0utbPZ_O/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Virupaksha Temple at dusk with the moon in the backdrop and smaller shrines in the foreground. The temple is part of the Group of Monuments at Hampi inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is reckoned to have existed in some form or the other since the 7th century and grew into a large shrine under the Vijayanagar rulers. The eastern gateway is almost 50 metres in height and is surrounded by a cluster of smaller shrines. #MurudeshwaraTemple is fast becoming one of the most popular tourist spots in #Karnataka because of the humongous statue of Shiva that it houses. The temple is built on the #KandukaHill and is surrounded by the #ArabianSea on three sides. Travellers from all over the world come to marvel at not just the 123-ft Shiva temple but also the 20-storey (237ft) Gopuram at the front. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn1TAFUPcCm/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Just adjacent to the Mahabat Maqbara is another mausoleum dedicated to the Nawab’s vazir, Bahaduddinbhai Hasainbhai. Built soon after the completion of the Nawabs maqbara, Bahaduddin commissioned his own to be built in a similar mixture of styles. A unique feature that sets this mausoleum apart from the other one are its four minarets with a helical staircase going from bottom to top around it, or as locals call it as the ‘inside-out minaret’. #mahabatmaqbara #mahabatkhanmosque #elevations #details #gothicbeauty #mausoleum #islamic #minaret #insideout #european #hindustani #mixofstyles #indianarchitecture #heritageofindia #viewsfordays #incredibleindia #gujarat #gujaratdiaries #junagadh #shotoniphone #elevations https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmx4_4mvhPG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Virupaksha Temple is located in #Hampi in the Ballari district of #Karnataka, India. It is part of the Group of #Monuments at Hampi, designated as a #UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple is dedicated to #LordVirupaksha, a form of Shiva. The temple's history is uninterrupted from about the 7th century. The Virupaksha-Pampa sanctuary existed well before the Vijayanagara capital was located here. Inscriptions referring to Shiva date back to the 9th and 10th centuries. What started as a small shrine grew into a large complex under the Vijayanagara rulers. Evidence indicates there were additions made to the temple in the late Chalukyan and Hoysala periods, though most of the temple buildings are attributed to the Vijayanagar period. The huge temple building was built by Lakkana Dandesha, a chieftain under the ruler Deva Raya II of the Vijayanagara Empire. Under the Vijayanagara rulers, in the middle of the 14th century, there began a flowering of native art and culture. When the rulers were defeated by Muslim invaders in the 16th century, most of the wonderful decorative structures and creations were systematically destroyed. The religious sect of Virupaksha-Pampa did not end with the destruction of the city in 1565. Worship there has persisted throughout the years. At the beginning of the 19th century there were major renovations and additions, which included ceiling paintings and the towers of the north and east gopura. #hampi #hampifocus #gopuram #Karnataka #travelkarnataka #lordshiva #virupakshatemple #hampidiaries #shivatemple #mahadeva #templesofkarnataka🙏🙏 #indiantemple #templesofindia #incrediblekarnataka #virupaksha #karnatakafocus #indianarchitecture #archaeology #unesco #unescoworldheritage https://www.instagram.com/p/CmsOfm1Bl8g/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Chennakesava temple  at Belur, Karnataka. The temple was built during the regime of the Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana and completed or commissioned (as debated by historians) in 1117CE to commemorate an important victory in 1116 CE. It marks the apogee of the Hoysala art and architecture along with the temples at Halebidu and Somanathapura. The presiding deity Chennakesava (Handsome  Kesava = Krishna)  is one of the many forms of Lord Vishnu. Elaborate carvings and sculptures with minute details embellish the walls of the temple and are a sight to behold and represents the pinnacle of artistic and cultural accomplishments of the Hoysala Empire that reigned from the 11th centuryto 14th century CE largely in present day Karnataka, India. #hoysala #hoysalaarchitecture #hoysalatemple #belurtemple #chennakeshavatemple #insta_india #ig_indiashots #ig_india #instakarnataka #dekhoapnadesh #indiatourism #ourcultureourpride #nammakarnataka #hindutemple #indiantemples #karnataka #karnatakafocus #templearchitecture #indianmonuments #monumentsofindia #historicalplace #karnatakaworld #incredibleindiaoffical #discoverindiamagazine #travelindiagram #historicalplace #instatravelgram #heritagesite #travelindia #india_pixelz #indiaclick https://www.instagram.com/p/CmLl3q3vCu4/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

St Andrew's Church also known as the Kirk is the only Scottish church in #Kolkata and was opened to the public only on March 8, 1818. The foundation stone was laid on November 30, 1815 by Marquis of Hastings. The Countess of Moira and the Countess of Loudon attended the stone laying ceremony. In 1835, the clock fitted to the tower. It was designed by M/s Burn, Currie & Co. It was also known as "laat sahib ka girja" (the church of the Governor). Probably the name derived from the fact that the foundation stone was laid by the wife of the Governor General, Marquis of Hastings. #StAndrewsChurch was built just at the site of Old Court House which was demolished in 1792. The street just in front of the St Andrew's Church is known as the Old Court House Street. (at St Andrews Church) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmJY9zCPL0d/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

One of the mightiest Granite Temples in Tamilnadu built by Chozha dynasty 1000 years ago. This Temple was invaded and desecrated partially by Malik Kafur in 14th Century CE, Brits used this Temple complex as their barracks, also dismantled part of the Temple and used the granite stones to build a dam at Anaikkarai village across Kollidam river.
