I recently got back into the SCP Foundation, and started reading through a select bunch of tales from their “Competitive Eschatology” canon, where a specific grouping of anomalies turn out to be the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. This is, without a doubt, my favorite interpretation of all these guys, so I couldn’t resist making some art!

Series I, Part VI

SCP-027 - The Vermin God

This is another one that’s just sort of tragic. The SCP itself is some unknown force that causes vermin to swarm around an (apparently randomly selected) individual, who can’t turn it off or control it. As such, the Foundation has the guy in containment, and he’s just kinda got to deal with it. It’s sad. Guy didn’t do anything (except be involved in the investigation into the first known host), and now he’s got a vermin swarm.

This is also one of the first cases I’ve really noticed of a poorly placed [DATA EXPUNGED] ruining the mood of a skip. Here’s the quote: Shortly thereafter, crawling animals (including lice, cockroaches, worms, spiders, [DATA EXPUNGED], mice, and rats) will begin to appear; What could that be? What could they possibly need to redact there? It doesn’t make the thing creepier in any way, it just makes it seem goofy. And it loses a point for that.

SCP-028 - Knowledge

This one’s just sort of weird. You walk into the area, you gain complete knowledge of a random subject. It’s neat, if a little bland. I think the report would’ve been better served by more reports of banal knowledge gained from it, rather than “complete knowledge of SCPs” or “seemingly normal thing and also [DATA EXPUNGED] about it.”

SCP-029 - Daughter of Shadows

This one might have real world religious/mythological basis? I’m not sure, and I’m not familiar enough with the religion in question to actually know. It’s an Indian girl who might be connected to Kali or might just be some sort of unrelated entity who’s co-opted that mythology. Either way, she’s evil, she likes to kill people by strangling them, and her skin is slowly turning all black. It’s fine. I don’t really care for it, but I don’t hate it, either.

Another one that’s just kinda weird! I like Ariel. They’re just a creature. A little clay dude of unknown origin who just wants to do science. They’re cool.

I’m just not feeling this one. It’s a creepy sort of plant monster in a hotel. It may be causing spatial anomalies. It’s whatever.

SCP-032 - Brothers’ Bride

I’m told this one has connections to another SCP (1440, apparently), and while I am going to check that out for more context, I said at the outset that I was going to look at each skip as its own thing. And taken on its own, I don’t know how I feel about it.

It’s weird. As is probably becoming increasingly obvious at this point, I like the “weird” ones more than I like the specifically “horror” ones. The problem is that the weirdness of this one is hard to pin down – it harms living things and unprocessed things. However, because it’s so specifically a counterpart to 1440, it’s kind of hard to evaluate it on without that. It’s a cool idea, and the writing of this one is really good, but without the additional context the story feels incomplete.

Yeah I work for the SCP Foundation. I'm a junior researcher in the non-anomalies department. It's not all that exciting. We do stuff like test the effects of various quantities of water on C-548 (a waterwheel) and write descriptions that are like "C-027 is an organism appearing to be an ordinary housefly. Genetic testing reveals that the organism's DNA is identical to that of Musca domestica Linnaeus."

A second thought i was unable to get rid of: merging site-19 senior staff with various scps

Bright and 035, a possessive and sentient necklace that apologizes profusely for possessing people but doesn’t want to die so they keep doing so

Clef and 106, for all intents and purposes it’s just 106 with Clef’s temperament and mild reality-bending shenanigans

Iceberg and 009, his blood is just. 009. I know he’s technically still too warm for it to have a liquid form (which occurs at 0° while Iceberg is 7° but shut up)

Gears and 079, it’s either Gears is a robot confirmed or the supercomputer is actually polite and helpful

Cimmers and 457, either it’s normal Cimmerian constantly on fire and total fine or it’s normal Cimmerian constantly on fire and in constant agony so long as he maintains a human form

Kondraki and 027, it’s basically just Kon with Even More Butterflies and maybe some cool looking moths as well

Gerald is still Gerald, but somehow more unnerving

SCP-1000000 Cross-Testing Logs

Control: Subject is exposed to D-4507, a male subject with noted depression. Subject expressed a concern for D-4507 and requested medication to help with their symptoms.

Subject is shown to have enough of an understanding of human psychology to proceed with further testing.

Test: SCP-027-3

Subject interacted with SCP through the window of their containment chamber. During the session, Subject allowed SCP to take their time and attempted to redirect their scratching.

After session, Subject requested use of stim toys for SCP-027-3.

Test: SCP-076

Subject engaged with SCP in standard interogation chamber, having repurposed a table as a sofa. Subject and SCP had a two-hour session, during most of which Subject worked on helping SCP 'reorganize their mental stores.'

Subject requested further testing, citing 'having only slightly scratched the surface' of the SCP's mental capabilities. SCP-076 cited a slight discomfort with Subject, claiming they reminded them of certain family members.

Test: SCP-343

Accidental exposure occurred due to SCP-343's 'wandering.' After briefly speaking in the hallway, SCP was found in Subject's containment chamber, helping it to decorate. When not engaging in test or on curfew, these two are often found playing, talking, or wandering the facility together.

SCP-343 explained their fast friendship by stating 'There are simply things you can't talk to your creations about, and he's a jolly good conversationalist.'

Test: SCP-682

Subject is introduced to SCP. SCP, in accordance with containment proceedures, is in their acid tank. After two hours of uneventful attempts at working with the SCP, Subject requested he be removed from the tank to 'give him a sensory break.'

As expected, SCP promptly broke containment and devoured most of Subject. It took three months for Subject to regenerate to the point of speech, at which they begrudgingly agreed termination might be best for 'that poor lizard.'

Subject still requests to work on SCP-682, claiming their own stubborn nature as a doctor to be the cause. All requests are to be denied.
