Fontaine feels dystopian in a completely different way than other nations. Like yeah Inazuma has the vision hunt and Sakoku decree and Sumeru has the whole "Creating a god" thing.
The difference is that in Fontaine all of the citizens are participating in the dystopia. Every single one.
Every trial is treated like a play, the people watching it boo when it's predictable and cheer when there are twists.
But people's lives are getting ruined!
Someone got murdered, and they're worried about the culprit being predictable?!?
And these same people, the AUDIENCE, are at least partially responsible for deciding who is guilty Through a machine
A machine no one knows how it works or how it decides verdicts. It is a complete black box!
And all this under a god that not only feeds into it, but encourages it. Who'd rather falsely accuse someone OF MURDER than embarrass herself.
Not only that, but once people get out of jail, the only support they're getting is from an organization specifically made to do what the gardes can't. AND THEY'RE BROKE! Also, you're going into the sewers.
Not even mentioning the perfectly legal CHILD TRAFFICKING.
And everyone is just cool with all this! What the hell!!

Wallaby is helping kangaroo’s joey build a sandcastle! Yay! Oh, wait, never mind…
Found a tiny crab sandpit in the local recycle shop the other day, and remembered I have some kinetic sand for it! Sylvanians customised by me.
