As a Salvadoran myself, I love Vaggie as a character. I love how she’s smart, mature, protective of her loves ones, and knows how to fight. Vaggie is the only Salvadorena I have seen coming from US media and the fact that she is also a lesbian is great since there isn’t a lot of gay or just queer rep of Latinos in general especially in something as popular as Hazbin. But I do have some concerns how she will be treated in the show.

Viv has a habit of making her characters one-note and my concern is she will make Vaggie, the one note angry Latina trope. Where Vaggie is constantly screaming and getting angry at the sinners in the cast but instead of getting angry for no reason, her anger is valid but the show will portrays her as bitchy for wanting the sinners to act like grown-up for once.

No surprise now that the limo is the scene that critics used to show how Vaggie’s anger is being treated like a joke. I saw another latina explain why Vaggie’s anger being used a joke is the same as Sir pentious and Husk’s anger also being used as jokes but I disagreed.

What makes Sir P and Husks’ anger scenes different from Vaggie is first, the people insulting them were shown to be obvious assholes trying to get a reaction from them. While Angel in the limo scene is portrayed as being witty and sassy, being so proud of his, ”Don’t get your taco twisted” insult as if it isn’t one of the most generic and overused insult to say to a Latina. Second, when the insultee were insulted, it wasn’t in a serious context. Nothing bad will happen to Husk for loosing a poker game, same thing with Sir P loosing a TERF fight to two people he has probably lose to before. When Angel Dust joined the TERF fight, it had serious consequences. The little respect that the sinners had for Charlie is now gone and the reputation of the hotel has been destroyed. Vaggie’s anger shouldn’t have been used as a joke here since it makes her seem rude when in reality, her anger is justified and in comparison to Angel acting chill about the fact he ruined everything for Chaggie, she look even more unreasonable.

They could have improved the limo scene by writing it into an actual serious moment in the pilot and treating Vaggie’s anger seriously. They should have punished Angel Dust for his involvement in the TERF war. It’s unfair that Chaggie only got to suffered the consequences of Angel’s actions but not Angel himself. So in this new limo scene it goes like normal, Vaggie is yelling at Angel and Angel is still making joke, Vaggie tells Angel, a punishment for his action. When Angel first hears this, he thinks she’s joking but a upon looking at her face, Angel realizes Vaggie is being serious and gets pissed about it. So now everyone is angry, it all cancels out, and Angel learns there are consequences for his actions.

Or Charlie could speak out with Vaggie about how Angel ruined her dream of helping to redeem the sinners that she had for a long time now. Or it could just be Charlie who gets upset at Angel and explains to him sadly what he has done. Which prompted Angel to actually get sad for her and let a reaction slide before catching himself and started to joke around but now everything is awkward and there is a unspoken acknowledgment between everyone that Angel did messed up.

In the pilot, there was that one moment where Angel did realized he messed up and tried to reach out for Charlie before stopping himself. To be honest I think that moment would have work better in the limo scene since it was the only scene to addressed his actions. Also it would be better if Charlie had spoken instead of Vaggie because Angel respects and sympathize with Charile more than Vaggie.

I would’ve never imagined this. I started Spartan Racing back in 2011. In 2013, Spartan began Trifectas and started planning a few here and there with friends for fun.
