finally got around to reading the Gigantomachia bc of Reasons and it's been… a wild trip tbh. My impressions so far (beware cringe):
The concept of Shun going to a Greek play is funny. The concept of Shun going to a Greek play and watching someone die… is still funny. Ironically.
idk if i'm too paranoid or whatever, but Altar Nicole being unable to help during the Greek theater fiasco is a little suspicious.
I love Mei's concept! He's got that big brother (heh) energy. And the fact that he didn't graduate bc his master (Deathmask) died is so funny to me. I'm sorry my sense of humor is so skewed, I blame Argentinian parodies.
Should I make a counter for every time Shun has been compared to a girl/called maiden? idr him being feminized as much in the manga. and the times where he would be "feminized" were… pretty tame tbh.
There's this part abt the history of Sicily which includes THE WHOLE Italy independency History and I'm like. Am I reading a Saint Seiya light novel or a Hetalia fanfiction? like???
Mei: What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Sicily? Seiya: The mafia. Mei: It's because of The Godfather, isn't it?
I KNOW IT'S A NOD TO THE FACT KURUMADA LOVES THOSE MOVIES, NO I WILL NOT STOP TALKING ABT IT.
It's also curious though that Mei mentions mafia being sort of a taboo topic within Italy (it is, I was actually surprised they'd done this much research into it), and also the mention that economically Sicily is better off than mainland. That kind of thing (satellite[?] islands being better off than mainland) seems to be a pattern????
idk if it was the translation or smth but Saori got called a whore???? my jaw was literally on the floor, what the heck.
My honest to god reaction to reading Hyoga jumping in to save Shun: UN LOBO SIEMPRE PROTEGE A SU LOBA, AUUUUUU
like ofc the maiden in distress trope w Shun used to bother me sosososo much a couple of years ago, especially bc of the damage it did to the mainstream audience's perception of Shun's character, but at this point i learned to accept it as it is: fanservice. Man the anime team used to feed us three-course meals everytime Shun and Hyoga appeared together on camera, huh?
Hyoga: Are you ok, Shun? Thaos: He's about to die, actually. Hyoga: I wasn't talking to you.
Shun about to faint!!!! Hyoga: You've lost a lot of blood. You shouldn't move like that, rest up a little. Shun: I'm fine. Hyoga, smiling: If you say so. But that doesn't mean much coming from you.

Because of the countless retconed on where Saint Seiya takes place i decided to Give each series their own time period, this could be from how Kuru and Other Authors can’t make up their mind about some numbers but whatever here’s my headcanon on what time does each series takes place.
Mangas
•Original Manga, Next Dimension (Present): January-April 1990
(Originally it was 1986 but because of Next Dimension saying that it’s set on the year 1990, the dates had changed. Nevertheless, all arcs like Sanctuary, Poseidon, Hades takes place in just a few months. Why I say this simple I calced the dates using Julian Solo’s birthday (March 21) as Reference and the dialogue that was said that it’s been a month since the 12 houses Battle and it was 10 days after the world wide flooding started in March 24. So doing this Math it would be in April 3. So the Sanctuary Battle took place in March 3)
•Episode G: Spring 1979
(In the first chapter said March 28, 1979, and in the original summary said it’s 7 years before the events of Classic but Okada used the old Date of 1986 as guideline)
• Next Dimension (Past): Spring 1750
(It says that it’s been 240 years instead of 243, so by that logic it’s in 1750 where the Holy War of the 18th Century takes place. Now why Spring? Simple the Holy War of the 20th Century took place in April, 1990.)
•The Lost Canvas: Spring 1747
(Since LC is said to be an alt version of the Holy War of the 18th century, you could say takes place around the same dates however in the epilogue it said 243 years, so LC’s Holy War is 3 years earlier than ND’s Holy War)
•Saintia Sho: December 1983-March 1984
(Ok I know it’s said that Saintia Sho takes place around the Sanctuary Arc and Before the Poseidon Arc. However there are some issues like Baby Shoko and Kyoko escaping with Mayura during Aiolos escape (Which I said in a previous post took place on September 12-13) and their Birthdays are on December 10, so Shoko is 9 months older than Saori and Kyoko 2 years and 9 months and they were 13 and 15 respectively at beginning of the Story. And why 1984 instead of 1990 or even 1986? In Saintia Shoko memories the invitation of the Galaxian Wars said the date 1984, now this could be a mistake of Kuori, but till it’s changed. Saintia Sho takes place in the early 80s)
•Episode G Assassin: 2013
(It’s said in an interview that GA takes place post 2012 as the Tokyo Tower has been built and Smartphones are a thing so it should be set in 2013 at the very least)
•Episode G Requiem: 2014-2017
(The first part it’s said to have happened 1 years ago after the end of EG Assassin, and then there was the 3 year time skip)
•Dark Wing: 2020
(Ok I know in the prolouge it’s said it’s been 1 year since the accident but we are told that because the Elysium has a different time space continuum, it’s been a year in the Elysium while in the real world it’s been only a month)
Now with the mangas now dealt with, let’s go with the anime continuity.
Animes
Classic Series and Movies: October 1986-April 1987
(I say that the Classic Anime started in October 1986 and ended in April cuz that’s how it emited in TV. Besides even trough there were countless changed from the source material after all they were made around the same time. But I still keep that the Poseidon Arc ended in April 4th)
Hades OVAs: April 5th-April 16th, 1987
(I’ll explain in Soul of Gold the time you see, I say that Hades happened right after Poseidon so literally the next day they had to fight against the Specters)
Soul of Gold: April 13th-April 16th, 1987
(Apparently in the Underworld and Elysium have different time flows as Lyfia told Aioria that the Grand Eclipse has been on Earth for a Week. While Hades said that it would take a few minutes to be completed. Nevertheless because the events of the Asgard Arc of the Classic series was taken in account takes place in the same continuity)
Tenkai Hen Overture: April 1987
(As Omega said be taking in account this movie. The start of the Battle between Athena vs the Gods will still take place in April of the same year)
Saint Seiya Omega: Dec 1988-Jan 1989/2002
(Ok this is gotta be the most tricky one so far as there’s no confirmation of the dates and no, that whole takes place 25 years after the Classic Series doesn’t apply as doesn’t exist from all I have searched. But since the Saints of Omega are from the 21st Century at very least should be the 2000s. Why the early ones well I used the whole 13 years stuff that we were told. Assuming that Ryuho Bd is in libra like his dad, would mean he was born in October 1989. so he would be 12 in April 2002. As we are confirmed that Koga entered to pallestra post Spring Break. Since i don’t think a year passed between Season 1 and 2 I’ll say that took place in the same year)
Saintia Sho Anime: October 1986
(Even trough it doesn’t form part of the anime canon due to it’s contradiction of the ending of Sanctuary. Sho should be in a parallel to the events of it.)
Others
Gigantomachy: Summer 1986 (It’s suppossedly said that takes place between Poseidon and Hades however in the first Chapter it says it’s in Summer instead of Spring. So this can’t be, neverthenless due begin a parallel World it doesn’t take place in the series but likely used the old date as refence)
Legend of Sanctuary: Sep 1998-Sep 2014
(I’ll say that Legend of Sanctuary takes place in the date it was debuted begin of 2014 as we are told that Saori had become 16 years old. Assuming her BD is the same (Sep 1), we could say that the Escape of Aiolos happened in September 1998. The ages of the Bronzes are Seiya and Shun at 16, Hyoga and Shiryu at 17 and Ikki at 20)
KOTZ: 2019
(Same statement as LoS i think that the KOTZ CGI series takes place in 2019. Saori/Sienna is confirmed be 20 so the escape of Aiolos happened in September 1999. The ages for the Bronze are Seiya at 18, Hyoga/Magnus, Shiryu/Long at 19, Shaun at 17 and Ikki/Nero at 20)
Live Action: 2023
(Due to begin the most recent new product the Live Action movie takes place in 2023 with Seiya at 18 and Saori/Sienna at 17-20)
Anyways those are the dates so far, i might do a redo in the future but oh what the hell, enjoy

Edit 2: There is also Next Dimension which is the official sequel but its not really a spin-off

“When I grow up, I’m going to be like you.” Deathmask turned a fearsome gaze on the little bugger. He didn’t think the kid would still be following him. The climb was steep, the terrain harsh and the air filled with volcanic ash. It was barely more breathable than the air in the kingdom of the dead.

What do you think of Coma Berenices Mei from Gigantomachia?
I think Mei is a very interesting character. I really don’t have much to say and I’m sorry for that (I have to read Gigantomachia more thoroughly as soon as I have time), but Mei is definitely one of the most interesting characters I like.
I love the backstory of Mei being Kido’s firstborn but still not wanting to be treated somewhat different from everyone else, and you can be assured I am delighted by Deathmask being Mei’s master. I don’t know why, I just like this thing.
Also, his Cloth? It’s so cool that his Cloth is of unknown kind. I love how that armor is unique, and I love how Mei uses it to fight.
All in all, what I think can be summed up in a couple words: I love Mei. And that’s it.  This may be a weak opinion, especially considering how thorough I am with my opinions, but there’s nothing else to say other than this. Mei is just a character I love, and that’s it.

Broken masks, broken paths.
@shiapolux
Empezaba a ponerse nervioso. Extrajo una petaca del bolsillo de la sudadera y echó un trago. El licor, frío y seco, bajó por su garganta, en un vano intento de calmar su propia ansiedad. Miró en derredor, el entrecejo fruncido con expresión preocupada.
“Vamos, Mei, ¿dónde diablos te has metido?”, pensó.

Spin-off female Saints in Saint Seiya Awakening
The months passed and I never commented how impressed I got with the Saint Seiya Awakening game and how much I loved it!!! I mean, I still do, it’s just that I got to a point that’s it’s hard for me to advance so I admit I haven’t been playing as much lately...
Now, I do have one design complaint, which is regarding the spin-off ladies.
On one hand the game could have only done the classic characters and be done with it, so it’s really cool they decided to include more female characters - and pulling them from Saintia Sho (plus one from Lost Canvas)!!! I mean, wow!!!
On the other hand they did them....like that. Excuse my rant. Ahem.
They didn’t make them in their official cloths. They barely gave them armor!!! They’re wearing random clothes?? The classic Saints have alternative skins which has then on random clothes, but these girls?? Both skins are random clothes. They all wear like...minimal armor. With the exception of one of them.
Not to mention they didn’t even drew them like their official selves!
OK, Yuzuriha is similar. Xiaoling has the odangos and Chinese theme going on. Mayura wears (half??) a kimono but only one of her eyes is covered.
Katya has...the same hair color. Mii and Erda have......long and short hair, respectively.
Xiaoling and Mii are in short “cute” clothes when they are supposed to be in armor. I doubt Mii would even wear those clothes, it’s not her style. And she has a weird reverse cleavage?? Like, it’s open from the center of her chest then it goes down instead of up??? wtf
And Katya is over there looking like a magical girl, which...would have been really cool as an alternative skin (though from what I’ve seen of Sho it makes me question if the poofy skirt fits her), but it shouldn’t be her default look!!! The dress is also unnecessarily low, with some boob showing up, how is that battle attire?
Erda’s cloth and clothes do look cool, she just...doesn’t look nothing like the actual Erda. She doesn’t even have a fire theme in her attacks! A completely new character by the same name.
Weirdly there’s no Shoko? More expensive maybe? But c’mon, you got all her gang... Anyway
Like I said before, Yuzuriha look is not that much different from the original, but a glaring change is that they changed her leg armor for stockings. There is overall a little less armor in the other parts too.
Not to mention most of the women are animated as either cutesy or sexy even when it has nothing to do with the way they are. :/
So yeah, basically they just used these girls’ names and constellations, a few of their characteristics, and made new characters. Like they took one look as reference and then drew them. Sometimes didn’t even look.
Copyrights? Maybe, but seriously, they are already paying for that many classic characters, if you’re taking this handful of women from the spin-offs, do them right too... Or at least draw them more fairly! Most of the designs are cool by themselves actually, but again, over half don’t look like not them, and the different treatment in clothing/armor is not fair. Just clearly male designers wanting to make them cute/sexy.
It seems even their own original female saint looks more reasonable, this Sextant Luna (though I think it’s a lost opportunity not to call her Sextant Yuri, from Gigantomachia. Though maybe it’s not worth it to pay the copyrights to such a small reference? Anyways)
Also you would have a hard time playing with an all-female group since most of the girls are support... So like, you will use at least one of them in your group, yes, but mostly/all girls? I doubt it
Anyway, yeah, I just felt like I had to point this out. I loved the game!! But this thing in it? I noticed. It bothered me. Thanks for the inclusion! But like....let’s make it better next time, okay? okay.
