The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has acquired defenseman Henri Jokiharju (joh-kee-HARH-yoo) from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Alexander Nylander.
Jokiharju (6'0", 193 lbs., 6/17/1999) made his NHL debut in 2018-19, posting 12 assists in 38 games for the Blackhawks. He also recorded 17 points (2+15) in 30 AHL games for the Rockford IceHogs and his .57 points per game ranked eighth among rookie AHL defensemen with more than 20 games played.
A native of Oulu, Finland, Jokiharju made two appearances in international tournaments for Finland in 2018-19, winning a gold medal at both the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship and the 2019 IIHF World Championship. His five points (2+3) and plus-6 rating in seven games both ranked third among World Juniors defensemen. He also played for Team Finland at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship and won a gold medal with Finland at the 2016 IIHF World U18 Championship.
"Henri is a young, mobile defenseman who has shown he can compete at the NHL level," Sabres General Manager Jason Botterill said. "His international success last season only furthered his development and we are excited to add him to our current group of defensemen."
Drafted by Chicago in the first round (29th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft, Jokiharju was named to the Western Conference Second All-Star Team in 2018 after recording 71 points (12+59) in 63 games for the Portland Winterhawks (WHL). He posted 119 points (21+98) in 134 career WHL games before making his professional debut last season.

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has re-signed defenseman Ryan Graves to a one-year contract for the upcoming 2019-20 season.
Graves, 24, recorded five points (3g/2) and a +4 plus/minus rating in 26 games for the Avalanche this past season. The Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, native made his NHL debut on Dec. 27 at Vegas and registered his first NHL goal on Jan. 4 against the New York Rangers. As a rookie in 2015-16, Graves led all Hartford defensemen with nine goals and added 12 assists for 21 points, earning a selection to the AHL All-Star Game.
Prior to turning pro, Graves played four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 2011-2016, totaling 86 points (25g/61a) in 245 games with the Prince Edward Island Rocket, Charlottetown Islanders, Val-d'Or Foreurs and Quebec Remparts. The 6-foot-5, 226-pound blueliner served as an alternate captain with both the Islanders (2013-14) and the Remparts (2014-15) and helped Val-d'Or capture the President's Cup as league champions in 2014.
Graves competed in consecutive Memorial Cup tournaments in 2014 and 2015. At the 2015 tournament, he was tied for second in scoring among defensemen with five points (2g/3a) in five games to earn a spot on the Memorial Cup All-Star team.

NEW YORK - The New York Rangers announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Kaapo Kakko on an entry-level contract.
Kakko, 18, skated in 45 games with TPS of Liiga (Finnish Elite League) this past season, registering 22 goals and 16 assists for 38 points, along with a plus-one rating and 10 penalty minutes. Kakko's 22 goals in 2018-19 were the most any U18 player has registered in one season in the history of Finland's top league, breaking the record of 21 set by Aleksander Barkov in 2012-13. In addition, Kakko's 38 points this past season were the third-most in one season by a U18 player in the history of Finland's top league, trailing only Barkov (48 in 2012-13) and Mikael Granlund (40 in 2009-10).
The 6-3, 195-pounder was named the Rookie of the Year in Liiga in 2018-19. Kakko tied for sixth in Liiga (and led all rookies) in goals during the past season. He also tied for second in the league in game-winning goals (seven). Kakko led TPS in goals and game-winning goals, tied for second on the team in shot attempts (228), and tied for third in points this past season, and he also ranked second among team forwards in average ice time in 2018-19 (18:11). He ranked third among all Liiga rookies (and led Liiga rookie forwards) in average ice time during the past season. Kakko also skated in five games with TPS during the 2019 Playoffs, registering four goals and one assist for five points. His four goals during the 2019 Playoffs were tied for the second-most by a U18 player in one year in the history of Liiga (Patrik Laine holds the record - 10 during the 2016 Playoffs). Kakko tied for fourth among all players in Liiga - and led all rookies in the league - in goals during the playoffs this past year. Including the playoffs, he registered 20 points (14 goals, six assists) over his final 18 games of the season.
