Ryan Gainer was a 15 year old Autistic Black boy who was shot and killed by police in California.
Ryan seemed to have been having a meltdown, he was holding a gardening tool, police were called to the house but they are refusing to release any body cam footage of the shooting and refusing to state how many times Ryan was shot, they failed to help him before the paramedics arrived.
After shooting him Ryan's family was then forced out of their home while the police rummaged through their house looking for any justifiable cause for shooting Ryan.
This is hardly the first time the San Bernardino police department has attacked or killed people having a mental health crisis.

please when you talk about ryan, stop trying to set him apart from his autism. he was a black autistic child who was only 15, he wanted to drive so he could help his mother out. he wanted to be normal, he wanted to be normal.. he wanted to be so many things and the police cut his life short, i think about him everyday because what if that happens to me? would i like it if no one cares that the police KILLED me and only focused on one part of my identity. he was black, he was autistic, he was a joy to be around, he had a smile on his face and no one will ever see him smile again. how does that you feel? y’all don’t even talk about him despite y’all being the mentally ill queer disabled site.
WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE FOR HIM? WHERE IS IT
Tumblr media
please talk about him, please talk about him
your silence speaks so loud

Black neurodivergent children deserve to have meltdowns without being killed by the police.
Ryan Gainer should still be alive.
Rest in peace Ryan Gainer 🙏🏾🕊❤️

This, coupled with the murder of Jordan Neely last year, there needs to be a conversation about the intersectionality between disability and Blackness, and how disabled Black men are demonized. Here are some readings:

My heart is broken for Ryan Gainer. No one deserves to die simply for being black and autistic. We must fight for the rights of all autistics, because no one will do it for us.
It is so close to autism awareness month, and my heart hurts knowing just how many people face the same discrimination for simply having a disability and being a POC.
I urge everyone to share and reblog as many posts as they can. Get the internet’s attention! Because we need everyone if we are going to continue the fight for justice for Ryan Gainer.
Rest in Power, Ryan Gainer

“Rest in Power, Ryan Gainer. PLEASE stop calling the p*lice on autistic and otherwise disabled people having an episode. De-escalation training is something we all *need* to invest in as people throw the word abolition. This didn't have to happen...... And this isn't shaming his parents. I'm certain they loved him & resorted to the last tool at their disposal, a purposely flawed one. That's why we need to fortify our own so we don't need to resort to the p*lice. I can't imagine their sorrow.”

it's terrible what happened to Nex, but i havent seen anyone talking about Ryan Gainer, the 15 year old black autistic boy who was killed by a cop while having a meltdown because he was holding a gardening tool.
his family was kicked out of their house so that cops could search for a reason he was dangerous to justify killing him.
i don't think we should stop talking about Nex, but please talk about Ryan, too.

I don't know how to emphasize that just because someone does something wrong, doesn't mean they should die for it.
People trying to justify Nex Benedict's death by saying he threw water at those girls, I don't give a shit, being splashed with water doesn't mean you should beat someone to death, I don't care whether or not Nex started the fight, they shouldn't have died for it.
People trying to justify the police killing Ryan Gainer, multiple cops against one disabled child having a meltdown, if Ryan was charging at one cop the others could've tackled him, not shoot him three times and leave him bleeding out on the ground while they search his house.
Doing something wrong or making a mistake should not end in our deaths.

so tired of this shit
“There are great questions as to whether it was appropriate to use deadly force against a 15-year-old autistic kid who was having an episode,” said DeWitt Lacy, a civil rights lawyer representing the family. “We need to see the video and the moment of the shooting … but it doesn’t seem like anyone was in imminent danger of death or great bodily injury.”
...  In February, the Los Angeles police department fatally shot a man who was holding a plastic fork, which followed a string of incidents in which LAPD officers shot people with harmless objects in their hands, including a phone, a bike part and a car part."

California officer shoots and kills boy, 15, holding gardening tool
Civil rights advocates call for release of police bodycam video after Ryan Gainer killed on Saturday by deputy responding to 911 call
The San Bernardino county sheriff’s department was responding to a 911 call on Saturday from a family reporting that a boy, identified as Ryan Gainer, was attacking his family at their home in Apple Valley, east of Los Angeles. The department said he was holding a 5ft gardening tool and approaching the first deputy who arrived at the scene when the deputy shot him. Gainer was later taken to a hospital where he died. A lawyer for the family said Gainer was a cross-country runner who had autism and said the fatal shooting did not appear to be warranted.
[...]
A department spokesperson said it would not be releasing full body-camera footage on Monday and declined to say where Gainer was shot, how many bullets were fired and if multiple deputies had shot him. The spokesperson also declined to name the deputies on scene and said the case was still under investigation. “There are great questions as to whether it was appropriate to use deadly force against a 15-year-old autistic kid who was having an episode,” said DeWitt Lacy, a civil rights lawyer representing the family. “We need to see the video and the moment of the shooting … but it doesn’t seem like anyone was in imminent danger of death or great bodily injury.” Lacy said it appeared Gainer was potentially hit with three bullets, including in his torso and abdomen. He said he was concerned that the department had refused to disclose the footage of the final moments of the shooting and the aftermath: “We understand the gamesmanship that is involved when municipalities err and kill people unnecessarily.” The family also reported that the deputies delayed helping Gainer after he was shot, Lacy said. He said: “They have to give medical aid to this 15-year-old they just shot and it certainly seems they failed to do that.” The sheriff department’s initial press release said deputies “quickly rendered medical aid” before paramedics arrived. Lacy said the family also reported that after the shooting, the family was forced out of the home while officers “rummaged through their house looking for any justification for shooting and killing Ryan”.

i mean honestly you wanna know how i know that white people only see Black Lives Matter as a trend and not literally people who are being killed by the police? take one scroll through the tag on here, you’ll see porn bots, a white religious person preaching that because the statistic for white man deaths is so low and the black man deaths (mind you black women and children are being killed like blatant misgynoir n just ageism) is so high but “why are Black Lives Matter people caring about the black lives??”, a bunch of hindi posts and occasional actual posts about black lives
like c’mon y’all white people be sayin that this site isn’t racist but LOOK ryan gainer died, ain’t heard much of an uproar as nex’s got and he was autistic, nex was trans but the mentally ill site cares more about one or the other. nex and ryan deserved to live happy lives yes, but i saw more of those “nex deserved to grow up!” posts than for ryan, they were around the same age, nobody talkin bout that. y’all really posted about him for a few hours and then nothing, y’all posted about nex for weeks on end, providing resources but i have yet to see any sympathy, causes that talk about and help victims police brutality.
what do we as black people have to say get y’all to care about everyone? to care about us for more than a day, you see with ryan that the police killings did not stop in 2020-2021, THEYRE STILL GOING

How Autism Can Look Like Violence, Rest In Power Ryan Gainer, #BlackLivesMatter
Should police officers be re-trained for awareness around autism patients and patients of mental health? Should they just be more aware about young Black males in general? Ryan Gainer, a teen with autism, was a cross-country runner who worked out his frustrations with six-mile runs and dreamed of becoming an engineer. On a Saturday afternoon earlier this month, the 15-year-old became upset that…
