Elderly Elves part 3: Runil (revised)
If you saw the previous post, pretend you didn't. I gave him a fancy ear.
I really like the character Runil, the priest of Arkay in Falkreath, and his backstory. I wanted to make his appearance reflect his past of being a Thalmor battlemage during the Great War.
He now has battle scars along the left side of his face, a blind eye, and a mutilated ear. His other eye is clouded with age. He sports a custom hair mashup.

Here's some food for thought:
Runil's cut content reveals he was part of the Thalmor, and was "chosen" to join due to his prowess with destruction magic.
He never went into details if he was allowed to say "no".
And it's also implied that he's hiding from the Thalmor after he served in the Great War. Once you're in, you're in for life.
There have also been mention of "reeducation" on Summerset if an Altmer doesn't walk the Altmer walk.
This makes me wonder if some members of the Thalmor are there unwillingly.

I guess it’s obvious at this point that Florentius Baenius is my favourite TESV NPC but while we’re on the topic...literally every priest of Arkay in this game has something going for them.
- Runil (Falkreath): Ex-thalmor just trying to make amends he needs a hug i love him also has prophetic dreams about you bc why the fuck not
- Andurs (Whiterun): Looney-tunes level of incompetence (babes, not only did you lose your amulet but there are literal skeletons roaming the hall of the dead isn’t it entirely your job to prevent that??)
- Alessandra (Riften): At least 3 different strains of daddy issues and in serious need of a holiday. Also apparently unaware of a grave being used as a highway to the sewers beneath her...
- Verulus (Markarth): Apparently quite tasty™
- Helgird (Windhelm): "Well, she's dead. But I guess that's not unusual, at least not for somebody in here. I mean, someone who's not me, that is.” what a Queen 10/10 job-appropriate sense of humour.
- Styrr (Solitude): Would likely be the most stable of the lot if it weren’t for, ya know, an undead Wolf Queen trying to come back from the grave. Someone get this man a coffee he is tIRED.
I think Arkay has a type and that type is Not Quite Right

NO YKNOW WHO SHOULD ADOPT TALIESIN??
Runil.
After all the shit that this mer has been through with his own pops, a nice quiet life in the sticks is just what he needs. Granted, he has a very expensive taste, but hey, his best friend is the Dragonborn, who is LOADED. They’d build him a house themselves, no sweat, import all the Alinor bougie goodies, and let Runil guide Taliesin on how to live a gentle, quiet life as an ex-Thalmor. Obviously he wouldn’t go the priest route, likely more of a spellsword wayward traveler deal, but the type of guidance from an elder man of his own race who was in the exact same military group he was in would be so healing for him i just know it

Top 10 Skyrim Characters
tagged by @ark-sided, thank you for tagging me.
Minor characters edition. Not in a particular order. Long post.
Fultheim He's just some guy stay at the Nightgate Inn, who happened to carried a Blades sword. Totally not suspicious at all, haha. When you asked him about the the Gourmet, he'd tell you "He just wants to be left alone. But no… that's not really it. It's like… he wants to talk. Likes people and all. But he stays separate, because he's supposed to. Kind of sad, really." and I was like NO U! You're lonely and sad. You want to hang but you're trying to hide from the Thalmor! You're talking about yourself!
Einarth He's one of the Greybeards. They all took a vow of silence. When Arngeir refused to help us, he yelled at him, just because I'm the Dragonborn. Thank you, master Einarth.
Sondas Drenim He's a miner in Darkwater Crossing. He noticed his colleagues have bad coughs. He saw this before and knew what to do. He immediately wrote a letter to White Phial for medicines. He's so nice and caring.
Orgnar He works in the Sleeping Giant Inn. Tired of Delphine bossing around. Same as us.
Legate Fasendil He is a High Elf and the Imperial Legion officer in the Rift Imperial Camp. Most officers in camps don't talk much, but he has a lot of stories to share. We can talk about war, his home, his opinion, some history, and the battle at Hammerfell.
Alethius He is dead. His body can be found at the entrance to Nchuand-Zel. He's probably killed by Nimhe, the Poisoned One. According to his death scene, and my mediocre detective skill. The researchers were under attacked by frost spiders. He escorted all of them through the door safely (for now, or then) and closed it from the outside, battled the spiders and died like a hero. Rest in peace, soldier.
Talsgar the Wanderer He brings the music out of cities to everyone across the world. One time I request a song at Darkwater Crossing, everyone lives here gather to listen his music. I really appreciate that. He's strong, too. He can defend himself effortlessly. He's good with sword. He can cast Stoneflesh, Lesser Ward and Healing spells. He's just so cool.
Fjola She is a Nord warrior and the bandit leader of Mistwatch. She kinda just dump her old husband but left without a word. She found some bandits, beat them to submission and become their leader.
Aventus Aretino "Aren't you a little young to do the Black Sacrament?" "Yes. Yes I am."
Runil He's a priest of Arkay in Falkreath. He's an old kind elf respected and loved by all. From Falkreath to Skaal, people put him in their mind. He try his best to hide his history of being a leader of Aldmeri battlemages. He regrets and ashamed of what he did back in the Great War. Strangely, Runil seems to had a prophetic dream of dragons and the Dovahkiin. Like what? Who you really are and what does it all means?

Favorite Skyrim elves and why?
If you had to live in Skyrim, what do you think you’d be eating?
Irl topic—
Do you think sorcery should be illegal?
It is, where I’m from.
I’d say my favorite Skyrim elves would be:
-Sondas Drenim, you can meet him in Darkwater crossing, he’s the sweet dark elf miner who cares about his fellow miners and he also babysits a little girl
-Ondolmar, the Thalmor justiciar in Markarth
-Ancano, Thalmor advisor at the college in Winterhold (even tho I wanna kick his ass so bad every time I see him breathing)
-Faendal, Wood elf in riverwood
-Runil, Altmer in Falkreath, former Thalmor
-Teldryn Sero, dark elf mercenary you can hire in Raven rock, I like his comments he makes about the different places you’d visit
-Neloth, master wizard of house Telvanni, I just really like when he says “now where did I put it… OH YEAH-“ crazy bag of bones
-Gelebor, I just wanna hold him aight?!?, he’s so nice- and always so happy to see you when you return- ughh the things I’d do to this mer- I mean what?-
Now if I had to live in Skyrim, I’d probably be eating a lot of soups and growing my own food, I like the farming lifestyle that comes with the Hearthfire DLC, plus I like gardening
And as for Sorcery, I really have no preference as long as it’s not like destroying my community, where I live I don’t think many people even care, a close friend of mine is even a descendent of an old Coven.

Would you like to draw Runil (Skyrim) for me? Or Calcelmo if you prefer 🙂

Sad old brooding elf on cemetery.
I need a whole black/gothic/fantasy metal album with that cover art.

Thanks for this recommendation, it's been a while since I drew something dark :D

i've always found it sort of funny that skyrim acknowledges that the red year (which happened two hundred years before the events of the game) would have resulted in an influx of dunmeri refugees to neighboring countries but doesn't really acknowledge that many altmer, bosmer, and khajiit would be fleeing the dominion's oppressive regime (which is still actively consolidating power during the events of the game). the plight of the dunmer is treated as ongoing and current but apart from malborn and i guess runil i can't think of any refugee characters from alinor or valenwood. none at all from anequina or pelletine

Drew a small, quick graphite* portrait of my favourite priest of Arkay.
*I use Staedler Mars Lumograph Black pencils, which have charcoal mixed in, hence less shine and darker black.

The Man, the Priest, the Legend: Florentius Baenius
We don't talk about my guy Florentius enough and he doesn't have enough lore in game so FUCK IT. I gave him some because I don't know if I'll get to go over it in my fanfiction [specifically, the Great War stuff. Fingers crossed that I do, but in case I don't, that's what this post is for].
Yes I do in fact believe that his connection to Arkay is, in fact, real. Some of the shit he says is uncanny, and the other shit is downright scary. It isn't unheard of for Divines to speak to mortals [remember the quest where you save a little Karthwasten girl named Fjotra from Forsworn, only for her to become the new sybil of Dibella?], so it isn't too much of a stretch to say Arkay gives Florentius all the tea on everyone around him.
Florentius can train the player in Restoration, and he's the guy you go to for alchemy ingredients. He's a healer, and damn good at it. He's old enough--in my mind--to have served some time in The Great War, where he no doubt mastered these abilities and witnessed some truly awful and gruesome scenes. I imagine he got into the war after his fall out with Isran, which makes it extra painful [and I love painful]. He of course rejoined the Vigilants after, as he didn't know what else to do.
That being said, I don't think Arkay was ALWAYS with him. Rather, I think Arkay came to him after The Great War. Runil, the grave tender from Falkreath, turned to worshipping Arkay after the war on the side of the Thalmor. Florentius, then, most likely knows Runil, and perhaps they're even friends after sharing a similar experience.
Going back to Isran, they're ex-boyfriends. They have the chemistry! And I just can't ignore the 'goofy sunshine and grumpy asshole' trope and I love them being a bit of a parallel to Vigdis and Serana. Of course in my fanfiction they get back together because, well. I can. The way Isran is just so ANNOYED when you ask him about bringing Florentius to the fort is too funny. I love annoying the man whenever possible what can I say--
Anyway. Due to Florentius' knowledge in the healing arts AND his connection to Arkay, he's very capable of performing miracle-level bullshit if he's desperate enough. I won't spoil my fanfiction, but he does exactly that . . . with a bit of intervention from another Divine as well. [Someone really didn't want her to die.]
OH, and because of his experiences in The Great War, I think that's often why Florentius is . . . goofy. Funny. Sarcastic. It's how he copes with the trauma. When he is serious, the entire room seems to shift and it's just .. . so good. I don't know the voice actor's name, but serious props to him for accomplishing so much emotion just through voice. It's fantastic.
If you didn't want to read all of that: basically, Florentius is easily my second favourite NPC in Skyrim, if DLCs are included. EASILY. He's awesome and I love him.
