Okay Rumple headcanons:

I like to think he’s brilliant at making soup. Any soup- all homemade, all super creamy and flavourful. It’s always just the right texture and maybe he even has a personalised cookbook with his soup recipes in (in which he adds homemade bread recipes too)

Can and will knit when he’s anxious and away from his spinning wheel

His favourite colour is a dark purple-red, because it makes him think of the dagger and so makes him feel powerful. His second favourite colour is light blue because it makes him think of Belle

Wants a pet dog to have with Belle but is scared shitless of the damned thing getting hurt in all of Storybrooke’s shenanigans

Wont admit it, but he wants to get to know Charming better. They deffo have a sort of friendship in the early seasons of the show, and I like to think that beneath his hostility, Rumple just yearns to be besties with Charming.

^^following this, after Gideon is re-born as a baby, I like to think that the hostility between Rumple and all of the Charming/Swan family disappears and he has picnics with them- he and Charming have competitions about who is the better grandfather

Rumbelle headcanons:

Alike Rumple, Belle has anxiety and stims with her hands when she’s anxious. Her go to method is twirling her wedding ring on her finger- it makes her feel safe

It’s unsaid but they both want a daughter. However after Gideon is re-born they’re just so relieved that their son is back in their arms, safe again, that they don’t even try for another pregnancy in fear of losing that child (Neal)

Belle can bake, Rumple can cook. Rumple can’t bake, Belle can’t cook.

Rumple likes detective films. Belle likes rom-coms. They both adore the Knives Out movies

Belle likes to sleep in in the mornings, whereas Rumple gets up early. The only exception is when he’s having a bad flare up with his chronic pain in his ankle

Sometimes Rumple picks up on traces of Lacey in Belle’s attitude. Maybe she glares at someone or she snaps at him, and a little part of him gets super turned on at the thought

Nominations 2024

Good morning all... no, don't panic, we are not announcing the end of the nominations period. As we said yesterday, we've extended until midnight on 26th January.

In the spirit of continued transparency, the reasons for this are many. Firstly, we've had requests to extend the nominations period because people just haven't had a chance to get to it, and we WANT to give the fandom a voice, so if granting a couple more days can do that, we're fine with that, and using the form allows us to compile quickly. Secondly, writers have not all had the time to make the usual FYC posts for this year, and that ties in with the third good reason for extending the nomination period - new fandom members! We've had a lot of new Rumbellers join us this year who may not be fully conversant with the process, and this helps them to get to grips with what they might want to nominate for this year.

New readers may not know the wealth of fics out there that are still eligible for nomination - aside from event fics (more on that later) - fics don't have to have been written in 2023 to be eligible for nominations. Don't know what's out there? Here are a couple of links to the nominations for LAST YEAR, and also PREVIOUS YEARS. Check them out if you're not sure what you want to nominate.

Finally, event fics. Fandom is changing, sometimes slowing down, but there are diehards out there who help keep the Rumbelle fandom alive by participating in events. For this reason, any fic written for a non-competitive event in 2023 will gain automatic nomination to the events category. So, if you wrote a Secret Santa, or did something for Fluffapalooza (fic or art) your entry will count, and we'll be trying our best to catch everything for the ballot.

If the prompt is a quote you can include it at any point, it doesn’t have to be the opening line.

If the prompt is the image moodboard (multiple images) you can be inspired by one of them, be inspired by two, be inspired by the lot, get a feeling from the thing and not one of the images specifically - it’s all good. There is no wrong way to approach this.

If the images on the moodboard are of Robert or Emilie’s non-rumbelle characters (eg Rush, Macavoy, Claire, Heiro…), don’t feel you have to use that character. They’re just there for a bit of variety.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

I've got 110, a lot of which aren't finished, but a lot of 'em are too.

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

It's only 871,727.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Once Upon A Time, Stargate Atlantis, Dragonheart, and Star Trek, though currently my AO3 is mostly Once. I've never gotten around to transferring anything else there much.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I respond to everything because if you took the time to write to me, I should take the time to write back to you.

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I haven't a clue on this one, but it is probably a Rumbelle fic.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I don't know this one either, but I bet it's also a Rumbelle fic.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not on AO3. Generally around competition times I will get hate messages, but that seems more like fear to me than anything else. Fear of missing out, fear of not being good enough, whatever. I don't read messages once I see that they are "hate" messages. I just delete them, so whoever it is gets to get that fear off their chest and it doesn't have a chance to tonspread much farther.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I didn't until the Monthly Rumbelling year, then I forced myself to do it. I don't enjoy doing it and I'm not good at it, so I tend to avoid it still.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Most of my Rumbelle fics have something tondo with Gargoyles because that is a Disney thing Disney forgot to include in Once and should have.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of. I'm not that good of an author. That doesn't mean it hasn't happened though.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Same as above.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yep. A bunch of us Rumbellers got together on a gift for a friend. I hope all of them include a link because Forbidden Loves and Stormy Nights was so much fun to work non.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

Can't answer this. You can't pick one over another. Trip and T'Pol? Michael and Teyla as it should have been? Rumbelle? I don't know.

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Most of them, at the rate I'm going right now... Rose Among Thorns is certainly one that won't get finished. Sadly the series where Michael.and Teyla get things FIXED instead of ruined for them probably won't get past the first episode either.

16. What are your writing strengths?

No clue. Though maybe turning prompts into something written should count here?

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Everything.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

If you speak it or know someone who does and you can trust they will be honest in checking it for you, yes. Go for it. It makes the story real.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Star Trek or Dragonheart. Not sure which technically came first.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

Dunno. Maybe Awake or Mountains, Streams, and Magical Things. Some of my individual one shots for the Choose Your Own Adventures are favorites too. And I've got a soft spot for my DragonHeart stuff too.

How wonderful to hear from you! I love this time of year, and RSS is one of my favorite events. Some of my best fics have come out of previous years Secret Santa. I shall try to answer your questions, and I hope that you don't think me weird by my answers.

In terms of art, hmmm... I guess you could say the more realistic the better, the more angsty the better (though with a happier ending). I don't necessarily have a favorite trope, what I /do/ enjoy is seeing the most written, most used, tropes written in a personalized and/or unique kind of way. It's like... I watched a show on Netflix the other day, one of those where a group of artists or skilled persons are in competition to be the last person standing. This was a bunch of mixologists, and their brief was to make a margarita that, "Didin't taste like every other maragita we've ever taste," (from the judges). That's what I'm like with tropes. So give me a "there was only one bed." or an "enemies/friends to lovers" fic, and make it with some kind of twist. And example from my own writing would be, Brought To You by the Color Blue. which essentially is a 'there was only one bed.' story, but... throw in a splash of hypothermia, that makes it - to me at least - a little bit unique, but still a trope. Does that make sense?

My inspiration comes from a lot of things. I've taken a few writing courses in my life, and as a teacher I teach young people to write (among other things), so I'm always looking for inspiration. Overheard conversations, dreams, random objects, prompts from other Rumbellers quite often, especially @peacehopeandrats, and lately, (mostly thanks to them), I find a lot of inspiration from books, not to plagiarize, but to 'Rumbelle.' (yes, it's a verb now). There have been at least two, maybe three instances of that, and I have a few in my WIP list that I haven't even started yet.

Music! Sometimes I will write to music, especially if I'm looking for a specific mood. In that case it's things like movie soundtracks, where there are no words, (or words that I can't understand), like on the Gladiator soundtrack. My favorite soundtrack authors are John Williams, Steve Jablonski, Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore and William Morris, (If you haven't heard A Howling Wilderness from The Tudors soundtrack and your looking for a mood of absolute desolation - that's your man, so to speak, (I'm sure you could find it on YouTube)). Bryan Tyler is another good one, and a little bit more obscure is a band called Two Steps From Hell. There music is often used in advertisements, and sometimes even in the Olympics. If I'm looking for music with words, my go tos are Peter Gabriel, (I once wrote a fic listening to one track of his specifically on repeat), Clannad, Sara McLachlan, and a Welsh singer called Sian James. Funny story about Ms. James. Her song Distaw inspired an original novel that I wrote, and each chapter of that novel - or each beat perhaps rather than chapter - has its own song associated, (Not just by James). I'm not sure which came first to be honest, the music or the plot points. Either way, the book was written, I self published and now my local library has a copy in circulation. (My claim to fame! LOL).

Kelyon’s Fics of 2020

Since TEA Time is here, I thought it would be a good idea to go through everything I wrote over the past year and, maybe, suggest what TEA categories they could, potentially, be nominated for. You know, just in case anyone wanted to check out my fics, And then, possibly, nominate them for a TEA or two. 

First things first, 2020 brought forth the conclusion of Golden Cuffs, my first novel length fanfic. In this story, Belle’s deal with Rumple is explicitly for her body. He can do anything to please or hurt her, and he insures her obedience with a pair of magical shackles. Anyone who wants just a taste can read Chapter 17, The Cap. This fic could be nominated for Best BDSM, Best Kink, or anything else of that ilk.

Once Golden Cuffs was done, I indulged in some one-shots set in that ‘verse. Trio: A Golden Cuffs Story  is five full chapters of relentless smut, featuring Rumple, Belle, and Jefferson doing almost everything it is possible for three people to do with their bodies. This would be a prime candidate for Best Threesome. I’m not sure if it qualifies for Best Rumbelle Poly Ship (because at the fic Jefferson goes back home to his wife). Try nominating it and see what happens!

Invocation: A Golden Cuffs Story is a one-shot where Rumple sees Belle for the first time and decides that he shall have her. I recommend this one for Best First Meeting and Best Dark One.

Game: A Golden Cuffs Story is some happy, fluffy, spanky smut. This is just Rumple and Belle, married in the Dark Castle, figuring out how they can love each other and be kinky at the same time. At the risk of being my own competition, I’ll ask that this be nominated for Best BDSM and Best Kink.

Nephila, otherwise known as the spider-pregnancy fic got some more chapters in 2020. This fic won the Rumbelle Monsterfuckers Ball category in 2019 so it is not eligible for any TEAs. But I put in some new chapters this year and I want people to known about it. 

Her Angel was my entry into the Rumbelle showdown this year. I got through two rounds and ended chapter two with a cliffhanger, so I had to keep going. This is my first time writing Spinner Rumple or Baelfire, so I’m going to suggest that this is the Best Of both of those categories. You might also consider it for Best First Meeting as well. (Right now this fic is on chapter three of four. I plan on finishing it in February when I do Camp NaNoWriMo)

And finally, Golden Rings. This is the sequel to Golden Cuffs. Under the curse, Mr. and Mrs. Gold are very married, very kinky, and very dysfunctional. Then Rumple meets Emma Swan and gets his memories back! He has to pick up the pieces of the wreckage the curse made out of his life and his marriage. And Mrs. Gold is left wondering what the heck happened to her husband. This work is unfinished (currently on chapter eight of around 30). But I still think it’s a strong contender for Best Storybrooke and Best AU!OUAT

Gotham Lockdown 2020

Part 17

Summary: What’s real?

Sitting, by the window as you watched the snow drift out of the sky you were happy with how Christmas was shaping up. Roman, was really trying to make it special. You still couldn’t believe that he had managed to find away for you to watch Gotham’s tree being put up.

Her phone, buzzed to life. She looked down, it was the woman she called her mother. Wow. The lockdown had been going on and she barely heard from her. Thanksgiving, had come and gone, never even heard from her. Probably, sentimental since Christmas was going to be there soon.

Sighing, she answered. Soon she regretted.

“You are spending it again with that killer?” She paused. “I raised you better then that.”

Hanging up, you had a headache. Getting, up you went over to lay on the sofas. Eventually, you let yourself drift off to sleep.

Feeling cooped up, stretching decided to take a walk around Roman’s building. Sure the two you had been an item for awhile now but you didn’t know everything in the building. Taking, the elevator down you decided to start in the basement.

Slowly, you walked Roman’s many cars. He had so many. Some were sporty, some where elegant and classy and some were rather powerful!

Behind, one of the more powerful cars you see a door. You had never really noticed it before. Going over you shrugging, probably just stores stuff to clean the cars. You turned the knob.

A light flickered on and you gasped. It was a large room. You couldn’t help but walk in.

To your right was an entire area was covered and held a slew of weapons. Continuing further in you were not terribly surprised when you saw more suits. Vaguely, you wondered if the were armored or were someway protective gear.

Seeing a large table it was a mass of blue prints, newspapers and photos. You could only shook your head.

You smiled as you spotted a very neat black desk. You were surprised to see a photo of you and him on it. Glancing it though, you brow wrinkled. You saw a few old, really clippings. One of your first interviews another was all the press you got for working with Bruce Wayne. Why would Roman still have it or even to begin with, we only had met that one time.

Shaking it off you picked up the frame that held the photo of the two of you, when they world wasn’t crazy, you mused putting back a black leather book fell over and opened.

Glancing at it, you saw Roman’s handwriting. Fliping through a few pages you noticed notes here and there about to bring one particular rival down. Turning back, towards the front of the book your curiosity was tickled.

Beautiful fucking girl with purple hair came into club. Brought her champagne but disappeared.

Saw girl with purple hair by chance with fucking Waynd. She ran off again. I am starting to think she is Cinderella.

Update, Three years later - She is doing wonders in Gotham. Her natural hair color much better then purple. Seen her work. Should hire her. She could do my office and me, you giggled as the last bit was crossed off.

Zsasz, completed background look. She is as lovely as ever. Maybe now, I could try and get to know her.

Update, kill or scare her fucking competition. He wants to her ruin her.

New update, her competition left her a horrible threatening letter. Kidnap plan ready

Fuck, Zsasz fucked up. Damn. She is amazing. I think I could love her. She is fiesty. I am still as attracted to her as I was when I met her.

“Y/N, what the fuck are you doing in here?”

You jumped and dropped the book.

“I saw a door and I was curious.”

“Well, this my and Zsasz’s private room. It’s the heart of my kingdom.”

“Oh!”

He grabbed you. “Well, now that you saw it get the fuck out.” He pushed towards the door.

“But Roman...”

“What did I say?” Rage burned in his eyes.

Roman, finally finished his calls. That was it. No more fucking business till after the new year. It was not worth the aggravation.

“Baby?” He looked in your studio. You weren’t there. He went out the living room. Hearing soft sounds, he walked further in.

His annoyance from business melted away. First, catching how the Christmas lights played off your face but then he saw your anguish. It looked like you were having another nightmare. Ever since being knocked out by that chloroform you’ve had some bad dreams.

Kneeling beside the sofa, he brushed some hair from your face. “Baby,” He whispered wake up. “Baby.”

When getting up a little, he leaning against the sofa, he bent down and gave you a kiss. “Baby, wake up.”

You stirred and pulled back. “Huh, what?”

He knelt down beside you. “You were having a nightmare again.” If had not killed them already, he’d kill them again.

Panting, you sat up on the sofa. “Oh Roman you were so mad at me.” You whimpered and threw your arms around him.

He sighed and held you tight. “I can’t even imagine being mad at you. What a stupid dream.”

You pulled back and nodded.

It did tickle his curiosity though. “Why was I angry? Did you take the last marshmallow, again?”

You smiled finally. “No, I went into the heart of your kingdom.”

“The heart of my kingdom? Seriously?” He shook his head

You nodded. “Only heart I know, is you.” He smiled at you.

“Roman, that is incredibly sweet.” And you hugged him again.” You nestled close. “But tell me, do you have a lair where you keep everything?”

He chuckled, “You curiosity is as bad as mine.” He stood up and drew you up against him. “You sure you wanna see it?”

“You have one?”

“Baby, my office is not enough for half of what Victor and I do.”

“Only if its ok with you?”

“Baby, if we’re going to be together till the end,” feeling a little poetic, he kissed where the ring rested on your finger. “I can show it to you now.”

“Rumple! Get in here!”

Rumplestiltskin dropped the pen he’d been using to fill outpaperwork and rushed upstairs where his wife Belle was yelling from.

Nights at the Gold home were usually quiet…that is untiltheir son Gideon began experimenting with his magic.

His spells were innocent enough for a one-year old, and thesite of a baby bottle floating up the stairs or the toys on his mobile doing adance in the boy’s crib was none too common.

Though the older Gideon got, the more his spells seemed toget more mischievous, as he found when he reached the bathroom to find his wifeholding their son up in his bathtub floatie, glaring at a pair of duelingrubber duckies.

Around them were all of Gideon’s bath toys having at it,fist fighting, bashing their rubber heads against each other, and one mermaidtoy was driving a plastic boat into an army of enchanted soap people.Rumplestiltskin was not going to be able to unsee that.

His beloved looked up at him exhaustedly as she fishedGideon out of the tub, wrapping him in a towel despite the small amount of sudson him.

“Could you,” she gestured to their chaotic bathroom.

Rumplestiltskin snapped his fingers and all of Gideon’s toysdropped lifelessly where they stood. The Dark One winced at the sound ofsomething dropping in the nearby toilet.

Gideon laughed in his mother’s arms, and Belle verycarefully handed the wet toddler to his father.

“For now on,” Belle growled as she tiptoed out of the wetbathroom in soaked clothes. “Bath time is your problem.”

70. Locked in a Room

Belle hated closed doors.

They were painful reminders of her days as a prisoner inRegina’s prison—both the one in the Enchanted Forest and in Storybrooke.

Years later, the site of a closed door still eased her into an anxiety attack, but with a five-year-old running about, it was best to keep asmany as possible. Though Belle always tried to have a window cracked open—justin case.

That was why the day Rumplestiltskin returned from a day offiling at his shop and dealing with the Charming’s insufferable antics and heheard Belle banging on the door, he was understandably frazzled.

“Belle!” he yelled up the stairs, taking them two at a timehas his mind went to the worst-case scenario.

Just as he was about to tear apart the very fabric of timeand space, the hall closet burst open and Belle stepped out, her finger overher lips.

He saw the look on her face—so that she was not panicked butextremely focused.

She quickly motioned him to the closet and grabbed him bythe sleeve, dragging him into the tight space and—to his shock—closing themboth in.

“That was close,” Belle gasped, pushing something around thefloor with her foot.

“What on earth—”

“Shh!” Belle shushed, listening out. Rumple could just pickup the sound of tiny feet running about.

“Gideon and I are playing hide-and-seek,” Belle explained.“He’s won the last two rounds and I am NOT losing again.”

Rumple held back a chuckle at his wife’s competitive side.Motherhood had certainly brought many new things out of her.

“Are you…comfortable?” he inquired, motioning in the dark attheir current surroundings.

Belle hummed. “I’m better now that I have company.”

Rumple felt her hand rub against his. He brought it to hislips, tasting her soft skin.

“You know,” he purred. “I could magic up a distraction forthe boy…just to give you a fair advantage.”

Belle giggled in the dark. “I suppose I could bear it herefor a while longer.”

Hi, so there is no Rumbelle Showdown in the Events awards?(

Is it at least available to nominate fics from Rumbelle Showdown even if the works weren't republished by the author anywhere? Or if the authors chose not to reveal their name? Just nominate them by their showdown name?

Hi there! There isn’t a dedicated Rumbelle Showdown category because the event is already a competition which has a winner. Having a category would be a little redundant.

But yes, you can absolutely nominate fics from the Showdown for other categories they might fit into! In cases where the writer chose not to reveal themselves, you can nominate on their showdown name. We won’t be able to tag them in the awards ceremony if they win, but if they tune in, they’ll be able to see it.

Can I just say a huge thank you to everyone involved in this Showdown, cos it was so much fun! Thank you so much to @jackabelle73 for organising it all. And thanks to the other authors for the stiff competition, and to everyone who made lovely comments about my stories. This was my first time doing a showdown and my first time writing for the Rumbelle fandom and I was so nervous going into it, but I had a great time! Can't wait to do it all again next year!

Summer Quarter Prompts

Apologies that these are a week late in coming, life has been a little bit crazy of late.  However, here are the prompts for May, June and July.

Please try not to post until it’s the correct month somewhere in the world. This helps to avoid confusion.

Just to remind people (though it is on the FAQ):

If the prompts are 3-5 words you don’t have to include all of them. Imaginary bonus points if you do :) but zero stress they just have to include a couple in some fashion so it fits the prompt.

If the prompt is a quote you can include it at any point, it doesn’t have to be the opening line.

If the prompt is the image moodboard (multiple images) you can be inspired by one of them, be inspired by two, be inspired by the lot, get a feeling from the thing and not one of the images specifically - it’s all good. There is no wrong way to approach this.

If the images on the moodboard are of Robert or Emilie’s non-rumbelle characters (eg Rush, Macavoy, Claire, Heiro…), don’t feel you have to use that character. They’re just there for a bit of variety.

Anyelle and anyem are welcome if you do want to use them, though!

if you are inspired by the gif prompt, similarly, your creativity is your only limit. It’ll be a real treat to see you might come up with.

One word, Many Meanings: Oh, this year's your Showdown fic was soooo hot! *fans myself* I think we don't always have so many E rated fics in Showdown, so your fic was a very nice spice of this year's great works! ;) How did you construct this WovenLace story by the prompt? Why did you choose WovenLace? What's your most favorite part of the story? :)

Thanks for the ask. I don't often write smut because I believe I am horrible at it (and for personal reasons) so to hear someone liked it makes me happy. It was the first time I ever did the showdown so I had no idea what to expect. I thought the competition would be smut speckled, so I figured writing smut would hide me among the participants. Lol That backfired.

As far as the prompt went, I am a prompt person. I spend my life being bombarded with prompts and stories that go with them. It is like putting on my shoes. I don't think about having to tie them, I just do it. So when I read "lost keys" I immediately saw weaver standing in the hallway of an apartment, hands patting his pockets, looking for his keys while Lacey watched and tried to distract him. The whole story came to me within a minute and I wrote it immediately. Of course, that left me with a predicament because I don't write AU. So the hardest thing was trying to figure out the next chapter, which I didn't get to post until after the competition completed. I still used prompts from the Showdown to inspire it and the plot came to me as before, including the twist at the end.

Not being a fan of AU is a huge problem in this Fandom, especially when there are so many wonderful AU writers out there that I absolutely adore. I am learning to enjoy what gets written, but don't ever imagine I could allow myself to follow along on that path. Which is a shame because Weaver and Lacey were MADE for each other and we never got them. One last FU to the Rumbellers from the show creators, I guess.

I don't know that I have a favorite part of the story other than getting to see WovenLace.
