The biggest problem I have with the Crow and Aki vs Sherry is oddly enough the same problem I have with Demack vs the twins, and its this: there are no personal stakes -- at least, not to the degree as the other duels.

Demack vs the twins? We know literally nothing about Demack. How did he become a Dark Signer? Why did he becoming one? What was left unfilled in his life for him to be brought back? There is no real personal connection between him and the twins and there can't be because we don't know anything about him. Yes, the focus is supposed to just be on Ruka getting AFD back, but... the lack of connection doesn't help me feel invested in the duel part of those episodes.

Crow and Aki vs Sherry? They just never really interact with each other -- not in any meaningful way, least ways -- which makes the duel feel much more impersonal. They try to make a connection between Sherry and Crow, sure, and they give a good enough go at it, but in the end it just feels forced.

This has been talked about plenty already but -- if the writers had spent more time on the characters that actually mattered (the main, established cast, with a little on Sherry and Bruno) instead of spending so much time on the backstories of characters that didn't impact the plot beyond their own duels (Teams Unicorn and Taiyo), then maybe that duel with Sherry could have meant more.

what if senjuro’s hair is a little darker than kyojuro’s. . . his roots are black, the same dark as ruka’s hair, and his eyes aren’t as shockingly red as kyojuro’s. ruka’s health was already declining by the time she was pregnant with him, and her ability to stare at flame and eat tempura were lessened. as such senjuro takes a bit more after her than shinjuro, but the rengoku hair is so iconic that he’s still easily recognizable as kyojuro’s brother.

Do you think Ruka fell in love with Mikan before Natsume?

I think he might've, given that (in the anime at least, I don't remember the manga well enough) Ruka spends so much time blushing around Mikan. I think she ended up winning him over pretty quickly. He just never really does anything about it, especially after he can tell that Natsume also likes Mikan. I kinda mark it based on whether he's holding the rabbit or not. (Btw, did that rabbit ever get a name? With how much Ruka carried them around, they're basically a main character at this point.) Pre-rabbit, he's doing that adorable '>:( i'm mean and grouchy bleh >:p' thing, post-rabbit, he likes her.

i think for sure ruka started having feelings for mikan before natsume did. ruka blushes around mikan as early as the game in the northern woods and i think he starts developing fondness for her then that starts growing more serious as the story goes on. meanwhile natsume fucking hates her with a passion that cools only a little before they get kidnapped by reo. but im not sure if ruka's feelings were love before natsume's were. natsume fell hard and fast while ruka had a more conventional process (like mikan has for natsume).

regardless of the intensity of the feelings, ruka starts crushing on mikan first. this is true for the anime and manga. it kinda bothers me when i see (usually much older) fandom references to one of them falling for her first and thus being more entitled to her affection, as if this is something ppl can call dibs on.

im not trying to imply that's what you were saying though! in fact, a lot of ppl in fanfic claim natsume fell first, so mikan should choose him on that basis alone. but mikan falls in love regardless of feelings of entitlement or obligation, so that argument is silly.

also maybe i should pay more attention to the rabbit's appearances. the rabbit appears as early as chapter 3 or 4, if i recall correctly, bc he and natsume play cards with it. other than that, im not sure when or how the rabbit appears lol. then again, if im right, then ruka starts having feelings for mikan pretty early, even when he's in his tsundere phase. he pretends to dislike mikan bc natsume does, but bc of his blushing i think he likes her anyway. thus, if the rabbit shows up similarly early, then that would track with my theory. regardless, especially in the manga, sometimes the rabbit's expression either matches or complements ruka's own mood, which is a good hint to his feelings.

i am not sure if the rabbit has an official name, but most fanfic refers to it as usagi or usagi-chan whereas the tokyopop volumes just call it "bunny" or "rabbit". maybe mr. rabbit or something like that. i dont know if there's a name in the original japanese, but im going to assume its name is just usagi or rabbit!
