And just to correct everyone on the South African terms used here... snotklap is a face slap that sends boogers flying and it is part of a klapping back process, which is when people get into a hit me, I'll hit you back mode. Please note the correct spelling of klap, it is the Afrikaans word for slap. A Klap-back is vicious retaliation. This is interesting because it is an Afrikaans word with an English word, which South Africans love to do for effect, because klap terug does not quite have the same emphasis. It is not clapping as in applause and as in "I am so amused and entertained. " More like Beyonce just said you don't entertain me in the least you unimportant nobody.

Lesson here is don't step on Queen B's toes and if you do it again, you might get klapped into next week.

One of the things I personally really adore about Wilmon's chemistry is that they have this innocent, child-like wonder in the way they explore each other(and I mean it in the most non-puritan way possible). That incessant curiosity about each other's bodies, that constant shared looks of "I want to know what these feelings are when I look at you because it's so new and earth-shattering to me", their almost sort of daring approach to the blooming desire in their hearts- it just makes so much sense because they ARE kids. Yes, a 16-year old themselves may not feel like they are a kid anymore but when you grow up and see things in retrospect, a 16-year old IS a kid.

And it's just so interesting to me because many teen media creators forget that a teen is closer to have a child-like approach to their lives rather than an adult's, and instead they end up envisioning teens and their lives with this "adult" lens. Which is not essentially a wrong approach, but it's not just very relatable to many teens? Like being young and exploring intimacy in a safe and consenting manner is not mutually exclusive like many people think it to be.

And the most devastating part about all this is that tragically this innocence was completely ruptured by revenge porn of all things. A tender moment reduced to just pixels of hedonistic mockery, and that too in a digital age where public humiliations are immortalised forever. And how all of this tinged the moments Wilmon share after the video leak with this feeling of them just trying to stay afloat in a ruthless world with each other's comfort.

And I just can't wait for S3 because I really want to see them reclaim that wonder once again. Yes, it won't be easy, but atleast they have all the time in the world to do so, now that they are together.

Oh boy, I agree. I have never watched such utter rubbish. Except maybe that one time I watched a single episode of KUWTK. Once was enough.

And the way the lies came so smoothly and easily.... perhaps it is different for the uninitiated non-Tumblr folk who haven't seen and watched quite so closely over the last few years and kept receipts of all the things she has done, By contrast, we know immediately when she tries to plaster over something with a lie, because we remember it so clearly. And the Anon's are really good at crowd-sourcing information, and they are everywhere, and can find things out. Whereas ordinary people probably take it all at face value. I have a couple of friends who totally loved it and fell for the love story and the big bad BRF. I haven't got the energy to try to open their eyes, but I feel sorry for them and the disappointment they will feel when all the lies get exposed. They will feel so betrayed, so duped.

Regarding NF itself, I think that they probably never got to see rushes probably under the guise of the Harkles didn't want the contents to leak. So NF had to take their word for it that it was a good show, explosive and all that. This is probably also why there was so little advance notice to the airing date, and the rushed out trailers. I think the NF executives watched it in horror with the rest of us and thought "what the hell?" Is this what they call a documentary? No wonder the CEO of Archewell quit just before it dropped, she wanted to get the hell out of there before the proverbial shit hit the fan. And the director must be hanging her head in shame.... look I suppose she did the best she could with footage filmed by Doria and Markus. But I can imagine, it is not her best work.

One good thing about this is that the UK parliament has woken up to the fact that the American streaming services are largely a new means to distribute propaganda and that they are NOT REGULATED like national licensed broadcasters. So the new laws that mean they are subject to Ofcom will be a step in the right direction. Now that is not to say that there are not great shows on these streaming services or that every documentary is a load of horseshit, no, there are some great documentaries. I am currently enjoying the Apocolypse based on Graham Hancock's Fingerprints of the Gods, and not enjoying the fantasy-documentary on Anne Boleyn with the modern music and hammy acting/dramatisation of events, with the overly excited commentary by "historians"... perhaps that should by hystorians?

Like most things in life discernment in what to choose to watch or believe is what separates the dull and thick as a planks, from the intelligent and informed. Everyone needs to choose their lane, but for heavens sake don't get offended when the intelligent and informed roll their eyes at your idiotic statements, if you happen to be in the thick as a plank lane.

So I... Umm... I actually don't know what a DVD commentary is like (my only experience was Dan and Phil's commentary on their Interactive Introverts tour DVD) so I went to read the Wikipedia page and uhhhh

Maybe Matthew and Casey? It'd be nice to have Casey get involved but the movie is more Matthew's story, and Casey already did amazing annotations on the book

It's not Simon's fault that the writers rushed the last season... I can GUARANTEE they had the budget to do more episodes so that it flowed in a way that made sense to the characters and who they are.

I see Simon as someone who seeks academic validation. I mean, he dealt drugs to pay for math tutoring. While I do love the bigger focus on his choir singing in s2, I'm also curious on how he's doing academically.

The class scenes served more as romance build-up, what with them touching hands on the pencil case and the book parallel scene. The most character insight was about how Wille's anxiety can skyrocket until he throws up.

So, is Simon taking it less seriously now because of everything that happened in s1? Does he think that 'moving on' from Bjärstad is still possible, with the video and all?

Little subtle things that touch on racism in young royals: the 17-18th century costumes for the valentines ball. Not only are the costumes hearkening back to an exclusionary ‘golden age’ the costuming includes makeup that makes the skin appear lighter. We see at least Wille and Maddison in. Having this kind of make up is so so exclusionary - because like the wigs that Felice refuses to wear, to engage with the activity properly non-white students are being tacitly encouraged to lighten their skin and white students are being tacitly encouraged to value whiteness

And yes it’s a fun dress up heritage activity that includes make up for the reenactment purposes - I get that heritage is literally what I’m studying BUT one of the big discussions within the heritage field is the ongoing question of whose heritage is celebrated and why?

For example - it makes no sense for Hillerska to host a 17th Century ball, the school opened in 1901, there is no 17th century heritage of the school, it’s imagined heritage that they are utilising. If the ball was a turn of the 20th century ball (the Edwardian fashion era in English parlance) that would make sense as an engagement with the schools heritage. This heritage may still be racially charged but not as racially charged as the imagined 17th Century heritage ball.

So why 17th C? Well I think the school is invested in training up nobility and royalty, individuals who do have heritage dating back to that period, who are likely to imagine that period as the golden era before the class system began to be (slightly) more equal. Hillerska despite having none of its own 17th C heritage is imagining heritage for its students to help maintain an increasingly shaky class and racial system that has it’s students at the top.

It’s therefore pretty significant that Simon is not in a 17th C costume. He has no 17th C noble heritage and unlike Sara (and Alexander, and Nils) is not interested in pretending that he does.

It is also interesting that Felice, who is on a journey of self acceptance and identity beyond her social climbing white family, only partially dresses in the pretence of 17th C noble glory.

Finally, it is interesting that Wille, desperately does not want to put this costume on, and is crying as he does so. He does not want this awful legacy, it keeps him from Simon and it makes him transform himself into something he doesn’t want to be.
