TBH it really seems like even a lot of remaining rwdeposters are more hellbent on whatever they consider character/plot fuckups (which I don't always disagree with!) than pointing out Arr Tee's goddamn core worker abuses. Tons of "Yang doesn't introspect properly as an isolated combat amputee" or "how dare they withhold things from Ironwood" or "why is Jaune eating this much of the script", way less "so, uh, did they actually cut down on crunch? Doubled down in the middle of a plague?! WTF??"
Literally saw a post saying "No. Don't let Blake be happy, give her more trauma" today. And like…
Guys. I get it. You want the story to be better. You want the representation to be improved. You want more character development. But…
Priorities. Workers' conditions first, then story.

Abt Takashi0 my only issue really is his inability to handle, and his hostility toward, valid RWBY crit lmao. So i blocked an moved on (õ-ò)
Can I just... Say something here?
*deep breath*
In my eyes, RWBY and Star Wars have the same aspect in regards to their fans/anti-fans/haters.
The fans of the property go to the ends of the earth and into the cosmos in regards to defending said property: exuding passion and anger so intense it could power the continental U.S. for 5 years.
The anti-fans have built up their identities and even careers making articles, essays, videos, diatribes, etc. about a property that they have long since lost interest in but, again, it’s their core identity and cash-cow so they have to stick around even though they simply end up complaining about how much they hate the property.
The haters have the same ‘building up their identity portion around a property they don’t like’ element that the anti-fans do but they have successfully convinced others that their hatred of the property is a good thing/sign of intelligence/marker of them being an instant expert on ‘good media’. Rather than, you know, being vocally negative about something they don’t like and the fans of the thing they don’t like.
I don’t like RWBY. I tried getting into it way back when RoosterTeeth released the first few episodes and it bored me on several fronts and the only character I find engaging from it is Penny.
I don’t like Star Wars. For it being labeled as a Space Opera, it falls into all of the same boring trappings of any other ‘sci-fi with a rigid system’.
But I do understand and can relate to the frustrations of being constantly badgered by anti-fans and haters calling the most minute speck of nothing ‘oh, this is a HUGE flag of the creators not giving a shit; people who still like this property are stupid sheep; trust me, I’m an expert’.
On the flip-side: God fucking damn, do some of the threads and comments that I have to scroll past when RWBY or Star Wars defenders start responding to these anti-fans and haters venture real close into the realm of obnoxious.
So, do I agree that sometimes Taka’s defenses on RWBY or some of the ones he reblogs go farther than they need to. Yes. But do I agree that a good majority of the ‘critique’ I skim past regarding that property are glib at best and fan-entitlement at worst? Also yes.

https://sokumotanaka.tumblr.com/post/187434182297/whats-the-rvvby-discourse-this-week-im-out-of
“Oh wow so we’re back to “it’s canon until it isn’t” that the manga was experiencing, except the comics literally struck out in their first issue? Isn’t that amazing?
Hey RoosterTeeth do y’all actually care about consistency in your show or can I just take my own liberties whenever I want too?”
Did Rooster Teeth have ANY say what happened with the comics?
Do ANY of you have any proof that this was suppose to be canon? Because considering the fact that I can’t find Miles or Kerry’s names on this project anywhere, only coming across Matt announcing it which contrasts the After The Fall book which was openly stated to be worked with by Miles and Kerry: I’m gonna make a bet that this is an ‘artist’s interpretation’ thing and that Miles and Kerry weren’t involved with this at all. So I have no reason to believe this is canon.
“The problem isn’t even fully the comics fault, Miles and Kerry don’t bother committing their lore to memory.”
Of course not! Why would it be the comic’s fault despite the creator of the comic apparently never hearing about RWBY beforehand when you can jack off the ol’ MK hateboner?
“This is considering alot of lore from the WOR is constantly called into question by both the fans and reviewers/critics etc.”
By this same logic, if a bunch of SU crits all repeat some misinformed and mistaken info then that means the show failed, because it has been ‘constantly called into question.’
“ Iila pulls her unpassword protected phone out in the middle of a fight for no reason.”
Not only does this NOT have anything to do with lore but Illa ALREADY HAD THE PHONE OUT. I will admit that in the scene it does disappear from the previous episode and reappear...but you never point that out do you?
“In vol 5 yang has a talk about blake with yang and tells weiss how no one ever blamed her for anything. Miss “the innocent never run yang.” Schnee. (Btw she still never apologized to blake.)”
Disingenuious considering that they were referring to the events at the Fall Of Beacon and Weiss openly showed concern and a disinterest in Blake’s past when they found her, indicating taht she was trying to bury the hatchet.
“ Hazel’s whole motivation is that he’s mad that ozpin let his sister become a hunter and she got killed by grimm…sooooo he works for the creator of grimm.”
A bad guy having a shit reason for fighting against the good guys, probably indicative of Hazel running from his problems considering he looks and acts more and more unhinged alongside his Semblance being about BLOCKING PAIN? Wow, how unheard of!
“Salem’s dumb backstory is that she challenged the gods cause she couldn’t accept people die.”
You mean that recurring theme in mythologies or that basic human response to the cruelty of death?
“ In that same backstory she falls in a Grimm poop and it’s established that she turned “evil” yet until ozpin finds here has spent eons living in a hut not bothering anyone.”
Where was it said again that Salem never hurt anyone? Because if my memory, or you know THE RWBY WIKI ( Jinn: During his years of travel, he heard the same frightened whispers that spoke of a terrifying sorceress who commanded dark powers in the wilds among the beasts and monsters. Ozma was convinced that this witch was Salem, and decided he needed to see what she had become.) serves me correctly: Salem is never stated one way or another.
“ Regardless of all that and the fact that RT miles and kerry were asked by arksys games if they could put rwby characters in and when they asked for info they stated “read the manga”? “
Citation needed: liars don’t get the benefit of the doubt.
“They don’t give the people directions, if you listened to one panel you’d know this, they just say “go for it.” And let the manga go where it lands.”
Bitch, I have hundreds of examples of you either screwing up basic info on RWBy, being intellectually dishonest about RWBY or straight up LYING about RWBY.
You do not get to say anything without at least one source.
“ Cause they don’t care, I see people continually doing this and it’s gotta stop. Rwby was never consistent and it obviously shows, and instead of blaming properties that had to make due- why not blame the people who never bother writing anything down or expanding on lore? Rooster teeth.”
A. How many SU crits have said that EXACT same thing about Rebecca Sugar? Better start harassing her then.
B. You’re own argument has shown an inconsistency itself as you conflate ‘Miles and Kerry” with “Rooster Teeth”.
And C. You’re a known liar. You aren’t reliable in the slightest.
“ This us why so many videos like these exist fellas.”
A. That video is 70% bullshit
And B. You misspelled ‘is’. According to you, that means your arguments are invalid.
“Again you all should listen to writers commentary on the recent DVD vol, they barely remember a thing and are so dishonest to their fans for no reason. “
AKA I’m going to be as vague and inconvenient as possible so when my bullshit rebounds on me, I can dodge like Neo.
“ I’ll never understand why they choose to sabotage themselves”
Hold on, you misspelled somethings:
“ I’ll never understand why I choose to sabotage myself.”

just was in the comments of a respectful rwby crit video which I had agreements and disagreements with and this goober goes in and starts talking about how roosterteeth panders to the el gee bee tees, lesbians appear in media too often, and how they should’ve just made tyrian gay instead of the bees happening like every time I thought we were done there was just another layer to the onion of horror

su crits are really weird when compared to bnha crits and rwby crits (rwde) posters, the other two active fandoms out there with really well known critical communities
mostly becuase
despite their immense issues with horikoshi and roosterteeth for their writing, handling of characters, beliefs, and business practices do genuinely actually enjoy bnha and rwby more often than not, compared to su crits which seem to genuinely despise su no matter what happens and seem to watch it purely for spite and nothing else at this point
they fucking SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK at critically analyzing and thinking critically in general. like bnha crits in particular would recognize jasper as abusive but for some reason su crits love her and want her back and redeemed and fucking hate lapis and this is just astonishing to me. like i don’t care if you like jasper or not but the sheer hate for lapis and calling her abusive is... really weird

Hey, is it October? Because it’s about to get Pumpkin Spicy in here.
RWBY is still, despite coming up on Volume Six, a very young show. I mean... it took ten entire seasons to really understand one character in Red Vs. Blue, and people still have negative opinions about Agent Texas. We have set up a lot of complex issues and backstories yet to be explored, something that RoosterTeeth has absolutely done before, but I think the fandom is focusing too heavily on the fact that they aren’t telling us everything at once.
As you may or may not know, one of my now-fourteen RWBY roleplay muses is one Adam Taurus. I chose to play Adam as he is presented on-screen, rather than attempting to justify him, or playing him as canon divergent. As a result, I have spent quite a lot of time analyzing his character and solidifying my read on how he thinks. I have applied a similar philosophy to all of my muses, most relevant to this argument being my analysis of Jacques Schnee, who I believe is a fascinating connection to Adam, as strange as that may sound.
I’ve seen some Adam crit lately, and while I in fact live for villain analysis, I feel like a lot of people may be missing some points with some of RWBY’s villains, or at least, some of the adversaries present in the storyline. I say “adversaries” because I don’t really see characters like, say, Cardin or the Grimm or Vernal as real villains. I also find that while the fandom seems more than happy to criticize Adam for superficial reasons, they don’t talk about the slimy bits of his character. And they don’t seem to talk about Jacques Schnee much at all. And here’s the thing: I absolutely understand why. They’re tough character types to talk about, and people like them can be very triggering to analyze and otherwise deal with. God knows I sometimes have trouble with Jacques because of how much he reminds me of someone who caused me a lot of damage.
I’d like to present the theory that Adam and Jacques are a very interesting parallel. Not just in the show but in the fandom. And here’s why: Both of them have a need for power and control, especially over other people, or people whom they view as inferior. And in their quests to obtain that control, both of them have been unhealthy influences on a main heroine of the show. Jacques’ toxicity was longer-lasting and more damaging because it began infecting Weiss from birth. It shaped who she was as a person and was “normal” to her. Until she was out of his sphere of influence, she had no reason to think that the way he acted was something to question or even fear. It’s a very dangerous type of toxicity. But Adam’s was harder-hitting. Blake was an oppressed child because of her race, and she witnessed her father step down as the leader of the White Fang, and her parents step away from the fight to stop the oppression. I submit that it is only natural that she gravitated toward the person who most aggressively remained “on her side” after that. This placed her in a position that turned her into a victim of Adam’s unhinged personality.
The only thing about my whole argument, though, is that WE DON’T KNOW HOW THINGS REALLY WERE FOR BLAKE. We know that she began to notice Adam behaving erratically, becoming more violent and aggressive, but we really don’t know how long she was with him, or how long it took before he began to display this behavior. We don’t know how quickly it escalated. We just know that Blake left after it got bad enough that it would affect how she interacts with others. Caused her to freeze with fear when she saw him at Beacon. I think Weiss can make my point for me here. Blake was afraid of Adam.
Until now, Adam had largely been just a lurking enemy, hanging out in spoken word along and rarely appearing in person. The only character who has appeared less than him and still maintained the same heavy relevance is Salem, and this is appropriate for the same reason in both cases: they are lurking threats. Characters like Tyrian and Watts, who are in the same category of “lurking threats” are terrifying in how little we know about them in general, whereas Adam and Salem are terrifying in how little we need to know about them. We can understand Adam’s motivations to a certain degree, through what has been explained to us about him and through what we know about the sociopolitical climate in Remnant. But we have also seen his lurking in a different, and much more realistic light: as a symbol of the fear he sparked in Blake.
When you have been a victim of abuse, either in a familial sense or in a romantic relationship, it is not uncommon to become afraid of crossing paths with your abuser. To do everything in your power to keep them away from you, and away from the people you care about. Particularly if your abuser is aggressive, or even violent. They become a lurking threat, hiding around every corner until you turn it, always standing behind you or just outside your window. They’re always the one who’s calling your phone until you look to see that they’re not. They’re that car that’s making the same turn as you and has been behind you for the past six miles.
I don’t think a lot of people understand that the Menagerie vs. White Fang altercation went the worst way possible FOR ADAM. No, there wasn’t a big epic battle, it wasn’t a huge spectacle. But that was what Adam wanted. Adam wants to be able to point fingers at humans, and at faunus who “betray their own kind” by opposing the White Fang. But that altercation ended with Adam betraying his own. With Adam being betrayed. With Adam running away from the people he allied himself with. As Ilia says, he abandoned his people and lost all of the power that he had. He has nothing now but spite, and in his hands, that’s still dangerous, but nowhere near as dangerous as he once was. People like Adam don’t necessarily need to be defeated in fire and blood, but often, all they need is to be knocked down into anonymity and irrelevance. However, the problem with doing that is that they very often become far more dangerous on a personal level through their determination to regain the power that they lost, or that was “taken away from them.”
The Haven Incident didn’t see Adam destroyed, but it saw Blake stand up to her abuser in a very major way. And I am of the belief that it saw a blow to Adam that may turn him into a much more formidable force down the road.

So I know I replied to your post about this but, to that anon- they're not a /stream/, but Heroes and Halfwits by Roosterteeth has a nifty bard known as Bo Jingles.
I actually have watched a bit of H&H too! Tbh, of all the Rooster Teeth D&D content I think I prefer Funhaus' Twits and Crits. The problem with both of them tho is that I'm pretty sure they're both exclusively RT First content, so you have to pay $5 a month to see them

(Reportedly from the RT site)
RT: Fans of RWBY: We need your help to green light Volume 10. Just know that we want to continue this project.
Also RT: Any fanart you make is now ours.
Okay, so like… I get that asking every single artist for permission would be incredibly difficult, and that it is kinda unrealistic to do this with every piece of fanart- But not giving credit?
There needs to be a lot of pushback on this decision.
Now, admittedly, the last posted date of this was about three years ago, so this could be something that's super old. But these guys need to know that the fans are the lifeblood of this whole thing. Without fans, there wouldn't be any RWBY. Because the fans are how you help this whole thing grow and gain more viewers. So if people end up finding out that the fan comic they made might get used without credit, it would devastate them. That artist may have ended up working in animation because of their passion, so to have the hard work be used without giving credit to the person who made it is horrible and scummy to the highest degree. Not even Disney stoops this low.
Honestly, I think that there's a good chunk of fan artists that would be more than happy to let RT use their work, as long as they get credited. But no. Apparently, they can't even get that.
FFS, why can't this damn company clear one lousy bar?

I definitly know I'm defeatist by now, and the thing is... I just don't see a future for rwby where the current heads of RT are still calling the shots, the only accountability I can see them deserving at this point is firing them, I don't see how they can come back or make up for all the racist, transphobic and exploiting behavior if not by losing the same jobs they cost to so many of their former staff? Even better if the strike settles favoribly for the unions and the former staff gets rehired by WB, but admittedly the last one of just an ideal scenario.
They can't. Not until they actually have incentives to make up for it.
The main reason why I'm against this defeatist attitude is because what really should happen is the IP gets transferred over to WB and everyone but the higher-ups get transferred over as well.
The thing about RT is that there are good people working there. The issue is that those people aren't being treated well.
And that's why I'm not a fan of this defeatist idea. The idea that the whole show should be tossed aside and restarted from the ground-up isn't something I am up for. Especially if it means having to re-tread jaune's story arcs. The company?- Absolutely. Let that thing burn. But the shows they produce?- Those should stay.
As problem-riddled they are, these shows bring a great deal of comfort and happiness to a lot of people. And getting rid of that just isn't right. But that happiness shouldn't come at the expense of genuinely good people, or even just generally half-decent people. The higher-ups are the ones that need to be punished. Not the animators, not the editors, or anyone who puts in the work.

In all honesty, and I can’t believe that I have to say this, but the ONE GODDAMN rule here is that people DON’T HARASS MILLIE.
It’s a basic rule. We can (and should) hold all the people in power accountable, and we should support all the victims, but there’s one goddamn rule here is that Millie is NOT to be bothered with this.
Tumblr media
I’m honestly worried that she has to have this sort of statement at the ready at this point. What hasn’t RT done at this point?

If they hadn’t mistreated their workers so much, I’d actually consider not pirating the show.
Also, yes. This is real.

This show could have Blake and Yang make out for a full hour, have Scarlet go on about a guy he found hot for three hours, have May talk about her transition for two hours, or even have Ruby just come out as asexual at literally any point, but don’t. There aren’t any network censors that would stop them. The only reason this doesn’t happen is because either 1: The writers are afraid of losing their conservative audience, 2: They looked at all the other shows that had to deal with censors and didn’t realize they were dealing with censors so they thought that that was good representation for a show that has no censors, 3: they’re ignorant, or 4: They’re bigoted.
I want to lean more towards 3. I’d rather attribute this stuff to ignorance rather than malice, but if the writers have improved, then their writing hasn’t reflected that.
People deserve better than the scraps that they were given. Hopefully, Volume 9 will give people something better than what we’ve gotten so far, but I’m not getting my hopes up.
But hey, if the random person reading this is satisfied, then you do you. But you’re NOT allowed to tell others to be satisfied all because you are.

When I said stuff like “if the writers have grown, they have yet to show it” that applied to the company as a whole.
Recent news have proven that they have not moved past that frat mentality.
Except I’m pretty sure that frats are better at calling out homophobia, transphobia, and racism.
Progress is a moving vehicle. Making it past a few milestones is great and all, but the ride won’t (and quite frankly shouldn’t) stop. Maybe RT would have been progressive in the 80s, the early 2000s if I’m being generous. But it’s the 2020s. What they've got isn't going to cut it anymore.
There were times when I would turn on one of their videos because it made me laugh and would cheer me up. But those days are gone. And there are new people, new content creators, and new videos that I can watch to get cheered up by.
It’s ultimately up to you as to whether or not you continue your support of the company. Whether that’s because there’s one specific division that you want to support, or because you believe that they can genuinely change is up in the air and I won’t judge you for that choice or the reasons. I’d be a hypocrite otherwise, I only have First solely for DEATH BATTLE. You can bet that if they moved to their own platform or to YouTube, that I’d cancel my own First membership in a heartbeat.
This sort of thing is going to hurt, and at the end of the day, it won’t be solved on Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit, Facebook, or on Discord. How you choose to handle that hurt will be different from other people.
This is going to end in one of two ways: it will either be forgotten. Or it will be remembered. And which one you choose is up to you.
That choice is the only thing I will judge you on.
Until then, support Kdin, Matt, and all the people that this company screwed over and harassed on their Twitch, YouTube, or other platforms. If the company won’t show them love, prove that you can.
In addition, Kdin has chosen to continue support because she enjoys RWBY, and the people that she got to help make it with.
Tumblr media
But, at the end of the day, they’re still a company. And companies want money. No company is your friend.
Here’s Kdin’s Twitch, since the company won’t give her love and appreciation, may as well give it from the fans:
This will be the last thing I say on the matter. I need a bit of a detox.
