Full. My heart is full. I had no idea as we prepared for the #ICB Music Ministry presents A Black Composers Concert that "The Dean of Choirs", the #livinglegend, the miestro himself, Dr. #RolandCarter would not only be there, but would graciously & enthusiastically direct our collaboration of choirs #singing his arrangement of The #BlackNationalAnthem Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing! When we whispered 'God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who has brought us thus far on the way' from the overflowing choirstand of this beautiful sanctuary in an area of #DC that still resembles #ChocolateCity, that was an entire #BlackHistoryMonth in and of itself! Y'all this entire celebration of #spiritual #classical music featuring compositions by various #Black #composers was #UnspeakableJOY The evening featured selections from the Combined Choirs of Asbury United Methodist Church directed by Bro. Everette P. Williams, our #2ndAME #WashingtonConferenceChoir, directed of Sis. Susan Todd Edwards, accompanied by the anointed gifts of Bro. Everett & James Glover, and The #Black Composers Choir of Canaan Baptist Church of Christ from #Harlem NY, directed by Minister of Music Dr. B. Dexter Allgood, also accompanied by Bro Everette, and selections from saxophonist JaShaun Peele #GRATITUDE to our hosts Rev Reginald M. Green #IsraelBaptistChurch Interim Pastor, Minister of Music Dr Ola H. Gathers, Chairperson Sis. Glenece Atwater & the entire IBC Music #Ministry. Did you know Rev. Green is a DC native & former #FreedomRider who sang this anthem & other songs from #ParchmanPenitentiary back in 1961? And if those weren't enough reasons to #rejoice, my people were in the house! All of them are family, many of them are blood. And yes, church plates were served before the evening concert by our wonderful hosts.
