I guess I wanted to punish myself last night so I made myself fully catch-up on the last two weeks of Emmerdale. I know we all say how bad it is, but bad is being too kind. This is a truly terrible show.

I know Maxine is gone and I'm sure they've lost a few other writers here and there (SM doesn't count she never should have been a writer) but for the most part the writing staff seems intact. These are the same people who were writing for Robron (of course Ryan and Danny added to the material but). The same people who wrote some incredible episodes. What happened to these writers? What happened to these directors? There is no way they believe they are delivering a quality product. Part of me thinks they know it's shit so they stopped caring as well.

Do you remember when Danny exited the show and everyone, including him, said it was time? That he was phoning it in and it showed? This is an entire production of phoning it in. The writing. The storylines. The acting. All of it is being phoned in. Everyone involved seems and looks bored. I know there are people upset about how mean and nasty this version of Aaron is, but Danny at least seems to be having a good time. He at least looks like he's trying. Also I hate the characters he's being nasty towards. I don't care that he's hurting their feelings. That's a problem. I should care at least a little. But they have decimated some of these characters to the point of no return, at least for me. I will never care that Chas and Paddy are upset about something.

They have to hire a new producer. The producers have no interest in actually telling a story. They have zero interest in the foundation. They are interested in hitting certain points of a story. They are completely disinterested in building a story. They leave out the entire buildup, which is the interesting part of the story! They don't give anyone time to invest or even understand what is going on. How did that character get from A to B?

The couples make no sense to me. They feel like they just sat in a room and threw paper on the floor and the names that ended up near each other were paired off. Caleb and Tracy came out of nowhere. I don't know why they're having an affair but at least they have chemistry. I keep being told Matty and Amy are a couple. They aren't written like a couple, at least not in the two seconds of screen time they get. Relationships are the important part and the producers have zero interest in growing and letting us actually see the relationships develop. Remember the build up to Robert and Aaron's first kiss? It was so so good! And that was largely due to the fact we actually got the buildup!

I don't know, this got very long and I'm sorry but it makes me sad. I desperately want Ryan/Robert back but I don't want these people touching that character or Robron. It's depressing 😔

If I have to endure another one of Emmerdale's attempts at a "steamy affair" then can it please be Kim cheating on Will? Because I would be down for that. Cause I hate her and Will together.

The only other married couple I actively hate together is Nate and Tracy and I certainly never need to see Nate have another steamy affair again. I wouldn't hate it if Tracy found someone better. But I still think both would be boring.

Let's face it, it's all going to be boring because these people just do not know how to craft a story period, let alone an affair story. Robron would have flopped so hard if these people were putting that story together these days. Haha.

Yeah same here. I’m just rolling my eyes so hard at this whole affair thing. I mean Nate *is* pointless and bland and I’d probably go for Caleb instead too but just... UGH

the way it ‘started’ too - basically the ‘you’re hot when you’re angry’. and apparently that works on tracy...

I don't go here anymore but apparently in Emmerdale Tracy and Nate tried to have a secret wedding to avoid the drama that would come in everyone else being involved, which was ruined when Nate was kidnapped by Cain...

They should of tried to get Robert back, tell Ryan they will work around his schedule. They know how popular Robron/Roblivion are so they missed out big time. Also only 2 deaths, the way they built it up they should of killed of more.

Even if it was just for a short stint I totally agree, I’ll be honest as good as the eps have been recently I do feel like they’ve let them self down abit because even when they confirmed Tracy, Diane and Aaron coming back I’m sure they said there was more returns and there hasn’t been? 😅 And yes I feel let down with the deaths because what is actually going to become of it? There’s already so many more stories going on at the moment, one of them probably won’t get a proper send off and Aaron’s probably the main person they’ll focus on with Liv’s death and he’ll be leaving again soon… they should of killed someone else other then Liv, her family already have enough stories going on. I hope Robert’s atleast mentioned in the aftermath and he’s been told because they was so close at one point and he deserves to know… But knowing emmerdale they probably won’t even acknowledge it. Was he even mentioned when his gran died 🤨

thinking bout how overnight robert was the guy who had the affair with aaron and who was just a close friend now supporting aaron through the worst thing ever to someone who was aaron’s bf and how that was such a big thing for him but he was so concentrated on the verdict ruling and then making aaron happy and then liv that he never got to breathe and be like cool everyone knows i’m aaron’s bf and the world hasn’t stopped moving and i’m happy being myself

Amused by that “don’t reunite these couples” list as if Robron deserve to be in a list anywhere near the terribleness Tracy/Nate, Harriet/Will and Mandy/Jimmy even if you don’t like them. Haha. 

Obviously I’m bias but...

Also, the toxic aspects of Harriet and Will’s relationship was hardly ever their problem. That had the bones of an interesting story...it’s just that it involved two of the most boring characters who had no real chemistry. 

It always entertains me when people get so upset about toxicity in soap couples. That doesn’t make them bad. If they have good chemistry, if the story is interesting and well told, toxicity can be fun and exciting while it lasts. It’s not really a deal breaker with a soap couple. 

I mean when you have a couple like Chaddy, whose toxicity makes them incredibly annoying to watch then it’s a different story. When that toxicity isn’t acknowledge at all by the narrative or isn’t until one is literally having an affair and then will still probably be walked back in the end, that doesn’t make it well done. 

Part of the reason I always liked Robron is that, while yes there was plenty of affair era revisionism, bless them, Robert and Aaron were such rich, three dimensional characters with so much show history that was often used, that it all kind of worked. Their toxic tendencies could make for exciting, dramatic moments but still be explored and acknowledged as much a soap actually acknowledges things. But enough so that their narrative involved them working through a lot of their personal issues and their issues as a couple. Not that a couple has to become less problematic to be good. A couple can be a disaster and it can still be good storytelling. I just liked that Robron’s story had that insane disaster aspect and allowed them to eventually grow individually and together and learn how to communicate and be healthier as a couple until someone decided to leave the show and they kind of had to wreck it a little. They always kind of had the best of both sides.

It's obvious the producers have run out of ideas when they rehash their own exit storylines with different characters 😂 Time for them to go, there's a reason past producers have only stayed for 2 - 3 years.

right? i mean Robert's story was decent (apart from the whole Ryan leaving thing - damn you Hawley!) but Dan/Liam Fox is NOT strong enough to carry that story. And i don't give a shit about Dan.

Nate and Tracy getting back together off screen makes no sense and now they're suddenly having money trouble? ANDY owns their house - I don't think he'll be coming to collect rent any time soon...

Caleb has a serious case of plot!money. here today, gone tomorrow. He's skint but he has money to buy the mill off vinny...

Gabby throws herself at every man who so much as breathes in her direction (I read a quote from Rosie Bentham basically saying she doesn't like that either)

Dawn cannot get away from storylines involving children somehow

And MATTY AND AMY ARE STILL MIA DESPITE THE FACT THEY'RE IN A LONG TERM COMMITTED RELATIONSHIP AND ARE GETTING MARRIED!
