since we're apparently getting some sort of bughead scene but any REAL bughead scene where they like, talk or something, would be a complete non sequitur at this point, my final baseless rvd theory is this: the finale ends on jughead happily typing away at his laptop like the insane person he is; betty walks over and says something like "it's late jug come to bed"; cut to black
and we're all STUNNED and AMAZED by the brilliant implication that the show was jughead's novel/comic/whatever all along, like wow, who could ever have seen THAT coming

Honestly, if any character deserves to die not in another parallel universe, possibly in the 50s, and never came back to life. Everyone forgot about him including the bear would be Archie.
The writers get their heroic ending. The hero, in their eyes, is dead. The other characters rejoice because he is the worst, and they must keep making him feel good afraid to bruise his ego. Now they can drop the act breathe, and get back to normal, for Archiekins is dead.
The girls are happy because whatever potion he bought from Cheryl to be the Stepford wives around him is broken, but Cheryl will say it was her Momsy.
Uncle Frank, god, he can die too. I don't count him as a main, though. If anything, it will be Midge dying in childbirth from having Fangs baby, so Toni and Fangs decide to raise it.
I'd say let it be Alice and Archie, either one, but knowing these writers, we can't bet on that.
I'd say Jughead he'd always sacrifice himself for his friends, but you know what? He deserves to live to thrive, and he's done it enough, but if he needs to, he will, and he'll be okay with never coming back, no matter the time frame. However, if he finally finds love and it works, and they kill him or his lover, that's just cruel. Would the writers do this to Jughead? Absolutely.

I’ve solved your problem, RAS!
I was talking with my friend the other day and I’ve solved RAS’ problem of what to write for the series finale of Riverdale. Since apparently he still hasn’t written it yet with the show ending in… checks notes, 2 months! Oh and this even allows them to stay in the 50’s until the very last episode so that should make RAS happy. Here goes:
We find Jughead in a meeting with his editor where he gives him some super meta comments about how his last book (season 6) was too "out of left field with the genre change" and that the one before that (season 5) was "too depressing trying so hard to tell adult stories" and that he needs to recapture the magic of his first book (season 1), but with a fresh take. This will show how 'camp' they think they are that they know about our criticisms of the seasons, but it was "all part of the plan."
They can even throw in some flashbacks from previous season — you know to "pay homage to them" or as a "love letter to fans" or whatever bs they’ll spout about it. Then, Jughead sits down and starts writing what we know to be season 7 set in 1955 with high school stories, you know: same, but different. 🙄
The last scene is Jughead walking into Pops, he sees Archie sitting at their regular booth with Veronica and Betty. They wave him over. Archie asks: "how’s the writing, Jug?" Jughead replies: "I actually just finished!" The core four cheer to that with their milkshakes and we pan out.
Bonus points if Pop Tate is at the counter reading an actual Archie Comics, looks up, straight at the camera, and winks. Fade to black, Riverdale logo. The end.
No one knows what the ships are. No one knows what was real and what was part of Jug’s books. What could be more Riverdale than: "nothing matters and everything matters!" Which is exactly the kind of chaotic energy that I think RAS loves.
So there you have it, RAS, I’ve written it for you. I await my paycheck now since I did the job you can’t seem to do.

Cackling over this WarnerBrosTV twitter promo image. Ah yes, I love the good old-fasioned tropes! The Classic All-American Teen, the Girl Next Door, the Queen Bee, and the *check notes* Riverdale’s Guardian Angel 🤣
Incredible, no notes. Season 7 is going to be so silly, give it to me now!

I don't watch this season at all. But I see spoilers and speculation about the final, and I also want to speculate a bit with you.
Everyone is discussing whether only Jughead will get his memories back or if all the characters will be able to get it. (I'm not going to rant here about whether "these" characters need the memories of people they are not. This can be saved for when one fall I remember how angry I was in the season 5 finale.) And if everyone gets memories, then who will return to the present, and who will remain in the 50s?
My guess is that everyone but Betty will return to the present, whatever it is. Gays - because they have no chance of being in an open relationship in the 50s and for a very, very long time. Women - because now they have more opportunities and rights than in the 50s. Although this is controversial. (Riverdale doesn't like to bring up such difficult topics anyway.) Jughead - because he will have more room for his writing and his ideas now. You know, the internet and all that. And he has a family somewhere in the present. And Saint Tabitha of course! I really don't know why Veronica would be interested in the present, other than that she can do business on an equal footing with men. Has this topic come up at least once this season? Archie. He seems to be comfortable in any decade. His father died everywhere, and everywhere he does not know what he wants to do. He may come back to the present just for company.
And only Betty has a real reason to stay in the 50s. Her father is not a serial killer. Her mom is Alice as always, but they've figured it out again and love each other (I roll my eyes, see?). Polly is alive and doing great. Her new half-sister Ethel is not a serial killer and travels happily. And only here Betty has interests besides investigations and crimes - she can write books about masturbating or she can dance striptease and sing in burlesque.
Anyway, in the finale we have 86 year old Betty in 2024. And an old friend helps her remember her high school graduation. What if he actually takes her to a real prom in the present where all the other characters are "literally just back" from the 50s? She will live a quiet life. But she will miss her friends, whom she has not seen since prom, or who have not even been to prom, because they went back to the future in advance.
However, we have spoilers that claim that there are scenes from the 70s, in which all the main and almost main characters are involved. I don't know what to do with this information.
And I can't believe I wrote all this even though I haven't watched a single episode of this cursed season.

Alright so I know everyone is freaking out about Barchie’s alleged proposal (no I’m not going to watch the trailer to see it with my own eyes. Eek) but I, for one, am optimistic that we’ll finally have an explanation for THESE COMIC BOOK PAGES that haven’t shown up yet:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know what you’re thinking: but we saw these pages come to life in 6x05 right ?
NOPE.
We got THIS stunning scene of course:
Tumblr media
But I would like to submit to you that both Jughead and Betty are wearing entirely different outfits in this scene. In the comic book, Betty’s hair is down and she’s in a short sleeve wedding dress, and Jughead is in a suit.
So does that mean that the Barchie wedding in this comic book, where Betty has apparently left Archie at the alter to run into Jughead’s arms during their last second on Earth… hasn’t happened yet???????
I sure think that might be the case.
Also shoutout to @scratchtovoid who had the comic book hug ready to go at my request 😂

I’d like to go on record & let you all know that if Betty shows up in that bunker in her Bughead hardcore make out Vale wedding dress, you’ll be able to hear my scream wherever you are on this planet.

Reasons this could be some Jughead scripting the world.
The sudden and easily accepted changes in universe.
Constant contradictions to serve the narrative
Ambiguous pasts that are never mentioned in depth unless they fully happened off screen.
Everyone conveniently knows information and is neither shocked or too concerned with it.
Most supportive and totally cool exes ever, maturity has never been so wide spread
Magic besties (not complaining about the sudden B&V…but it is sudden…and the investment V has in ba is very strange)
No one that can help is available during corresponding episodes, or get somehow incapacitated.
Jughead is in the bunker, in some parallel world so is another Jughead who is writing. That Jughead decided to keep the vale’s status quo and keep the couples as is. If he’s stuck writing forever he might want to “spice up” the narrative…with say witches and superpowers.
That other Jughead would only be able to use what he knows so he makes them behave as he sees them behave (in his pov) and then in crucial moments gives words to make things work. (Queue the nearly word for word speech given by Archie that was a copy paste that we very recently heard this season, and the fact the flash backs were also, apart from one, exclusively from this season, or completely new)
Shits weird and if other Jughead is basically entertaining himself by playing with life size dolls and went rogue just to write something different, I don’t blame him. Best guess is he thinks it only affects the vale…and that is not the case. Things may not have gotten fixed the way initially thought.

(bear with me, i’d rather channel my rage at a dumb tv show right now than all the things that actually matter)
thinking about how egregiously bad the b/a accidental pregnancy plotline is. and i think what is so galling about it is this: i’m actually willing to give the writers the benefit of the doubt that archie being written as a total narcissistic shithead is intentional. the *broader* audience is not intended to watch with heart eyes as betty confides her trauma to someone and gets a soliloquy about honoring his dead dad in response. they are intentionally modeling him after the shithead ‘vale archie, because it’s all going to come to a head at some point plot-wise, and they know we know this.
BUT: they stop there, because they want to have it both ways. it can’t be made explicit that archie is behaving like an asshole, not until the very end of whatever muddled story it is that they’re telling, because it will turn off whatever miserable little section of their audience is actually invested in that relationship. so they turn betty into just enough of a blank slate that the b/a fans can fill in "nervous excitement” and “a girl in love” where everyone else sees “strange flat affect” and “behavior at odds with everything we’ve learned about this character for the past 6 years”. and they encourage them to do so by dropping little hints about “exploring the relationship” in their promos even though 99% of said exploration is (apparently) happening off-screen.
they could have written this as a genuine relationship with real growth and emotions between betty and archie. they also could have written this as an explicitly plot-driven story that was clear about the character’s motivations and feelings, and derived suspense from making us wonder how and why the ‘vale elements are bleeding into ‘dale. instead, they tried (and failed) to split it down the middle, and they sacrificed betty’s character in the process.

You think the writers are going to remember that Jughead's birthday is Oct 2nd (the day after we left them in the finale)?

just remembered that the devil had kevin and reggie's soul in the vale (and they're allies on his side in the dale now) but also that veronica made a deal with him while jughead sold his soul to him in the end so he could write again
they're also the ones who didn't burn their things in 6x13 so now i have questions and concerns

I think that they let Jughead keep his memories in 701 doesn't really matter to the plot. This was only necessary in order to carefully remove Tabitha from the season. And of course to get that funny scene with the time capsule. But mostly the first one.
Why did Jughead keep his memories? How will this affect the plot? Where did his beanie come from? Where did Tabitha go? Will she come back?
No reason. Will not. From nowhere. To somewhere. Perhaps yes, at the very end for one scene.
See? This is the level of speculation about Riverdale in its s7. Bring on the next episode.

I'm going negative again, sorry, so please don't read if you don't want to see negative ramblings
RAS said that next season we will see "first kisses", etc. in high school - so why again? We saw first kisses for Varchie and Bughead - why do I feel like we're going to see Barchie and Jabitha first kisses this time since it's a supposedly "clean slate"? He also said the couples will be changed up - why do I feel like that will mean just the B/V/A triangle and Jabitha in high school, since Jughead remembers things from before the comet, and he was with Tabitha before?
Alex (from RD After Dark) says he thinks next season will be like a purgatory, where "soulmates" will find each other and help each other recover their memories from Riverdale. BA and JT "soulmates", right, Alex, since you're a BA? RAS said they were going to "get Tabitha in there somewhere somehow" in this high school-based season. They've basically erased Bughead and have shit on Varchie (mostly Veronica) in Season 6, so I'm sure BA and JT, regardless of the stupid triangle, will be "endgames" in Season 7, too, even though they were already gifted "endgames" at the end of Season 6. Also, they're not popular couples, regardless of what RAS and the other writers/directors say. They have driven down the ratings, as we have seen. But they want to purposely piss Varchie and Bughead fans off. The disdain the writers have for the fandoms that helped bulid this show is EPIC.
Sorry to be negative and sarcastic, but I'm having these thoughts and I need to rant and vent. And I'm making myself sick in the process. lol
