'The trailer for Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer features a man with the unmistakable looks of world-famous scientist Albert Einstein, and the actor who plays him is no stranger to Nolan's work. One of the most anticipated movies of the year, the upcoming historical epic is set during World War II and revolves around the development of the first nuclear weapons, focusing on the titular physicist labeled as the creator of the atomic bomb. This is Nolan's first biopic and portrayal of true events, but the spectacle that typically infuses his work is reportedly anything but downsized.
Among the real-life figures that star in the movie is Albert Einstein, whose brief appearance in the Oppenheimer trailer sparked a lot of curiosity. Einstein is shown alongside J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) himself, as they meet by a pond on what appears to be a windy day. Although less recognizable than most of his co-stars, the actor who joined Oppenheimer's top-notch cast as Albert Einstein has a lot of experience under his belt.
Tom Conti Plays Albert Einstein In Oppenheimer
The man sporting Einstein's distinctively disheveled white hair in Oppenheimer's trailer is Tom Conti, a Scottish actor mostly known for his theatrical career. Conti has taken part in a wide array of stage and film productions, with his leading roles in Whose Life Is It Anyway? and Reuben, Reuben granting him a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor respectively. He also guest-starred on Friends seasons 4 and 5 as Stephen Waltham, father of Ross' second wife.
While nobody can compete with Cillian Murphy's consistent involvement in Nolan's projects, Conti is also a familiar face from one of the director's previous films. Conti was involved in The Dark Knight Rises during the pit sequence, playing the unnamed prisoner who helped Bruce Wayne get back in shape. Despite it being a small part, Conti's role in the film may have led to his casting as Einstein in Oppenheimer.
Why Albert Einstein Is In Oppenheimer
Albert Einstein's presence in the Oppenheimer movie fits with his presence in American Prometheus, the Oppenheimer biography that the film is based upon. According to the book, the real Oppenheimer and Einstein held diverging views on both quantum mechanics and atomic weapons but had a friendly relationship grounded in their shared love of physics, which also resulted in many documented encounters. Naturally, the idea of these two incredible minds exchanging opinions on their scientific accomplishments, including their ethical implications, is certainly alluring.
The interaction shown in the trailer seems to hint at an exploration of their tie in the movie, although it is impossible to tell whether that will revolve around Einstein's take on Oppenheimer's endeavor or other matters entirely. Currently, available information on Oppenheimer does not include the extent to which Einstein will be featured in the movie, nor what aspects of his connection to the Manhattan Project will be explored. Nevertheless, Tom Conti's acting abilities and spot-on resemblance with the notorious scientist seem to make for a sound casting choice.'

I've seen a few posts from people who think Henry was being shitty to Gorgug or setting Gorgug up to fail by allowing him to do 3 years of the artificer track at once. But I have a lot of experience in STEM, and I think Henry was being incredibly kind in a very engineering-coded way.
I did an undergrad degree in engineering and have been in STEM spaces for more than 10 years. And the STEM way of being an asshole is much more like what Porter did. So many people who don't look like they fit the stereotype of who belongs in STEM have been explicitly told to leave. Like, I was at a conference last year where a presenter asked all the people in the room who had been told to change their major to raise their hands. And there were lots of us with raised hands. (This was in a diversity equity and inclusion session, so a lot of non-traditional looking people for engineering.) If Henry wanted to be an asshole he would tell Gorgug to leave, or that the curriculum was "rigorous" and half-orcs can't usually hack it, etc. But he didn't!
Henry did the classic STEM thing of laying out all of the options, even the ones that aren't desirable. Since Porter won't sign the MCAT, the reasonable options are all gone. Henry mentioned that Gorgug doesn't need to be in school for artificing to be an artificer ("If artificing is something that brings you joy and brings happiness to your life, you don't need school. You can do that on your own.") Which is NOT something that STEM people do. I've never heard an engineering professor say that someone who does STEM stuff as a hobby can call themselves engineers. Henry is being absurdly kind by saying this.
When Gorgug says that he wants to do artificing in school, Henry gives the option to do all three years of school at once. [Note that Henry did not suggest this at first. Henry didn't offer it until Gorgug basically asked for a loophole.] This reminds me so much of all the STEM people who know a system really well and give you advice on how to navigate it. They note that their path isn't what the system was designed to do, but if you really want to do it you could do it this way. Which is exactly what Henry does. This also gives Gorgug the agency to decide for himself.
Henry also goes out of his way to say that the people who work hard are the ones he would bet on. This is also so nice as a STEM person! I can't tell you the number of professors I had who said that a specific problem shouldn't take long, or "if you're efficient you should be fine." I also had a professor who said some people can code and some people can't, and he didn't know how to help the people who don't have a natural aptitude for coding. Henry saying he thinks Gorgug can achieve this through hard work is super enlightened for a STEM instructor.
tl;dr Henry is incredibly enlightened for a STEM instructor. He tells Gorgug that Gorgug can still be an artificer without formal schooling, and then when Gorgug expresses a desire for the formal education he tells Gorgug the path. If Henry does a heel turn I will be emotionally devastated lol

«Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness. Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit. A gifted and prolific talent, he will forever live in the comedy pantheon and in our hearts as a treasured friend and man of remarkable character and generosity of spirit.

after reading so many stories where their actual names are used like Jake Seresin, Natasha Trace, Javy Machado, etc., it’s so crazy to me that not once did they say any of the pilot’s real names in the actual movie except for Bradley who has both Cyclone and Maverick say his first name (his last name is said a lot more) and Maverick (for obvious reasons)
not even like a Lieutenant Trace or a Lieutenant Seresin, they were always just simply referred to as “Lieutenant”
the only time we really see their names are on the beginning screen where Cyclone is showing Mav the 12 pilots and their last names on the tags of their uniforms in the bar scene
everyone is simply referred to as their callsign and even in cast interviews, they introduce themselves using their call signs and never the actual names
come to think of it? i genuinely feel like they weren’t in the movie THAT much because i saw a post that calculated Glen’s screen time and it was like less than five minutes total?
all this to say, fan fiction is SO powerful because this was such a minuscule detail of the movie that we could’ve forgotten about but everyone kind of just took it and ran with and now I can’t see it any other way

7/26/91: 32 years ago today, Pee Wee Herman was arrested for indecent exposure in a XXX theatre. I remember a shirt with his mug shot on it was all the rage at the first Lollapalooza
EDIT: NO, Paul Reubens did NOT knowingly have child xxx in his home. He was NOT a scumbag so stop posting that on the tags and comments. Look it up before trying to tarnish his name! He actually handled his arrest very well and had a strong come back so stop assuming things that are untrue and stop spreading false information! 🙄
