Propaganda posters in Wuhan, mid-1938. Found in an album that had belonged to Leslie Reginald Frederick Shrimpton RN (1910-1964), who served on the gunboat HMS Falcon in China waters from 1937 to 1939. All photographs and descriptions with translations from University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China. 

1) The banner depicts Nationalist forces attacking the Japanese. The Chinese text on the banner urges viewers to join the military, fight the Japanese, and thereby defend China. Bi-s168

2) Anti-Japanese public hygiene banner. The slogans on the lower banner (depicting a fly with a Japanese Rising Sun Nisshōki emblem) read: 'We need to knock down our enemies with the world's sympathy on us'. 'We need to prevent cholera and kill flies; and if you want to survive, kill the Japanese soldiers'. 'If you don't kill it, it's going to kill you'. The higher banner depicts Japanese bombers attacking a train. A wall poster on the left reads: 'Build a new Great Wall with our heads'.

3) Banner by L'Association des Etudiants Chinois de Retour de FBS (France, Belgium and Switzerland Returned Students Association), Hankow (Hankou). The banner text provides explicit details that accompany the image of 'cruel massacre and rape never before heard of'. Bi-s163.

4) Propaganda banner featuring Chiang Kai-shek. The slogans on the banner read: 'War of Resistance to the end!' and 'Support the leader'. Chiang Kai-shek is depicted beside Hankou (Wuhan) on the map of war-torn China. This photograph was taken in Wuhan. 

5) The banner slogan reads: 'We demand that the Japanese repay their blood debt!' Photograph taken in Wuhan. Bi-s164. Photograph 3 shows the same building in a different location.. The actual term used here for 'Japanese' is 倭寇 'Dwarf pirates'. Bi-s167.

6) The main banner, showing charging soldiers and workers, bears the slogan: 'Defend Wuhan!' The Hankou (Hankow) bund is depicted in the banner - the clock tower is part of the Custom House. The banner was made by the 'Korean Youth Wartime Service Corps' (朝鲜青年战时服务团), founded in Wuhan in December 1937 by leftist Korean nationalists. Bi-s166.

7) Banner outside the headquarters of "L’Association des Etudiants Chinois de Retour de FBS", Wuhan. The banner was made by L'Association des Etudiants Chinois de Retour de FBS (France, Belgium and Switzerland Returned Students Association). The banner slogan reads 'Mobilize the power of the masses to defend Wuhan'. Sign on the window of the L'Association des Etudiants Chinois de Retour de FBS headquarters building at 69 Jianghan Road (江漢路六十九號) in Hankow (Hankou), in French: BUFFET & BILLIARD. Sign on the window in Chinese: Cold drinks / Coffee. Bi-s162

8) Remarkably, famed war photographer Robert Capa took this photograph of the street from inside of 69 Jianghan Road. This was identified by the excellent Visualizing China blog, and the image is marked from the International Center of Photography/Magnum Photos, who published it with other photos in 2018.

Otter in Japan pt. 4 🌸

After our little accident we went with the Shinkansen to Tokyo 🎉 we had snacks and a nice view!

After we arrived in Tokyo, we went to sunshine city and saw a friend on a wall! But we didn’t visit said friend because there wasn’t much time (and we already went to an aquarium in Osaka) 🦦

Instead we went (second hand) shopping on a flee market; and later shopping in the mall

*sad otter noises, happy carrier noises*

On that second hand flea market, human saw another otter which looked a bit dumb (in a nice way) but also cute

In the end, big blep was allowed to come with us. He is a bit clingy though 🦦 and he doesn’t have a name yet; until he has one, he is just blep 👅

reason for colouring under the cut:

this piece is kinda important to me because it's the first drawing i made with a colourblind filter on!

i have tritanomaly (which honestly feels quite mild to me, but that might just be stubbornness), which means i can't distinguish blues well and honestly makes everything seem more pale? the two sliders on the image below look identical to me.

i turned on the colour filter on my device recently and oh my god, i couldn't believe how saturated most things were 😭😭 i thought i had lost my mind.

of course, i immediately started drawing with the colours that looked much brighter to me, which was mainly purple and cyan (yellow was a shock too). after a few days, i completely forgot that the filter was on, took it off, and realised how desaturated my actual vision was, which was humbling.

here's a side by side of how normal colour vision would be compared to how i would see it (as close as i could make it, still probably not that accurate!)

as fun as this was i'll probably draw without the filter to make things look more normal to you guys 😭😭 apparently it looks very desaturated but it seems normal to me 💔

it's strange and beautiful to see my art the way the rest of you see it (and also understand that the reason i never used green was because i thought it was the same as blue...) i would honestly love to get glasses that correct it, but idk if they can come with a glasses prescription too?

but the nice thing is that i see reds the same, so at least the arsenal kit looked the same!!

sorry for how long this is if you read the whole thing, i just had to get my feelings out 🫶 hope we do well tomorrow coyg!!

Well, I started this story with all my love, I hope people will like it or at least the art for it. This drawing was super funny to do, I love drawing flowers, flowers are so pretty. So... I was drawing Resistance Japan and I noticed this.

Fudou named his Team Resistance Japan. Kidou's underground group (and Go Song) was called Resistance. And then Fudou used Kidou's palette for Resistance Japan's uniform. They trained in Teikoku. Interesting at least. Bonus:

Little KyouHaku Comic I've been working on it since March..and still working on it. It was inspired by the little interaction between Hakuryuu and Fake!Tsurugi. Hakuryuu asked him to have a match and, of course, the alien didn't know their relationship and answered Tsurugi "Why should I...?"/"Why me?", Hakuryuu was speechless, answered "You-...No. It's nothing" and their combo ended there. I believe Hakuryuu realized that he wasn't Tsurugi but, part of me loves the angst so....yay.

(this color choices in this coloring are so ugly, i'm sorry. i made it like two years ago. back then the idea that two fabrics of the same color can look good while touching each other was beyond my comprehension, and i also haven't bothered to look up how lolita dresses actually look like. please forgive me lol)

as a child she was rather insecure of her quirk (and the interest in mushrooms that came with it) because other kids thought it was gross and weird

however, seeing pro heroes confidently show their quirks to the public and base their entire personas around them no matter how strange they were, gave her the courage to act the same about her own. now she views her quirk as unique and cute rather than weird, and she wants to be as popular as possible in the future - she hopes that maybe some kids with "weird" quirks will also feel inspired by her

in general she tries to express her uniqueness as much as she can, which is why she loves the over-the-top and cutesy lolita fashion

but she'll also wear anything she finds cute, like overalls, the oversized sweater + miniskirt combo, basically anything with polka dots on it...

(she probably hates wearing her school uniform lol)

of course her room is also overwhelmingly cute and girly. the floor is covered with fluffy rugs and there are countless mushroom pillows and sanrio plushies lying around

despite her quirk not being capable of creating it (i think that her quirk can only create mushrooms, not all fungi), she finds mold very fascinating. if it wasn't a health hazard, she would probably keep her spoiled food to see what kinds of mold grow on it

she's a great cook - she can make almost anything... as long as it has mushrooms in it

scrambled egg with mushrooms? easy as pie! regular scrambled egg? might end with the dorm kitchen burning down. somehow.

she also likes gardening, even if there aren't any mushrooms involved. she helps Ibara take care of all her plants, the two of them also want to turn a small part of the lawn surrounding the dorm building into a garden

she's obsessed with romance

her bookshelves are filled with romance novels and shoujo manga (along with mushroom encyclopedias, of course)

and she loves playing matchmaker for her classmates, along with Setsuna, her best friend. they have a special secret notebook dedicated to various more or less ridiculous ships featuring their friends, and even though they don't treat the whole thing very seriously, the notebook's content might just... instantly kill any uninitiated person who looks inside

it's kind of funny because with her Shipper Goggles™ she can see romance literally everywhere while also completely failing to notice Kuroiro's crush on her. she even considers him her type!

acts very fangirly about her favorite idols and pro heroes, definitely runs some kind of blog filled with simping, heart emojis, reposted fanart, photos of her poster-decorated bedroom walls, and aesthetic edits

oh yeah and she definitely reads and writes romance fanfiction about them. sorry not sorry #yourfavelikesrpf
