Politico defending LITERAL WWII Nazis.
Politico seriously suggests there is "nuance" around Yaroslav Hunka's joining of the Nazi 14th Waffen SS Grenadier Division (1st Galicia) to fight the Soviet Union and, like Canadian commentators over the last few days, suggests no war crimes were committed by this Division.
That's COMPLETE AND UTTER LUNACY.
The Nazi Germany 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS was NOTORIOUS for SLAUGHTERING their way through Ukraine, enthusiastically participating in the genocide of Poles, Roma, Jews, and Socialists/Communists
These people are manipulating history and your ignorance of it to make Nazis go from black and white obvious evil, to shades of grey in which you're not "expert" enough to have an opinion on, thereby weakening efforts to expose fascist ideology being integrated into Western society.

The ADL is adding pro-Palestine protests organized by anti-Zionist Jews to their antisemitic incident database. Slandering the global Jewish community while effectively making real antisemitic hate harder to track. Especially when antisemites use support for Palestine as a smokescreen.
This is where we are now.

So are you one of those Western communists who assumes the USSR was great and that modern Russia is also awesome, purely because your own country is a capitalist hellhole, so it's enemies must be saints?
No my friend, I, like all Westerners, was raised to believe the USSR was a frigid starving 1984 hellscape.
I hope you will forgive the length of this, this is a good question prompt and I want to answer it as fully as I can. TLDR at bottom.
What very slowly changed my reluctant mind was slow exposure to the facts. I was a nerd and a sucker for dry information. I think this one simple study was pretty pivotal in my new understanding:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1646771/
(The third page, labeled 663, has a very nice table that sums it up nicely)
Slowly over time I learned that the USSR had better life expectancy, nutritional intake, education, healthcare, real wages, democracy, mental wellness, social mobility, and even seemingly unrelated things like culture, interpersonal relationships, and sex, when compared to the U.S. and other peer capitalist nations. All in SPITE of their dire circumstances, and the many privileges of their capitalist bandit peers. More humane prisons, less drug addiction. A more efficient and ethical economy, better technological development. Incredible strides towards uplifting ethic and national minorities oppressed under the tsarist empire. Incredible strides towards gender equality.
I do not assume the USSR was great. The simple facts illustrate this. And, likewise, all socialist countries are far better in these critical metrics when compared to capitalist peers. China especially has taken these victories even further.
After the 1991 capitalist coup and the Union's dissolution, all of these metrics SHARPLY fell in the former Soviet states. Poverty, drugs, alcoholism. Life expectancy sharply fell. Depression and misery. Capitalist Russia, while it fared better than other countries in the Eastern Bloc and in Central Asia, was by every metric immediately worse compared to Soviet Russia.
Now, this is where it gets a little spicy: Russia today has slowly but surely returned some of these metrics to their prior status ever since Putin took power.
There is a lot of bad to say about Putin, particularly his queerphobia. However, in the 2 decades he's been in power, many social safety nets of Russia, many calcified remains of the Soviet bureaucracy that were being chipped away by capitalists have been preserved or even restored. Socially, things have continued to largely decline and become reactionary. But many ordinary people in Russia enjoy cushy, dignified lives, ESPECIALLY compared to American counterparts.
Modern Russia may be capitalist, and it may have some unsightly problems, but it is leagues better than the United States, and so yes, the fact that they foil the United States on a world stage is invaluable. Yes, I would support an equally evil country foiling the United States simply on virtue that the rise and fall of empires leaves lots of room for radical change, this is plain pragmatism. But I do not find the evils of Russia even remotely comparable to the evils of the U.S. I also strongly believe in the imminent leftward potential of Russia as a country that has a precedence, nostalgic reverence for and calcified remains of a socialist system, not to mention their burgeoning relationship with China only going to further disseminate socialist ideals to combat the Nazism that leaks in from the Baltic states.
Now, to speak on other countries briefly:
As I mentioned, I would indeed critically and pragmatically support almost any entity for the short term goal of toppling and containing the U.S. Empire. There are other clearly non-socialist states, movements, individuals and other entities I support in this World War against the U.S. I went from despising the Westernized monarchy Saudi Arabia as violent, arrogant vassal of the United States to celebrating their step towards peace with the theocratic Iran, both because I always enjoy peace-making but because I think Saudi Arabia would be an excellent turncoat despite how much I dislike them and nearly everything they do. In hindsight I flirt with enjoying the Trump presidency because I truly think it accelerated the rot that is destroying this Empire whereas another Obama would have prolonged it another cycle, even though Trump was and is a terrible person, especially in power. The fascist Taliban were created BY the United States to destroy socialist Afghanistan, and yet I pinch my nose and celebrate them retaking Afghanistan in lieu of the American occupiers because it is all part of the long bloody process that will lead to a socialist Afghanistan one day soon. I am well aware of the socially conservative and otherwise reactionary views of many who, even as Useful Idiots, will play a pivotal and passionate role in toppling the US hegemony.
Yes, it is a shame. No, it is not preferable. But I believe this World War and the process of geopolitical development is incremental. There will be new challenges that arise after the death of the US Empire, I would not be surprised if for a century after its death we were still dealing with Western Wokeism and the social conservatism it creates as reaction.
One problem at a time.
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
TLDR:
I do not assume the USSR or, to a significantly lesser degree, capitalist Russia is better than the United States; the fact is they simply were and are, by every metric.
That being said, yes, I also critically support any enemy of the United States no matter how foul, because quite simply that is the logic one must follow to win a multi-faceted war against a powerful mutual enemy such as this. I also have faith that as the US Empire dies that the natural tendency of societies to become more progressive will resume, as the US suppressed all leftward movement across the world for 30 years straight, yet the second they began losing their grip we've seen a damaged and distorted but always still alive Left resume its inevitable march in non-Western countries across the world. The big tent zero-standards anti-imperialism of today will, after more conflict and reassessment and redevelopment, become the pro-socialism of tomorrow, especially with China as the new most powerful country.

It's still bullshit that top gun 2 keeps getting nominations in award shows. The Woman King didn't get nominated for best picture at the oscars
THE WOMAN KING WAS EVERYTHING!!! my mom and sister insisted on watching the top gun movies and they really liked the sequel (not in theaters tho). but its so frustrating that war propaganda movies like top gun got so many noms.
the thing is tho that the reason they refuse the woman king is because movie was carried by the relationships between black women. like black panther they're at least paying homage to T'Challa/Chadwick and everyone's mourning him. still though I expected Letitia to get nominated too and I think the only reason she didn't get nominated is because they're kinda forced to acknowledge Angela after the many MANY times she's been snubbed.

🇺🇸 🚨 THE US FOREIGN AID AND DEFENSE SPENDING RACKET EXPLAINED IN THREE GRAPHS
In three graphs, why the United States is clearly in extreme, rapid decline, and the evidence for why ordinary Americans will pay the price for the decades of perpetual-war policies in their own standard of living.
There's a reason why the minimum wage hasn't been raised since 2009. Why there's no money for schools, why our hospitals and doctors are a mess, why theres homeless people on every city's streets, including the mentally ill, the drug addicted, and veterans, no money to deal with out of control crime in American cities, the waves of constant immigration meant to destroy your wages... There's only ever money for more federal law enforcement, more war, more "foreign aid" aka corruption rackets for US vassal states.
During the very years we watched this decline take place, spending on foreign aid and defense spending have gone constantly upwards while wages declined and income Inequality skyrocketed.
The evidence for the betrayal of the American people by their corrupt elite is everywhere, and the debt we will be saddled with for generations is unimaginably large: $34.209 trillion at the time of writing this.
Every American will suffer the consequences for the imperialism of their elites, and in fact already are as displayed clearly by the flattening of US wage growth simultaneously alongside the increase in foreign aid and defense spending.
It's elites taking money out of your pocket, out of your retirement, your children's college education, your family's healthcare, your wages, your life, and putting it into the same super wealthy, billionaire elites who've wanted to kill social security and Medicare and use the US Military to enforce a system of control, impoverishment and censorship on all of us across the world. Or fund genocides, you know, whatever's profitable. 🇵🇸
It is nothing more than an old fashioned racket, an upward transfer of wealth, and it always has been.

this seems like some fresh new level of hell in war PR.
from the fake-smile teaser thumbnail image to a ptsd-laden lead photo, the takeaway caption reads "LGBT soldiers say they hope to 'spread the Eurovision spirit among our platoon'”
i’m a bit flabbergasted by this presentation, despite what i see of other bbc war coverage… for one — the noticeably stark differences in bbc features on (white) war refugee families compared to articles on anonymous migrant families that need to be sent to rawanda.
this pinkwash is so thick that i’m drowning… did eurovision pay for this plug?
i hope they make it out alive.

So what do you think of Soviet Mass Deportations (see Operation Priboi)? Are they somehow all CIA propaganda? Or were all of the deported evil and it was totally justified? In general, what's your take on Soviet annexation of the Baltics? Was it just a prolonged liberation? Maybe the countries were totally willing?
Hey buddy listen I'm a rapper I work in a sweaty ass kitchen I'm a psycho genius failson I literally would be homeless if not for some systemic privileges and the goodwill of others. I pass that on as much as I can. It haunts me if I don't. I am blursed. And listen listen. I'll be honest with you. I've never even heard of Operation Priboi. I'm not an encyclopedia. I carry something that is good but it is exhausting. I'm clocking out from reading books and shit. Contentious source, but, as they say, "Out of the movement, into the masses!" I'm fucked up so bad right now.
Anyways anyways stfu stfu BRIEF BRIEF.
What I have learned through many, many repeated experiences is that most bad things that one hears about AES (Actually Existing Socialism) are as follows (estimate):
30% Complete Insane 100% Made Up Psyop Bullshit
45% Contextless Half-Truths, Gross Exaggerations, Lies of Omission, etc.
25% Truth! That is literally, at its worst, perfectly on par with the standards of human existence and peer behavior.
I'll continue being honest, Soviet being in the Eastern Bloc is not something I ever deep dived into (and as alluded to earlier I am done deep diving). But I know enough to say this:
Neo-Nazism has always held a strong presence--and has been, since WW2, it never stopped--in the Baltic states. This should be your first thought before ever engaging with ANY opinions about the Soviet Union, in general (much of it is widespread) but particularly pertaining to these countries.
Quick aside--I really need you to play a game with me, and just entertain the idea that the USSR was a socialist country, the very first of its kind.
Okay, now seriously. What is the opposite of socialism, or anarchism, or (assumedly, could totally be wrong) whatever generally leftist idea of a better world you subscribe to? It's fascism. What is fascism? It's a fucking psychotic evil beast. It lies and shit. It just makes up shit. These fuckers would torture you, my friend. They're sick. They're very hurt individuals whisked away by an egregore of what can simply be described as evil incarnate.
Yeah, old and new CIA propaganda is everywhere. They are the same as fascists only they've had a LOT of funding from the biggest, most violent empire in human history and have (until recently lol losers) maintained a very cold calculated deathly efficient but imaginative way of doing things. Their propaganda campaigns have been constant and constantly evolving. Social engineering is not a secret. The CIA plainly and openly admits the shit they do. The echoes of damage that this empire has inflicted on those within its field of sway emotionally mentally psychically and even physically will bounce around like wicked cancer cells long after the Agency is claimed and repurposed.
Honestly, knowing what I know, I would guess the most likely answer is, yes, it could be CIA propaganda. More likely, it is Baltic Nazi propaganda, not unlike the kind floating from Ukraine now, not unlike the kind that fascists and other right-wing / capitalist elements used in Ukraine 100 years ago trying to spin this idea of the evil homosexual Bolshevik Menace that sought to purposefully starve its own civilians (for ha-ha's I guess?). The difference is, 100 years ago, people would hear insane shit from Ye Olde Ron DeSantis and dismiss it on the basis that the speaker is insane and evil. But after 100 years now liberal academics, the cutesy kind that you feel like you can trust, well they look back and say "zomg Ye Olde Ron DeSantis? That sounds like a name that I can trust!" And they party popper whippets or do the dougie or yass queen chipotslay or whatever the fuck Gen Xers who belong on BuzzFeed do. And now the thing that was an insane lie with clear politically-charged motivations 100 years ago arrives at today as something that studies in reputable universities have in their bibliographies.
If I had to guess, I would say the reality was the Soviets deported 99 Nazi fascist rapist murdering traitor fucks, as literally anyone should do its literally more humane than The Wall you evil bastards, *ahem* , 50 capitalists, 20 Oops We Made a Mistake!, 20 normal people who had been misled by foreign elements into, say, color revolution-type activities, 5 Anarchists who were being little pouty terrorists, 4 dogs (disease), 3 cats (lolz), 2 tonnes of eggs (To India, With Love), a partridge and a pear tree. Then, well, some Nazis were mad they got kicked out of the party for being Insane and Evil, so they say, hey. They just kicked, like, 500 of us out. All innocent people. I can't believe they would send 1000 of us into other countries--I mean the wilderness. They sent 5000 of us into the wilderness. They ate our babies too. Hey you know I, you know, the Nazi Guy, your buddy, I have pictures of when they massacred 10,000 babies on live television, and...
Yeah, that's how things go. Again and again and again.
You know who would absolutely tell you they WEREN'T willing participants of socialism? Yeah.
What sort of people come from socialist countries with bad things to say? In theory. Seriously, play make believe with me here. It's interesting, here in the West we will get people from Cuba, China, the Soviet Bloc, Venezuela, all sorts of places. The sort that really like the American Mythos, the kind who open businesses, the kind who say they miss a deposed King or a Nationalist President who was in power before...yeah, you dig?
Again, remember. I'm generalizing. Like at least around 25% of people will probably have genuine grievances...poor bastards not realizing the grievances they're about to have here in the West. Propaganda from the United States affects good people across the entire globe. We were the uncontested global giant for 30 years straight, after all. Thankfully these days whenever I hear firsthand experience of things from the Global South it is sprinkled with goodness, like a Columbian song that sings "You don't need a green card! Be happy here!" or Haitians waving Russian flags in spite of the US glaring daggers at them.
Whatever the case, I support the Soviet "annexation" of the Eastern Bloc (though perhaps some, like the many old people who lived in Soviet countries who have expressed ever since 1991 that they miss it, did indeed want to try this socialism thing out) the same way I support the activities of a close neighbor I know who has illustrated themselves to me before to be a very trustworthy, kind, considerate, hard working person with a big heart but a firm demeanor. I would especially trust that person over my other neighbor, the one who has a tacky fascist Star Spangled flag and peeks underage girls from behind Oakleys while obsessively mowing their lawn, punching grandmas, and occasionally blasting shitty music. That guy. Yeah, no thanks.
Okay wrapping up this "brief" (laughing my fucking ass off) answer, I will just say that I have learned to just trust AES. It's not a blind trust, I myself fought against the plain truth quite annoyingly long, constantly allowing the new BUT WHAT ABOUT THIS TERRIBLE EVIL THING THE COMMUNISTS DID? I hadn't heard of completely disintegrate the 1000 good things I had learned and the 1000 other insane lies I had to have thoroughly debunked to my satisfaction either by others or by my own research. Geopolitics is a state of constant warfare, not of countries per se but of ideas. We are all fighting to be at the helm of the wheel of what to do with this great, massive, terrifying, beautiful thing: civilization, consciousness, history.
And, well, fascism is built to be a predator. It excels at con games. It has no qualms lying, especially to good-natured people who just want to do what is right and are a little too trusting because themselves are trustworthy.
Signing off.

Jeremy Scahill on Israel's "Deliberate Propaganda Campaign"
The United States and more than a dozen other countries quickly moved to suspend funding to UNRWA, the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, a vital lifeline for millions of people in Gaza, shortly after Israel accused a handful of the agency's staff of taking part in the Hamas attack on October 7. But the U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 obtained the intelligence dossier on UNRWA that Israel shared with allied countries, and found "no evidence to support its explosive new claim."
The Financial Times and Sky News also reviewed the materials and came to the same conclusion. Israel's claims about UNRWA are just the latest example of what journalist Jeremy Scahill says is a "deliberate propaganda campaign" to justify its brutal assault on Gaza. "This is one of the most epic frauds in modern history, reminiscent of the lies told to explain and justify the invasion and occupation of Iraq," says Scahill, senior reporter and correspondent at The Intercept.
