Better than me - Charles Leclerc x Reader Part 1
Plot: You are a rookie in your first f1 season, adding to the ever-growing amount of Brits performing in the grid.

Tumblr media
"And we here at Audi on our debut into Formula One are happy to announce our line up for this year. We have taken on Alexander Albon, and a new driver from the last F2 season to keep the youth of the grid, Y/N Y/L/N, the first female Formula One driver of the century" Andreas Seidl announces and cameras flash all around the press conference.
"So Alex is moving from Williams to an Audi, after not having a great seasons from 2021 in his reserve roll in Red Bull to him moving down as a Williams driver, why have you put your trust in a driver that hasn't been performing?" the interviewer asked. Andreas shuffles in his seat a little leaning closer to the mic.
"Well Alex's performance in Red Bull were phenomenal especially for a rookie. Unfortunately Red Bull decided to pull their finances into one car and one driver which led to Max over-powering many of his team-mates, which was one of the reasons Ricciardo switched to Renault. We want to give Alex the chance to prove his skills in a well-made car that once on the track will rival the Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari's" Andreas says looking towards Christian Horner who didn't look pleased at all.
"It's good to see Albon given the chance, as we saw George Russell improve the minute he joined Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes. There's also talk that there was an offers for Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc what happened there" another question is thrown out.
"We sent offers to anyone we thought would benefit from a contract with us, so Leclerc and Norris were both on that list"
"And you ended up choosing Albon, or were the offers rejected?"
"We chose Alexander before Norris and Leclerc turned the offer down. Norris is out-performing in his McLaren and as part of their young drivers scheme, he wants a win for them before ever moving on if he does. For now he is comfortable there. As far as Leclerc goes, he has dreams in Ferrari that they unfortunately aren't helping him pursue, which we hoped we could. The Volkswagen Group is an open arms family and our relationships with all drivers are ones we hold a lot of respect for" he explains nodding at the man who was asking the questions.
"Obviously Audi have now not only kept up with the youth of the grid but have added the first female since Lella Lombardi. Where did this choice come from, and did the other drivers know before today?" he pushes and Andreas smiles looking over towards you at the back of the room, hidden by your Audi cap.
"Well, she won the last two F2 championships and she's a very promising driver, she has a degree that she completed three years ago in Aerodynamic Engineering and has some great opinions on her car and knows it very well. I'm sure her rookie season will be one nobody will want to miss" he smirks and the cameras click for more photos, you could already see the amount of headlines.
Now it was time for your first race of the season. Your first race was Bahrain and you were extremely nervous, you could see the camera on your left filming you as you pulled up the fireproof race suit over your shoulders. The mix of red and white fabric had your sponsors over it, as well as the four rings of your teams logo.
You eventually got into the car rubbing your hands together waiting to be handed the wheel by an crew member. You check that you radio is working with your engineer and give the pit crew a nod.
"Okay lets make this a good lap! Looking to try and get P12 or up" your engineer voices as you as you come out of the pits.
You had a good start, going into turn one slower, wanting to just test the waters. Turn two and three were similar, the car was wider and more powerful than that of an F2 car and even pre-season testing didn't help settle your nerves.
"Need to speed up on this straight to make up the time from the turns, stop overthinking and just drive. We believe in you" you hear your engineer and release a breath that you didn't even realize you were holding. You fly down the straight managing to still keep up quiet the speak into the sharp turn 4.
"Coming into sector 2 now, your currently in a predicted 14th place so we really need to catch up in Sector 2" he explains again.
You speed round the turns up until the hairpin on 8, breaking later and managing to overtake Russell who was slightly ahead of you on the track.
"Nice Y/N, you've got Lawson and Ocon ahead of you, if you can catch up to them you'll be in the top 10. Lets get you flat out on that straight in sector 3 yeah?"
As you get through the second hairpin with a little skidding from your misjudgment and managed to make up for time in turns 11,12 and 13 before putting your foot down so you sailed down the straight.
After another go you were called back to the pits.
"Well done, you got P9. That's amazing for your first drive"
"What position was Alex in?" you ask, hoping your team mate was getting on well in his new car.
"He was P4, Hamilton, Leclerc and Perez all infront of him, Verstappen P5 along with Norris, Piastri and Alonso just a few seconds ahead of your time. Wonderful driving" he says as you pull into the pit. You jump out the car, looking to see who was now out and didn't make it into Q2.
"Well done Y/N, you did do well! P9 is crazy!" Alex said rushing up to you pulling you into a teammate hug.
"Let's go get a drink, you wanna go toilet?" Zahara one of the crew asks. I nodded immediately realizing how i hadn't gone to the toilet before hand.
Q2 went a little worse, you crawled in P11, not making it into Q3. You'd made the typical rookie mistakes which is what angered you the most. You slapped you hands onto your halo in annoyance as your engineer tried to explain that P11 was amazing for a rookie, and if you had a good pace tomorrow you'd be able to get within the top 10.
You watched Alex compete for his position headphones on and seeing his overtake Norris who was currently in P5.
Eventually tomorrows start was set, Leclerc P1, Hamilton P2, Perez P3, Sainz P4, Alex P5, Verstappen P6, Norris P7, Russell P8, Piastri P9 and in P10 ahead of you was Alonso, he wouldn't make it easy for you tomorrow.
You hug Alex, congratulating him on a great start to the weekend and a great start to this season. You headed to your drivers room, changing out of your suit and into your Audi shirt and shorts. You head out and get to your R8, a benefit of working for the Audi team.
"Hey, Y/N right?" a voice calls you before you can even open the door to the car. You whirl round, worried it was a fan that had somehow managed to follow you to the carpark. In turn you actually saw the racer who finished in P1 today, Charles Leclerc.
"Oh, hello" you smile nodding you head down awkwardly in greeting.
"I just wanted to let you know, you did well, this wasn't my first race in F1 Australia was but you finished ahead of where i was in 2018, so take this as a win" he smiles placing a comforting hand on your shoulder.
"Oh, thank you. I didn't even think I'd be here this year, I was shocked when Audi reached out to me. I'm just annoyed at the mistakes i made in Q2, I could have made it to Q3 if I had just ..." you admitted softly, until he interrupts you.
"You've already had your debrief and you know what you did wrong, move on from it and come back tomorrow and get into the top 10" he smiles at you. He starts to walk away but stops when your hand wraps round his wrist.
"Thank you Charles, i needed to hear that. Congrats on P1 today, see you on the track tomorrow" you smile, letting go of his wrist before jumping into your car. You sighed revving the engine, thinking of the kindness you'd just been shown. You knew that people would probably be looking for you from other teams, as most people were still there but everything was a little overwhelming for you right now.

Trains in Miraculous Ladybug - Bonus: The Bus
[Part 1: The Metro Train]
[Part 2: The Metro Station]
[Part 3: Startrain]
[Part 4: The Gare du Nord]
It’s been a while since I made these posts, but I figured I might as well update them, and talk about the remaining public transit vehicle in the show that hadn’t been mentioned yet: The bus, shown here almost in its natural habitat.
Tumblr media
Just like most other vehicles, the show has just the one, which is always signed as line 33 to Gare d'Austerlitz. The line is strictly fictional, just like the Metro lines, to justify this bus appearing everywhere in the city.
So let's talk about the bus itself. In the show, it gets thrown around, used to escape Zombies, it loses its breaks at the start of Gladiator, it's an animal prison, it receives the least destructive cataclysm of all time (in Animan) and way more. While it has no logos, and a slightly distorted front end presumably to avoid copyright infringement (yes, vehicle design is covered by copyright), it is unmistakably an Agora by… well, that's difficult actually, because this bus type has a complicated history.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First picture by Vincent Babilotte, from Wikimedia Commons, CC-BY-SA; second by Eole99, from Wikimedia Commons, CC-BY-SA
The Renault Agora was introduced in 1996 as Renault's first fully low-floor bus. In 1999, Renault Véhicules Industriels (commercial vehicles) merged their bus business with Iveco, functionally the commercial vehicle division of Fiat if you squint a bit. The new joint venture was known as Irisbus, and from 2002, the Agora became known as Irisbus Agora. Their logo is actually a dolphin ouroboros if you look closely; I have no idea why.
At the same time Renault and Irisbus were also busy buying companies in eastern europe, and reused their names, which means the Agora was also sold under such famous names (famous among bus nerds anyway) as Karosa and Ikarus in Eastern Europe. Those seem to have been co-branding things, those buses still had either the Renault Rhombus or the Irisbus dolphin on the front, and then a Karosa or Ikarus logo somewhere on the side. Some buses were also sold as Škoda (the part that makes trains, not the part that makes cars). We'll get to those later. Finally, in some countries, it was sold under the incredibly vague name "Citybus".
For Paris, we'll only care about the Renault and Irisbus versions, though. These are functionally the same, they just differ in the logo on the front, which the Miraculous bus simply omits entirely. On the inside, the Irisbus version has newer Iveco engines instead of Renault ones to meet newer emission standards, but that's irrelevant from the outside.
The main feature to recognise this bus from a distance is actually in the rear.
Tumblr media
In order to provide a flat floor from the front right to the last seating row, Renault has arranged the engine and related mechanical parts in a sort of backpack. An angled drive shaft drives the rear wheels, which are arranged as a portal axle (a design where there is a small gear set near each wheel so the axle in the middl can be higher or, in this case, lower than the wheel hubs). This design as such isn't unique to Renault; it is also found on some Scania OmniCity buses and several ones in the US, starting with the high-floor GMC Rapid Transit Series in the late 70s. What is unique about the Renault design is how it's packaged, with a gentle curve at the top.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This design actually originated with the Renault R312, the Agora's predecessor, which was semi-high-floor (a single step to get into the bus), and continued to be used by the Agora's successor, the Irisbus Citelis, starting 2006. Here's the rear of one in Liège, Belgium:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pictures by me, do what you want with them
In real life, the curve is not quite as pronounced as it is in the show, and the show has given the bus's rear end a pronounced overbite. Again, I think that's due to copyright, but that's just a guess.
The buses also come with a variety of rear lights; the ones on these Belgian buses don't match any of the Agoras or Citelises I've seen in Paris. Either way, the same backpack, now with LED lights, is also used on the Citelis's successor, the Iveco Urbanway.
(Oh yes, in 2013, Iveco bought the remaining share of Irisbus and renamed the bus models to Iveco only, but it's still the same fundamental bus design somewhere in there. The rest of the commercial vehicle division of Renault was sold to Volvo around the time but keeps its name. Note, that's the Volvo that makes trucks, not the Volvo that builds cars, which is completely independent and owned by Geely. This confusing shit keeps happening and it keeps getting worse.)
For extra confusion, there's also a version of all three buses that doesn't have this backpack, and instead has the engine under a raised floor. I'm going to ignore this one here.
I really love all the little details they implemented on the bus, like the colored signs on the outside that show route information.
Tumblr media
I have no idea why Paris uses these, the buses have digital displays as well, but I like them as a concept.
You can also see the frame for the advertising. In this case it's empty; in other episodes it has shown ads for Adrien, Le Perfume, or for the weather girl contest in Stormy Weather.
On the interior, I'll be honest with you, I'm not that knowledgeable about french buses.
Tumblr media
I think the overall layout is correct, but I think the seat color is wrong. Buses and trams owned by Paris's transit operator RATP usually have green seats. Maybe that was another copyright issue? I know that sounds weird, but the transit operator of Berlin (BVG) was recently in a legal battle with the designer of their seat patterns over the question whether BVG could sell merchandise with that pattern. RATP does not have that problem because they sell barely any interesting merch, no matter how much I'd like to buy some.
Next: The dashboard.
Tumblr media
We get actually fairly good looks at it in some episodes, in particular Animan, and it looks pretty good.
Tumblr media
In partikular, it seems to be a fairly close match for the VDV-Standardfahrerarbeitsplatz, seen here in a Citelis.
Tumblr media
The buttons for the automatic transmissions are in different places here, but both versions seem to be available. Also note that this one has a display unit built in, but it seems that is also optional. The one in Miraculous Ladybug has a separate bus computer unit mounted next to the dashboard, which is a very common layout as well.
As the name implies, the VDV Standardfahrerarbeitsplatz is a german invention by an association of bus operators, who have standardised how a bus dashboard should look like. While bus manufacturers can offer their own, and some do, the standard design is usually also available. The advantage is that if you have buses from three different manufacturers, then you only need to train drivers once instead of separately for each bus. Since german companies build a lot of buses, their standards have become relevant in other countries as well; such as France. Paris has a lot of german-built buses these days as well.
I know the Agora didn't always use the VDV dashboard; you can find pictures of a weird angular Renault design. I don't know if they switched, or if the german standard design became available as an option, and I don't know which version RATP used. But it's certainly a type of real bus dashboard, and one that was used by the same company later on, so I think it's okay.
In some episodes, notably Glaciator 2 and Qilin, we also see the ticketing.
Tumblr media
Marinette apparently has a Navigo pass, a contactless card that you touch to the validator in the bus. That seems perfectly accurate. In Qilin, she has forgotten that card, but luckily her mom has bought single-use tickets.
Tumblr media
In Paris, you need to validate such pre-bought tickets first, which she does by touching them to the RFID validator.
Tumblr media
That's really not how it works in real life. Instead there's a distinct validator for these bus tickets that stamps them, but this bus model doesn't have that. It's okay enough, I guess.
The main issue with the interior of the bus is something else: It has a step.
Tumblr media
That's a bit of a problem. In real life, the Agora does not have a step, the entire floor is flat. That was its main advantage over the older Renault R312, which did have the step. I have no idea why the show chose to include a step in here. They're consistent about it as well; there's a step at the rear door, too.
(By the way, do not think about where the doors go when they're open. It's different every episode. They're supposed to swing inwards, but sometimes they swing out, or they just disappear.)
My final nitpick would probably be the underside.
Tumblr media
I have no idea what an Agora is supposed to look like from underneath. But given that the engine is in the back, it's probably not supposed to have exhaust lines running all the way under it. Yes, that's as minor a nitpick as they come, but I couldn't resist once I saw it.
Overall, though, it's a good bus, and very appropriate if you only have the money to model one. The Agora is definitely a staple of Parisian cityscapes, with more than 2500 delivered to RATP, almost a quarter of the entire production run.
If there's one issue with its inclusion in the show, it's the age. The last Agora was built in 2006, and most of them have long been retired. A number of them are already in RATP's vast historic collection, which is sadly not open to the public except on special occasions. I don't get why; there would definitely be interest, just look at the London transport museum. Paris's public transport is every bit as iconic as London's, but they don't market it as such, and they don't have the museums and merchandise to capitalise on it, and I think that's just sad. Please allow me to give you money, RATP!
Anyway, these days, no Agora can go into Paris anymore. Paris has established a low emission zone in 2017, and all Agoras are too old to be allowed in. There are some Agoras still running in the wider Paris region, but not the city centre proper (though that one still has some Citelises, and also some Heuliez versions, which is a whole other can of worms). If we assume that Miraculous Ladybug takes place in some sort of eternal 2014/2015, which is still the best guess for a timeline that I've seen, then the Agora still fits, but it would hardly be the only or most common bus anymore.
The age becomes an issue in one particular episode, in Bakerix, where Bakerix complains that the bus is electric, and that's not how it's supposed to be.
In real life, the Agora was never available as a battery electric bus. Paris is buying lots of battery electric buses these days, including ones that have some lineage to the Agora, but the original only ever had internal combustion engines…
…well, except for sometimes. There were also Trolleybus versions of the Agora. First, there is the Škoda 24Tr (normal version) or 25Tr (articulated version), which was confusingly built in two versions, one based on the Agora and one based on the Citelis. There is also an Irisbus Agora Trolleybus with electrical equipment by Škoda. Is that a different trolley bus based on the Agora built in cooperation between Škoda and Irisbus, or is it the same one, and they just sometimes branded it as a Škoda and sometimes as an Irisbus depending on local contracts? Your guess is as good as mine. Either way, though, those were only sold in Eastern Europe. Paris doesn't have any trolley bus wires, so there were no electric Agoras here, ever.
That aside, though, I think Miraculous Ladybug did overall really well on the bus, given the constraints they had to work with, and I'm looking forward to seeing it in plenty more episodes.
I think that's the end of this series, unless the show starts bringing the tram or the RER into it. I don't think they will, because I don't think they could tell any new stories that way, but I would greatly appreciate it. Anyway, thanks for reading!

Venturi 111 Cup
MVS – standing for Manufacture de Voitures de Sport or "sports car maker" - was founded in 1984 by French engineers Claude Poiraud and Gérard Godfroy to compete with fast, luxurious GT offerings from Porsche, Aston Martin, and Ferrari. Introduced at the 1986 Paris Motor Show, the company's first production model was the Venturi, a stylish mid-engine sports car utilizing a tubular steel backbone chassis with box section reinforcement and low-slung, aerodynamic bodywork manufactured from weight-saving fiberglass. Underpinnings included an independent double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear.
While essentially retaining the same layout, underlying structure, and fiberglass body shell throughout production, the model was continuously refined and updated including a revised suspension system and the availability of new engines with varying levels of power. For 1990, the model received a mild facelift primarily consisting of a deeper front spoiler and new side sills, while the MVS name was discarded in favor of Venturi and a new company logo.
This 1991 Venturi 111 Cup is believed to be one of just three built for the Italian market to cleverly circumvent the then-punitive thirty-eight percent tax on cars with more than 2.0-liters of engine displacement. Derived from the contemporary Renault 21 Turbo, this example is powered by a turbocharged, fuel-injected 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine developing a claimed 185 horsepower. Placed amidship ahead of the rear axle and delivering power to the rear wheels through a five-speed transmission, the motor was more compact and weighed less than the six-cylinder units in other Venturi models, benefiting the car with sharper handling and slightly better fuel economy.

A restaurateur and rapper duo unveiled Stars Coffee on Thursday, reopening the chain of coffee shops in Russia formerly owned by Starbucks. At a packed launch in central Moscow, rapper Timati presented the new brand, whose logo features an image of a woman with a star above her head, alongside co-owner and restaurateur Anton Pinskiy, before shops start opening on Friday. [...] “People’s perceptions may be different,” said Pinskiy. “But if you compare, then apart from the circle, you won’t find anything in common.” Starbucks declined to comment on the similarity of the logo and name,[...]
The deal mirrors a wider trend among Western brands, which has been changing the country’s retail and corporate landscapes as the conflict in Ukraine enters its sixth month.
Renault sold its majority stake in carmaker Avtovaz to a Russian player for just one rouble, while McDonald’s, whose restaurants have now become Vkusno & tochka, did not disclose a figure. [...]
While the partnership may appear unlikely, Timati, one of Russia’s most famous rappers, co-founded the Black Star Burger chain in Russia, which sells a “Timati Burger.”
He is also known for his support of the Kremlin and in 2015 released a track containing the lyrics “President Putin is my best friend.”

Renault SA Talks About The Challenges Faced Due To The EV Shift
Renault SA Managing Director,  Tshifularo about his career path, products and Renault SA’s prospects after the 2035 European fossil fuel ban on cars
Shumani Tshifularo hails from a village outside Thohoyandou, Limpopo. He is a chartered accountant and his work experience includes CFO at a local airline, a stint in the heavy machinery leasing sector and posts in several divisions at the Motus Group.

Working his way up
In 2007, Tshifularo was Africa operations MD of Eqstra Fleet Management, and in 2009 he became CFO of Toyota Forklifts — another division — and then MD.
He left the group briefly in 2019 and rejoined Kia SA as its commercial director. The Korean car brand along with Hyundai, Mitsubishi and Renault, form part of the Motus vehicle import division that represents 23 passenger and commercial original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in SA.
His stint at Kia lasted a year before the coronavirus pandemic hit. Thereafter, he joined Renault SA as commercial director, leading the project to convert and bring to market the Renault Triber Express panel van, among other projects.
In March 2022, he succeeded former Renault SA MD Jaco Oosthuizen who now leads the Motus Group in Australia.

Products
Growing the Renault brand forms a large part of his immediate responsibilities. The company ranks in the top ten best-sellers nationally. The focus is on strengthening model numbers, starting with the new Renault Captur. It’s an important and popular model with SA customers. The Austral SUV, the perfect replacement for the Kadjar, is not confirmed.
Another model in contention is the Renault Oroch, a half-tonne bakkie based on the Renault Duster. Market research continues on this cool-looking yet perplexing bakkie, which is more a lifestyle loader than a workhorse.
“We must ensure that we get the price and positioning correct before deciding if the Oroch gets the green light,” emphasised the MD.
Renault Stellenbosch has covered this topic a number of times and will most likely continue to provide the latest on the Oroch bakkie.
A batch of 55 Megane RS Ultime — the last model to wear the now retired Renault Sport logo — is now available for order, and though production of right-hand drive Alpines has commenced, we could not draw the MD into this topic. Besides, we sought a more interesting local angle. This raises excitement for local Renault dealers like the popular Stellenbosch branch.
Going electric
Efforts to launch the Renault Arkana hybrid in 2024 are at an advanced stage, and this will mark Renault’s first foray into electrified mobility in this market. Dacia is the Romanian-born sister brand of Renault, and it markets a technical twin of the popular Renault Kwid, now with a fully electric version.
Is the brand not picking up on the opportunity to sell affordable electric cars in SA?
Tshifularo says his team is looking at various solutions, but there are challenges, especially load-shedding. He recently commuted in Paris in the all-electric Renault Zoe city car and says there were some issues, mostly non-functioning street-charging stations. So, it seems some European grids also are not coping with demand.
Another challenge with the electric Kwid is pricing. Prices start at €17,000 (R333,000). This is about R100,000 more expensive than even the priciest Kwid in this market. It would be unattainable and pointless to Kwid’s customer base, added the MD.
2035 fossil fuel ban
With Europe set on banning the manufacture of fossil fuel cars by 2035, Tshifularo outlines what he foresees will be the saving grace for markets behind the electric curve. He says the majority of Renaults sold in SA are built and sourced from India, and he anticipates this arrangement will continue beyond 2035.
He says there is talk of some of the Indian assembly plants already planning affordable new energy vehicles by then. Based on these outcomes, perhaps there will be something small, fully electric and suitable for our market conditions.

Renault Logo
Tumblr media
I chose the Renault Logo because of its simplicity. It is a simple shape that is recognized as Renault. It uses a diamond shape; it is also effective as it can easily be recognized at any size, colour or material. “ When somebody talks about the ‘diamond brand’, you know immediately that they mean Renault. For the past 90 years, the brand identity has been summed up by the letters in the name ‘Renault’ and by the diamond-shaped logo.” (Renault 120 years of brand identity - Renault Group)
