i don't think we've seen any other huntsmen who primarily do other things like Dr. Oobleck. like, yes, there are headmasters and teachers who are also huntsmen, but they all clearly are huntsmen first. unclear about leonardo. but how many other huntsmen out there are primarily academics? where are the huntresses who are more like field botanists who got a license for self defense skills? the farmers who were sent off to signal to learn how to protect the crops? now i'm imagining a research team setting out to study the canopy layer of a remote old growth forest and debating whether or not to invite Ben, the guy with a huntsman license and a track record for poor data collection, or putting half of their budget towards hiring a professional

in light of it being a more character focused volume, here are the top 3 things i want to see in rwby volume 9:
yang getting called out for her self sacrificial tendencies
yang getting called out for her self sacrificial tendencies
YANG GETTING CALLED OUT FOR HER SELF SACRIFICIAL TENDENCIES

What specifically makes you say that the Ozpin circle is basically a cult?
not "basically" a cult—it is a cult.
ozpin's inner circle is a religious organization dedicated to safeguarding four divine relics entrusted to their leader, who is literally the god of light's chosen one, until he deems humanity prepared for the final judgment. its notionally secular nature likely exists because ozma figured out that publicly doing this:
“The others cheered in agreement. The man considered. He had wanted to bring people together, and his efforts were finally bearing fruit. The accidental experiment was working, far better than any attempts he had planned in his previous lifetimes. “The people here believe in magic, though many have never seen it,” she said. “If you show everyone that it’s real, that the man with infinite lifetimes has returned as he promised—” [...] “She shook her head. “We trust in you and the fate you’ve laid out for us. We believe in the good of people and our shared responsibility to protect one another and Remnant. So many have heard our stories about you, but now you’re here, in the flesh. Your presence is living proof that everything you’ve said is true. It reinforces our beliefs and commitment to the Circle. Together, now, we will make ready for the final judgment.” [...] “And for a time, all that the woman had said seemed to come true. Many more followers flocked to Circle and their reputation and message spread all throughout Remnant. This was what he was here for, he thought. Perhaps, in the end, he would be able to rest.”
inevitably leads to conflict because, surprise! people don't like being told what to do by eschatological cults!
but ozpin's circle is not in fact secular—ozpin tells his hand-picked loyalists that the gods he serves are the Only True Gods and the whole point is that he's working to fulfill the mandate given to him by the god of light. the huntsmen academies are, inescapably, a religious institution.
moreover ozpin's circle is a cult not just in the broader sense of being religious in nature and dedicated to worship of a particular god but also in the narrower modern connotation of a high-control group organized around a charismatic leader. this is not a matter of interpretation; this is overt text. half the point of pyrrha's arc in V3 is to reveal this fact.
members of his inner circle are expected to work in absolute secrecy and—evinced by the antagonism between qrow and ironwood in V2-3, and the immediate suspicion of lionheart in V5—subject to intense scrutiny by other members against the possibility of betrayal. likewise, pyrrha is deliberately isolated from her peers (primarily through secrecy) and put under immense pressure when ozpin et al attempt to recruit her as their next fall maiden—all without informing her of anything beyond the very bare minimum facts of what they want her to do. "we can fill you in on the details once we know that you're with us."
and like. with the way those scenes in V3 are framed, with the very direct line drawn between ozpin's ruinous paranoia and secrecy and preoccupation with betrayal and ironwood's ruinous obsession with loyalty, and with the whole thing where the narrative continues to highlight how deeply and profoundly traumatized everyone who comes into contact with the inner circle ends up being... like, this is the intended reading. it is so unsubtle.
salem's circle is also a cult in the religious sense—she's, er, very explicitly receiving cult from tyrian and i would argue at least notionally from the others as well—and while it remains to be seen to what extent tyrian's belief that she would send him to hunt down anyone who left is grounded in reality, at a minimum she doesn't bother to do anything about it so the implicit threat is there to keep people in line.

I’ve been musing on the divide between Ruby & Yang in Volume 9 and had some thoughts.
See, Ruby didn't used to have trouble discussing her problems with Yang.
When they arrived at Beacon she was very expressive and in V2 she was fine vocalizing her worries and with relying on Yang to help Blake. After Yang is framed in V3 she also seems fairly confident Yang will bounce back. Then at the end of V3, she seemingly went to Yang in part expecting a degree of guidance and reassurance Yang just couldn't provide.
Ruby didn't seem to know how to deal with that & left, even if she did feel bad about it.
When Yang comes back Ruby is overwhelmed and its all loving and good, but Yang also quickly shows she's not as all right as she seems when Blake comes up. Again Ruby does not seem to know what to do, Yang's never 'needed' her before. This is also when Yang confirmed that she would be following Ruby's lead because she trusts her.
But, Ruby still clearly looks up to Yang, see Yang returning with the relic...
Still the pedestal Ruby kept Yang on was long since cracked and I think V6 is when it begins to fall entirely. Yang struggles more than Ruby is used to again, as does the rest of the team while Ruby is the only one to stay resolved.
Thus, I think this is where Ruby stared viewing Yang as someone else she needed to protect and guide, rather than confide and accept guidance from.
The thing is, Yang likely hasn't noticed how Ruby's perception of her has shifted because their dynamic hasn't changed over much. Plus she's always admired Ruby and so following her lead doesn't bother her, nor doe she feel a need to be 'in charge' so to speak.
Thus its not obvious to her that Ruby's mental image of Yang has shifted from "Protector" to "Someone I protect." and thus Ruby would not confide in her as she once did.

Maidens feel so disconnected from the rest. Its so easy to tell they weren't part of original plan.
To be honest, that's normal.
It's normal to not plan out every single bit. The key is to not contradict as one goes along. Maidens were something they thought up during or after V2? That's fine. Make it fit, make it work.
Generally a writer takes the beginning and the end, some important plot points that chart out character and story progression and then connects the dots, filling in the rest.
To paraphrase Ernest Hemingway, worldbuilding is an iceberg, the key is to show the parts that matter and infer the rest. But the person writing needs to know WHAT that rest is. If they don't know it's an iceberg, then neither will the audience.
To come back to Maidens concept, it's actually not that disconnected overall either. There's enough information and allusions to tie them to concepts of mythology and fairytales. And once everything falls into place, its pretty easy to see how.
The issue of disconnect mainly comes from connecting them to Two Gods subplot, which by turn moves them even further away from what the show was up to that point.
The concept feels disconnected because the writers did not ask "how does this connect to the rest of the show?"
What they DID ask however was "How can we connect them to the Four Relics?" which then became "How do we connect them to Two Gods?" (I firmly believe they came up with vaults and relics by drawing from rpg structure tropes, way before Miles dreamt up the gods).
The iceberg that they saw in their minds kept changing, if they saw it at all. And everyone knows what happens when sailors lose sight of what's underwater.

So what would happen if Michael decided to free Lucifer but he finds only his corpse and that of the other angels he bound to hell?
his suspended grief is finally let go, but is entirely consumed by the guilt of what has happened, of what he did and what has transpired in the time between though he knows he cannot fathom it. something in michael was prepared for this possible outcome, in fact may have expected it - something in his mind wants this to be an easier thought, that lucifer and all the angels with him did not have to suffer the horrors of hell, yet michael knows such thinking is a poorly applied balm on his part. they died, and he cannot say how long it has been; perhaps they died soon into banishment, perhaps they lasted centuries before succumbing, he can't know. and either way, they all died rejected, scorned, ripped forcefully from their only home and cast violently to the earth below without pity. angels severed from the love of god, dying in misery and abandonment of their father's love and all the host they loved in return. and if it lasted for decades or mere moments, it would be unbearable, an agony known only to themselves.
michael doesn't grieve well, he doesn't show emotions well, and so his reaction would be distinctly muted. v2 would see the subtle change in his carriage, his manner, so small but so indicative of an angel shattered who has barely been held together in all this time. the illusion breaks and it's not better. finding this isn't better than them spending all that time tortured in the dark. because he's here now, their suffering would have ended as much as it could ever have...but now there is no relief. they never knew forgiveness, they never knew love again. they died through their own goodness, their own rejection of a place that could have no part in a perfect creation. he is unworthy to stand before them so late, more angels he could not save. so v2 needs to help him move again, needs to help him speak and act, find where he takes himself from here. a funeral. a service. something so that they are remembered not as some vile monsters, enemies of god, but as the angels they were and still are, even in damnation, in death. and it is action that makes michael continue forward - he prays they are still somewhere, free souls and just as vibrant as they had been in heaven, and in that hope he will work for them. their names will return to paradise, michael will do all he can to remember lucifer as their prince and what his hopes had been for their home a long time ago. and michael will build it. all he can do for lucifer now is restore his legacy, to make all in heaven remember him as he will and to honor who he had been, as well as each angel that fell with him. and he hopes they know somewhere that they are loved once more.
there is a change in michael of course, something quietly gone from him in lucifer's true absence. the guilt that had hung over his head has washed through his whole being now, imbued his already suffering body with a spiritual anguish. he is an angel that now properly shows his age and makes little excuse for it - he is tired, he is full with his mistakes, and he moves forward despite knowing the damage is done. the world is godless and it is manifested best in michael, one who clearly sees himself as a relic that has outlived who and what he was made for, but unwilling just the same to stop. he has his brothers, he has v2, and he has what is left of heaven still - his brothers help shoulder the guilt of what's happened, v2 gives him the space to freely speak his thoughts and his grief in a way he never could, and he can see heaven heal from the damage that has been done. and it allows him to continue on. to return the spirit of lucifer to their home, to return his image to its stained glass and to sing the praises of all his angels once more is never enough, but michael accepts fate for what it is. it came to pass in this way and he cannot change that design, so he will work within it to do all he can.

I’m at OMAC Project in my booster reread and it’s nails on chalkboard that overnight we went from Booster being just Booster to everyone around him to suddenly everyone not only knowing the name Michael but using it exclusively
like not even a token attempt to explain it!! especially when Super Buddies v2 is running at the same time and in that the people who actually know Booster are calling him by Booster, his legal name he’s been using for over a decade in universe by that point, instead of this relic from the past (cough future) that’s suddenly been drug up

Chad V2 Weiss: "It's a job. We all had this romanticized vision of being a Huntress in our heads! But at the end of the day, it's a job to protect the people! And whatever we want, will have to come second."
Chad early V9 Weiss: "But it wasn't enough! We hatched a crazy plan that put a whole kingdom at risk, and we don't even know if we saved the Relics from... "
Honestly Weiss and Ruby sometimes make this show bearable and not so beyond hope. Yang and Blake are a joke though.
You have a lot more hope than I do, anon 😆

Small details make me wonder if the Grimm are really the kind of threat that Team RWBY and the huntsmen really think they are.
They're still DANGEROUS to be sure, but there seems to be a ton of little details that suggest they're less "abominable soulless and mindless creatures of destruction" and more akin to dangerously territorial wild animals that just happen to be created from Darkness.
The reason why we're inclined to believe that they're abominations is because of the expectations, and also because the only sources of information we have on them come from people who've spent their entire lives fighting against them.
If they were truly soulless, why did the Ursa show confusion at Yang's behavior? Why did those Sabyrs run away in terror when they saw the Hound? The Beringel that Ruby fought is clearly intelligent and roars in triumph when he seems to succeed at killing her. The Sphynx seemed confused and curious about what Yang and Blake were doing to it until it was too late. Even the Apathy were noted as being focused on finding their packmates after the farmer guy lured away their members in his harebrained scheme to calm his staff down.
More often than not, they seem to be reacting more often to BEING attacked, unless they were drawn in by strong negative emotions, are drawn in by a Relic, or being directed by someone else, with exceptions like the Nuckalavee being more due to the fact that that specific monster has a sadistic personality and clearly seems to enjoy hunting for humans and keeping trophies of its kills.
Plus, there's also the fact that towns, despite consistently being stated as being "defenseless and needing huntsmen"...kinda tend to be rather lax about their security, with them basically treating Grimm as being akin to a frustrating, but manageable nuisance. Even Oscar, who wasn't exactly trained as a fighter, treats killing a Grimm as something he can do just fine by himself. and Volume 4 was the one where it was made pretty clear that bandits (specifically, Raven's Tribe) were the ones who caused the damage to the towns like Shion, and the Grimm just popped up afterwards due to the negativity.
Also, being darkness made versions of wild animals with their own intelligence and personalities would still gel well with the details that we've seen. The Goliath in V2 are called cunning and waiting for their chance to strike, but elephants in real life are some of the most intelligent and complex animals with immense capacity for emotions and thought. If they're really just darkness made variations wild animals, why WOULDN'T they be resentful and pissed at being slaughtered?
And let's face it, real life flora and fauna are kinda terrifying. Fungus that can turn animals into zombies. Bees can kill a hornet by rapidly vibrating their bodies and cooking them to death. Many deep sea creatures look something out of a fantasy horror or Cthulu mythos story. Dolphins and Orcas are sadists who take great joy in tormenting their prey.
If the Grimm weren't made of darkness, they wouldn't be that different from wild animals that have their personalities and complex systems of behaviors.
We're told repeatedly that the God of Darkness' works were "vile imitations of life", but this is not only coming from people whose only source of information was unreliable narrator, but also one who was directly being influenced by the God of Light, who is pretty much a selfish tyrant who constantly did everything he could to maintain a relationship of dominance with his brother.
So frankly, it's possible that everything we know about Grimm is basically propaganda or pseudoscience perpetuated by a deeply flawed system. They're still a danger, but only if you're foolish enough to provoke them and/or only if someone else is deliberately setting them on you. But the Huntsmen Academies teach everyone that they're dangerous soulless creatures built on assumptions that in turn are built on a GoL-biased perspective, that the huntsmen academies are needed to exterminate the Grimm and that the world needs their protection... and no one is able or willing to consider repudiating this because the idea never occurred to them to do so.
It'd just be another layer to RWBY's theme of questioning and examining the narratives you've been told, even the ones that seem to be accurate.
EDIT: To be honest, that'd also put the Mountain Glenn situation in a different light too. That instead of Grimm being monsters who deliberately went out of their way to ravage the place, the people of Vale instead stupidly built the settlement ON TOP of a nest of Grimm in their territory, and accidentally provoked them.
EDIT2: I should note that this doesn't make Team Remnant bad guys or anything, but it's just showing that even when they're trying to do the right thing, it can be difficult to recognize the layers upon layers of propaganda and social conditioning set upon them by a flawed society. That even the things they take for granted as being true and correct are only seen as such because no one ever challenged the idea.
That's not "little details not adding up", that's reaching and deliberately misinterpreting or even outright ignoring the canon to support a conclusion you've already decided is true against a lack of evidence. RWBY has a lot of symbolism tied up in the Grimm, what they are and what they represent, and to throw that all away to "subvert expectations" would be a waste.
Also speaking as a biologist, Grimm do not act like wild animals except in a few behaviors like growling or snarling. They act like animal-shaped demons hellbent on eradicating human life.

The Big List of Skeleton Mods for the Sims 4
Skeletons! Introduced to us in the Jungle Adventure game pack, these bony buddies have been silently roaming our games since. Sort of. You know, when you are in those jungle temples or when you cast “Skeleton Blessing” using one of those nifty relics you can build.
It turns out that modders have been having lots of fun with skeletons since their release. If you want more from your Sims 4 skeletons than a spooky tomb buddy, a 12 hour buff, or a little flirt with Bonehilda, you should see what modders in the community have done to add a little sparkle to these tibias and fibulas.
*With any and all mods that you choose to download, make sure you read the instructions given by the creator and the warning about what files may conflict!
Find yourself some skeletal mods under the read more.
Tumblr media
_____________
How to become a Skeleton In Game
The way to get the Skeleton Blessing buff in game is to use the Balampalsoh Death Relic you can discover and build in Jungle adventure game play. Or, you can cheat the buff on which is add_buff Buff_Skeleton . This buff lasts 12 hours on its own.
Magic
I love Spellcasters and I love adding modded spells to them. Guess what? Skeletonize is a Spellcaster mod you can download! You need the spell and you also need the Spellbook Injector mod to use custom spells.
Skeletonize by: Zero
Spellbook Injector V2 by: Simsonian Library
Outfits
This one is easy, this modder simply unlocked the skeletons as costumes that you can apply in CAS.
Unlocked Jungle Adventure Skeleton Outfit by: blueshreveport
Outfits for All Ages
You want skeleton sims that are toddlers or children as well as adult framed sims? Wild! Good news is that Natalia Auditor has you covered on that. Oh, and these are Base Game compatible.
Skeleton for All Ages by: Natalia Auditor
Outfits and Custom Trait
This one is the fancy one, kids. You need XML injector for this to work.
Sims4 Skeleton Unlocked, Trait changed by: Gauntlet101010
XML Injector by: Scumbumbo
Permanent Skeleton Buff
I need to pop this in my game and see if I can play with it myself, but the description has it that the length of time your skeleton buff lasts depends on which relic you use to cast the buff in the first place. There is no cure for the permanent buff. Bonus mod here that makes all your skeletons spawn as the white ones! -- This hasn’t been updated since 2018, it may or may not work.
Permanent and Pearly White Skeletons! by: Liam’s Sims 4 Mods
Bonus Mods
How about one that uses the hidden skeleton buff trait to actually make a skeleton bloodline? Its so silly and yet so fabulous that of course a lovely modder made that exist.
Skeleton Bloodlines by: baniduhaine
And Icemumun came through unexpectedly with a small JA tweaks mod that includes an easy way to humanize your skeleton sims when the Skeleton Blessing buff is just lasting too long for your game play. You can direct click on the sim to remove the state, or, for fun, you can go and pray at the Selvadorada town square for Humanization.
Jungle Adventure Mods by: Icemunmun
____________
As of Feb 2023, all of these mods are working and *GASP* working well together in my game. Have fun!
Tumblr media
If I find more mods to add to this list, I sure will, but this is what I have right now.

Volume 9 thoughts
[Spoilers, possibly]
[Rambling ahead]
I don't want to throw out all hope that V9 won't be absolute ""filler"", but it clashes too hard with the high emotions of the V8 finale.
If V8 was trying to be V3 (it failed), then I guess one could say V9 is like V4.
Except V4, while personally being one of my lesser-favorite volumes, does a nice bridge between the absolute chaos of the V3 finale to the V5 chaos. It's slower, a lot more dialogue heavy, and yet manages to remain somewhat true to canon without breaking it too much.
V9, however, looks to be a V1 - V2 ish theme but definitely not nearly as light hearted. I mean, they look to be in fucking wonderland (I heard it's called the Ever After, which is not much better, in my opinion). We've got talking mice among possibly other wild scenarios.
Meanwhile in Remnant (? I don't think Ever After is part of Remnant, I don't know tho):
- Atlas has become Atlantis (to quote my brother, who I guess heard it from a review somewhere?)
- Everyone who didn't fall into The Void / died when Atlas fell is now in Vacuo, the last standing kingdom.
- Vacuo is already very much struggling with what the citizens have. Now what's left of an entire kingdom has been dumped in as well.
- Salem has 2 / 4 relics needed to end the world and is on her way to Vacuo, where the last relic is being held.
- Cinder is still here. Like a damn cockroach
Side rant: I'm sorry, I just don't care for her anymore. I miss V1 - V3 Cinder, who was a legitimate threat and actually scary. Now she's an villain who is funniest when she fails. When I see her now, the sense of dread is more like "ugh this bitch again" instead of before where I was like "oh shit she's back what is she gonna do now?".
Adding her backstory in V7 (or was it V8? I literally can't remember) did nothing for me. It was way too on the nose, there was nothing subtle about it. And the song playing was basically beating the audience over the head with what was happening. It's too late to give her backstory, now it's completely unnecessary. It means nothing. And she has resorted to relying on the maiden powers in fights, makimg her fights boring and monotonous.
Also in Remnant:
- A shit ton of people fell into the void
- Penny is dead. Again. But permanently.
Meanwhile:
Our mains are in some weird wonderland like world where I'm guessing Neo somehow already has what looks like some sort of gang (in the intro, she's seen drinking tea with a bunch of shadowy people behind her).
There's also the mystery girl, who may have something to do with Ruby.
The intro hints that Ruby has become far more depressed and not nearly as hopeful as she once was. In the beginning, we see her as she transitions between her outfits over the volumes, while her emblem slowly fades.
While her team is running through various scenes, Ruby is dragging her feet, noticeably falling behind everyone else.
I hope this actually goes somewhere and makes Ruby + WBY + Jaune realize that they (especially Ruby) haven't made the best decisions as of late.
I haven't seen Episode 1, but I've heard some bits and pieces of it and I'm generally not thrilled. I know it's only the first episode, but I'm really not down for this whole wonderland shenanigans thing when the real world of Remnant is in danger of literally ending.
I don't know, it really feels like how when the White Fang arc was abruptly cut short and dropped (rip most of Blake's character). Things have gotten too heavy and too much, so the writers cut to something else entirely.
In this case, something comedic (or at least trying to be)
A / N 1: Apparently there's a con-man raccoon called Jinxy who is very... Stereotyped and racist. I have not seen this character, but from what I've heard... I don't think I want to know.

BLACK HOLE DROID V2 (”Talons”) - an old MOC I recreated and revamped in Bricklink Studio. .
Lore: “Talons” is the second droid designed to explore the high gravity planes. Over some time, it was repurposed to serve the "Blackhole Squad" - consisting of former droids that had obtained self-sentience and rebelled. The group was originally founded by Blackhole Droid V0 ("Master").  It feels conflicted over following Ivy, who usurped "Master", but enjoys its greater freedom and tasks to excavate artifacts.
It is currently tasked with uncovering any powerful relics forgotten by the Great Beings on Spherus Magna. It uses mini-blackholes in its mining operations.
