The American rapper born David Jude Jolicoeur, who was one-third of the hip-hop trio De La Soul, has died at the age of 54, All Hip Hop reported. Though the exact cause of death was not known, he had been struggling with health issues over the past few years. Station Tilburg, foto Chris Oomes. De man op de foto doet me denken aan een Tilburgs stadstype. Tweede helft jaren '80 passeerde hij wel eens mijn studentenhuis in de Karrestraat.

Hij leek op dichter Hans Verhagen, zijn haar was geel geverfd. Hij droeg gestreepte leggings en zwarte leren jassen uit het pre-vintage tjjdperk.

Het grote stadsfiguur had een bijnaam die ik vergeten ben. Hij maakte de indruk dat hij flink aan de coke zat, ook gezien zijn altijd wat haastige manier van lopen.

Niet zelden werd hij geëscorteerd door twee zeer jonge meisjes, die arm-in-arm met hem door de Karrestraat beenden, zo te zien ook in strakkere sferen. Overigens groette hij me altijd vriendelijk.

Later ontmoette ik de cokeman op het reggaefestival Mundial in Tilburg. Hij was afgekickt en werkte voor de verslavingszorg.
