I get what you’re saying but you really don’t need to be including defending whitewashing as well. Being in this fandom is very frustrating as a poc sometimes, especially when white or light skinned poc continuously brush off our concerns
I’m going to put this as delicately as possible, because you just brought a very sensitive topic to the table.
I need you to understand, that at no point during my comment of people tearing apart the new designs, I said whitewashing is an ok thing to do. That I’m defending whitewashing. That sure is a phrase to use. I don’t necessarily appreciate you inserting that narrative into my discussion, because that’s not really the point I was trying to make, because - at the end of the day - it’s not my place to say. I’ve never, ONCE, tried to talk over POC in regards to whitewashing in the fandom. I know for a fact that there have been many problems with fan artists whitewashing Beau and it’s very upsetting; trust me, I get it. I gently have to disagree that’s what is happening with the official art/designs, but I’m not here to talk over anyone’s thoughts either. Like I said, and I’m sure anyone who has followed me for a while could tell you, I tend to stay in my lane and kind of keep my opinions on fandom drama to myself. Especially with all the shipping nonsense that has been going around.
When I said “hey, the designs are fine, stop spreading hate” I was saying that to the people who are insisting that these characters don’t look like how they want them to. That they’ve gotten a little too used to fanon designs. That Jester needs to be fatter (which none of her designs ever were, mind you - and I say this as a fat woman so-) and that she looks “too much like a mom now” whatever that’s supposed to mean. It was about the people insisting Veth isn’t fat enough when... she still clearly is, which is great! Her new outfit isn’t really form fitting so it’s not like we can see everything going on anyway, which doesn’t super matter! It was about people complaining that Caleb just looks “like a dude” now. Which, he always has? He’s, visually, just a human man lol. It’s comments like those that I have a sincere issue with.
So, my point, that you said you understood what I was saying, is that people who want to do nothing but nitpick at designs that aren’t theirs and complain and hate on a show/cast/crew/artist who are doing what they want to do is just... not really something I like being a part of. I like the show, but I’m starting to get burnt out from the drama that has been tending to follow an episode every week. The CR community is just... not what it was when I first joined. It was a loving and welcoming place where we all enjoyed the show and knew it wasn’t our game and that we didn’t have control over it. Clearly the cast approved and had a big part in getting the commissions of the new designs done. People acting like the cast are trying to “karenify” their faves or that the artist did anything “against their will” is just... I’m tired.
So no, I’m not over here trying to talk over POC about whitewashing. That was never the intention, and I’m honestly surprised you got to that point. What I’m saying is that there are too many people watching the show who seem to really hate everything about it, and I don’t think that’s great for their mental health or that of those around them. If you’d like talk further with me about any other concerns you have as a separate issue, by all means. I’m here for an open discussion and I’m not against hearing other people’s thoughts on the matter. But please, don’t misconstrue my meanings like that or accuse me of things I’m not doing.
