Latergram of my MLK Day uplifted by the Atlanta community as the LGBTQ Marshall for the march and speakout. Led by Black queer and trans women, we re-centered Black women, at the front of the movement but the sidelines of history. We were powerful and visible #qtpoc #queer #lgbtq #atlanta #mlkday #ReclaimHerDream #ReclaimTheDream

On Monday, January 19th, we will be marching in the Annual MLK Day Parade under the banner of ‪#‎ReclaimHERDream‬ to RECLAIM the radical legacy of Black women in the Civil Rights Movement. The success and power of Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement was created through the labor, love, and genius of many working-class, queer and straight, cis and trans Black women and their sacrifices. Black women risked their lives on the frontlines of the Civil Rights Movement, only to be relegated to the sidelines of history.
We march to RECLAIM THE DREAM of Ella Baker, Fannie Lou Hamer, Septima Clark, Pauli Murray, Diane Nash, the Four Little Girls, the women of SNCC, SCLC, CORE, and the other countless and nameless women and girls who lives did not MATTER in the making of history. Because
Black women suffered the same abuses of Black men in the fight for freedom. We too, were lynched. And we too, are being murdered, shot, beaten, and RAPED in silence. We march to end the of violence against Black Women, Black Girls, and Black Femmes! Because ‪#‎BlackWomenMatter‬

Black organizers stormed city hall with demands to end violence on black communities. "Today and every day we pledge to resist all state-sanctioned violence, including the economic oppression of Black people in this city. Gentrification and displacement of Black residents is also a form of violence we challenge and resist today."

Support the MLK D.A.R.E. march!
Help make it happen for MLK D.A.R.E March - Philadelphia http://t.co/9HcPpB8tnR #indiegogo via @indiegogo
— Candace (@DizzyKittyBakes) January 9, 2015
Philly friends, help fund the MLK D.A.R.E. march! The coalition needs funds to buy megaphones, sound equipment and other supplies for the march on MLK Day. We hope to have 10K people out on the streets of Philly marching to Independence Mall. Please consider donating, even it if it just a dollar.
