Hey! ho! let’s go!

i go by the name deicide (deidei for short), im eighteen years old and i am a “new” simblr. i tried my hand at a simblr a couple years ago before my interest faded but now it’s back! and i am back- w/ hotass sims >:]!!

i usually only hang out in cas, shoving in cc despite the constant low storage warnings my laptop screams at me. so i’ll probably be posting lookbooks, random screenies, renders, etc etc- i DO however have oc ideas i might throw around once in a while bc i made a group of, hear this, monster hunting cyberpunk fucker and i have so many ideas for edits and shit.

a bit more about me, apart from sims, i enjoy shounen manga, women, dmc, trap metal, fashion, graphic design, isekai light novels, women, minecraft, timebombs (the podcast) and much more things i cannot name off the top of my head. im afro-latine and genderwise? a fucken mess but i just say im nonbinary and use any pronouns.

slight disclaimers i curse a lot, i also talk too much when im over excited (or nervous) and idk if simblrs use tone tags but i’ll probs end up using them on my posts bc i get hella fucken anxious i come off as rude or anything :sweating:

ACNH DIRECT RECAP 2/20/2020

There was an animal crossing: new horizons direct today! Here’s the biggest hits from it! Also, this post is very, very long and very in-depth (i spent well over an hour on it) so there is a cut in the beginning to save your dashboard!

btw you can watch the direct for yourself here. And if you enjoy this recap, you might want to join my animal crossing discord server!

First of all, you can pick your island (and further customise the terrain but I’ll get to that later)

And you can pick the northern or southern hemisphere! You’ll be able to experience all four seasons regardless of your pick!

You start off with two villagers! You then get an orientation from Tom Nook, Timmy, and Tommy!

You can pick where your villagers live!!! You can also see the borders of how much space the tents will take up.

BTW we’re only four minutes in to a 27 minute presentation so click the “keep reading” to see the whole recap!

Facilities

The plaza (the leaf on the map) has Resident Services, which is run by the nooks to provide, well, basic services. They sell tools, flowers, and medicine for wasps! There’s also a crafting table to make more stuff! And it’s open 24/7!!!

Crafting works by learning the recipe, and then gathering the crafting supplies to make it! You just make it at the crafting bench in the top right corner.

You can customize furniture really easily in this game! And, Custom Designs Are Back! (more on that later)

The Airport! It’s also open 24/7 and you can travel to other islands and send letter to your residents here! Also it’s run by the cutest dodo bird

You can have 8 people on one island!

Nook Inc. Special Services

CEO Tom Nook delivers an Island Broadcast aka morning news to everyone, yall my heart

The Nook Mileage Program is a lot like MEOW Coupons from acnl! Do some tasks to earn miles, to then get rewards! They’re also used to pay off the Getaway Package cost! (yall gonna need 5,000 miles for that btw)

We’ve got tool rings y’all!!!

Wasps, scorpions, and tarantulas are back y’all! Ya know how when you got bit by a tarantula or stung by a scorpion in new leaf you’d just pass out? Well wasps can do that now so #YouCanDieInACNH kldkfjdlfjfhjdffj

These aren’t here for any particular reason, I just thought the mushroom lights were pretty

My boy Wisp is back! It looks like you can collect ghosts in this game (which you could do in older games as a friend informed me)

My other son is also back!

Apparently you can get lost and need to call a helicopter to take you home? how big are these islands??

You can build a house! and the villagers face omfg thats a great screenie Tom Nook is also supplying loans with no interest or deadlines still! thank god

The secret storage room is also back!

It appears you can change the direction of the flooring at least!

The Happy Home Designer-esque room decorator is here!

Get those snazzy houses! It appears you can have 4 rooms in your house (the main room, one to the left, right, and back)

You can use Nook Miles Tickets to go on Island Tours! You can do things like the acnl island tours, along with picking up some animal friends! There’s multiple islands and it seems to be random every time.

Apparently you can jump over small rivers to escape the tarantulas and scorpions fvbvsjfbvjlsfbvhj

Party Play lets you call residents who live on the same island as you for some local co-op!

Creatures found by the people you’re playing with are stored in the recycle box at resident services!

The Nintendo App finally has a gosh damn use! You can scan qr codes from happy home designer and new leaf! As well as talk to the people you’re playing with!

Part 2 of the Presentation

Ya’ll you can decide where your new residents will live before-hand! You can invite some residents to live on your island as well!

More Facilities!!! The facilities shown in the direct were: the museum, nook’s cranny, able sisters, the campsite

You can move your house AND the shops and facilities once they’re built it seems!

Town services is supposed to expand into a town hall and ya’ll know what that means!!

ISABELLE!!!

Some other fan favorites will also be visiting the island! These include: Label, Harvey, Celeste, Saharah, Daisy Mae (more on her in a bit), and Kicks!

Celeste can give you a magic wand that lets you select outfits!

Daisy Mae is a new NPC who sells turnips! I speculate she’s the child of Joan, but we don’t know yet.

Fishing Tourneys and Bug Offs are now hosted by CJ and Flick! Flick is my entire aesthetic I love him!!

Free updates are coming with seasonal festivities! My main man Jack is back yall!

Island Customization is expansive! Rip homebrew bc there is no need anymore! We have easy paths, bridges, ramps, river customization, cliff customization, AND you can make your own damn waterfalls! (i’d recommend watching the direct starting at 20:49 to fully grasp this bc it’s a lot)

1. Up to 8 people can share an island on the same switch system 2. Animal Crossing Amiibo figures and cards are supported! They mentioned add availability to more Amiibos, so maybe the loz and splatoon ones will be added! 3. No more griefing! Only your best friends can use certain tools while visiting your island! 4. Multiplayer sessions appear to each have their own code! 5. Save backups via the Nintendo Cloud thing aren’t supported. Watch at 25:34 for more information! 6. F.A.Q./Tags

Why do you go by Scum?

It’s just a nickname that I like! I don’t like my real name and would rather not go by it online. If calling me straight up 'Scum' is uncomfortable, you can call me 'Scummy'.

Do you write for ships?

If I like the ships in question, sure! Sometimes I might not if I think one character is too hard to write for, though.

Why don’t you write fantasy themes?

I am, not that creative, to be blunt HAHA. I get that Ikevamp is fantasy technically, but hard fantasy is something I can’t do. 'Realistic' fiction is my strong suit.

Why do you screenshot replies?

Sometimes I'd like to open more discussion on what is being talked about if it's game related, with tumblr's new feature of being able to change which of your blogs can reply to a comment now, I don't need to screenshot replies as often as I used to.

This is a side blog?

Yeah, I don't talk about my 'main' blog often since I'll occasionally reblog horror art or similar uncomfy things, and I honestly don't use it much.

My main is @strawberry-scum, and my likes/follows come from that blog. If you want to block me properly, you'll need to block that blog (and this one!). If you only block my writing blog, I can still interact with your posts from main and I won't be able to realize you have me blocked!

I tagged you in something and you didn't respond...

Sometimes I don't get notifs for tags! I have realized Tumblr has added a feature to where if OP has me blocked, or if I have OP blocked, I don't seem to get notifs when I am tagged on their post and I can't reblog them!

But also, I tend to forget to respond to tags at times. I enjoy them!! I am happy to be tagged! I am just a scatter brain and forget to respond later.

Tags for folks who may wanna blacklist them:

‘Replies’- This is for the posts where I reblog/ screenshot replies to my posts.

‘Comms’- For any discussion about me taking commissions/commission posts. I know it bothers some folks so to avoid folks gettin grumpy, there is that tag to use.

‘Spoilers’- On the off chance I reblog anything containing some spoilers, I’ll be using this tag. It also applies to any recent routes/events that are either ongoing or relatively new, and jp spoilers.

Typically, if it is smth specific, like concerning a brand new route to a game, I will tag it as [game] spoilers or similar. Concerning routes, I like to have a monthlong grace period from the route release to keep tagging spoilers about that route. Otherwise, after that month, I won't tag it as spoilers any longer.

'q' - Is my queue tag! I am too lazy to type out the full word on the rare occasions I load it up.

'Srb' - Means Self ReBlog! For when my q is reblogging older works of mine that you've maybe already seen!

'Scum Simps' - When I am going Feral over any character I am gonna try to tag it as this. 'Scum plays' tag will be paired with this often.

'Scum Plays' - When I post screenies of ikemen games or talk about ongoing game events/routes.

'Scum Talks' - I am trying to tag any talking that is writing updates and similar with this. I forget often and I apologize in advance.

'Gil Posting' - For when I'm talking about Gilbert. I've gotten messages in the past from people who dislike him Greatly, and since I don't want every post I make about him going in official tags, I'll try to use this tag.

'Scum Rants' - once in a while, I'll rant about fandom issues as a whole (not specifically the fandoms I am in, just generalized fandom behavior), or issues with online spaces in general. These posts are never pointed directly at a single person, since I don't enjoy 'vaguing' people who may follow me and similar, these posts are typically me just getting annoyed at awful behaviors being repeated around various social media or bad writing/fandom takes that friends/I have suffered through.

This is the tag I'll use for those rants! If you think it's about you, it's not! I would have uh. Blocked you to be blunt.

'Qotd' - for when I am replying to Questions of The Day, from @ikemen-daily-questions .

It's likely I'll forget to use these tags occasionally, and while I usually don't mind making specific tags for people to block specific content, at the end of the day this is my blog. I'm gonna ramble and talk about what I want. If you don't want the rambling, I suggest just paying attention to my ao3 for fic updates.

Why You Should Try to Comment on Fan and Original Works, Not Just Like/Kudos/Bookmark

So I saw a post sorta talking about this, but it was tumblr-focused and talked more about how to reblog/was more of a venting topic. I would like this to be a topic that can go for any site that people post fan and original works on: fanfiction.net, ao3, tumblr, lifejournal, wattpad, patreon, instagram, etc. I also want it to be clear this is for all forms of works, including fan/fic, fan/art, even aesthetics, meta, etc. Honestly, this also goes towards all the kind souls creating Instead of creators lamenting, I want us to explain why comments helps us out so much more than likes/kudos/wordless reblogs/etc.

Hence: Why You Should Try to Comment on Fanworks, Not Just Like/Kudos/Bookmark

Because it shows appreciation and that you actually took the time to look at/read our art.

Likes and kudos are super easy to give out. We get that. But you know what’s not easy? The time, effort, and dedication we took creating something. Liking/kudoing something is great! But it also gets really tiring for us. It’s like a round of applause after giving a speech. It’s nice, it helps break the tension... but then the host asks the audience if they have any questions or comments and it’s just radio silence. Then it gets embarrassing and stressful, and you feel like you must have done something wrong because a good speech should provoke reactions and interest.

If you just like/kudos our work, it could just mean you saw it. You showed up in the audience and clapped when everyone else did. But it doesn’t mean you were present - that you listened, that you really took in or cared about our work. Maybe you liked it because you wanted to read it later. Maybe you liked it because you recognized the name and just liked that we were posting.

Liking/kudoing is nice. It really is. But it’s just not as fulfilling as actually interacting with us.

Because it lets us know that people care and encourages us to keep posting, keep trying, keep working at it.

I’m positive that you all have worked at something in your life and consistently don’t or didn’t get gratitude for it. It wears on you, doesn’t it? Even a once enjoyable task that you were passionate about becomes a grating chore. Nobody seems to care or recognize your effort. Doing the thing becomes annoying and frustrating, like what’s the point? It’s human to just need a little recognition. Just for someone to notice and say thanks every once in a while!

Lack of interaction with people taking in our creations can absolutely wear us down. It can mean our muse disappears and we hit writers block. It can make sharing our work more stressful than it is fun. It can burn out creators from creating that content that you love when nobody interacts with us. It’s happened to every single one of us at some point that we at least take a break, if not leave creating for fandom forever. But if people are saying thank you and are letting us know they do appreciate our work, it encourages motivation so much more and keep us creating and growing.

You’ll see stories of this on other posts, but fanfic writers have been encouraged to suddenly take up and complete years old fics due to someone coming along and reviewing. Really, comments can mean so much to us. If you’re not a creator, you may not really understand this, but I have a folder where I’ve saved screenies of kind comments and reviews for bad days when I need the uplift. Reviews and comments can mean absolutely everything to us.

Because it’s kind. A common courtesy to thank someone for their gift, if at all possible.

In most these cases, you are getting to consume our work for free. The very least you can do is let us know that you saw and appreciated our work. We’re like musicians who play on the street corner. We like to please and entertain you. But we cannot sustain ourselves always doing it just for free. It feels good when people who enjoy our work say something to let us know, do something to show their appreciation.

If a friend surprises you with a gift, do you take the gift and run away from them? Or do you say thank you so much for thinking of me, this means a lot? When someone does something nice for you, when they think of you, it’s kind to tell them you appreciate the sentiment.

Our creations are a gift. We do not share them because we have to or because our work is only valid when consumed or any such nonsense like that. We share them because it made us happy to create them. We want to share that joy with others! We want to entertain you and put you through a journey. We want you to experience that content that you love. That distracts you from your life for a little while and just lets you experience something new altogether.

What we create is a gift. Please treat it as such.

Because it can make you feel happy and satisfied, too.

Whether a creator responds or not, it can give you satisfaction to know that you were able to, in some way, return the favor to the creator for the gift they gave you. It is always nice to be appreciated. Obviously, creator and fan cannot endlessly interact going “thanks”, “you’re welcome, thank you”, “of course”, etc. But a simple comment can make a creator’s night, and you should feel good about fostering that.

Okay, so now you know why creators really, really try to encourage fans to interact with us with comments, not just likes/kudos/etc. But I know from my fandom forum days that a lot of people don’t review because they are intimidated.

We’re the creators. We do not expect each and every fan to write a novel in response to our fic, art, post, etc. You don’t need to do anything more than tell us “thanks” to life our spirits and make your gratitude known! I’m not exaggerating. The different between someone tagging a post “thanks” and everyone either just liking the post or reblogging it with absolutely no comment is world’s apart.

That’s it. That’s literally it. If you don’t know what else to say, if you don’t feel you can particularly communicate your feelings... just say thanks!!! It’s such a nice thing to hear.

If you loved it, just say “i love this!” That’s all that’s needed! You don’t need to make this complicated! Share the positive feelings you felt or simply thank us for creating/sharing. That’s enough!!!

And so few people do this. If even just a fourth of fans started doing this, we’d feel 100x happier sharing our work!

If you want to expand more, here’s some things you can keep in mind to add to your review:

What do you like about the creation? A specific line, a character’s characterization, the colors, the unique style, a specific event, a headcanon, a a part of some analysis you never thought of before?

Do you have any questions? Was there a plot hole or something you didn’t understand? Maybe you learned something or want to know where an artist learned some technique? Are you wondering why character A made some choice rather than what you would have picked?

Do you want to see more? What in particular do you want to see more of? Did you like the plotline with a specific character and want to see how that plays out or you would love to see x character in an artist’s style or maybe an analysis didn’t take a whole episode into account that you think would be interesting to compare?

What feelings did the creation invoke in you? Were you struck with a sense of awe or overwhelming happiness? Were you excited to see someone doing something you’ve always wanted to see or excited at a new idea you never thought of? Did it strike a personal chord with you or bring about a feeling of nostalgia? Were you scared or sad or anxious for intense scenes?

Is there room for growth? Can you help encourage this growth by reminding them how far they’ve come already and how good they’re doing and how you can’t wait to see where they go next?

But we absolutely do not expect this from everyone, though it always, always tickles us and makes our week when anyone does post a longer review. Adding a simple ‘thanks’ in addition to or instead of liking/kudoing/reblogging without comment/etc. will seriously help keep creators creating and sharing.

Woo!

Yay, I’ve got some time to kill for once! with that said, I have already reblogged an edit to Luna since her creator decided to change her, and I’ll finally get to do a traits post for Elora, which means I can get started with writing!
