It is nearly midnight when you creep into the castle library, slippers softly pitter-pattering against the marble tiled floor as you swing the large doors open. A long day of attending to the duties of a princess left no room for reading and it was now in the hours of the castle’s silence that you can sneak in a chapter or two of your favorite volumes in the large collection of books held in the East Wing. Rather inconvenient since your living quarters are in the West Wing, making sneaking out of bed ever riskier the longer you spend out and about. Larger chances that one of the guards patrolling at night will surely spot you with the burning candle that provided light for your eyes as you turn each page of the dusty spines.
Your ears pick up the sound of the heavy doors creaking open again and you promptly blow out the candle flame in a quick puff of breath, body still and heart beating twice as fast when footsteps approach closer and closer to your corner of the library. Whoever it is better go away before—
An amused chuckle sounds from above your head and you squeeze your eyes shut, both hands holding the open book over your head to protect from potential skull damage.
“I was not aware there was someone else in the library at such late hours.”
You wince as you force your numb legs to stand, tucking the closed volume back under your arm, unable to put a name to the soft face that stares back. He didn't look to be a guard, but you had still been seen and faced the risk of being reported to the King if this stranger decided to turn you in.
“Um,” you begin, not knowing how to get out of this one. “I can explain…”
“Oh, I’m not kicking you out,” he chuckles, a dimple carved against his reassuring smile. “I was just surprised to see someone else here.”
“Hmm.” Making your way back to the stepladder at the far-right side of the wall, you climb up until you find the spot you were looking for, placing the book back in its rightful slot before making your way down to solid ground again.
“What were you reading before I interrupted?” he asks out of curiosity.
“A tale of two cities,” you answer. “Warring cities that absolutely despised each other until an enemy from foreign lands attacks both kingdoms and they must unite to remain the last ones standing.”
“Not my first guess,” he says in amusement. “I would have thought a lady such as yourself would choose a book on jewelry or something more lighthearted like a fairy tale.”
Your nose scrunches, the following sniffle unusually amplified in the silence as you proceed to exit the library.
“Will I see you again in the castle?”
He looks genuinely interested in your answer, waiting expectantly as he quickly covers his mouth to stop the yawn climbing up his throat.
“Perhaps,” you reply with a huff, not owing him anything. “Good night.”
A servant knocks on your door early morning and alerts you of guests who have arrived at the castle late last night, guests you were expected to meet and greet as the princess of your esteemed kingdom. Princess you were, but it is too early in the morning; you shoo the servant away in hopes of stealing another ten minutes of sleep.
“Your Highness, I really need to get you ready to greet the guests.”
“My parents can greet them,” you mumble from behind your covers. “Her Highness is quite unwilling to have an audience so early in the morning.”
“Ridiculous,” a new voice sounds from behind the door. “Get up before I make you get up.”
You immediately sit up and open the door, eyes widening at the sight of your disgruntled older brother.
“May I please be excused, oh wonderful older brother of mine?”
The compliment gets you nowhere and he crosses his arms. “Ten minutes or I’m confiscating the rest of your books.”
“You have no right!”
“I have every right. Nine minutes.”
He leaves without another word and you stick out your tongue, most improper for a lady of your caliber before allowing the servant in to help you get ready for these seemingly important guests.
“Finished, Your Highness.”
You frown and tug at the ribbon tied around your neck, tossing the strip of fabric onto the floor and stomping on it with your heels before turning to the servant with a smile.
“I despise anything cuffed around my neck. Next time it won’t be the ribbon that gets stepped on, but rather your left hand.”
“Y-Yes, Your Highness.”
Nodding, you exit your room and make your way to the Throne Room at a snail’s pace, mussing your hair to look as homely as possible to spite the formality of the occasion.
“Your Highness.”
You nod and the doors open, revealing your parents already seated in their thrones while your brother glances at you sternly for taking longer than the designated ten minutes to get ready. If your parents were displeased, they didn’t show it, simply motioning for you to take your seat while your father’s head advisor gestures to the herald to bring in the guests.
“Dear, what happened to your hair?” the Queen asks worriedly. “Did a rat run over it while you were getting it done this morning?”
“Mother, I…” You pause. “Doyoung messed it up.”
“I did not!” your brother exclaims. “You—”
“He did,” you whine, giddy as you pretend to cry. “He threatened me with only ten minutes to get ready!”
Doyoung attempts to defend himself against your accusations but fails miserably when the Queen begins to lecture him on a lady’s proper dressage, a procedure that certainly requires longer than ten minutes for proper execution.
“The guests are here, Your Majesty.”
“Bring them in,” your father calls, putting a stop to the conversation. “Doyoung, next time do not interrupt your sister when she is getting ready.”
You adjust your position, pleased at the scowl on your brother’s face as you follow your father’s example in bowing to the faraway visitors, face slightly paling when you notice the younger of the two.
Please, Heaven forbid he remembers me from my midnight escapade to the library.
“It is an honor to have you and your son visit our kingdom,” your father begins. “Allow me to introduce to you the rest of the royal family.”
The Queen nods in greeting and your brother follows suit while you hurriedly run your fingers through your hair to push down the stray strands sticking upwards. The elaborately tied braid trailing down your back now loose and soon to be undone entirely, you try to locate your servant among the bunch standing by the side so she can come fix it for you.
“This is my daughter, who I’m sure will get along well with your son.”
“Oh, you’re Princess Y/N?”
You freeze, and the neighboring prince who had caught you in the library smiles as he bows in return. Either he ignored your unkempt hair or genuinely liked you regardless because he offers nothing but warm smiles and attentiveness to the details of the conversation, particularly that of those pertaining to you. He picks up quickly on answers to questions about your interests, enthusiastic towards any chances to learn more about you. No mentions of your messy appearance are made and you put on the politest smile you can muster onto your face, making it through the morning meal without making yourself too big of a fool in the presence of guests from a neighboring kingdom.
“How about you and Jaehyun go for a walk in the gardens?” your mother suggests once the utensils have been put down, plates emptied save for a few glasses of water. “It is beautiful outside and I’m sure a princess and prince will have plenty to talk about.”
“Mother, I—”
Your father seconds the suggested idea and you reluctantly stand up, bowing to signal your departure from the morning court before exiting with Jaehyun following behind.
The gardens do not excite you as they usually do, primarily because of the second set of footsteps sounding from behind.
“I’d really appreciate it if you stopped following me.”
Jaehyun smiles. “So you were the one I saw in the library last night?”
“So what if it was?” you refute. “Do you have a problem with that?”
Taken aback by your aggressive tone, the prince takes a step back and the walk proceeds with you walking as quickly as possible to get him off your tail. Your pace is fast, but the prince’s long legs allow for him to catch up with you easily, and you let out a disgruntled huff when you notice the shadow behind you outside of the gardener’s shed.
“Will you please stop following me now?”
“I’m afraid I’d get lost if I wander on my own.”
Letting out a tiny groan, you turn towards him and cross your arms, studying the prince in his tall stature and soft dimpled smile.
“Can you show me around?” he asks. “Where are your favorite spots, if you have any?”
You jerk your head towards the left and lead him to a small gazebo just a few feet away from the stables, bushels of red and white roses growing in an enclosed circle that wrap around the structure like the finishing touch of a ribbon atop a fully wrapped gift box. Quaint, secluded, you inform him that no one in the family ever frequented this spot, a well-kept secret between yourself and the stable boys who periodically make the rounds leaving water for the roses and tidying up the benches of dust or leaves that get blown in during windier days.
“And do you bring books to read here?”
You shrug. “Sometimes. But usually when I’m here, I just like to sit and watch the sky.
“Oh, that cloud over there that looks like a puppy!”
He follows your line of sight and frowns, not quite seeing it. “Doesn’t it look more like a sheep than a puppy?”
The next hour flies by as you point out notable clouds to Jaehyun, the prince equally as excited in providing his own take on each cloud and conjuring up short stories with the characters you spot within the fluffs of white. Warm laughter and delightful giggles in the air, your hostile front from the morning is basically extinguished in a snap, and he notes it as he leans against one of the gazebo columns, a smile of intrigue dancing across his lips.
“You’re not as mean as you came off to be, Princess Y/N.”
Pretending not to have heard his remark, you step down from the gazebo and squat before a bush of red roses, fingers gently working its way around the stems to pluck the flower free.
“For you, Prince Jaehyun.”
He follows your voice and marvels at the offered flower. “For me?”
“Yes. If you…” Reaching for his coat, you tuck the rose into his lapel and the speck of red is a beautiful contrast to the dark blue fabric. “See? Now you don’t look as… imposing.”
“I must admit, you have an eye for colors, Princess.”
The compliment hitting the right spots for your ego, you smile and hold up a hand to brush away a strand of stray hair that had come loose from your amateur skills in tying back your hair into a braid. “Thank y—”
“You’re bleeding.”
His hand brings yours close and you see it, the small incision along your index finger surprisingly bright with scarlet.
“Oh.”
“You must have gotten it from plucking the rose.” A small silk handkerchief wraps its way around your finger, tied off with a butterfly knot. “Please allow me to escort you back to the castle to get your finger treated before it gets infected.”
You glance at the extended arm and nod.
“T… Thank you.”
Your parents seem delighted at your warming up to Prince Jaehyun, Doyoung certainly surprised at seeing you early in the morning for breakfast before leaving to spend the day with the neighboring prince. After visiting the garden, you had shown him the rest of the castle, his most-wanted location of visit still being the library he had previewed during his first day of arrival to your kingdom.
“Don’t scream once you enter, that goes against library protocol.”
The library’s doors are pushed open and a soft gasp of wonder leaves his mouth at seeing the immense number of books shelved on the tall cabinets of your library.
“Your library is beautiful.”
“Is it? I’m sure yours is just as grand.”
“Mmm… perhaps if you cut off this entire left side, then you’ll have the size of my library.”
Making your way to your designated reading spot, you let out a snort of disbelief at finding your favorite armchair already occupied by another.
“Oh, Claude, you big cloud!” Picking up the white Persian cat sitting dead center on the chair, you place him on your lap once you settle in and from the corner of your eye notice the prince gliding a hand over one of the shelves.
“Have you read all these books?” Jaehyun inquires.
“I hope to get there eventually,” you answer, reaching over to your left to pull a book off the closest shelf. Opening the volume to one of the dog-eared tabs, your eyes skim the contents of the page, warm rumbling of the purring cat in your lap eliciting a head pat on his head before returning to your reading.
“I used to spend a lot of time in my own library,” Jaehyun reminisces. “But I haven’t had the time to do much of that now, unfortunately.”
“Why not?”
“Well… I suppose that will be a story for another time.”
You refrain from pressing on and silence overtakes the space once more, pages turning and a purring Claude the only sounds heard in the enormous library. Once you finish your book, you do your best to not shift the cat out of your lap, leaning over to switch the book out for one of its neighbors.
“Jaehyun, do you think you can tell me more about your kingdom before you leave? I’d like to know more about your home, if that’s possible.”
“Yes, of course.” He takes a step towards you, only to flinch at the sudden hiss from the fluffy snowball resting on your lap.
“I don’t think your cat likes me very much.”
Closing your book, you ease the big feline off you and Jaehyun quickly moves out of the way to avoid a scratching from the disgruntled animal that had just lost its resting place.
“He’s like that to all the guests, you’re not that special.”
“Oh, that hurt more than I thought it would.”
“But you’re special to me, Jaehyun!” you blurt out, “I’ve really enjoyed talking and spending time with you.”
Not knowing how to carry on, you choose to bury your face into another book and he then asks if you have any recommendations on reads, a question that you already have prepared for as you get up from your chair and return with a stack of leather-bound spines in your hands.
“Pull up a chair if you’d like,” you tell him once you place them down and reach for the third one in the stack, “And tell me what you think of this one.”
The more time you spend with Jaehyun, the more you find yourself enjoying his company, dreading the day when he would have to return to his own kingdom. Not only did he share a liking for literature, he was also open to join you in doing things a princess would normally never be allowed to do. Sneaking into the kitchens for untimely snacks and bringing you out to see what lay beyond the confines of your castle were noble adventures in their own right; those were only inklings of the budding feelings of fondness that you had begun to develop for the neighboring prince. Kind, sweet, knowledgeable, cute… Jaehyun was truly quite like no other prince you’ve met prior and it pained you to have to accept the fact that you likely won’t be able to see him again once it was time for him to go. After what felt like some very short two weeks of stay, your parents had already started to make plans for a farewell dinner, brother on a hunt to find the perfect gift to give to Jaehyun before then.
You were the only one who had not contributed to the preparations at all.
“More water, Your Highness?”
You mumble something incoherent and the servant pauses, holding still her tongue to not say anything that may trigger a fit.
“I will be out in the garden,” you speak up, pushing aside the tray of cakes. “Send these down and you may go until I call for you.”
Once the servant leaves your room, you pack up a few books lying around and make your way to the gardens, the secret gazebo looking lonelier than usual as you place your books down and stare out at the vast pasture of green grass. The two tethered horses out of their enclosures while a stable boy worked at cleaning out the stables, you feel especially small today on the expansive land that belonged to your family. Letting out a heavy sigh and casting your attention away from the books, you instead take off your shoes and walk barefoot out to the grass, enjoying the tickling sensation of grass underneath your toes. Your mother—the Queen—would lose her mind at such a sight, but in this moment, you wanted to forget you were a princess with an image to uphold. Right now, you wanted to forget you were a princess who had the weight of an entire kingdom on her shoulders and most importantly, a princess who had somehow fallen in love with a prince who was going to leave before long and never come back.
A light breeze picks up in your dance across the field, bringing a light kick to your steps as you make a twirl before flopping down entirely, face eating dirt and dress stained with green and brown. No strength or willpower to move, you relish in the feeling of sinking into becoming one with the garden until you hear a noise of amusement above you.
“There you are.”
Picking up the sound of Jaehyun’s voice, you abruptly pull yourself up and cover your face, hoping he would somehow not see the smudges of dirt across your cheeks.
“Where are your shoes?” he chuckles, helping you stand and offering a handkerchief to wipe your face.
“I can stand,” you mumble, taking the handkerchief and quickly swiping at your dirt-smudged face. “Thank you.”
“My pleasure. And your shoes?”
“Back there. I didn’t want to wear them.”
“I can tell.” A bubble of warm laughter and he offers a hand. “May I?”
You take it and he slides a hand around your waist, smiling while he waltzes you through the grass to the gazebo, stopping just before the cobblestone path. Motioning for you to wait, you watch as he picks up the abandoned slippers by the roses and stifle the aching feeling in your heart at his kindness when you very much wanted him to stay with you a bit longer. He helps you put your shoes on and you refuse to look at him, darting to grab your books and return to the castle before a steady hand stops you in your tracks.
“You’re acting strange today, Princess.”
“No,” you lie, “I’m fine.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“Definitely not.”
Knowing how stubborn you can be, he acknowledges your refusal to elaborate and sighs wistfully at he takes one last glance at the garden.
“I will miss coming here after spending the morning reading at your library.”
And I will miss you.
“But first, I have something to give to you before I leave tonight.”
“Tonight?” you echo, surprise flashing in your widened eyes. “I thought you were leaving the day after.”
“My mother has sent news that one of our western neighbors wishes to enter a marriage alliance with us, hence we are leaving tonight rather than tomorrow. Please tell your parents we are sorry we cannot attend the dinner that was planned for our original departure date.”
“M-Marriage.” Now there was no way to see Jaehyun again when he was returning home to get married. “A marriage alliance… you say.”
He studies you with renowned interest. “Are you angry that I’m leaving without prior notice?”
“Of course not,” you huff, adamant in refusing to admit that you were in fact upset at the turn of events. “It is appropriate that you would need to leave earlier when your kingdom’s political situation is in question.”
“I was thinking you may be upset at the fact that I might be getting married after this.”
“You have such a way with knowing exactly what I think, Prince Jaehyun.”
The sarcasm not as subtle as you’d like, he smiles and a package wrapped in silver paper makes it into his hands.
“For you, my dear princess.”
“I refuse to accept this if it’s intended as a farewell gift.”
“It is a token of my feelings.” Placing the package down, he waits for you to take it but you refuse to even look his way. If this is to be your final goodbye, then you’d rather let him leave without any lingering thoughts. “Can you accompany me in one last walk around the gardens before I go?”
“N-No,” you whisper, voice slightly trembling as you fight back the tears that threaten to spill from your already watering eyes. “I… I wish to be alone.”
“…Then I suppose this is goodbye, Princess Y/N.”
The gust that picks up in the air once Jaehyun takes his leave is chilly and nips at your neck harshly, so different from the warm light breeze that had tickled your entire being earlier. Just as circumstances had brought Jaehyun to you and made him a special and memorable part of your life as princess, the wind had already blown him away before you could gather the courage to tell him how you truly feel, a bitter and harsh reality spinning into a vortex of regret in your aching heart.
“How did I get so attached to him when we were just acquaintances who met in the library two weeks prior?”
You linger behind your brother as the servants load up the prince and his father’s bags onto their carriage, horses pawing at the ground as their masters give their last words to your parents for their hospitality thus far.
“Our stay was most enjoyable,” Jaehyun’s father says to your own. “I hope it wasn’t too bothersome having us as guests.”
“It was our pleasure.”
“Do you want me to relay a message before your prince leaves?” your brother asks you.
“Doyoung, he isn’t mine,” you hiss, embarrassed as Jaehyun exchanges goodbyes with your father as well. “And… I already said my goodbye when we met earlier.”
“If you say so.”
You clutch onto Doyoung’s sleeve, stomach sinking at the thought of Jaehyun getting married. No longer will you be able to see him or even visit him in his homeland when he would already be part of a marriage alliance with a neighboring princess. His gift still sat on your desk untouched, remaining that way after one of the stable boys had brought it into the castle when he was tending to the roses. Waiting to be opened, it was the last thing on your mind when you had your own emotions to sort out and cope with.
“Last chance,” Doyoung says once Jaehyun gets into the horse-drawn carriage. “Who knows when we will see them again.”
Your fingers grip onto Doyoung’s arm even harder and he endures the pain with a tightened smile. The carriage departs, wheels turning round-and-around as the prince and his father returns to their own kingdom while leaving yours.
Goodbye, my dear prince.
“My dear sister, will you be joining us for supper or not?”
You ignore the knocking on your door and hear a faint mumble before the footsteps outside fade. Poking your head out of your covers, you reach for the stack of books balanced neatly on your chair and mutter a string of obscenities at missing the volume you wanted.
“Claude, get away from there.”
Your stern tone fails to get your cat to move and you shoo him away as you get up, bending down to pick up the fallen book when you spot the parcel from Jaehyun sitting atop your desk, still untouched after he left almost two months ago. You’ve had half a thought to toss it out (out of sight, out of mind), but a voice in your head would stop you from doing so each time you attempted to throw it into the trash. It yelled at you that you would regret it if you threw away his gift, one last memory of the times spent together before he had to return to his homeland early due to talk of marriage.
Placing the book back on its original stack, you grab the parcel and begin to untie the ribbon tied on top, tossing the strip of fabric aside after peeling back the silver wrapping paper.
“What… are these bookmarks?” You hold up six pieces of paper, or slips that are rather thick in texture with pressed flowers on one side while blank on the other, a small hole at the top marking the spot for colorful ribbons to contrast each flower’s primary colors.
“These are beautiful…”
You quickly replace your old bookmarks with the new ones and your heart skips a beat at seeing the splash of colored ribbon along the top of the closed book.
Two knocks sound on your bedroom door along with a question. “Your Highness?”
You allow entry and a servant enters with a tray of what looks to be tea and a few muffins from the kitchens.
“His Highness sent up something for you to eat since you hadn’t come down for supper.”
“That brother of mine must be trying to poison me.” You take the offered cup of hot tea and the warm taste of chamomile trickles down your throat.
“Or not.”
The servant bows as she takes the cue to leave and you pick up the muffin, biting into the crumbly dessert to a pleasant surprise of chocolate filling. At least your grumpy brother had the decency to have the cooks whip up something you liked eating.
Dessert and tea finished in about fifteen minutes, you return to bed with a book selected from the awaiting stack, intending to read a chapter or two before turning in for the night. The pressed flower bookmark winking up at you from the side brings a smile to your lips as you recall the times you spent in the library discussing books with Jaehyun during his stay. You wonder how much time he had spent making such intricate bookmarks, and that’s when you hear the soft thud against your window.
“Strange, I don’t see anyone there.”
You turn away only to hear the thud on the window again, irritation racing through your veins as you force the window open and shiver in the cold of the night. Looking down, you spot a figure lurking by the grounds, but it is too dark to identify the intruder.
“Coward! Announce your presence rather than sneakily try to talk to me by throwing rocks at my window!”
Mood ruined, you blow out the flickering flame of your candle to go to sleep instead of reading as you would’ve liked to.
“Your Highness?”
The knocking on your door amplifies in volume and you let out a groan. Allowed entry, the entering servant looking frightened out of her wits as she mumbles something about getting you dressed for an audience.
“It is too early!” you snap. “Come back in two hours!”
“I… I have to make sure you’re ready, Your Highness. His Majesty’s orders.”
Keeping your temper in check, you grit your teeth and get up to be dressed, your mood sour once you enter the Royal Throne Room to meet with your so-called “audience”.
“There’s our beautiful princess,” your father laughs heartily from his throne. “Good morning.”
“I would’ve liked to at least be able to enjoy breakfast beforehand,” you begin, taking a seat next to your brother. “But I suppose there are some privileges a princess simply cannot have when it comes to a morning meeting in the Royal Court.”
Doyoung snorts at your predicament and you cross your legs, displeased at being woken up so early.
“There is a guest here who would like to seek your hand in marriage,” your father begins. “I believe—”
You interrupt before he can even finish.
“I refuse.”
“Oh? Perhaps there is already someone you fancy?”
“I… That is correct.” Your fingers rub at the length of ribbon tied around your wrist, the same ribbon from one of Jaehyun’s pressed bookmarks that you had untied to wear along with your dress since materials of leisurely literature such as your novels were forbidden in your father’s court. Even if you were to marry, there was no way you would let someone tell you whom you may take as your husband, especially when you’d already lost the opportunity to tell a certain prince how you had felt about him. “I refuse to marry someone other than the man I’ve already set my heart on.”
“Rethink your words carefully,” your brother hisses. “You may be the crown jewel in the family but you do not have the final say when it comes to marriage!”
“I’m sorry, Father,” you finish crisply. “But I will not be marrying another person besides J—”
“Then perhaps you will change your mind once you see who has come to seek your hand.”
The King gestures to the herald, who bows before running off to bring in the suitor who had arrived at the castle. Annoyed, you shove your plate away, all appetite lost until the herald returns and announces the name of the guest who had arrived to seek your hand in marriage.
“Prince Jaehyun has arrived, Your Majesty.”
“Princess, you’re walking rather too quickly for me to catch up.”
You spin around, fuming as you glare at Jaehyun. He had been the last person you’d expected to show up and ask for your hand in marriage, a slew of obscenities muttered under your breath the moment you stormed out without even bothering to excuse yourself from the table.
“Princess?”
“Then don’t follow me.”
He laughs and runs a hand through his hair. “I thought you would be happy to see me again.”
“You… You can’t just show up asking for my hand when… when…”
Flustered and at a loss for words, you continue stomping down the main path of the gardens, eventually stopping when you see the stone bench by a patch of purple hydrangeas, taking a seat and turning away when the prince takes a seat as well.
“Go away.”
“I will not go away until you agree to become my bride.”
You scowl, turning to him with a jab at his chest. “How can you say that when you never hinted that you felt something more for me than just mere friendship?”
“But I already confessed to you through my gift.”
You frown and he elaborates. “Did you read the backside of the bookmarks?”
“They were blank,” you grumble. “Pretty, but blank.”
“Six of them, yes. The seventh, no.”
“What?”
You make sure Jaehyun remains outside when you run back to your bedroom to grab his bookmarks, wheezing at the strain from running through the gardens all the way to the West Wing.
“This…”
His confession, elaborate and beautifully written in black ink across the edges of a seventh bookmark stuck to the sixth, meets your eyes for the first time since receiving the gift and you blush profusely at the amount of cheesiness and analogies comparing you to this and that inscribed on the entire backside of the bookmark.
“Jaehyun,” you start, closing the door behind you once you exit your living quarters. “This is extremely disgusting yet sweet at the same time.”
“So do you…” He fidgets with his fingers before looking up at you hopefully. “Do you accept my feelings for you? I wanted an answer the moment I arrived but you didn’t respond to me at all.”
“When did you arrive?”
“Late last night.”
You put two and two together and snap your fingers.
“You were the coward throwing things at my window last night?”
“Yes. You didn’t see me the first time, so I had to try a second time.” Another laugh and this time you can see his dimples in the smile. “But then you yelled at me and I gave up after that.”
“Jaehyun!”
He gestures at the ribbon around your wrist. “May I?”
You nod and he unties the strip of fabric from your hand, stooping down to one knee.
“Will you allow me to tie this ribbon on your ring finger as an agreement to my proposal for your hand in marriage, Princess Y/N?”
“Most suitors usually have something more extravagant to offer than just a simple ribbon, my dear prince.”
“I made you bookmarks of pressed flowers for your reading and even wrote a detailed confession, is that not enough?”
You giggle and shake your head before extending your hand towards him.
“No, but perhaps I will take your ribbon for now until I receive the actual ring during our wedding day.”
Smiling widely, the prince gently ties the colorful ribbon onto your ring finger, pulling you into his arms for a quick kiss. Sunny skies and warm spring air, the lightest breeze swirls around the two of you in an almost celebratory manner to congratulate you for finally speaking true to your heart, Jaehyun’s lips tasting of a faint jasmine as you kiss him in return.

I need a new re.UP

a possible addition to your sexy song considerations? the couple would be up to you but lit the sexiest song I've ever heard is Two Weeks by FKA Twigs. You might recognize it from Mr. Robot if you've seen that.
i’ve heard of FKA Twigs but not actually listened to her very much before, so thank you for this omg because it’s a really great song!! (im yet to watch Mr Robot BUT it’s on my list!! it’s on my list and i should hopefully get around to it soon!)
i feel like it’s a very… i want to say Speirs? i feel like it’s a Speirs-y sexy song, but i can’t put my finger on why. it’s brilliant though, and definitely belongs on the list!! its reminded me of a couple of other sexy songs that i missed off too actually, so (hope you don’t mind me hijacking the ask like this ahah), here are those too!!
re.up - rationale
ocean drive - duke dumont
left hand free - alt-J (tbh most of the Tab mix)
