Heat
Synopsis: Qatar seems worse than ever this year, and it’s especially not kind to F1’s female driver. The grid does what they can to help.
young female driver reader x 2023 F1 grid
A/N: For this one, reader will be 21, and have driven for aston martin since the beginning of 2021 with lance
You’ve driven in about 60 races in your 3 year F1 career so far, yet you’ve never raced in conditions like this before, and you hope you never will again.
Preparing for Qatar the weeks leading up for it, you could laugh at it now because no amount of simulator training or exercising could’ve readied you for the heat in Lusail.
You felt it as soon as you walked out of the airport; the gust of hot air that hit you in the face, the harsh evening sun beating down on you.
“Oh my god” You said to your teammate, pulling a pair of sunglasses out of your pocket. “I know,” Lance says, copying your actions. “This sprint is gonna suck” You groan. “I can’t wait”
The two of you immediately got into the cars waiting for you in the parking lot, and drove to the hotel you’d be hiding in until Thursday.
Media day was bad enough, having to spend hours doing interviews and sitting in to press conferences while trying to get any cool air near you.
“Is Qatar like this every year?” Oscar asked you while sitting alongside Charles, George, and Pierre in a conference.
“It’s been hot the last few years, but nothing like this, no” You answer honestly. “It was nowhere near this hot last year” George adds as the other two drivers nod.
You get through the rest of the day with a lot of water and the many surprisingly useful paper fans you and Lando made as a joke. Friday is dedicated to FP1 and Qualifying, and you end the practice in P11, qualifying P7.
The temperature was bearable that day, but you still left your car red-faced and sweaty afterwards. You talked with a few engineers and strategists before leaving to collect your things and go back to your hotel in hopes of getting some rest before the sprint the next day.
You walk into the paddock Saturday afternoon prepared to endure whatever the shootout and sprint was going to bring to you. You went P9 in the shootout after a stressful amount of track limit warnings, and spend the time before the sprint relaxing in your drivers room. You finished Saturday’s race P8 after defending against Pierre and Valtteri , and trying to overtake Alex in front of you.
You exited your car feeling as tired as you would after a normal race, and tried to show as much happiness as you could for both Max and Oscar after their race finishes.
After using your post-race interview to congratulate the two, you went back to your garage to finish the first race debrief of the weekend, and was sent back to your hotel with instructions to get more hydration and rest.
You thought you felt the worst of the heat earlier in the weekend, but you were proved wrong as you neared the Aston Martin garage Sunday evening.
Nobody could find decent shelter from the Qatari sun, and you were almost sweating by the time you were getting into your car.
You’d done as much possible as you could to prepare for this race, and now it was time to see if it was all worth it or not.
“Good luck, stay safe” Lance said, leaning over your car.
“Good luck, you too” You flip your visor down as your teammate gets into his car, and you’re given the signal to enter the pit lane.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” David Croft begins to commentate. “it is a scorching night out here in Qatar, our drivers have just finished their formation lap, we’re seconds away from driving into the night for 57 laps, it’s light’s out and away we go!”
You pull away from Esteban early and get close to Pierre, taking P6 by Lap 15, and are able to get out his DRS zone afterwards. Statistically, this was good, but physically, you were not feeling well inside your cockpit.
By the halfway mark, there was sweat running down your face, your throat was dry, and your entire body felt like it was overheating trapped inside the small space.
You tried flipping up your visor and adjusting your gloves to get some more airflow, but both methods proved ineffective, leaving you with no fresh air.
By the time you were nearing the end of the race, every turn made your head spin, every straight blew more hot air into your cockpit, and the constant effort of defending against the two Alpine’s behind you was draining your energy.
Your vision was starting to go in and out as you finished your last laps, and you crossed the checkered flag with a sigh of relief, not even caring Pierre overtook you and left you in P7.
It took everything inside you not to black out during the cool down lap, and you could barely manage to maneuver the car into perc ferme.
Drivers were sitting up and getting out of their cars all around you, but you couldn’t find any energy to leave yours. You sat in your car, head leaning against the steering wheel, breathing heavy, as other drivers started to notice.
“Y/n? Are you okay?” Pierre kneels by your car, labored breathing and accent thicker than usual. You shake your head, the small movement making your head pound, and groan.
“Y/n, c’mon, I will help, give me your steering wheel” The driver persists, holding out his hand.
You oblige, as Pierre shouts towards the cars in the front. “Charlie! Venez ici! (come here)
As Charles makes his way from his Ferrari to your car, you begin to sit up and wrap your hands around the halo to pull yourself into a standing position. You move to sit on top of your car after your vision gets dizzy and you start to lose balance.
“What’s wrong? Are you two okay?” The Monagasque asks before you shake your head once again.
“I’m fine, I don’t think she is. Here, put one of her arms around your shoulders” Pierre instructs as he reaches out to help you step off the car.
Despite themselves finishing the same grueling race, the two men move you to sit on the ground before doing the same.
George notices, and comes over with four bottles of water to join you three sitting against the Aston Martin car. The four of you pull off your helmets and balaclavas to chug the water George brought, too tired to move anywhere else.
You’re still dizzy, your hands are shaking, and your body is still overheated, but you’re done with the race and you have water, and those things seem to be the only ones that matter.
“You guys okay?” George asks from beside Charles.
“No”
Charles and Pierre shake theirs heads. “Me either, but shouldn’t we, like, go get weighed and stuff?”
You wave a hand dismissively and take another sip of water. The British man nods again. “Yeah, you’re right”
After a few more minutes of sitting on the ground against your car and listening to all the action around you, the four of you stand up to complete the post race procedures and go to the media pen.
“Y/n, how was your race? Are you happy with P7?” The journalist asks you, pointing the microphone towards you.
“Yeah, I’m happy with it. The race was really tough though, I was really struggling towards the end to finish the race and bring the car in”
“A lot of people think Qatar should be moved in the schedule, or taken off completely. What do you think about that?”
“I think it should definitely be moved to either earlier or later in the year. I know I wasn’t the only driver struggling out here, and it’s not safe that we race like this” You reply honestly.
“I agree, Y/n. Good race today, get some rest” The woman smiles at you, and you’re glad to be able to head back to your garage.
After about thirty minutes, Lance joins you and the rest of the engineers in the debrief room, and takes a seat next to you.
“Holy shit” He says.
“Yeah”
“Never again” You agree.
something short and sweet for the all the pain qatar brought earlier this year

call it what you want / charles leclerc
Tumblr media Tumblr media
masterlist
day 13: necklace (one-word november prompts!)
pairing: charles leclerc x reader
word count: 1.8k
summary: after a awful night at qatar gp 2021, you were looking for a way out and charles was right there. how did your relationship evolve when you didn't want anything to do with anyone, but he was, well, him?
t you're constantly attracting eachother?
warnings: abusive behaviour. max being an asshole but only for the fic (I don't believe he is actually like that, I just needed someone to play the villain)
author's note: I know that it's late but i really liked how this turned out 🥹 hope you like it too!
inspired by:
I recall late November, holdin' my breath
sunday, november 21, 2021.
after coming second place, you knew max would be furious. he was still in the lead of the 2021 world championship, but with lewis just a few points behind him, the pressure was too high. you saw his faked smile on the podium, and even though your cheers for your boyfriend were genuine, the smile on your lips didn't quite reach your eyes.
max wasn't aggressive, but sometimes, when he was really mad about something that happened on the track, he would raise his voice a bit too high for your liking, and close the doors a bit too hard for you to avoid flinching. and that's what happened when the dutchman entered his driver's room after he had finished all his duties.
"what are you doing here?" he said, after closing the door a bit too hard. you winced at the venom that distilled from his voice. you quickly began to apologize, even though there was no real reason for you to do. "I'm sorry, I thought you might need-"
"I don't need anything from you. leave." he said, not giving you a second look. "what?"
"i said leave!"
too stunned to actually talk back at him for taking his anger out on you, you simply stood up and left, careful not to make too big of a fuss and trying to go unnoticed. when you got out the door of the hospitality, walking as fast as you could, you accidentally bumped into someone.
Slowly I said, "You don't need to save me
But would you run away with me?"
Yes (would you run away?)
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"
"y/n, right?" you nodded, still looking at your feet to avoid looking straight into the man's eyes. "are you okay?". you mumbled a quick "i need to go" before yanking your wrist out of his touch. still, he went after you. "I know you maybe don't know me, but please" he ran a little, just enough to put his body in front of you again, impending your way. "how can i help you?".
with how freaked out you were about the whole situation that had occurred in the last 5 minutes, you hadn't realised that the man that was in front of you was charles leclerc.
you didn't actually know him personally, just by the little gentle nods when you were accompanying your boyfriend to the races. still, he had always been friendly towards you, but that didn't mean you two were close. but he was your only way out of there, and there wasn't anything you wanted more than to get away from max, as quickly as possible, in whatever way you could.
"can you get me out of here?"
Starry eyes sparkin' up my darkest night
he nodded enthusiastically, looking intentionally at your eyes. it was like he was seeing right through you, like he knew about everything that went downhill inside the building behind you. and with that sympathetic look that could light up the whole night, he grabbed your hand and you two made your way out of the track, thankfully avoiding prying eyes.
All my flowers grew back as thorns
Windows boarded up after the storm
He built a fire just to keep me warm
the first few days where hard.
you didn't know charles that well, and he understood why you didn't feel comfortable talking about what happened that sunday night. after all, max was his friend first, and you thought that he wouldn't believe whatever you had to tell him if that meant going behind his friend's back.
but he proved you wrong.
day after day he called you, visited the place where you were staying, making sure you were okay, that you had everything you would need without actually having to leave, avoiding running into your now ex boyfriend. charles was doing everything in his power to help you through this time, but still giving you the space you desperately needed, wanting to get away from the racing world.
thankfully, max hadn't called you after everything that happened. it seemed like he understood the message quite clearly after you went back to your shared place and took everything with you.
All the drama queens taking swings
All the jokers dressin' up as kings
They fade to nothing when I look at him
monday, december 13, 2022.
the speculations about your breakup had started quickly due to your disappearance when the next weekend rolled around. it was weird, especially after being by max's side through the whole season. and even though the dutchman didn't actually confirm or deny the breakup rumors, when he won the 2021 world driver championship and had another girl cheering for him, it became quite clear that you two were over.
charles and you had grown closer since that night in qatar, and after abu dhabi, he flew as quickly as he could back to monaco. not only because he desperately wanted the season to be over after finishing seventh in the standings, but because he wanted to see you as soon as possible, to assure that you were doing okay after max's little show the day before.
"what are you doing here?" you were a little surprised to see charles back at your place, in monaco, after watching him on tv a few hours before, racing on the other side of the world. "wanted it all to end as soon as possible. took the first flight back home" he hugged you and rubbed your back while doing so. you moved aside, so he could step into your apartment.
"i know you saw the little stunt he pulled yesterday" he mumbled, seated in your couch with his arms resting on his knees, looking at the floor. he never referred to max by his name when he was talking about him with you, not that it happened often. being a harry potter die-hard fan, he preferred to call him by voldemort's nickname in the series, he who must not be named. it was a silly thing to do, but it always made you smile. you sat next to him and put your palm on his knee, reassuringly. "i'm just glad you got tenth place" you smiled, and now he turned his head, connecting his blue eyes with yours. "i'm sure you'll do better next season".
And I know I make the same mistakes every time
Bridges burn, I never learn, at least I did one thing right
monday, february 14, 2022.
"can we go out tonight?" charles looked at you with pleading eyes, while laying on your stomach. "you're sure?" you said, clear doubt in your voice. being valentine's day, you knew that if anyone saw you, they would put two and two together and figure that between charles and you there was something bigger than a friendship.
not that you really cared about what anyone would say, but it would be like throwing a match to a gasoline tank, inevitably exploding, and you were afraid that it would break you two apart. charles would be called a bad friend, a traitor, like anyone apart from you three knew what truly happened between you. and you would be called every name on the book. so you wanted to avoid going public for however long you could, keep your situationship in the dark.
"yes, are you?"
after everything that happened with your ex, you had almost promised to yourself that you wouldn't date another driver on the grid. and it wasn't intentional, but how could you not fall for charles when he was an angel sent from heaven?
My baby's fit like a daydream
Walking with his head down
I'm the one he's walking to
saturday, march 20, 2022.
going against your friend's advice, you decided to join charles on the first race weekend of the season. it was your first race back since everything went downhill in qatar, so you were nervous about running into max or any redbull's employees, knowing that your presence would eventually be disclosed to the dutchman. so, you remained at all times on charles' trailer, where usually no one came close, and no one apart from his pr manager and carlos knew about you turning up to bahrain.
not even charles, as you didn't want to distract him from qualifying.
only after getting pole, for the first time of the season, carlos was the one responsible to tell his monegasque friend that you were actually there. he almost was as quickly as his car when running through the paddock, trying to get to you as quickly as possible. once he made it through the door, closing it fast to avoid any spying eyes, he reached for you, already standing on the middle of the room, prepared to congratulate him on his achievement. "I knew you could do it, love!"
"everything for you".
I want to wear his initial
On a chain round my neck, chain round my neck
Not because he owns me
But 'cause he really knows me
thursday, august 12, 2022.
even though you were acting like a couple for a bit now, and everyone that knew you thought that you were, in fact, together, you two weren't official yet. not because you didn't want to, but you wanted to avoid moving too fast, and charles understood your decision. you were seen at the track a couple of times now since the season started, always by the monegasque side, but walking behind him, careful to keep your distance.
but now, since the summer break had started, you had spent every waking moment together in your apartment, almost attached to the hip. considering that he would be going with his family on a trip soon, you didn't want to lose any moment you two could enjoy, not wanting to miss him later, even though it would be inevitable.
"why don't you come with me then, ma belle?" charles said, while packing the things he kept at your house on a suitcase. you laughed a bit, thinking that he was joking. when you saw his serious face, you got up from the couch and went to hug him from behind. "maybe another time, love. now you have to rest, spend some time with your loved ones".
"then you should be there too" charles turned his head a bit so he could kiss your temple. he whispered in your ear "wait, i have something I've been waiting to give you."
you weren't good with surprises, so you stood up quickly after charles had gone to grab whatever he had on his jacket. pouting, you said "what is it, charles?"
"don't be inpatient and close your eyes for me, love" he called with a tone full of mischief. you laughed a bit and put your hands covering your eyes, to avoid the urge to spy. "put your hands out" charles commanded and you obliged, extending your palms face up towards where you assumed he was standing.
he deposited a small box that, once he told you it was okay to open your eyes, you could see that was white. opening it you saw a beautiful necklace with a little c letter on it, small but still visible enough. "i know this could be too soon for you, but i need to do this. you can call it what you want, but please, will you be officially mine?"
smiling, you answered softly. "nothing i would want more, charles".

Chancellor Olaf Scholz wants Nigeria to increase LNG supplies to Germany and is demanding that Nigerian refugees be accepted back swiftly. Scholz, who held talks on Sunday and Monday in Nigeria's capital Abuja and subsequently in its commercial capital Lagos, is thus continuing his efforts to increase LNG imports from African countries to replace Russian gas [...] The German government had repeatedly urged African countries to abandon fossil fuel extraction. While increasing deportation of Nigerians, Berlin – according to Scholz – is trying to lure more “talents” from the country to work for German companies –a contribution to the brain drain depriving developing countries of urgently needed and expensively trained skilled labor. In Nigeria, Scholz also held talks on the developments in Niger. Last summer, with Nigeria's help, the EU sought to overthrow the military government in Niger that previously had ousted a pro-Western president and is seeking to lead the country to genuine independence from the former colonial powers.
This is Chancellor Olaf Scholz's third trip to Africa and his second to West Africa. In May 2022, Scholz had traveled to Senegal and then on to Niger; where he visited the German troops deployed in that country, before going on to meet with pro-Western President Mohamed Bazoum. Bazoum has since been overthrown by putschists, who can rely on a widespread popular rejection of French dominance in West Africa.[1] This rejection is also growing in Senegal.[2] The two countries Scholz is visiting this time – Nigeria and Ghana – are, like Senegal and Niger, members of the West African regional organization ECOWAS, but they are not former French colonies. Their foreign relations are therefore less affected by the current anti-colonial wave in West Africa’s Francophonie. Moreover, both countries have been Germany’s long-standing cooperation partners of, albeit at a relatively modest level[...]
With his visit in Nigeria on Sunday and Monday, Scholz was seeking to expand bilateral economic relations with a focus on energy resources. German oil imports from Nigeria currently account for around half of the total trade volume. Now the German government also wants to import gas from the country – just as it did from Senegal, where Chancellor Scholz had also negotiated gas supplies in May 2022.[3] This had already raised some eyebrows at the time. Berlin had long been prominent in making the demand that the African continent should abandon its use of fossil fuels. However, subsequent to its decision to halt Russian oil and gas imports, it began to promote tapping new deposits in Africa, for example in Senegal, and is now seeking supplies from the new sources. [...] In 2021, with 14 percent of the EU’s imports, Nigeria was the EU's fourth largest supplier after the USA, Qatar and Russia, with most of it sold to Spain and Portugal.[4] Just before his trip, Scholz had already stated in an interview with the Nigerian newspaper Punch [linked here] that German corporations were also interested in LNG supplies from Nigeria.[5]
To accelerate the repatriation of Nigerians from Germany was Scholz’s second important objective on his visit to Nigeria. Nigerians are rarely granted asylum in Germany. Between January and September of this year, of the 1,850 persons who applied for asylum in Germany only 118 have been granted a reliable right to remain.[6] However, it is currently not easy for Berlin to deport Nigerians, whose bid for asylum has been rejected. The Nigerian authorities only allow those into the country, who have valid original documents. Substitute papers, provided by German authorities to those Nigerians, who have lost their passports, are not recognized in Abuja. That has resulted in around 14,000 Nigerians living in Germany, who, in principle are obliged to leave the country. This year only 262 have actually been deported. Scholz was insisting that Abuja make their repatriation easier. Only “talents from Nigeria,” needed in the labor market, should be allowed to come, says the chancellor.[7] This is Berlin’s admission to lure well, and expensively-trained personnel – the so-called brain drain that inflicts serious damage to developing countries and is regularly criticized by experts.
Scholz used his stay in Nigeria to also discuss the situation in Nigeria’s northern neighbor, Niger. Following the putsch in that country, Nigeria had been one of those countries, that had been particularly advocating for a military intervention in Niger, to restore the overthrown President Bazoum to power. For that purpose, several of the ECOWAS countries, besides Nigeria, for example both Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire wanted to provide the necessary troops. In addition, there was also the prospect of French military assistance. (german-foreign-policy.com reported.[8]) Ultimately the plan was abandoned – also due to the strong resistance from Northern Nigeria, which would have borne the brunt of the extensive damage in the case of a war with the neighboring country. Meanwhile, French troops have begun their withdrawal from Niger. Backing down from the threat of an intervention, supported by Paris and the EU, has cost ECOWAS credibility and weakened its position in West Africa, where it was already widely considered a French and Western lackey. In Abuja, Scholz met with ECOWAS Commission President, Omar Touray, exchanged views on the situation in Niger and praised ECOWAS – in a very odd choice of words – as “a powerful and functioning [!] organization.”[9]
Berlin’s attempt to expand cooperation with Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu is not free of risks. Tinubu came to power in late May – following a quite contested election, winning with around 37 percent of the votes, ahead of two strong opponents (Atiku Abubakar with 29 percent, and Peter Obi, 25 percent). Both opponents alleged the presidential election had been marred by irregularities and challenged the results, but lost their bid a few days ago before the country’s highest court.[10] However, Tinabu is still far from out of the woods. From the beginning of his administration, he imposed stringent austerity measures, such as halting the subventions on gasoline, meaning that many ordinary car owners no longer could afford to drive their cars, and with daily living costs skyrocketing. Whereas Tinubu is praised for his cuts in the West, Germany included – the government owned Germany Trade and Invest (gtai) foreign business agency speaks of “important reforms,”[11] – inside that country, there is great resentment. The number of Nigerians, forced to live on less than US $1/day, could grow from a current 83 million to 120 million and in the worst-case, to as many as 140 to 150 million in a population of 220 million, according to experts.[12] There are already warnings of possible unrest. The supporters of the defeated presidential candidate Obi, who feels cheated out of the victory, are are primarily young, rebellious Nigerians.

It’s genuinely so funny to me seeing people who aren’t Checo fans getting all upset about the dr content and the Max championship content??
Like my dude firstly you are only doing it cause you like to use Checo to shit on Max and Red Bull. Secondly Red Bull did the exact same shit in Singapore 2022 and Monaco 2022 with posting constantly only Checo? For Monaco 2023 build up they didn’t post anything about Max winning there in 2021 only Checo in 2022.
The dr content was a lot but he’s the PR machine for the team. And Checo didn’t show up for celebrations on Saturday or Sunday in Qatar bar one photo. Max literally won two championship in a row by himself basically so they are going to support and post him the post. And Checo fans who feel like he’s getting support should realize he only gets support cause people want to shit on Max and Red Bull all the fucking time :)

Max Verstappen wins the championship for the third time 🫠
Tumblr media
Max Verstappen was crowned Formula One world champion for the third time, taking the title in the sprint of the Qatar Grand Prix on Saturday. Verstappen's victory was a moment that seemed inevitable since the first race of the season, when he led the grid of start to finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The 26-year-old, who has won 13 of 16 races so far this season, needed to finish sixth or better in the sprint, a shortened version of the traditional Sunday feature race that was introduced for the first time in the 2021 season, to obtain the title.
When his teammate, the Mexican Sergio Pérez (the only other driver who could challenge Verstappen for the championship), crashed on lap 11 of 19, it meant that he would not score any championship points, practically giving him the qualification.
With Verstappen qualifying third for the 100km race under the lights of the Lusail circuit and Perez five places behind at the start line, it seemed inevitable that Verstappen would successfully defend his title on Saturday.
McLaren's Oscar Piastri, who qualified on pole position, won a thrilling sprint involving three safety cars. His teammate Lando Norris was third, passing Mercedes' George Russell late in the race.
A season dominated from the first race
Hints of a possible fight within Red Bull itself began to emerge early in the season when Sergio Pérez and Verstappen shared two wins each after the first four races, but the Dutchman's record streak of 10 consecutive victories confirmed his absolute authority.
The team sealed its second consecutive constructors' championship at the Japanese Grand Prix last month with six races still remaining.
The team's car has been widely hailed as one of the best ever built in the sport, and in some ways it has proven even more successful than last year's model, which won 17 of 22 races.
When such an impressive car is driven by one of the all-time greats, as Verstappen is now, it is sporting alchemy.
"Everything he has done this year has been phenomenal," team manager Christian Horner told Sky Sports.
“He is the most competitive driver I have ever met. The determination with which he drives, the passion, the heart, the commitment and, of course, the abundance of skill he has, make him among the best." With this title, Verstappen joins the greats Jack Brabham, Jackie Stewart , Niki Lauda, Nelson Piquet and Ayrton Senna as three-time world champions of this sport.
Only five other drivers have won more world titles: Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Juan Manuel Fangio, Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel.

For the record, here is the entirety of what was written:
Foreign Policy’s Nov. 4 morning brief entitled “Qatar’s Tainted World Cup Dreams” epitomizes much of the misguided coverage about Qatar in the lead-up to the 2022 World Cup, which kicked off on Sunday. The newsletter overlooked the hard facts that have been affirmed by our government, third parties, and international organizations alike.
In the years following the bid, Qatar has been heavily scrutinized for its treatment of migrant workers. The often-overlooked reality is that the World Cup has been a catalyst for Qatar to develop a robust labor program. Reforms include the introduction of a nondiscriminatory minimum wage, the removal of barriers to change jobs, and the introduction of a worker compensation fund in 2018 that has paid out at least $350 million so far.
On Nov. 1, 2022, the International Labour Organization (ILO) recognized that Qatar has “undertaken comprehensive labour reforms to improve the conditions of the hundreds of thousands of migrant workers” which have “yielded benefits for workers, employers, and the economy more broadly.” This builds upon their 2021 report that detailed the positive impact of Qatar’s new labor legislation and implementation mechanisms.
These facts, although widely available, are too often ignored because they do not fit the prevailing narrative. A more balanced view would acknowledge that systemic reform does not happen overnight. Shifting the behavior of every company takes time. It would also note that Qatar has achieved in a number of years what many countries take decades to achieve. As in many countries, labor conditions are not perfect in Qatar, and there is still more work to be done. As a country, we are committed to further progress.
The references to claims that “[a]uthorities have also evicted thousands of workers living in Doha—plausibly to make room for tourists—leaving some to sleep on the streets ” is false. When a building no longer meets government regulations, it is no longer safe for people to live in. When this occurs, notifications are issued, and a process to relocate the tenants takes place. This is what has happened in the case highlighted by FP; all the workers in question were relocated to new accommodations, and there are now demolition orders in place at some of the old buildings, according to Qatar’s minister of labor, Ali bin Samikh Al-Marri.
We have never shied away from constructive criticism and have always believed in dialogue and engagement as the best tools to effect change. Qatar is dedicated to ensuring that World Cup 2022 leaves a positive human, economic, social, and environmental legacy for the country, the region, and the world.

FACTS AND STATS: Red Bull end a long wait for success in Bahrain as does Alonso
Max Verstappen blazed to victory under the Bahrain lights in the opening race of the 2023 F1 season, in which Red Bull took a one-two to begin their season in style, and Fernando Alonso turned heads with a brilliant podium finish. The 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix offered up some very interesting facts and stats, as well... The winner of the opening race has been the championship runner-up every season since 2017. Max Verstappen has never previously won the opening race of the season. He won the Bahrain Grand Prix for the first time on his ninth attempt. READ MORE: Verstappen leads 1-2 in Bahrain season opener as Leclerc retires and Alonso takes final podium place in style Red Bull have only previous won the opening race once (Australia 2011), and have never finished one-two in the first race before. Red Bull have not won in Bahrain for 10 years (Sebastian Vettel in the last daylight race here in 2013). Red Bull qualify one-two and finish one-two in a race for the first time since the 2013 Abu Dhabi GP. Max Verstappen won the Bahrain GP on his ninth attempt, and won in Bahrain on his 10th visit in Formula 1 (counting the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix) Fernando Alonso scores Aston Martin's second podium finish in the marque's 50th Grand Prix start. Alonso scores only his second podium finish in his last 122 Grands Prix, and his first since Qatar 2021. Alonso is 41 years, 219 days old today. Only one older driver has been on the podium in the last 37 years (Michael Schumacher was 43 at Valencia 2012). Yesterday was the 22nd anniversary of Alonso's F1 debut (Australia 2001). Sunday was Aston Martin's 50th Grand Prix start – and Alonso took P3 Carlos Sainz took P4, having finished in the same position at the final race of the 2022 season. Lewis Hamilton's fifth place was his worst finish in Bahrain since he was fifth in the 2013 race. Lance Stroll in P6 matches his best result from the 2022 season (sixth in Singapore). Stroll finished in the top six despite not driving the car in pre-season testing. With Russell in seventh, the two Mercedes cars finished 51 and 56 seconds respectively behind the race winner. Eighth-placed Valtteri Bottas scored points in Bahrain for the 10th consecutive time. From 2014 to now, Bottas has scored points in Bahrain Ninth-placed Pierre Gasly of Alpine scores points from last on the grid for the second time in his career (finished 10th in Mexico City, 2018). Williams scored in Bahrain for the first time since 2017, when Felipe Massa was sixth, thanks to Alex Albon's P10. Zhou Guanyu finished 16th but took fastest lap for the second time in his career, having done so in Japan 2022. Lando Norris finished 17th having made six pit stops. Sunday was his second-straight non-scoring Bahrain Grand Prix. via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com

Concacaf has announced that tickets are now on sale for the 2023/24 Concacaf Nations League (CNL) Play-In doubleheader, which will be played on Saturday, March 23, at Toyota Stadium. These matches will determine the two remaining Concacaf nations participating in the CONMEBOL Copa America 2024. These decisive and exciting matches, featuring the region's eight best men's national teams, will all take place in the Dallas Metropolitan Area during the March FIFA Match Window.
The CNL Play-In between the four CNL Quarterfinal losers will take place on Saturday, March 23, at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, TX. The two direct elimination matches, Canada (1) vs Trinidad and Tobago (4) and Costa Rica (2) vs Honduras (3), will determine the last two Concacaf guest national teams qualifying for next summer's CONMEBOL Copa America.
Tickets for the CNL Play-In doubleheader at Toyota Stadium will be made available to the public at Concacaf.com/nationsleaguefinals starting on Friday, January 26 at 10:00 am CT (11:00 am ET). The third edition of the CNLF will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, amongst the four CNL Quarterfinal winners. The tournament's Semifinals, scheduled for Thursday, March 21, will see Panama (1) vs Mexico (4) and United States (2) vs Jamaica (3). The Third-Place match and Final will follow on Sunday, March 24.
To determine the CNLF Semifinal pairings, Concacaf ranked the four participating national teams 1-4 based on the CNL Quarterfinal results (standings available here), with the national team that accumulated the most points facing the national team that accumulated the least points (1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3).
The Semifinal winners will advance to the Final, where the tournament's third champion will be crowned after the United States won the first two editions (2021 in Denver, CO, and 2023 in Las Vegas, NV). The Semifinal losers will dispute the Third Place Match.
Tickets are still available for the CNLF doubleheaders at AT&T Stadium via Concacaf.com/nationsleaguefinals.

F1 Fanzone
Tumblr media
Mexico City boroughs will have a "F1 Fanzone" to watch the 2023 Mexican Grand Prix. The Mexican Grand Prix is getting closer, and Formula 1 enthusiasts are about to experience the excitement of the F1esta at the Hermanos Rodriguez Autodrome in Mexico City. For the 2023 edition, the event will take place on Friday, October 27, Saturday, October 28, and Sunday, October 29. Checo Pérez, the Mexican driver, will aim to surpass his performance from 2021 at the Qatar Grand Prix.
Tumblr media
Due to the surge in interest generated by Sergio Pérez's participation with Red Bull Racing in recent years, it has become increasingly common to see fans of Checo Pérez on the streets of the capital. However, not all of them have had the opportunity to see him race live. But that situation may be about to change. As part of a project led by the organizers of the Mexican Grand Prix, in collaboration with the government of some Mexico City boroughs and GNP, this year, a space will be designated for all F1 fans who do not have a ticket for the 2023 Mexican GP at the racetrack to watch the race live. This space will be called F1 Fanzone GNP Living is Amazing. The 2023 Mexican Grand Prix will be held on October 27, 28, and 29.
Where will the F1 Fanzone for the 2023 Mexican Grand Prix be located?
According to a statement published on the official Mexican GP website, there will be different F1 Fanzones, which will be separate from the facilities of the Hermanos Rodriguez Autodrome; in other words, they will be located in different Mexico City boroughs. Seven boroughs will have this space so that F1 fans and the general public can have a first-hand experience of the F1esta at the Mexican Grand Prix.
The boroughs that will have the special fan zone are as follows:
Álvaro Obregón Benito Juárez Gustavo A. Madero Iztacalco Iztapalapa Miguel Hidalgo Venustiano Carranza There will be simultaneous spaces with live broadcast of the practices, qualifications, and the grand race on Sunday. Additionally, they will have a giant screen, photo opportunities, and other decorative F1 elements for fans to enjoy this major sporting event. The screens will be located in the squares and cultural centers of each borough. Here are the exact locations of the F1 Fanzones by borough. Álvaro Obregón: Canario Street corner with 10th Street, Tolteca Neighborhood, 01150 Benito Juárez: Municipio Libre Street corner with División del Norte, Santa Cruz Atoyac Gustavo A. Madero: 5 de Febrero Street S/N, Villa Gustavo A. Madero, Gustavo A. Madero, 07050 Iztacalco: Río Churubusco Avenue S/N, Gabriel Ramos Millán Neighborhood, 08000 Iztapalapa: Utopía Meyehualco, located in Santa Cruz Meyehualco, Iztapalapa, 09290 Miguel Hidalgo: Parque Lira Avenue 94, Observatorio Neighborhood, 11860 Venustiano Carranza: Francisco del Paso Y Troncoso 219, Jardín Balbuena Neighborhood, 15900 In 2021 and 2022, Checo secured third place in the Mexican Grand Prix.
Schedule and Costs of the F1 Fanzone Mexican GP 2023
Unlike the expensive tickets to have a seat at the racetrack, this fan zone will be completely free since it is aimed at all types of audiences. There will be no cost or price to enter this fan zone. However, the event organizers recommend arriving early to secure a good seat. Because they expect a large number of fans, the earlier you arrive, the better chance you have of getting a good spot. It's also important to consider that it will be an outdoor event. The fan zones in the Mexico City boroughs will open at 9:00 AM and will operate until 6:00 PM; they will be in operation from Friday, October 27, to Sunday, October 29, the race day. [caption id="attachment_1796" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Formula 1 Qatar GP Qualifying 2023 - Time Eliminated - www.skiptvads.blog[/caption] Source F1 Qatar GP 2023 Not a race that many are really excited to watch since the circuit itself doesn't bring that much difficulties for the drivers in terms of the geometry of the circuit, its a very fast circuit mostly because its about seventy percent full throttle on a Formula 1 car, I mention this because this circuit was originally design for Moto GP and not to race Formula 1, it was included if I'm not mistaken on 2021 because of the COVID, during those days there were still certain countries mostly in Asia that could not held a Formula 1 race due to all the COVID restrictions so they included Qatar, didn't have a race on 2022 because of the Futbol World Cup and are now back on 2023, the circuit has a ten year contract to so we will see it on the calendar probably until 2033 if thinks stay smooth, no war, no COVID, no nothing around this part of the world. [caption id="attachment_1788" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Formula 1 Qatar GP Qualifying 2023 - Time Eliminated - www.skiptvads.blog[/caption] Source With a top speed of 344.1 KM/H probably not the fastest but might be on the top ten, with a lot of down force drivers will cut in half this circuit like butter, in my opinion only from turn six to ten drivers will have to down shift one or at most two shifts before they could go pedal to the metal again. I have already mention how easy will be for them to go full throttle but only if the surface was right. The circuit was recently resurface meaning there is no rubber at all and it is surrounded by sand making it very slippery and its also a windy circuit, at any point wind can blow and you have a combination of more sand into the circuit plus if the wind catches a Formula 1 car this could easy make a driver step back out or even loose control, this happen to Carlos Sainz in Barcelona for example when a cross wind push him out, with a slippery circuit drivers will most likely be over stepping out of the track, most drivers try to use as much of the track as possible to maintain that speed but on this circuit a few will be catch steeping out of the track and getting their times eliminated costing them a higher spot on the starting grid for Sunday. [caption id="attachment_1789" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Formula 1 Qatar GP Qualifying 2023 - Time Eliminated - www.skiptvads.blog[/caption] Source This is a very nice info graphic for when the Sprint Race for today Saturday will start, by the F1 account at Twitter.     [caption id="attachment_1790" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Formula 1 Qatar GP Qualifying 2023 - Time Eliminated - www.skiptvads.blog[/caption]   Source This is your grid for Sunday, for this weekend they only had one practice session since we hare having Practice, Quali, Sprint and Race, it was another Verstappen domination to the point that on Q3 he enters the pit after he had to step out of his flying lap, the team had the data under control and he had just put down a 1:23 when the rest of the grid was fighting at the 1:24, keep in mind that this is within track limits.   [caption id="attachment_1791" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Formula 1 Qatar GP Qualifying 2023 - Time Eliminated - www.skiptvads.blog[/caption] Source Like the good old times, seem like a lot has happen since then; its Max Verstappen against the Mercedes, George Russel and Lewis Hamilton but over all even Russel who did made second by staying on track limits has no chance against Max, Hamilton got third because Piastri got his time deleted and Lando was also flying. Verstappen always wants to win thats something within his DNA, there is nothing that can change his mind, there is no take it easy day, there is not less important race, he just goes but in numbers all he has to do is score three points in the Spr
int Race today to be Formula 1 World Champion for the third time in a row, this new down force era look like will be dominated by Red Bull no questions asks, they won the Constructors Championship, now they are going to win with Max plus Checo Perez is second on the Drivers Standings for this year, in terms of race performance this has probably bee no his best year but he still has the points with 223 and Hamilton is close with 190, with only six races to go counting Qatar there is a good chance for this two to battle out the second.   [caption id="attachment_1793" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Formula 1 Qatar GP Qualifying 2023 - Time Eliminated - www.skiptvads.blog[/caption] Source [caption id="attachment_1794" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Formula 1 Qatar GP Qualifying 2023 - Time Eliminated - www.skiptvads.blog[/caption] Source [caption id="attachment_1795" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Formula 1 Qatar GP Qualifying 2023 - Time Eliminated - www.skiptvads.blog[/caption] Source Even for teams that don't usually fight at the top of the grid every race counts, same goes for their drivers, the sport can be as fast as the cars, what I mean is that one day you are racing in a car and the other you are not. When this down force cars era started HASS brought Kevin Magnussen who started very well, against his team mate at the time Mick Schumacher who the team boss Guenther Steiner called "he ruined us..." after his poor performance and all the crashes he had, Kevin look like a great driver but when Nico Hulkenberg joins the team he has surpass Magnussen this year with out qualifying twelve times and a difference of six points between them, 9 to 3 in favor of Hulkenberg, its true that Magnussen gave them their first pole but over all is not holding up this year. Similar story but its a bit unfair with Lance Stroll that even though he is sitting ten on the drivers championship, hey been on the top ten is not easy at all he had wrist problems, he is also against one of the best drivers on the grid Fernando Alonso so its expected for him to be out qualify, I consider him a good driver but he can still be better, they have a car that has been going down in performance against the rest but can fight in the middle of the pack to score some good points, against popular opinion I don't think Stroll is having a bad performance but he needs to step up, many say he will never loose his sit because his dad runs the show at Aston Martin F1 Team but that I doubt if it becomes more obvious or ridiculous how Fernando hi carrying the team by himself on the championship. Liam Lawson has never out qualify Albon and I think he is going out, had a very back crash on Japan that could be avoided besides his over all performance but his luck is very similar to Stroll, not that Albon is one of the best but he has been improving at a gigantic pace, what Albon has done with the Williams in the last two years is amazing and he is starting to get to the point where the car is not enough for him anymore, if Albon had say an Aston Martin I could even be brave to say they could fight for a third place in the Constructors Championship, remember all this drivers are there because they are the best of the best, yes there is more talent waiting on the line but its not their turn, look at what Piastri has done the moment he got a good car. As I mention before Checo is second on the Drivers Championship for this year, I do not pretend he has a chance to fight for the championship but to put up some good punts and stand out f
rom the rest of the grid, say if Max wins by hundred points then Checo wins second place for fifty points just an example but there is something inside him that doesn't let him perform at his best, this time he got knock out of Q2 because of track limits an F1 Drivers disease that is spreading affecting many drivers including the McLaren drivers, on the second picture Lando Norris with all four wheels out of the track who latter on had a hard time with himself because he at least knows and publicly recognize its not the car its him for some reasons either taking unnecessary risks or need to put more work into it while on the other hand Checo's fans and even himself keep saying that he does not has the same car as Max at least since Miami GP this year, to be honest we wont ever know that and for anyone with enough time watching the sport should know that it is the way it is, the long time excuse that my partner car is different or better. I'm going to watch the sprint and race, I will be ruling for safety cars, drivers out of the track, times delete because I dont think there will be too much fight between drivers so we need something else to make this not boring.     Here a great video comparing Max Verstappen vs George Russell racing line and how he dominate the pack Source #formula1 #sports #f1 #hive #ecency #waves #redbullracing #qatargp2023 #f1gp #timedeleted #hamilton #russell #mercedes

Legend Pelé to Spend Christmas in Hospital as Cancer Worsens
Pele, 82, has received regular medical treatment since a tumor was removed from his colon in September last year
— The Telegraph | 22 December 2022
Pele's cancer has progressed, the doctors treating the Brazil great has said. His daughter revealed the family will now spend Christmas in hospital with the 82-year-old.
Pele - who had a tumour removed from his colon in September 2021 - was admitted to the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in Sao Paulo on November 29. He has received regular medical treatment since the tumor was removed.
A statement from the facility on Wednesday said: "Edson Arantes do Nascimento presents progression of the oncological disease and requires further care related to renal and cardiac dysfunctions.

"The patient remains hospitalised in a common room, under the necessary care of the medical team."
His daughter Kely Nascimento wrote on Instagram: "Our Christmas at home has been suspended. We decided with the doctors that, for various reasons, it would be better for us to stay here with all the care that this new family at Einstein gives us!
"We are going to turn this room into a Sambodromo (just kidding), we will even make caipirinhas (not kidding!!)."
She added the family would provide an update on his health next week.
Following Argentina's win in Sunday's World Cup final, Pele, widely considered one of the greatest footballers of all time, posted a picture on social media of the team lifting the trophy, and hailed the performances of Lionel Messi, France's rising star Kylian Mbappe and surprise semi-finalists Morocco.
"Today, football continues to tell its story, as always, in an enthralling way," he said. "What a gift it was to watch this spectacle of the future of our sport."
During the World Cup in Qatar, the Brazil team unfurled a massive banner on the pitch with an image of the great during his 1970 World Cup win. It simply read: "Pele!"
