Prosopocoilus is my favorite genus of beetle..and I imagine it's yours as well? I got this beautiful stag beetle preserved in resin a bit back, I wasn't provided with an ID but I think its some sort of prosopocoilus astacoides. Anyways, since this IS supposed to be a question, what's your favorite beetle in the genus of prosopocoilus? Mine's prosopocoilus fabricei takakuwai
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ohhh he's beautiful! Thanks for sharing! My favorite has gotta be either prosopocoilus giraffa keisukei, or prosopocoilus savagei; I had a pet of the former a good few years back now (he's the blog icon!), and I have a tattoo of the latter on the back of my arm.

This picture is from the last time I got it touched up, so the colors were pretty vivid still

Names
Considering your reaction to the basic Hebi/Heavy pun that gave me my name, HAVE FUN
Here are the ones for just the main rangers
Gira: Prosopocoilus giraffa, the scientific name for the giraffe stag beetle
Yanma Gust: Yanma is literally a Japanese regional dialect word for Dragonfly, Gust comes from Anotogaster sieboldii, the scientific name for the Golden Ring Dragonfly. Also a DOUBLE PUN because the Japanese name for that Dragonfly is Oniyanma
Himeno Ran: Hymenopus coronatus, scientific name for Orchid Mantis, ranhana kamakiri, the Japanese word for the same mantis
Rita Kaniska: First name from the Rita Blue Butterfly, Kaniska canace, scientific name for the Blue Admiral Butterfly
Kaguragi Dybowski: nothing for his first name, but his last name... The scientific name for the Asian Black Hornet is Vespa Dybowskii

Facts of the Day: 🐛Giraffe Stag Beetles🐛
Tumblr media
Scientific Name: Prosopocoilus giraffa
Size: 119 millimeters or 4.68 inches or
Lifespan: 12 to 15 months
Reproduction: Adults live for a single breeding season, producing around 30 eggs laid in rotting wood and soil. They stay in a larvae stage for up to 14 months, becoming adults just long enough to reproduce and then die shortly afterwards.
Diet: Rotting wood
Habitat: They are found throughout Asia, from India in the South to Indonesia in the Southeast, preferring forests near sandbanks.
Status: Conservation efforts are varied across the stag beetle subspecies and their locale but what I could find is in Thailand, they are a protected species with restrictions on exportation.
Summary: The giraffe stag beetle is the largest in their family, with long powerful jaws that make up half their body’s entire length. They tend to be aggressive and fierce, with a bite due to it’s powerful jaws. Males often use these long jaws to get in fights, and throw each other away from their potential mate.

Due to two pieces of evidence, I’ve determined where far-away is most likely located within range
Let me preface this by saying it was but a whim of fate this happened and I could never be more proud of myself
Firstly, how do we know Omori takes place in America? Well it’s quite obvious that it’s a big suburb from America and literally has people named with “All American” so that point checks out.
However where in America exactly? I cannot give an exact state, however I can give a range.
First, there’s something everyone ignores, the bug catching portion of the photo album. Why is this important? Well Mari catches a giant stag beetle. The photo I will not deny looks very little like a giant stag, however it is gigantic. [The average hand length for females is around like 7 inches,] it takes up most of her hand. The giant stag beetle is the biggest beetle in America, measuring up to 2 1/2 inches. Now, this doesn’t fit hand measurements and is honestly more likely to be the Prosopocoilus giraffa based on the image. However those are not native to the U.S and I doubt the kids were flown to Asia to catch bugs. It also has a slight red hue in the image, so it would be safer to assume that it’s the Lucanus elaphus aka giant stag in America. But how does this help us with our search for locations?
Well, from [research it can be seen that this stag is found more commonly from the mid to Eastern part of America.] This narrows it down to the countries and regions shown. However it also snows in faraway town. The game never shows this, but the calendars very obviously show temperatures that allow for snow but hot enough for them to go to the beach. So it can’t be too far or too high on the map.
Finally, the beach is important as a part. People believe that faraway is near a beach, so to keep in line with this ilk believe so too. This means they can’t live in a landlocked state and have to be in the most Eastern states.
Accumulating all this evidence, I believe that it’s safe to assume faraway is somewhere within
Virginia
Maryland
Delaware
or New Jersey (I live here by the way)
Thank you for your time.
:0!!!!! I don't think I ever really see people discuss about where exactly OMORI takes place at, but this is really interesting to read about!
