aspictures Remember that alley in which we photographed Michael Mann? Well, we also took Norman Reedus to that same alley for a Men’s Journal cover, but only after photographing Norman in the back yard at the office against a white flat that we had built during the pandemic, in case we ever needed to do a shoot in the backyard.

Norman is a fantastic subject and was absolutely game to look like a badass, which he is capable of doing with very little effort. First…the backyard.

That’s an elinchorm_ltd Octobank, unbaffled right over the top of me and an profotousa deep umbrella behind me for fill. And while it was all fun and games with the strobes, the true badassery came when we turned off the strobes and let the dappled light streaming through the branches hit Mr. Reedus. OMG.

Then, it was off to the alley. Running AND gunning. No motorhome. No permit. No warning. No catering. And…what? NO MF STROBES. What is that shiny silver thing? That my friends is the old stand by, the Matthboard and Polito bracket named for Gene Polito, a cinematographer born in Brooklyn in 1918, who went on to teach at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. The Matthboard (and Polito Bracket) can be found at msegrip.com and is considered an EXPENDABLE because it’s made of cardboard. It’s lightweight and 40x40 and you need the bracket if you don’t have erincpeterson to act like a human rolling stand.

It seems fitting for the times, and one of thos rare moments that you think back on... for anyone that knows me, they will understand how important this man's music was to my life back in the 80's, as I have been a fan since 7th grade when his first album came out. This was one of those moments when I had a job to do but would have much rather talked music. Both Jon and Dorothea were great and reached out for a copy of this image, not because it was an amazing pic but because of the man they are pictured with, Rep. John Lewis. I have had the honor of listening to Rep. 👂🌿🐜Hear no evil.🙉 This is a part of the triptych "speak no evil, see no evil, hear no evil". It turned out to be a rather conceptual rendition. I used vines to represent growth and life with it's own eco system instead of blocking [ears, eyes, mouth]. My interpretation turned out more about conscious focusing on positive, nurturing, empowering, instead of blocking the damaging. Usually when I work with insects and place them in sensitive areas on the face, people decide in their reaction. Many are weirded out about this idea. I personally love the idea of repurposing and focus on that. Once the insect is deceased I can give it an extended life in art, where they can be captured for ever.
