Break For Your Heart snippet
@stuffireadandenjoy
Simon shifted in his seat uncomfortably as he stared across the table at Soap. The other was shoveling the rather unappealing mashed potatoes into his mouth, and Simon realized he was truly surrounded by absolute psychopaths.
"Why are you here?" Simon asked the question before he could stop himself. Soap paused in his eating, barely flicking his eyes up at Simon before resuming.
"Killed someone, obviously." He mumbled around the food in his mouth. Simon frowned, oddly disappointed by the lack of a response.
"Yeah, but how?" Morbid curiosity got the better of Simon and the question came out more confident than he wanted it to. Soap didn't pause this time, merely shook his head.
"Burned him alive. Shoved a poker through his chest so he couldn't get out of it." Soap murmured before taking a loud gulp from his drink. Simon frowned at him, unable to respond for a brief moment. The mental image was gruesome, but he couldn't shake the feeling there was a critical detail lacking in Soap's response.
"Who was he?" This time, Soap's eyes snapped up to him. Those piercing blue eyes stung his very soul, and something akin to rage flashed within them.
"Does it matter? Fuck head's dead." Soap snapped, and as if he were deaf, Simon didn't drop the issue.
"You lit someone on fire and it doesn't matter who he was? God, you're fucked up." Simon dropped his gaze as Soap tilted his head ever so slightly, deciding it'd be best for his sanity to stare at the unsavory pork chop on his platter than Soap's intense glare.
"He pushed me. I pushed harder." Soap growled, and Simon bravely met his gaze once again. A familiar look of fear, one Simon saw in the mirror after confronting his abusive father, passed through Soap's eyes, so fast Simon almost missed it. But he didn't, and suddenly the man's twisted story made a bit more sense.
"Good for you." Is all Simon muttered before he turned his attention back to eating. He missed the way Soap's head tilts as a wicked, knowing grin broke out on his face.

*if MC was taken by the Senobium and Main Five decided to actually work together to break them out*
Leander: If rummaging through my old folks’ archives has given me any useful information, there exists a master key to the Senobium that deactivates their magical security measures. Kuras: Indeed. Long ago, to keep it safe, the Senobium had entrusted their key to me. Ais: So where is it now? Kuras: In the bowels of the Wastes. Leander: The Wastes? While you were trying to keep it safe? Why would you take it out there? Kuras: It is the last place anyone who values their life would go. Mhin: *sigh* Sounds lovely. Kuras: Quite the opposite. Mhin: I know, I was being ironic. Kuras: I find irony is a blade that cuts they who wield it most especially. Vere: Yeah? iS tHaT whAt yOu fiNd? DoCToR? Leander: Ooookay, can we all put aside trying to kill each other until after I save MC? Ocudeus: *to Ais* Yeah...the Sparrow’s doomed.

This might be too much, but maybe you can kind of use both Mouse and Ash, by really amping up the idea there's some behind the scene meddling. Like Mouse was supposed to be the OG lawyer, but is being mysteriously held up by something (clues hinting at some characters Ashfur works with later during the next arc)
Obviously a lot of the tension is genuine, but there could be some very bad faith players deliberately trying to increase animosity since the stakes are pretty high (Especially for thistle law leaning characters who don't want Squirrel to win)
So just a few weird mishaps that get overlooked in the chaos of the trial, only being brought to light when the imposter arc happens, being kind of a stealth set up that things are about to go very, very wrong
Too little is far, far worse than too much imo. I'm a whole-pussy kind of writer. I spell suBtlety with a capital B.
I'm leaning very strongly towards Mousefur being Ashfur's first victim, done in a fit of entitled anger because he wanted to take over the trial. But I think your suggestion of mishaps should be important too, that's a very good detail
Thoughts...
The trial was paused through some accident of one of Ashfur's cohorts. Someone broke something or called for a break.
The last person to see Mousefur was a Traditionalist, leaning on the harder side.
Mouse either goes missing just before Leafpool's Trial, or midway through.
It is NOT known that Ashfur has this terrifying ability yet, though. His cohorts simply think that Mousefur is having a hard time getting back to StarClan, not knowing that Ashfur has been messing around with the boundaries between realms too.

Break For Your Heart Snippet
"🔫 for something Prison Break AU related " from Snootles's homebrew ask game @stuffireadandenjoy *this sat in my drafts way too long. I had an idea and then it went poof! But I like this one better*
[takes place post-prison break]
"What's it like?" Simon asked, breaking the awkward silence as they both struggled to fall asleep. Soap didn't move from his bed, kept his back to Simon, and for a brief moment, he tricked Simon into thinking he had managed to fall asleep.
"What's what like?" Soap finally grunted, as he had grown tired of the eyes burning into the back of his head.
"Taking someone's life." Simon whispered into the dark room, and this prompted Soap into lifting his head off the pillow long enough to glance at Simon over his shoulder.
"I felt powerful." Soap whispered back just as quietly, and the words lingered in the cold air longer than they should have.
"Granted, I don't consider the lives I took to be people. They were monsters." Something in the way Soap growled the word made a knot form in Simon's stomach. A knot of sympathy, a knowing and an understanding. It wasn't the first time Soap had hinted at taking the life of an abuser, but Simon still wasn't sure of the relationship between Soap and his apparent abuser.
"Remember me telling you about the guy that I burned alive? How I shoved a poker through his chest so he couldn't get up?" Soap asked, and the quiet, almost shameful way he spoke sent a chill down Simon's spine.
"Yeah."
"We were partners. We'd been together for about four years by then. He had started hitting me a year prior. He got worse." Soap paused long enough to swallow past the knot forming in his throat, but Simon didn't mind. He knew the pain of having to recount your trauma to someone else.
"I was burning papers that had personal information. They were outdated by several years, and I needed to get rid of 'em. He came home drunk again. We started arguing and it got heated pretty fast. I remember feeling so fed up with his bullshit that when he got physical, I just saw red. I pushed him harder and he lost his balance. I don't even really remember grabbing the poker, if I'm being honest." Soap trailed off towards the end, but Simon couldn't form anything to say. What could he say to such a confession?
"I was happy though. Watching him burn felt good. Same thing I told the cops, same thing I told the judge. I did it, and I don't regret it."
"I'm sorry, Johnny." Simon breathed out, finding nothing else to convey everything he was feeling in the moment.
"'S fine, I guess. Fucked up by extending my sentence but, I don't regret killing those guards either." Soap stated rather matter-of-factly as he tried to cover a yawn. Simon's eyes widened as he stared at Soap, the other oblivious to his panic.
"You killed guards?"
"Aye. They were right bastards though. Kept using their power to hurt some of the prisoners in other wings. They knew better than to mess with us, but one day they fucked up. They got arrogant and fell for my trap." Soap had gotten quiet again, but this time his voice was filled with the call of sleep, yet Simon couldn't be more awake.
"Is that why the guards were all afraid of you?"
"Aye. It's how I got the name Soap, too." Soap mumbled, and the additional information only made Simon frown.
"How exactly?"
"Tied 'em up with their belts. Dislocated their jaws and shoved a bar of soap down each their throats. Held their nose so they couldn't breathe." Soap murmured, shifting so he sank further into the pillows.
"Yeh sure are askin' a lot of questions, Si." Soap said, a light chuckle accompanying his words. A blush burned at his ears, and for once, Simon was grateful for the dark.
"Guess I'm morbid like the rest of them." Simon mumbled back, and Soap only snorted.
"I think it's cause yeh like me." Simon blamed Soap's words on the effects of sleep, as the Scot was quick to begin softly snoring after the teasing words.
"G'night Johnny."

god okay i want to shit post and make jokes about tags and also talk about alkaloid in the dungeon meshi au so lets do the jokes first

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The original idea for alkaloid is kinda the idea of.... Kabrus party a secondary group of adventurers led by Hiiro and people he met to go pick up Rinne and take him home. But I had kinda zero'd into the Canary influence and liked the idea of Mayoi being this tracker Canary who terrfied people and then you talk to her and shes like. screaming and crying. Aira was originally going to be a half-foot bard and he still could be! A lot of this stuff is up in the air and unsure. Tatsumi was Kaname's school friend either way and is pretty well known around the island. Himeru goes out of his way to avoid him and I think Tatsumi maybe isnt fully aware of what went down in there. I think he probably got teleported out sans a leg or something and when seeing what he assumes is "Kaname" he feels too guilty to speak up for him until the Canaries roll around again looking for him.
It is also a cute idea for Aira to just be a guy though. Maybe he writes a column for the paper about the dungeon and the adventurers. I feel bad because I probably dont have huge ideas for people!! So really I just want it to be fun.

The thought of Krolia taking over Shiro's role on the Kerberos mission is so funny to me. All she wants to do is a.) figure out a way to get back to her own body and b.) spend time with her son in the meantime, but the human who she has swapped with has obligations that are important to his people's development and more importantly, are very important to the human himself, so it's not like she can just shuck it off on someone else. That would be very rude. This Shiro sounds like he has a very strong sense of responsibility, and she would certainly hate to make the reputation of the man who has been looking after her son take a dive.
Krolia getting a crash course on Earth's space faring technology. She crashes the sim twice while learning the controls, but she gets the hang of it pretty quickly. Krolia pouring over all the details of the Kerberos mission with only like, two months to get a grasp on the whole thing. Thankfully she is an extremely quick study, and if anyone asks, she just claims she's 'reviewing the mission parameters again to make sure she has everything down'. But also Adam having to drag this woman to bed because she is unused to having a human sleep cycle. It's 3 AM Krolia, go the fuck to sleep.
(She also has to get a crash course on how to treat Shiro's disease. She thinks she understands just a little, his drive to get out there and do something great by the standards of his people.)
Also she has to do this all while putting up with Admiral Sanda. She does not like this woman. Adam tells her that she cannot challenge her to combat for her role. Shame. It would make things much simpler. At least the two humans who are to accompany her on this mission are pleasant company, even if she's quite certain she's not entirely fooling Commander Holt. Good thing the truth is so outlandish that no one would ever possibly guess that she is an alien lifeform who has unintentionally taken over this human's body.
(Does she try and push Matt and Keith to become friends? Yes. Absolutely. She gets Adam's full backing on that one.)
Then when she gets to Kerberos, she and the two humans get abducted. By the Galra Empire. She just stares up at the ship for a good few seconds with an incredibly are you fucking kidding me expression on her face.
Sigh. These are not the ideal conditions in which to plan an escape from a Galra cruiser, but she supposes she will have to make do. Thankfully she has not skimped on her training in this body.

LCSYS ask again(undercover asker here hiiiiiaufhghghgn)thank you for responding!!!! ilovfe seeing your ideas theyre such good fuel in between trials❤️❤️
i was wondering how th prisoners would react to es’ usage of violence, like some of the younger prisoners complaining about it while the older are concerned because Hello Where did that stem from???? you cant tell me es’ “phew, i feel so much better” after hitting shidou didn’t send his mind racing a million miles per minute
ALSO curious about YONAH………… similar to how red’s violence towards es was scripted, was kotoko’s monologue about es being imperfect Also scripted, or was it on her own? yonah is probably my favourite voice drama of all time and I’m curious about how it would be interpreted in this au 🫶
Ah hello again! Thank you so much for reaching out -- every time I think I've covered everything you guys hit me with a new insane detail that makes my brain go brrrrr >:3
Because OMG I spent so much time thinking of the faked violence, I don't know why I never put as much attention on the flipside! I love the idea of Jackalope assuring them, "there will be no physical punishments. We'll talk about restraints but that's all fake. We'll make up injuries between trials but that's all fake. You don't have to worry about any real pain." And then this 15yo strolls up, interrogation one, ready to smack someone😅😅😅
Seriously though, I think it would come as a pretty big surprise to the group. They knew it was a possibility, but didn't think Es was that likely to attack, since they've made a few comments about being against violent punishments. Haruka comes back to mention the slap, and Yuno follows their instructions and says she also suffered violence, and the group is Shocked. I think it would just kill Fuuta that he wasn't allowed to hit back and avenge the others. He probably has the most complaints about the situation (and is insanely relieved that he get by in his own interrogation.) In a feeble attempt to get back at Es and make them feel bad, he encourages Muu to cry and make a big show about being afraid of them. Muu is frightened enough that it doesn't take much persuasion... I think Kotoko and unfortunately Amane wouldn't mind the threat, they both have lives in which authority showing power isn't out of place (and maybe Haruka?). Mahiru, too, thinks it's just the way a prison guard can run their prison if they want, though she's determined her charm will keep things running pleasantly.
Kazui reaches out asap* to question the legality of the experiment, since they're allowing children to get hit, even if by other children. There's a tangle of signatures and consent from everyone involved so it's okay, but the whole thing still rubs him the wrong way. He knew the experiment was a bit shady, but he(Though, this does make his first vd kind of funny -- instead of actually talking through his theories on the prison, now it feels like he's just egging Es on to see if they'll actually hit him...)
And I really like that idea that Shidou's dad instincts kick in (or maybe it's doctor instincts)! He'd understand if it was a child trying to play the role of an intimidating adult, but the way Es is doing things, the things they're saying, it all points to something deeper going on in Es' head. I can see him sitting down with the others and Jackalope to discuss. Of course Milgram gives him very little to work with, but this still kickstarts everyone's efforts to make sure Es is also taken care of post-Milgram.
*I just realized I'm still a bit fuzzy on communication during the trials. Jackalope can definitely get information to the prisoners (most commonly the 'voices' they're supposed to be hearing based on Es' notes, but also in case of emergency changes or things). I was picturing the prisoners unable to communicate outward until the trial ends, as it builds up the feeling of isolation and imprisonment. The issue is, I feel like Jackalope would want to keep that line open in case the prisoners had questions/issues with the experiment that affected their acting. So idk if the prisoners voice these concerns about Es mid-trial or they're forced to wait. I'll get back to you on that, hm
And Yonah!!
I wasn't avoiding spoilers, I actively looked for snippets here and there, but it was this ask that finally motivated me to sit down and watch it through -- and I'm SO GLAD I DID 👀 It's really well-written and wonderfully acted!! I'm floored with the whole thing omg
I really like the idea that the Milgram team instructed Kotoko to mention Es' imperfection to rattle them a bit, but left the specifics to her. Jackalope thought she'd just make some quick comment, and does a double take when he listens in on the interrogation and realizes she has a lot to say on Es and the way Milgram is run.
Jacklope told her to be harsh with Es, and she thought that was no problem at all. She felt those opinions strongly and wasn't going to go easy on the criticism just because they were a kid. She goes into the interrogation ready to stay completely put-together... and then surprises everyone and herself when Es' distress moves her to pull them into a tight hug and tell them everything's going to be alright ;---;

Sorry for another question but the one about the mist forming thing:
So I’m going to figure the ability to heal is the whole prison dimension entity thing.
Does that mean that the prison dimension favors him somehow? Being as all the other krang (besides those three) died in the prison dimension. Not to mention it accompanied Leo out into the world outside.
It does favor him! Well, as much as it could favor something, that is.
He was different, new, and his soul and will were both so bright.
He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
